SONIC AND CO SKIING. BECAUSE I CANT
Sonic: IF hes skiing (he would be snowboarding), its straightdown style. Barely digs his skis in at all. Its scary to watch because he does this on black diamond runs too but he just uses the slope and uneven terrain to launch himself and do a bunch of crazy tricks. Breaks his equiment often and banned by the rental shop
Tails: also skis very fast, but hes a lot more technical about it. Carves with his skis very nicely and follows Sonic down marked runs at a reasonable pace. Uses his tails in the terrain parks to fuck it up. He prefers powder skiing though
Amy: avid skier with no difficulty preference. Dabbles in it all and knows the runs like the back of her hand. Tree skier also. She find it "relaxing". She also snowboards really well but prefers the terrain park when she does. You can find her giving impromptu lessons to beginners and directing traffic
Knuckles: Snowboards decently but cant ski. Says that skis are an uncoordinated nightmare and pizzas (method of slowling down where you point the toes inward and the heels out) all the way down the mountain. After yelling at Sonic for taking him down the longest run, he switches out for a snowboard.
Silver: beginner and a cheater. Everyone keeps telling him he'll always be bad at skiing if he keeps using his psychokinesis to turn his skis but hes not listening. He can only go straight down or do wideeeee slowwww turns if hes not using his powers. He does like to send himself flying on occasion. And uses his powers to lower himself back to the ground.
Blaze: skilled but not crazy. Sticks to blue runs primarily. She tries skiing with Silver but he does it so weird she usually ends up skiing with Amy instead. Likes going on bumpy terrain (moguls) but avoids steep drops. Always has a thermos of premium tea from home with her
Babylon rogues: dont ski on a principal. Jet says its for babies because hes immature. Wave snowboards exclusively because it gives her ideas for her extreme gear and she want to show off. Storm WANTS to ski but is a little afraid to bring it up. They are also the assholes who block the entire run at the top of the hill and cut you off in the middle of a turn.

January 5, 2024.
I realised some time ago that on a snowboard, I’m not afraid. Back in September 2023, in the poem “Like a Torrent? …Before Dawn” I wrote, “And that snowscape, I want to fight that too. / To rush down the silvery hill with wind whipping past me—” and “But I know I’ll come out on top on this board, / ‘cause I dominate the fucking scene here.”
But when I wrote this—
“It’s like… speeding down a hill on a snowboard and turning sharply because you don’t know how to stop or slow down, versus speeding down that same hill because that’s the speed you prefer, knowing you could stop if you wanted to.”
Updated Warnings: unreliable narrator, main character is implied to be triggered half-way through, self-destructive tendencies (?), untreated foot injury
Original Notes: some knife/blade-related metaphors, main character talks to himself, implied mental health issues…?
Tumblr media
The peak of the white mountain blurred with fog, crisp winds blowing through the boundaryless horizon.
Well, I could still hold that image in mind on a hill not even halfway up the mountain.
Colourful ski coats dotted the bottom half of the smooth slope; too many beginners, too crowded.
“What does it take to go down this hill?” I muttered to myself as I waited for a clear path to reveal itself.
“Now’s not the time for theatrics, y’know,” came a lighter voice of my own accord. “Everything’s fine?”
The helmet, the board, the boots, the slight pain of my toenails from the front of the boots—
“All fine.” I looked up into the pale distance. “But this lens—it has to be clear.”
“What happened to that desire to dominate me, huh?” that lighter voice of role-play whispered. “What happened to ‘No more holding back! This is the stage that we have yearned for’?”
“I’m not sure about this.”
A cold wind blew against my face as if to spur me on, breaking the calmness. I tensed up with a scowl, eyes shot wide-open.
“Solitude D’Hiver! Just you wait—!”
“Good, good… A little cold is all it takes, huh?”
I exhaled sharply, and positioned my board horizontally on the snow. People around me have already returned here for the second run. I pulled on the binding’s snow-dusted buckles, locked in my other boot, and stood upright.
