Sorry about that. I’m online a lot but i’m often not actively writing more than a sentence at a time unless something gets me in a screaming mood. I have some salty asks i’ve yet to answer. 

i’m likely around between 7-10pm central USA time. but not even every day. i do work form about 8 am - 4/5 pm central time. sometimes until 7. i tend to cook or get food between 5 and 8 and eat with my husband. so fandom time is a bit up in the air and i still owe fics and gif sets to people i’m working on... >.< i’m so slow! Also, any time after 10 is me being stupid and staying up past my bedtime. ^_^; which actually happens a lot. and if i do it too much by brain goes poof. 

so don’t panic unless you don’t see any sort of answer for 36 hrs. i reserve the right to post something like “i got your ask but no time to actually answer” and then answer outside of the 48 hrs. but i will try to communicate! i really appreciate the follow-up because i’ve heard tumblr eats asks!

oh boy. you’re asking me to talk about tea. hahaha. snowbunny has dug themselves a rabbithole. how appropriate for this fandom. 

Ok. let’s start with my favorite tea: i don’t have any. it’s not a cop-out answer. my mood changes ALL the time and while i tend to go for floral and green things sometimes i want a earthy minerally tea. I love all sorts of teas and when i explain tea a bit more you’ll see why i can’t pick a favorite. ^_^

So why do i like tea? There’s so much to learn! Sit back for a Tea 101. 

Tea, PROPER TEA (with pinky up and a snooty stuffy voice), comes from the Camellia sinensis (which i have to google the spelling of every time). White, Green, Oolong, Black, and the lesser known Yellow and Dark teas ALL come from Camellia sinensis. This includes assam, ceylon, darjeeling, matcha, dahongpao, tieguanyin, lapsang suchong, and even *GASP* lipton (i think.... though i loathe to include it). The difference in flavors of these styles is due to  tea plant genetics, environment, and processing. (Flavored teas are made by incubation with something that caries a smell like food grade essential oils, flowers, fruit, or even smoke and then blended and balanced but that’s a TOTALLY different topic and something i’m slightly less fascinated by.)

Tea plant genetics: while all tea comes from (supposedly -- there’s some interesting conversations about yunnan and taiwan teas being a hybrid of camillia sinensis and local tea-like species but i haven’t really looked into it) one species, like dogs have breeds, tea plants have cultivars.  This means that if you take cuttings of one tea plant you can make clones of it! and some famous chinese teas are actually named for the cultivar. For example, Dan Congs (”single bush“) are teas named after the cultivar. Even if many Dan Congs are grown in the same area and processed similarly, the cultivar’s genetics affect the flavors of the tea. 

Environment: like wine and coffee and really anything horticultural, the microenvironment tea grows in affects its properties. The amount of rain, fog, sun, shade, humidity, etc in a year or around picking season influences how the tea turns out. I have bought the same tea from the same vendor who sources from the same farmers every year and i can taste a difference. It’s amazing and fascinating. and a TON of fun. According to a tea vendor my family likes to buy from in China, some levels of Chinese tea certification requires a person to be able to taste the difference between regions and sides of mountains. Some japanese tea is grown in the shade so that the leaves would develop a more favorable flavor profile. There is a lot of stuff i don’t know about how tea plant growing influences flavor and i want to learn about it all! 

And finally PROCESSING: This is where the classes of tea are differentiated: White, Green, Oolong, Black, and the lesser known Yellow and Dark. Each tea classification is processed differently. The basic steps of processing are a mix and match of drying/withering, rolling/crushing for bruising), oxidation, fixation (applying heat to denature enzymes), sweltering (yellowing), shaping with additional rolling/crushing, drying, and post process fermentation (think pu-er and aging teas in general where microbes alter flavor over YEARS). Not all teas go through every step and the difference in how the teas are handled at the different steps change how much of molecules are broken down and ultimately affects the taste and sometimes even how the tea feels in your mouth as you drink it. 

So yeah. There is a LOT to learn about tea. I would like to be able to drink a tea and tell you something about the environment the year the tea was picked or about the processing or about the plant it came from. I’m not there yet. but i’m a nerd and i love smells and flavors and tea really offers me a fairly healthy way to drink my way through smells and science and culture. So i love it because it has so much to offer and i know SO LITTLE about it!

