tentatively excited for jannat se aagay because i think its premise looks Just different enough for it to be semi-interesting but im pretty much all in for Mein as of rn lol.. i think ayeza is a genuinely good actress with star power who gets relegated to the same roles all the time so this darkish glamorous tone has me so intrigued.... Not really a wahaj fan but i think their chemistry was chemistrying enough that if they actually do go the morally grey route for ayeza i'll watch.

also i saw you ask for green tv recs and i don't wanna be one of those people that says ALL OF THEM bc how counter-productive so here's some base-level reviews for the ones i've watched: tumhare husn ke naam is a classic romance that i think earns the 90s drama comparisons. very sweet so far but i think its most unique aspect is that this is the first time since mera naam yousuf hai probably that ive been endeared to an imran abbas character lol. jeevan nagar is really funny and rabia butt is a gem i'm very excited for her career but tonally it's something i have a hard time getting into.. reminds me of old pakistani skit shows but elevated to a certain level. kabli pulao i actually haven't seen which is blasphemous but the premise didn't intrigue me at all... might give it a chance for nadia afghan. 101 talaqain has an interesting story but i couldnt continue it because the direction was choppy and contrived. idiot suffers from a lack of defined secondary characters but the main two are very very endearing and well-acted so its like... if youre willing to sacrifice your time watching ahmed ali akbar and mansha pasha play the main couple from 3 idiots. finally, i think 22 qadam might be my favorite? its directed well and the storyline is actually intriguing so far even though from the teasers i was worried about how they were gonna do the cricket stuff (they managed it well). couldn't tell you about the romance bc there's been one interaction at the point im at but hareem CARRRRRIES and wahaj actually plays charismatic foil pretty well. sorry these are all just rambles but i hope u have a great day <3

I don't think Ayeza gets relegated to the same roles though? she tries to switch it up whenever she can. of course her "damsel in distress" roles outnumber her other characters but she has given a success in Meenu (a bubbly character) and in Mere Pass Tum Ho and Yaariyan (negative characters). Laapata toh had her playing a bubbly, negative-ish character. she definitely has the range and she looks terrific onscreen. even more so since she has started taking charge of the styling of her characters. her wardrobe in Mein looks ek dum GORGEOUS I just know Imma be salivating on her looks alot. Wahaj-Ayeza chemistry..idk..haven't been WOWed by it yet but i am hoping the drama itself will change that perspective.

thank you for the rundown about Green Ent's shows! i still haven't gotten the time or frankly even the inclination of checking out any of these. I read multiple complains about the channel's shows' having techincal issues that overall impacted the quality of the shows and honestly that has me hesitating in checking them out. alsoooo...maybe it's just me but there's something a little "off" about all of the dramas either the casting or the kind of stories that are telling that just doesn't pique my interest? i am not writing the channel or the content off entirely..i hope it will offer me something in the future that will have me taking this channel seriously but so far, I am far more concerned about shows that happen on the Big 3 channels of PakTV and am treating Green as just a beta version of a channel that needs time and continuous tinkering to work out its chinks before I consider it ready as a channel to be invested in.

What book are you currently reading? Techincally I’m reading The Two Towers but I haven’t picked it up since like September because I’ve been reading textbooks every day all day long.

What’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year? None! I haven’t been to a movie theater in like three years and I like it that way. I get strong urges to talk during movies, hence why I never watch serious movies with people who watch them seriously.

If i go somewhere that’s not like on a walk or to my closest friends’ house I wear jeans (low or mid rise) (I could rant about American TikTokers’ opinions on jeans for hours btw. Like seriously! Are you in a relationship? If not, who is your crush if you have one? Absolutely not lol. I haven’t had a crush on anyone since I was maybe 16 years old and I think I’m aromantic (fully or partially).

What’s something you’re good at vs. something you’re bad at? Good at math (despite my inability to convert to imperial measurements), bad at... it’s difficult to type out... recognising what’s the best decision to make in a situation and taking initiative to do it quickly. Maybe it’s not something I’m the worst at ever, but it’s something I frequently notice I wish I was better at. I’m also terrible at almost every sport lol.

Dogs or cats? I like both :) maybe cats because I’ve never had a pet before and cats may be easier to take care of.

