i love your slexie break up analysis!!!!!! do you have any ideas/analysis on slexie in 8x24 or in season 8 in general? i just watched lexie’s final episode and slexie’s last scene was just so tragic....... :( anyway just thought i’d ask!

Hi anon! Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, I’m just seeing this now and may in fact be the worst tumblr owner in the world!

But the answer is yes, absolutely!

• All of the setting up Lexie to be a parent only to have her end up dying at the end of the season really hurts my heart (I completely understand why she had to leave the show! Just thinking about what could have been makes me super sad). (i.e., Zola, her mini arc in the NICU with Alex, bonus points for the musical episode and the end of S7 as a whole - something else I have plenty of opinions on).

• I have to feel a little bad for Julia. She really had no idea what she was getting herself into, and she obviously really cared about Mark seeing as the super red flag ex-girlfriend wasn’t a dealbreaker for her.

• The whole season!! Mark and Lexie had so many opportunities!!! To confess their love for each other!!!! And they missed them all!!!!!

• 8x24 really supports the Just Talk To Each Other Dammit hypothesis which makes it that much more heartbreaking in my opinion. Mark talking about marrying and having kids with Lexie would be weird if he still thought she didn’t want to. It’s even more devastating to realize he understood all too late.

• “I’m in love with Lexie, who doesn’t want anything I want.” Actually strained my voice the other day screaming at my TV because ‘did she tell you that, Mark!?!?’

• Someone brought up that Mark may have potentially blamed himself for Lexie’s death because she was sitting as far away from him as possible? I’m tempted to say it would have at least crossed his mind. Never mind him trying so hard to save her :(

• Whether or not you think Lexie believed Mark’s meant to be speech is really a case-by-case basis thing. I think she would have assumed he was trying to make her feel better if they’d lived (which would prompt him to say it all again), but I also think in the moment she took it at face value. Because it would be awful if she didn’t, and he was definitely convincing. Sobs.