GOD I ENVY YOU ajskskks i'm an introvert and like.... i can't start or hold a conversation. mdzs is pretty much the first fandom that made me actually talk to people and get friends? i've got a bunch of mutuals where we don't really talk but y'know we like know, which is cool bcs all of them are intimidating af but i love them. then i got a couple of mutuals that i talk and shit post with and just, talk to? one of them is like.... really late in answering conversations but then again 98% of our conversations is me making her cry over wangxian. so that's fair ig. there's a mutual of mine that is learning my language, so sometimes we'll start talking in it and i will tell her if her grammar or anything sounds weird. (like, we have a formal you and an informal you, she often used the formal you with me which sounds weird bcs we're friends. also bcs this is tumblr. if she uses it with anons it's not that weird but still funny)

last week was great (i watched the tencent awards yesterday but i didn't understand anything they were saying, so yeah.) this week is christmas!! do you have any plans for it? i don't, the only thing planned is the food. which i don't have too cook myself, thankfully. imagine me cooking, the whole kitchen would burn down probably. (i'm decent enough at baking, so that makes up for it)

which two characters would you like to meet your parents and which character should stay tf away from your parents? ngl my parents would love wwx, i'm not even kidding. as a kid i used to be a lot like him, so yeah they would probably know how to handle him (also i got friends that are energetically? just like him). then probably one of the twin jades, my dad would clash with nmj i think, so that wouldn't work out well. i'd prefer to go with lan xichen tho, since i don't want wangxian to make out 24/7 and ALSO PLEASE SPARE THE GUEST ROOK THE WALLS AREN'T THICK ENOUGH but otherwise i would go with wwx & lwj, if the risk wasn't too high. my parents would like both of them probably. i could also see jiang yanli being adored by my mother and my sister and just... my brother really likes her in the donghua (he doesn't like jc in the donghua, which.... i understand). one person my parents wouldn't get along with is definitely jiang cheng. or madam yu. jiang cheng would just clash with my whole family's temperament and the same goes with madam yu.

no need to be envious snowbunny! i think being an introvert/extrovert and start/holding a conversation are very different things. as an extrovert i just end up awkward a lot. and i start conversations without ever know how i will get received. it’s more about just charging in and hoping for the best. if they hate the way i am, well, uh... oh, well. i didn’t know them anyway. not much loss on my end. and that’s kinda how i made some of my best friends here!

i’m gonna make hotpot and eat with my husband for xmas eve and have leftovers on xmas. it will be good and chill. i have a board game i’d like to play with him. hopefully i’ll get some fandom related stuff i want to get done done. i am SO BEHIND on stuff. I have two fic prompts that i asked for in october that i haven’t filled. not because i don’t want to but because some other stuff came up that took up all my bandwidth.

(god please tell me if i'm annoying? i just want to send you as many asks as i can but if i get too annoying, pls tell me off) my questions today are, what are your top 3 songs from the cql ost and what tea do you not like? like, is there a tea you don't like? also, is there a tea you like in particular? what cdramas have you watched besides cql?? - ❄🐇

cql ost fav songs: the characters songs for jiang cheng, lan xichen, and wei wuxian. they’re all so pretty and so sad. bu wang kinda  annoys me with the epic orchestra thing in the middle and wuji almost makes the cut but it’s just not as depressing as the others. though wei wuxian’s character song does lose points for the duet part that has a female voice and not yibo singing along... alas. 

i don’t like lipton? lol. so most ctc blends i’m meh on... but i don’t add milk and sugar to my tea for the most part so i need something that works well by itself and most ctc teas are made for british style drinking. 

i like many teas in particular. particularly their aroma and texture. some are light and airy and sweet. some are heavy and grounding. some are earthy and warming and smooth. i love so many teas for so many reasons. i can’t even begin to explain. i think high elevation taiwanese oolongs with crisp sweet and floral notes are a style that i will always love and always hold dear to my heart. 

i used to be really into BPAL (black phoenix alchemy lab) because i like the idea of smells carrying memories for people. and i like the idea of being able to differentiate smells and remember how things blend together to form flavors and then, in extension, feelings. so i got really into bpal -- which is an indie perfume company-- and started collecting samples (imps). in all of that i started getting better at picking out certain smell objects (e.g. rose or orange or honey etc) and really loving how bpal smells different wet in bottle, wet on me, dry on me, and dry at the end of a day. 