Like a blade, the cold wind brushed past my cheeks again.
“You—!”
“Clear up your eyes. Focus. The disappearing trick’s only fun if you know how to reappear, y’know,” I whispered to myself and closed my eyes for a moment. The tension in my brows and shoulders melted away.
The goggles’ spherical daytime lens kept the snow’s albedo low enough to see comfortably without sacrificing the field of vision.
Good. Be it out of fear or excitement or a certain need for revenge rushing through me, I wanted to dominate this snowy winterscape. So like a palette knife towards a canvas, this board’s edge shall follow me down the hill.
“You ready?”
And a palette knife does not ask for a perfect canvas or a beautiful smear.
“Don’t lose yourself in your revenge, and…”
I shifted my weight to the head of the board.
“Have fun.”

Bariloche Ski Resort: Your Ultimate Snowboarding Trip to South America
When most people picture South America, they think of steamy jungles, vibrant cities, and sun-soaked beaches. But high in the Andes, a different world awaits—one where snow blankets rugged peaks, and ski towns like Bariloche come alive with the buzz of winter adventurers. Yes, it does snow in South America, and not just a dusting. In regions like Patagonia, the snowfall is heavy, dependable, and perfect for skiing and snowboarding.
Tucked into Argentina's Lake District, Bariloche ski resort, officially known as Cerro Catedral, is the largest and most developed ski area in the country. It's no surprise that Bariloche has earned a reputation as one of the continent’s top winter destinations—not only for its epic terrain, but also for its chocolate shops, alpine architecture, and Patagonian culture.
New insight: Cerro Catedral is part of Nahuel Huapi National Park, a 7,050 km² protected area renowned for its glacial lakes, forests, and wildlife—adding to the scenic appeal both on and off the slopes.
Why Bariloche is a Must for Skiers and Snowboarders
Bariloche is particularly appealing because it offers something for every type of rider. Whether you’re a beginner easing onto gentle green runs, or a snowboarder craving powder-filled tree lines and freestyle features, the mountain delivers. The resort spans over 120 km of groomed trails and 1,200 ha of skiable terrain, serviced by nearly 39 modern lifts, including gondolas and detachable quads—one of the densest lift systems in South America .
The skiable area includes over 50 marked runs (blue, red, and black), plus an additional off-piste playground that caters to advanced riders. A sustainable snowmaking system covers around 10 ha to guarantee coverage during lean snowfall years .
The best time to visit is between late June and early October, though July and August are prime months when snowfall peaks and the entire resort is open. Because it’s winter in the Southern Hemisphere, a trip to Bariloche lets you escape the summer heat and ride powder when most of the world is in sandals. It’s one of the cleverest ways to enjoy a snow fix in July.
Is It Expensive to Ski in Argentina? Surprisingly, No.
Skiing in Argentina is significantly more affordable than in North America or Europe. A day pass at Cerro Catedral costs roughly $40–$60 USD, depending on season and package. Equipment rental and group lessons are budget-friendly, with private lessons around $60 USD for two hours, and full-package ski trip deals—covering lodging, passes, and gear—can be negotiated around $1,000 USD for a week.
Thanks to Argentina’s highly favorable local exchange rate, lift tickets, food, and wines are surprisingly affordable. Even on-mountain meals and Malbecs typically cost far less than in top-tier North American resorts.
Snowboarding in Bariloche: Freestyle, Powder, and Family Fun
Snowboarding culture is thriving in Bariloche, thanks to varied terrain, terrain parks, and a laid-back vibe. It’s a great place to learn the sport, especially with patient instructors and wide beginner zones. For families, snowboarding is just as safe and enjoyable as skiing when done with proper gear and guidance—many kids start here with confidence.
Bariloche’s mid-mountain zones offer long cruisers for intermediates, while advanced riders can explore natural features, bowls, and powder stashes. Freestylers will love the terrain parks that feature jumps, boxes, and rails—perfect for progression or practicing new tricks. Even seasoned snowboarders from the U.S. and Europe come here to ride during their off-season.