If you draw/write, or create in any way, what’s your favorite picture/favorite line/favorite etc. from something you created this year? (2022) I wrote a song text about throwing my old school’s sports association into the swamp outside the school, which I think turned out really nice.

What’s something you would like to create content for? I’d love to write a novel! But always procrastinate because I’m afraid of getting stuck and it turning out bad. I also dream of being a musician and an artist.

What’s something you’re currently obsessed with? Not obsessing over anything at the moment. Trees, maybe. Also Amaranthe and Korpiklaani. Unfortunately, Korpiklaani seems to be avoiding Scandinavia like the plague.

Techincally, yes. But there’s always a high chance of my going back to older stories. I’m very inconsistent when it comes to that lol I might even just rewrite it at some point too since I started writing that before I even finished Trollhunters let alone the release of Wizards and everything. I have a lot more ideas now than I did back then when it comes to characters and development sooooo honestly I could lol Just matters on my ADHD brain deciding if it helps wants to lol

Now you may be asking “Isabel, what’s the point of writing a small essay on a minor character from a kids movie?” and I’ll tell you!  

NoneofmyfriendswillputupwithmybullshitThere is no point!  I just like writing things about things I like!  And I wanna write about

Her.

Because she was a cool fucking character!  With an awesome design!  And I don’t give her enough attention!

And that’s her introduction!  A large, chunky girl wearing a black T-shirt and a pretty pink cardigan looking absolutely murderous.  She’s tough and strong and intimidating.  How often do we get that from animated little girls?  Astrid is all of those things but she’s also tiny, and wearing form fitting ‘tough action girl’ clothes.  Cupcake gets big ole boots and a freaking tutu!  Her hair is messy and nothing she wears matches and she clearly doesn’t put up with anyone’s shit!

I mean,

look how scared these guys are of her!  Pippa and Monty are more timid but Claude, Caleb and Jamie seem like regular old roughhousing tough kids until this moment.  And they’re all scared of a girl in a tutu!  Like, bullying is obviously not acceptable but so much media portrays the bullies as football players or edgy kids who smoke, or a manipulative and condescending queen bee type.  Cupcake is a big, quiet girl in a tutu.

and when she finally turns to the dark side and joins their play?  She’s not suddenly delicate or girly girl.  She chases them with a lump of snow larger than her own head.  And seems so utterly impressed by Jamie’s sled ride through town!

but still has the empathy to be worried when he crashes and gets hit by a runaway sofa

and when the others admit to constant nightmares she shows a lot of empathy and understanding towards the group (Caleb in particular) 

she seems to be able to read people too!  Claude, Caleb and Jamie push each other around a lot.  Pippa and Monty don’t.  So once Cupcake is added to the group she starts pushing them around too, starting with Caleb.

Poor kid.

Time to talk about Cupcake and her belief in the Guardians!

She’s super into unicorns (obviously)

but it’s never confirmed if they’re real like the Leprecaun and the Groundhog (I suppose the Groundhog was necessary since it’s partially staged in Pennsylvania) 

however she is shown to be very well connected to the spirit world, at least unconsciously.  Aside from Jamie and Sophie, Cupcake has the most interactions with the Guardians and the Spirits around them.

She’s the first to be influenced by Jack’s magic on screen (and the only one of the group to experience this)

She’s sent dreamsand and nightmares in one night, plus she’s visited personally by Pitch on the eve of his first attack on the Guardians

She’s also the first of Jamie’s friends to be visited by Jack, she’s the first to get outside and sled with them (indirectly convincing the twins to join the sledding) and seems to have no trouble reigniting her belief in the Guardians and believing in Jack off the bat.

She’s techincally Jack’s second believer, and she’s also the second one to stand up to Pitch and defend the Guardians

She instigates the fight against the nightmares

and overall has the most interactions with spirits.  She’s one of those characters that bumps into the spirit world without wanting or trying to.

And then there’s the question of her home life and her family.  Her home appears a couple of times during the film, though it’s not as intimately known as the Bennett’s home.  It’s easiest to find during Pitch’s introduction here

her room is the one with the blue light.

