how do they feel about living in sol city? have they always lived there or did they travel from another settlement?

Simon is older than Sol City. He's watched it build from the ground up. He's not scared of the outside of the city, but mostly can't be bothered to go anywhere else.

do they trust the council’s leadership? why or why not?

No. He can count on one hand the amount of people he trusts - and no one on the council makes that list. His entire life has been spent watching people fall. He knows it’s only a matter of time before the council joins those ranks.

if they chose their sector and profession, why did they make that choice? if they didn’t, why not? were they happy with their assignment or not?

Originally, Simon used to work as a professor in Sector 5. Against his own wishes, he was banned from the sector and reassigned to another position based on his skills. As a decent cook, he was assigned to food - which he doesn’t care for in the slightest.

what’s one object that they always keep on their person?

In his pockets or on his person, a book, a pack of cigarettes, and a singular silver chain necklace can always be found. He doesn’t have many other sentimental belongings.

Mediumship - Simon has the ability to see ghosts all the time. Its a power that can’t be turned off or on, they’re always there, lurking around every corner.

what can your character do? what are their strengths?

Plain and simple, Simon can see ghosts all around him, almost like people. He’s unable to stop seeing them, and they can be easily confused with normal people.

With his physical mutation, Simon also has the ability to phase through walls and lose his corporeal form

what can’t they do? what are their weaknesses?

Ghosts are always around. Simon has no way to turn off the ability. He can try to summon ghosts, but it’s really just like making a phone call - he can’t force them to listen or appear.

His physical mutation also can’t exactly be controlled. He may become incorporeal at seemingly random and, as a result, finds it difficult or near impossible to interact with the surrounding physical world.

is there anything else you’d like to specify about them?

The x-virus mutated Simon beyond just being able to see ghosts. It essentially turned him into a ghost. As a result, he occasionally becomes incorporeal and no longer seems part of this world. His body produces a constant ectoplasm, and when he is corporeal, his internal temperature is drastically lower than considered normal.

Although his main job is working at the local university studying and archiving various magical artifacts that they’ve obtained, he also gets regular calls regarding pesky spirits that plague homes and businesses. And, partnered with Gilbert Gladstone, he also semi-regularly cons people out of money, jewels, and other priceless artifacts.

Simon suffers from a rather peculiar curse, caused by a Spymaster’s stopwatch. Like nearly everyone, Simon is capable of dying…with the surprise twist of being able to regenerate after a time and return back to life. This is the result of tampering with the stopwatch - which would allow the user to temporarily stave off any harm done to their body. While meddling with the magic, however, the spell reflected back onto Simon and, upon his death, his body now “resets” to a previous state.

During his days in Port Alvarna, Simon and his partner, Han, lived together in an old lighthouse at the edge of the water. There was never much to do in terms of actually maintaining the lighthouse, although he did keep his eye on the lens and scheduling for various maintenance.

SPIRIT WARRIOR

House: Beltran Unique Gift: Mediumship From his childhood days, Simon has always been able to perceive the presence of ghosts near him, and the years he studied at House Beltran allowed for him to hone in on his ability better. He remains unable to turn off his ability to see ghosts - which so often plague his dreams - but in his waking hours, he can both summon and banish specific spirits, although spirits are capable of returning to their haunting grounds once Simon’s magic wears off. Because of his abilities, he is also more susceptible to possession, which he has difficulty preventing, and leaves Simon feeling cold and physically ill after. Magical Object: Spymaster’s StopWatch This stopwatch, once owned by a master spy, was previously used to temporarily preserve the user’s body to give themselves more time in case of emergencies. Once clicked, the user’s body would remain in a state of stasis for a single hour. Meaning that any afflictions and harm that came to their body wouldn’t take affect. However, at the end of the hour, any physical wound or harm that had come to their body would all take affect at once. Because of Simon’s tampering with the watch’s magic, it no longer works as originally intended; instead, the watch becomes more cracked and disfigured with each one of Simon’s deaths. BIOGRAPHY

Born to a mother more interested in her business than her family and a father who felt the same, Simon knew from a young age that he was a mistake. His sister, Maeve, just a few years older than him, was there for the appearance of having a happy, tightly-knit family only. Simon was the accident who was never supposed to be born.