New note: The resort hosts night skiing events, torch parades, and international competitions—adding flair and variety beyond daytime snowboarding .
So, Why Is Bariloche So Famous?
The town itself is worth the trip. Nestled on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi, Bariloche looks and feels like a small Alpine village. But beyond the postcard views, it’s the unique blend of culture, scenery, and winter sports that makes it stand out. Travelers often say that Bariloche offers one of the most complete snow experiences in South America—mixing chocolate tastings, mountain pubs, local Patagonian cuisine, and live music with world-class riding.
And it’s not just Bariloche—while places like Chile’s Valle Nevado and Portillo are also excellent, many travelers find Argentina’s resorts more budget-friendly, with a cozier, more social atmosphere. When comparing Argentina vs. Chile for skiing, your choice may come down to whether you prefer volcano views or lakeside alpine charm.
Getting There and Making the Most of Your Trip
Getting to Bariloche is straightforward. Fly into Buenos Aires, then take a domestic flight to BRC (Bariloche Airport). From there, the lift base is roughly 19 km away, accessible by paved road, and serviced by frequent public buses (~USD 2.40 one-way) or shuttle services (~USD 16–20 roundtrip).
Once at the base, you’ll find free parking for ~960 vehicles, and shuttles run every 30 minutes from town. Taxi fares from town range between AR$7,000–9,000 (US$14–18) one way, with lines forming late afternoon.
Accommodations range from slope-side condos to boutique hotels and hostels in town. Staying in town offers vibrant nightlife and more dining options; staying at the base gives you early access to first lifts.
If you're planning a short trip—three to five days—you’ll still have ample time to explore the mountain, take lessons, and soak up the winter culture. Many agree that a 3-day trip hits the sweet spot between slopes and relaxation.
Yes, It Snows—A Lot. But Only in the Right Places
Despite misconceptions, snow is a regular part of life in Argentina's southern regions. While tropical countries like Brazil rarely see snow—only in Brazil’s far south near Uruguay—the Andes in Argentina and Chile receive consistent, deep snowfall. Cerro Catedral sees, on average, 6 m (236") of snow at the summit, tapering to 3 m at mid-mountain and about 1.5 m at the base .
And with its comprehensive snowmaking system, the resort maintains coverage even in lean years. So yes—it absolutely snows in Argentina, making South America a reliable winter destination between June and early October.
Final Take: A Southern Hemisphere Snow Paradise
If you’re asking whether Bariloche is worth the trip, or if snowboarding in Argentina lives up to the hype—the answer is yes on all counts. It’s affordable, scenic, culturally rich, and offers solid terrain for all abilities. Plus, it gives you the chance to snowboard in July, explore the Andes, and enjoy some of the best snow in South America—all in one trip.
Whether you're a skier or a snowboarder, beginner or seasoned rider, Bariloche is one of those places that stays with you long after the snow melts.
✅ Ready to Ride?
Plan your snowboarding trip to Bariloche and discover a winter experience like no other. With snowy mountains, cozy chalets, and an entire ski town to explore, there’s never been a better time to chase snow south of the equator.

Snowboard Lessons in Switzerland: The Ultimate Guide to Learning on the Slopes
Switzerland is globally renowned for its spectacular mountain ranges, offering snow-covered peaks and perfectly groomed slopes that attract winter sports enthusiasts from around the world. Among the various snow activities available, snowboarding stands out as an adrenaline-pumping and skill-enhancing experience.
Whether you’re a beginner eager to try something new or an intermediate rider looking to refine your technique, taking professional lessons can make all the difference. This guide explores everything you need to know about learning to snowboard in Switzerland, including what to expect from lessons, benefits, and additional opportunities to enhance your skills on the snow.
Why Choose Switzerland for Snowboarding?