I’m going to go on a tangent here and talk about her house and it’s location.  Because as you can see here it’s three floors above a shop and next to what I assume is the town hall. 

The shop is visible in multiple scenes, such as the sled ride at the beginning

which means that her house is adjacent to the town hall and the square with the statue

yet another landmark is the petrol station

where the final battle occurs (god Cupcake’s room has the best view for this movie)

... Actually...  now that I’m looking, I’m gonna have to make a ‘spot-Cupcake’s-house’ post bc this is getting ridiculous lol

Now my question is this: how much of the building does Cupcake’s family own?  

There’s a couple of maps (neither are true to the film istelf but...) by Peter Maynez one of which lists Cupcake’s home as a ‘loft’ which implies that her family owns just the top floor or so.  Which is fine... except...

what apartment has a dog door????

So I propose that Cupcake’s family is actually loaded and owns the whole building including the shop.  That way there could be a portion of the ground floor that’s part of their apartment.

Which brings me onto the shop itself.  It’s name is clearest in this shot

I’m not well versed in fishing terminology but it does appear to be a fishing shop.  Now I have been informed by my dad who has been to the US unlike me, that this would be full of fishing gear and also maybe hunting gear (maybe guns? idk I’m British I don’t know the rules about guns - tho Burgess is confirmed to be in Pennsylvania if it’s state by state?), camping gear or general outdoors equipment so probably a decent amount of income.

Kice seems to be a surname.  I might have gotten the wrong end of the stick here but that’s what I’m assuming for now.   Kice (according to Ancestry) seems to be a Germanic/Slavic last name, which may be Cupcake’s last name?  

Cupcake’s family is also a mystery but we do know that this guy(?) exists

and that he likes to read the newspaper in the morning

so he may be her father or father figure?  They might not even be a guy but they do have a stereotypical masculine figure so I’m going with that?

I spy with my little eye three pairs of shoes.  These are three different types of shoes so they may all belong to one person, or they have three other people in the house and these are their current shoes?  I think Cupcake keeps her shoes in her room/next to her bed so 

I would also say that considering the (possible) size of their house it would be easy for her to have siblings living with her (younger so they don’t keep shoes by the door, or older so they could be out all night).

(The heavy decoration in Cupcake’s room also implies that the family has money)

2: What scene did you first put down?

i think it was actually the first scene!! specifically, that first line came to me once i was toying around with the idea and i went “OH SHIT” and wrote the first chunk

(addition: i checked the google doc and yeah, it was that first chunk, tho the original line was just “Janice didn’t get paid enough for this shit.”)

11: What do you like best about this fic?

i mean. the All of It

but that’s v vague so i’m gonna narrow it down and say that playing with the relationships between everyone and figuring out how reaper unit 147 fits into the established pine guard order has been rly, rly fun, and hearing about how much everyone likes my ocs has been a huge bonus to that process ^u^

so. the most techincal answer is “an amnesty episode, usually the one that’s just come out on a given thursday”

but that’s v vague and more of a way for me to get inspired to write instead of what i actually listen to? so the more accurate answer is “whatever i’m listening to at the time”

since this fic has been in production since last aug 2018, i’ve got through a handful of music taste cycles and i can’t for the life of me remember what the first one was. but! i can tell you that most recently i’ve been listening to a lot of hozier, and occasionally spirit phone, fob, or p!atd (the latter two bcus Nostalgia and Yelling lol)

so this was inspired after watching one too many offline tv vids

and based of one very specific incident so we'll get into that later !!

but chenle (his parents) bought the house,, so he should be the leader of the whole group,, and techincally he is,, but most people see mark (the tired editor who sometimes shows up in hyuck's vids) as the leader

we should first get into the types of vids they all make

honsetly? their vids don't have a lot in common,, the only thing making them a cohecive chanel is their occasional group videos 

mark as i said is the Tired™ and Stressd Out™ editor who became sorta popular after appearing un one of hyuck's vids bc "wowza the editor's kinda cute" he makes sure that all the swearing is cut out bc this is a Family-Friendly Channel™ that only makes Wholesome content #justiceformark

renjun does study vids and sometimes does drawing ones !! he has this whole livestream called "drawing w/ renjun" and it's cute but also the basis for the Incident i was talking about he always has little doodle edits in his vids and not everyone notices them,, but it's okay renjun still loves adding them in !! 