He’d always been a solemn, quiet, and different child…and he, evidently, had been born with the gift of magic - a remnant from a since forgotten grandparent whose existence Simon had never heard of. At the prospect of freeing themselves from their unwanted child, the moment Simon was old enough to hone in on his newfound abilities, his parents happily shipped him away. His first week was full of frights and the belief that his skill would never match that of his elders. He wasn’t welcome back at home and couldn’t make his way with the magical houses…so what good was he?

Leaving was easier said than done, of course. And once Simon gave himself time to settle into his new environment he, slowly but surely, blossomed under House Beltran’s watchful guidance toward his abilities. Ghosts haunted his nightmares, but he learned they weren’t always malicious. Most just wanted for someone to listen to them for the first time in a long time. And Simon couldn’t help but be understanding.

As others his age finished their studies and began taking the proper steps to procuring a spirit warrior lisence…Simon had other interests in mind. Studying at a local university, he wanted to expand his studies beyond what he’d learned at the psychic house; there was so much more to magic than what he’d been taught about himself, of course, and certainly other forms of magic that had long since been forgotten from the world…Simon planned on studying them all.

But what he didn’t have was the money required to pursue the majority of his studies. Being young and dumb…he took it upon himself to enter a contract with a dreamshade with a reputation for thievery, much against the advice of his peers. His contract has lead him to being stuck in situations he never would’ve imagined himself in, but they at least always brought a decent chunk of change, and the occasional magical item for Simon to study in his free time.

And somewhere along the way, the impossible happened: Simon found himself with a family. Despite his irritating behavior, some small affections had grown towards Gilbert Gladstone after having worked with him for years. Then there was his roommate-turned-partner, Song Han Jae, and the twins they’d taken in together, Jasper and Johanna. His little life in Port Alvarna was far from perfect, but it was a home he’d made for himself, and one he’d never see himself leaving.

And then The Boundry came, and Simon witnessed his own sister turn to sea foam before his very eyes. It would’ve been impossible for him to take all of his belongings with him as Simon and the remainder of his small family fled to Selphia, but he grabbed all he could and hasn’t looked back since.

He doesn’t really believe in anything occult, but he does have an interest in ghosts and psychics and “energy readings”. He knows there isn’t much scientific base for them, and doesn’t place much faith in anything a supposed psychic has to tell them, but he does take pleasure in hearing what they have to say on occasion. He enjoys watching ghost hunting shows.

There are several handguns that Simon keeps concealed in his house, that only he knows the location of. He knows he screwed up a lot in the cases that he fudged the evidence of, and that he isn’t the nicest person around. He’s sure to have a few enemies - he’d rather keep himself safe.

His dream job would be working as a lighthouse keeper on a misty island in the middle of the ocean with an extensive library to keep himself company.

BIOGRAPHY

Simon’s story begins in the years before he is ever born. His parents, the children of immigrants, had getting married and starting a family instilled in their mind from birth. Coworkers turned sweethearts, they confided in one another months before their wedding that they had no real desire to continue the family name. There were other siblings, other family members, who could take on just that. In the months to follow their wedding, however, both sides of their new family became too persistent. Jokes were made at each family meal, questions asked at every holiday, suggestive presents gifted at random, and fertility advice offered, all until they both decided to at least try.

Within the year, Simon was born on what felt like the coldest night of the year. As a baby, he was difficult. Skittish, even. Everything seemed to frighten and scare him. The dark. The nightlight. The television. The vacuum. His parents quickly realized how in over their heads they were. They missed their nights out, their lengthy vacations, their open weekends. Now all of their plans were bombarded with a newborn infant. Resentment built up over the child they had both decided to bring into the world. Diapers went unchanged. Every other feeding skipped. As a toddler, and eventually young child, Simon was scrawny, underfed, and underloved. He did, however, learn the most important lesson of his life in those early years: he has to take care of himself.

As Simon grew older, his parents weren’t abusive per say. They never said a bad word to him. They never touched him. But that, so it seemed, became the issue. At eight, nine, ten, he seemed to haunt his own home. Birthdays were passed without a gift or cake. Report cards left unsigned. Often times, Simon would have his home to himself for a week on end before he turned eleven years old because both parents would decide to have a child-free vacation.

Eighteen couldn’t have come soon enough. The moment high school ended, Simon was more than eager to leave his home behind and start life in school: the one solace that he seemed to have. In college, he learned more than just from books. He realized how little he’d been taught from his own family. While he would continue to succeed academically, he struggled socially year after year, and he seemed to never be able to catch up with the remainder of his peers.