Switzerland boasts some of the most famous alpine resorts in Europe, including Zermatt, Verbier, St. Moritz, and Davos. These resorts offer exceptional infrastructure, modern lift systems, and well-maintained snowparks. The natural beauty and high-altitude terrain make the country an ideal place to master snowboarding skills in a picturesque and professional setting.
Plus, many instructors in Switzerland are multilingual and certified, ensuring high-quality coaching in a safe environment.
What to Expect from a Snowboard Lesson
When you book a snowboard lesson in Switzerland, you're signing up for more than just a basic skills session. Instructors begin with the fundamentals—like learning how to balance, glide, and stop—before progressing to turns, carving, and handling steeper slopes.
Group sessions typically last a few hours per day and cater to different skill levels, while private lessons allow for personalized instruction and quicker progression. Most lessons include equipment rentals, making it convenient for travelers who don’t own snowboarding gear.
Enhancing Skills with Freestyle Instruction
For those who already have the basics down and want to take their skills to the next level, enrolling in a freestyle ski lesson is a great option. These sessions often focus on terrain park riding, jumps, and tricks. Freestyle training not only improves agility and confidence but also enhances overall slope awareness and control. Although originally designed for skiers, many snowboarding schools offer similar freestyle training modules adapted for boarders.
Tips for Beginners
Before hitting the slopes, beginners should keep a few things in mind:
Dress appropriately: Waterproof outerwear, layered clothing, and protective gear are essential.
Stay hydrated: High altitudes and physical exertion can lead to dehydration, so drink plenty of water.
Start slow: Avoid the temptation to jump into advanced trails before mastering the basics.
Be patient: Snowboarding has a learning curve, but consistent practice and proper instruction will yield results.
The Importance of Professional Instruction
Learning on your own might seem appealing, but professional instruction significantly reduces the risk of injury and frustration. Instructors can identify and correct bad habits early, help you navigate the mountain safely, and ensure you make steady progress.
Many Swiss resorts tailor lessons for families, kids, and even seniors, making snowboarding an inclusive and enjoyable activity for all. With world-class resorts, certified instructors, and diverse terrains, Switzerland provides the perfect environment for winter sports enthusiasts to learn and grow.
Whether you're taking your first glide down a gentle slope or perfecting your tricks in the snowpark, professional training can greatly enhance your skills and enjoyment. For expertly guided experiences that include snowboard lesson Switzerland and freestyle ski lesson opportunities, look no further than Activalpine.

Ghost Boards : Custom Longboards, Skateboards, longboarding
Tumblr media
Longboarding is a thrilling and accessible sport that has captured the hearts of riders around the world. Whether you're looking for a fun way to commute, a smooth ride to relax, or the excitement of downhill racing, longboarding offers a unique and exhilarating experience. However, if you’re a complete beginner longboard , the thought of picking up a longboard for the first time can feel intimidating. Fear not! This beginner’s guide is designed to give you everything you need to know to start your longboarding journey safely, comfortably, and confidently.
What Is Longboarding?
Longboarding is a variation of skateboarding where the board itself is longer than the standard skateboard, typically ranging from 33 to 59 inches in length. The longer length provides increased stability, making it easier to balance and ride at higher speeds, which is ideal for cruising, carving, downhill racing, and even performing tricks. Because of its versatility, longboarding appeals to a wide range of riders, from casual cruisers to competitive racers. Longboards are designed for smooth rides, and they offer a unique combination of freedom, adventure, and fun.
Choosing the Right beginner longboard
One of the first steps in your longboarding journey is choosing the right board. With so many different styles, shapes, and sizes of longboards, it can be overwhelming to make a decision. However, choosing the right board is crucial to ensure a comfortable and safe experience. Here are a few important factors to consider when selecting your first longboard:
Board Type:
Cruiser Longboards: These are the most common and beginner-friendly type of longboard. They are versatile, stable, and easy to ride, making them ideal for daily cruising, short commutes, and getting a feel for longboarding. They typically have a medium flex and a smooth ride.
