Simon Terrill
Simon Terrill, originally from Australia, started his career in theatre after studying sculpture at an undergraduate level. He is widely interested in the ideas of chance & spontaneity which he explored through large crowds & groups of people, as well as the brutality of this.
He captures the relationship between crowds & architecture by setting up spontaneous scenes using people but they decide what they actually do when the photograph is being taken, entailing the life on the street.
Using lights he strongly lights up different sections of his documentary scenery photographs where he creates a portrait of the place.
From taking inspiration from Hokusai’s ‘36 views of Mount Fiji’, Simon Terrill created his own series of photographs entitled ‘36 views of orbit’ where he captured and documented the orbit tower located in Stratford from 36 different views, showing the extent that buildings have in a photograph.