After a time, Simon decided he wouldn’t mind his life. He stuck to his ways, made little to no lasting friendships, and brought all his additional attention into his work. Where he fell short socially, he exceeded all expectations throughout medical school, where he was eventually recruited to join the FBI. Working for the government wasn’t in his plans. If anything, Simon didn’t consider the federal government his good friend. But the money was decent and, as a pathologist, he had no worry about entering the field.

That is...until a particular case struck his interest. Gilbert Gladstone: International Art Thief. He had crept his way up the FBI’s most wanted list, a list that Simon often ignored, but even he couldn’t turn a deaf ear to an interesting art heist. Despite his background in pathology and not art history, when he asked to take a look at the case, he was welcomed to give his best shot at it. But his keen attention to detail, his passion for history, and his love of a good puzzle lead him to track down, and eventually capture, Gilbert Gladstone himself. This, ironically, turned out as both the best and worst moves of Simon’s career. He was certainly celebrated and praised. They wanted to promote him. They wanted his eye as a field agent - what could someone with his background see in cases that others couldn’t? He had tickets to fly across the country to extend his input and...and Simon couldn’t have been more miserable. The constant jetlag, the retelling of the same story, shoved into conferences with people he didn’t know, nor cared to get to know...he wanted nothing more than to return back to his own sleepy lab with his old familiar microscopes and his favorite chair.

He hatched the idea that he would fudge the evidence on a few cases. Nothing significant, but enough to show that he wasn’t the man for the job. Except, Simon learned that his superiors didn’t notice his intentional mistakes. Either he’d made them too subtle, or they simply trusted him too much. That’s when his intentional mistakes became bigger. Bolder. It became almost a game to see how long he could get away with fabricating information. Of course, someone did check his work eventually. And when his little secret came out, Simon was sent a sternly written email that boiled down to We’ll call you when we need you. He lost most access to his comfortable lab, his cushy chair, and was essentially given consultant status rather than a typical agent. And, to make matters worse, he was assigned to work with Gilbert Gladstone himself - the same man who he helped put away. Simon didn’t want the fame and notoriety that came with tracking down a renowned art thief...and he really doesn’t want to be stuck in a busy hospital with strange equipment and a man who is more comfortable with multi-million dollar theft than a few specks of blood on his shoes.

Maybe there’s something in Salem that he can set his mind to instead - the amount of missing people appearing on the shores for one. He’s learned his lesson in solving high-stakes mysteries...but there’s still something about the town of Salem that he can’t quite let go.

Simon’s father and stepmother were married for hundreds of years before his birth. And after such a long marriage…well…his father grew curious with the lives of mortals…and such, Simon was born. Well, his mother did not realize the effort it took to raise a child; and while as Simon grew older, he became more self-sufficient, she didn’t particularly enjoy being tied down to this tiny person. She attempted to drop him off with his father…only for his stepmother to, of course, grow angry that he’d ever been born at all.

Rather than stuck with a mother who believed he was too much work, or with a father who hadn’t wanted a child, Simon wound up stuck with his older sister, Min.

Their first few years together were far from easy, with neither entirely sure what to make of the other. And yet, they managed to make it work. Despite their large age gap as siblings, they had more similarities than differences.

Still, he grew up knowing that neither parent really wanted him. No one had, except for his sister.

And while he appreciated all she’d done for him, at some point, he still had to go his own way. At eighteen he applied to college and set out on his own. Perhaps it was his youthful ambition that believed he could do anything. Which…unfortunately lead Simon to a string of poor decisions, from tinkering with an old artifact ( which lead him to be cursed ), to entering a contract with a dreamshade ( who he occasionally regrets meeting ), to a messy relationship with a girl he never should have gotten involved with.

In an attempt to create his own space away from the mess he’d made, Simon found himself falling into the arms of his school rival, Han Jae Song. Once competitors for top in class, Simon found that Han wanted him, along with all the mess-ups he’d made along the way.

Some twenty years later, they’ve built a life together - and even brought in two children who had no family for the pair to take care of. He never thought he’d have a place for himself…and yet, he’d made one all on his own.

But life is not all sunflowers and daisies, as Simon is so well acquainted with. Han, bitten and turned into something no longer human. His young niece turned into seafoam before his very eyes. And his adoptive son, Jasper, plagued with his own magical condition…Simon knows it’s not possible to save everyone…but if he can at least right some of his own wrongs…maybe he’ll be able to keep some of his loved ones close.