Carving Longboards: If you want a ride that mimics the feel of surfing or snowboarding, a carving longboard is a good choice. These boards are great for making smooth, flowing turns and are suitable for beginners looking to improve their control and balance.
Downhill Longboards: If you’re looking to ride fast and tackle steep hills, downhill boards are designed for high speeds and maximum stability. While great for experienced riders, a downhill board can also work for beginners who plan to gradually build their skills and confidence.
Deck Shape:
Symmetrical Deck: This shape offers a balanced ride, making it ideal for freestyle riders and beginners who want to practice various tricks.
Directional Deck: These decks are designed to be ridden in one direction, offering greater stability and control at higher speeds, which is great for cruisers or downhill riders.
Drop-Through Deck: This deck style lowers your center of gravity, making it easier to push and control the board. It's perfect for beginners who want a smooth and stable ride.
Material:
Most beginner longboard are made from wood, such as maple or bamboo. Maple offers a sturdy, durable ride, while bamboo provides flexibility and a lighter feel. For those who want a stiffer, more responsive board, composite materials like fiberglass and carbon fiber are also options.
Wheels:
For beginners, soft wheels (around 78A to 87A durometer) are the best choice. These wheels provide a smooth, cushioned ride and help absorb bumps and rough terrain, making them perfect for cruising and learning to balance.
Trucks:
Trucks are the metal parts that connect the wheels to the deck. Beginners should opt for wider trucks (150mm to 180mm) to provide greater stability and smoother turns. Wider trucks allow for more control when carving and cruising, which is ideal for someone just starting.
Basic Skills for beginner longboard
Now that you’ve selected your longboard, it’s time to start learning the basics! Here are the essential skills you’ll need to develop as a beginner:
Mounting the Longboard:
Mounting the longboard is the first challenge for beginners. Start by standing next to the board and placing your front foot on the deck. Push off with your back foot while maintaining balance. Once you get comfortable with this, practice mounting and dismounting smoothly.
Balancing:
One of the most important skills to master is balance. Stand on the board with both feet and gently shift your weight from one foot to the other. Focus on staying relaxed and finding your center of gravity.
Pushing:
To get your longboard moving, you’ll need to push with your back foot while keeping your front foot planted on the deck. Practice pushing in a straight line until you feel comfortable with the motion. As you get more confident, you can start pushing faster.
Turning:
Turning on a longboard is done by leaning into the direction you want to go. Begin by shifting your weight to your toes or heels to make your board turn. The more you practice, the smoother and more controlled your turns will become.
Braking:
As a beginner, it’s crucial to learn how to stop safely. The most common method for beginners is foot braking, where you place your back foot on the ground while keeping your front foot on the board. This will gradually slow you down and bring you to a stop. Always practice braking in a safe, open area until you feel confident.
Safety Tips for Beginners
Safety is essential when learning to longboard, especially if you’re just starting. Here are some tips to ensure you stay safe on your longboard:
Wear Protective Gear:
Always wear a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards when you’re learning. Protective gear can help reduce the risk of injury if you fall, and it’s especially important as you practice balance and gain confidence.
Start Slow:
Begin with slow rides on smooth, flat surfaces. Avoid trying to ride downhill or at high speeds until you’ve built up your skills. Start in an open, quiet area with plenty of space to practice without distractions.
Check Your Equipment:
Before each ride, check your longboard to ensure everything is secure. Tighten any loose bolts on the trucks and make sure the wheels are in good condition. A well-maintained board will be safer and easier to ride.
Ride in Safe Locations:
Always ride on smooth, quiet paths or empty parking lots to start. Avoid busy streets or areas with heavy traffic. Make sure you have enough space to practice your skills and avoid obstacles.
Conclusion: Start Your Longboarding Adventure with Confidence
Longboarding is an exciting and rewarding activity that offers endless opportunities for fun and freedom. As beginner longboard, it may take time to build your skills, but with patience and practice, you’ll soon be cruising with confidence. By choosing the right longboard, learning the basic skills, and following safety tips, you can enjoy a smooth, thrilling ride. So, grab your board, start practicing, and join the world of longboarding!