and then i realized tea has a lot of those qualities. it tastes different piping hot and kinda hot and warm and cooled. it has layers and dimensions. when you gongfu brew you can almost parse out the layers of flavors and really experience isolated snapshots of the tea as a whole. i liken it to chromatography for the chemistry folk. and in some ways tea became the merging of my nerdy science self and smell obsessed self and my gluttonous self. so it was a good fit. also booze. but booze is less.. socially acceptable to drink 24/7. :P

anyway, cdramas. omg. uh... a lot. i’m chinese so i grew up watching stuff... like i’ve been watching cdramas for a LONG time. (note: i went on a long ramble and i’m kinda sorry so don’t feel obligated to read all of this... ) i watched the mainland china’s version of journey to the west (made in 1986 i think.. go them on video tapes borrowed from idk where in the early 90s... the one episode i wanted to watch the most didn’t work. i was devastated).  and then a lot of wuxia shows -- mostly jin yong stuff. i remember i was 8 or 9 and watched a few eps of condor heroes. my parents finished the show without me. i was pissed. and at some point i watched dream of red mansion and romance of three kingdoms. both classics made into cdramas. and then i remember when zhao wei was in princess pearl. and i also watched 情深深雨蒙蒙 with basically the same cast... and a lot of other wuxia shows that came out around that time..uh.. early 2000s. i remember watching some show with zhou xun in it too around that time... and trying to find more stuff with zhang ziyi. man... zhou xun, zhao wei, and zhang ziyi were and are still all so pretty! and then i watched liu yifei (of live action mulan infamy) back in 2003(?) when she was in a few jin yong novel based show roles. and then um... i kinda got annoyed with the constant remake of those stories so i stopped watching them. but i did enjoy 天龙八部 and 笑傲江湖. seriously, i would watch the crap out of a 笑傲江湖 starring xiao zhan... but the novels were written in the 60s/70s and rather not LGBT friendly so i’m also fine with them never getting remakes... and then there was the meteor garden craze. i watched that, part of teh sequel (which wasn’t very good) and a few shows the actors were in... i really liked the MARS manga and was sad that the taiwanese adaptation of it as a show was meh. and around 2013-2014ish i started watching random crap... uh... like my first time seeing luo yunxi (who plays the white cat master aka chu wanning in hao yi xing / the erha live action) was in 何以笙箫默. and i was so confused by how weirdly they styled the poor man. he did not look good. the stying really emphasized his facial features to make his face look unbalanced. and i binged a few other shows while trying to write my thesis. i don’t remember them all. and then there was NiF and i also watched the Disguiser and some other random stuff as part of that rabbit hole. i thought “when a snail falls in love” was really cute even if the story wasn’t really that good. idk. i now put cdramas on in the bkgd while making gifs. so i’ve “watched” eternal love, ashes of love (DO NOT RECOMMEND. but skip around for luo yunxi being pretty i guess), love o2o. i’m currently seriously watcihng Ever Night. it’s so freaking good and king’s avatar (also on netflix) is my gif making bkgd. i have a soft spot for how pretty yang yang is... yeah. knowing the language helps me get through shows. lol.

ajsksk hey! i'm so sorry for not taking time earlier but i've got a little bit of time rn. christmas is a very busy time for my family since my brother's birthday follows right after the christmas days on the 28th!! and then my birthday is on the fifth january and y'know we cook a lot of food and bake a lot.

i can't for the life of me remember if i sent an ask already, but yeah the emojis where wwx. i thought going with a skull would be too obvious so i went with something that could've been wen ning too, except for the paint. which is kind of a reference to the fact that in a lot of modern aus wwx is an artist and that in canon he drew lwj!!

some questions: do you prefer spicy, sour or sweet food? i'm not a fan of spicy things since i have a low tolerance (in contrast to my siblings and my father), i actually quite like eating sour things because i think it's really enjoyable. you could see me biting happily into a lemon just so i can taste the sourness. i like sweet things too!!

did you have any wishes for christmas? and if yes, did you get it? i got a new game called ghost of tsushima, it's set in ancient japan and is about the samurai jin sakai and his journey of freeing his homeland from the mongols. which kind of results in him going against the samurai codex so that he can protect his people. that's how he earns the title "the ghost" (while yeah his uncle insists that jin would never go against his teachings and the samurai codex, which... he kind of does but also doesn't?? it's hard because he is the last real samurai in tsushima and they're at war). anyways, sorry for ranting!!