jeno's a vlogger but not an obnoxious one?? his intros aren't just of him yelling,, they're usaully just him smiling and laughing at some comment another member of the house made !! his vlogs aren't always the most intresting Content™ on the chanel but he's just so sweet and it showcases how all the dreamies are off camera so people can't help but love his vids !!

i know he's this in e v e r y youtube!au but i can't imagine hyuck as anything but a beauty blogger;; he's just born to be fab,, but he doesn't only do 'my make-up routine', 'my boyfriend does my make-up' (cOughthevidmarkwasin) but he also does rants about like scandels?? he has his opinions and he doesn't care if he gets hate for them!! like some boy was shamed for wearing a skirt?? hyuck's gonna go off about why people should be able to where whatever the fudge they want to wear

jaemin does dance covers and healthy living vids !! he used to only do dance covers,, but since his back started to hurt again,, he had to start doing less starining things,, he was sad about it at first,, but then he started to really like doing the healthy living vids !! when i mean healthy living i mean like, 'how to develop good sleeping habits', 'buiding a routine that's right for you', 'eating healthy' (but jeno has a clip of him eating an entire bag of chips)

chenle is a d.i.y youtuber !! expect he doesn't only show the best results,, he shows all his f*ck-ups so people can understand how to fix mistakes and that diys don't come out perfect on first-try !! he also trys internet trends to see if they're Legit or not (sorta like a g-rated threadbanger) he's the only actually wholesome member of the team who swears the least so mark loves him bc less work to do

jisung,, a gaming 'tuber!! he plays all sorts of the games from casual gamming like idk, pokémon, to competive ones like L.O.L (i refuse to write f******e in any of my post;; i rEFUSE) and tbh,, he likes casual gamming vids better bUT shHH no one can know that;; he's actually pretty good at competive games too,, but he tends to get Stressed when playing in team with strangers bc sometimes they'll call him 12 and he'll get sad -

anyway!! they'll do crossover vids sometimes ('the dream Bois play never have I ever') mark hates these bids the most bc when they're together,, swearing comes naturally

even videos that aren't collabs,, you may be able to see/hear the other members making their vids 

jun will be telling us how to study better an you'll hear hyuck ranting about a girl being expelled bc her knees were showing

chenle will be painting a fan pink and you'll see a faint ontline of jisung playing some game

but by far, the best unplanned collab was and the thing that inspired me to write this entire au, was when renhyuck kidnapped each others boyfriends (inspired by something that happened to offline tv)

so,, as you know renjun does this drawing thing where he'll draw something and fans can send their drawings back and renjun passes everyone bc he thinks everyone's drawing is good in some right 

expect hyuck

hyuck'll send something in,, and its actually pretty good

renjun still fails him bc 'lol i like being mean to my friends'

hyuck sends jisung as a messenger with a note saying "pass me or else" 

renjun sends chenle with a note that says 'lol, no'

hyuck then threatens to spill grape juice on jun's moomin plushie if he doesn't give him a 60%

jun kidnaps mark and says "55% percent and mark for the moomin back"

hyuck gAsPs in betrayal and kidnaps both of jaeno in retaliation and once again sends jisung with a note "70% or else the idiots get it"

jun realizes idiots = his boyfriends so he storms into hyuck's room for his idiots boyfriends back

they negotiate and hyuck ends up with mark back and a 65%

Backstory of how I got into kpop: i’ve heard of kpop since i was in gr. 2/3 bUt i never really got around to listening to it (plus, after gangnam style came out it got really annoying bc all of my classmates would yell the incorrect lyrics smh) bUT in 2014 i came across a svt video,, and there we go i was sucked into this black hole that is kpop // yeah, so basically, i started making fun of my friend for listening to the music, and one day she just shoved an earbud in my ear (aggressively,, if i may add) and made me listen to the rest of i need u, and i was in awe. from that day on,,, i’ve loved the music. (i think it’s important to not only love the idols, but to love the music they make. they work hard to tell their stories through music, and that deserves to be appreciated)