Job Market and Industries in Denver, Colorado

The energy sector, especially renewable energy, has also been expanding in recent years. Remote work has become more common, making Denver a great place to live while working for companies based elsewhere. Salaries tend to be solid, though the cost of living has risen. Still, people keep moving here for the job options and the lifestyle balance. With a mix of big-name corporations and small businesses, there's a lot of opportunity if you're willing to look.

Understanding Skiing Terminology: A Glossary for Beginners
If you’re new to skiing, all the jargon and technical terms can be a bit overwhelming. But don’t worry—understanding some basic skiing terminology can help you feel more confident and prepared on the slopes. Whether you’re gearing up for your first run or heading out for some skiing deep snow, here’s a simple glossary to get you started.
1. Carving
Carving is when you make smooth, clean turns on the snow. Instead of skidding or sliding, your skis cut into the snow, creating a sharp edge. It’s a technique used to make controlled and efficient turns, especially on groomed trails.
2. Edge
The edge of your ski is the metal strip along the side. It helps you grip the snow and make turns. Learning to use your edges properly is key to skiing confidently, especially when navigating more challenging terrain like skiing deep snow.
3. Powder
Powder refers to fresh, light, and fluffy snow. It’s often found off the beaten path and is highly sought after by skiers for its soft and smooth riding experience. If you’re interested in skiing deep snow, powder is what you’ll be looking for!
4. Goggles
Goggles are protective eyewear that shields your eyes from snow, wind, and bright sunlight. They help you see clearly and stay comfortable while skiing. Make sure your goggles fit well and have proper UV protection.
5. Bindings
Bindings are the parts of your skis that hold your boots in place. They are adjustable to fit different boot sizes and can release in case of a fall to help prevent injuries.
6. Pole Plants
Pole plants are when you use your ski poles to help with balance and timing while turning. As you turn, you push the pole into the snow to stabilize yourself and guide your movement.
7. Moguls
Moguls are bumps or mounds of snow that form on the slope. They create a bumpy terrain that can be challenging to ski over. Skiers who enjoy a bit of a challenge often practice skiing moguls to improve their technique and control.
8. Snowplow
The snowplow (or pizza as some call it) is a basic skiing position where your skis are angled inward to form a “V” shape. This position helps you slow down and control your speed, making it ideal for beginners.
9. Après-Ski
Après-ski refers to the social activities and relaxation that take place after a day on the slopes. It’s a great way to unwind, enjoy some food and drinks, and share stories about your day.
10. Terrain Park
A terrain park is an area designed for skiers and snowboarders to practice tricks and jumps. It features obstacles like rails, boxes, and jumps, which are set up for freestyle skiing.
11. Base Area
The base area is the starting point of the ski resort where you’ll find facilities like ski rentals, ticket booths, and often food and beverage options. It’s where you’ll begin and end your day on the slopes.
12. Glade
A glade is a forested area with spaced-out trees that provides natural skiing terrain. Skiing in a glade can be a fun adventure, especially if you’re exploring off-piste or deep snow areas.
13. Uphill Travel
Uphill travel refers to the process of moving up the mountain, usually using special equipment or techniques, like climbing skins on your skis. This is often used by backcountry skiers to access unmarked or off-trail areas.
14. Flat Light
Flat light occurs when the sky is overcast or snowy, reducing contrast on the snow. It can make it harder to see changes in terrain, so it’s important to be extra cautious and adjust your skiing technique accordingly.
Conclusion
Getting familiar with skiing terminology can make your time on the slopes more enjoyable and less confusing. Whether you’re mastering the art of skiing deep snow or just learning the basics, understanding these terms will help you feel more confident and prepared for your skiing adventures. So, next time you hit the mountain, you’ll know exactly what’s what and can focus on having a fantastic time.