i like all food? there’s a sichuan flavor profile called “fish fragrance” and it’s garlic, ginger, green onions, sugar, and vinegar mixed with sichuan spicy bean paste. So can i just say yes? look. fish fragrant eggplant is one of my top favorite vegetarian dishes. OMG so gooooood. so is fish fragrant pork... which sounds weird but is DELCIOUS... mmmmm... i like eating sour things too. definitely guilty of giving myself chemical burns from warheads as a kid... did anyone else do that? lol. 

uh... wishes for xmas? i was hoping for something but it was really expensive and i didn’t actually ask for it. i didn’t get it but i don’t mind.  i did get tea though! and teas i don’t usually drink or buy for myself!! so i’m excited! :D japanese teas are not something i end up exploring often... i still don’t know if one of the teas i got is an oolong or a black tea though... it’s labeled oolong black ginger or something like that. looks like a black tea... but maybe a roasted oolong? ope. the ginger smells are AMAZING in that tea and overpower other notes... so i’ll have to brew it and guess. i’m so excited to try it! I also got a yuzu sencha that might have matcha mixed in... so i’ll have to find my good filter for it... and a hojicha. mmmmm. tea! 

i don’t have any tattoos. I am unlikely to get any. it’s mostly because i don’t want to permanently put something on my body. i only have my ear lobes pierced. I’m fairly conservative/reserved... except for the streak of color i have in my hair... but i can always grow that out... i say this but i’ve had a streak of color in my hair since 2006... so eh? lol. other people want tattoos? by all means. I'll admire the pretty and have things to talk to people about. i love so many of my friends’ tattoos! one of my friend has what he calls a nerd barcode. he has a D&D dragon ampersand, a cow-like wolf from wheel of time, and something else that i can’t remember. those are all things HE WILL TALK ABOUT so having it on his arm is pretty neat. He also has a biohaz symbol on his chest. something about a game he used to play. idk. another one of my friends does a lot of amtgard and has chainmail/armor patterns on his upper arm. really neat looking. if i got one, it would probably be something octopus related or an inside joke with my husband... but like i said, i don’t really want a tattoo.

hey, i hope you have/had a great day!! i don't engage with any ships were wangxian is with another person, both not lwj/other person wwx/other person and wangxian/other person. it just... doesn't feel right? it makes me pretty uncomfortable tbh (mxy himself makes me uncomfortable too and idk why). chengxian for other reasons too, like my dislike for jc plays a role in that. xiyao is fine in modern aus? the same with nmj/jgy. xuexiao is really..... nope. normally i just dislike ships with jc? i just can't see him in a relationship but if they come up in fics that's fine. which one is your favorite sect and in which one would want you to live in? your favorite one doesn't have to be the one you'd want to live in. i think i'd like to live in gusu with the lans bcs it seems kind of relaxing? though i wouldn't have anything against the jiang Sect either! i gotta admit that sect leader yao is entertaining but i still dislike him, the same with sect leader ouyang. jgs can rot in hell for all i care. idk if jiang fengmian qualifies as an unpopular character but i kind of liked him. lan qiren had his moments, for both of them it mostly is how authors portray them in fics. my favorite characters are definitely lwj and wwx, wq and jyl are also in my top 5 and nhs and lxc share a place with wn. xxc gets a mention too bcs i love him. - ❄🐇

favorite sect and where i want to live are probably the same: lotus pier when wwx was growing up. sounds fun. i like water. i like the aesthetics. and i dislike too many rules. i’m a decently strong swimmer so i’d fit right in. and lotus pods and roots are DELICIOUS. 

hahha. jfm is kinda unpopular. i get it from a western perspective. but he’s not an uncommon father type, imo.

i think that's the most i've learned about tea like.... ever! i've mostly had like these typical teas that people drink when they're sick. i remember having black tea once but it wasn't really my thing? i had darjeeling once when we were visiting friends, though i think it was a regionally blend? i really don't know much about tea but i will listen to your tea rambling anytime!! my least favorite characters are pretty much the same! some posts make me actually more sympathetic to su she but.... i still can't stand him. i feel like i'm beginning to dislike jiang cheng? not to the point of hating but I just find the other versions of him, that are not cql, unsympathetic and iffy in some things. i wouldn't necessarily add him to that list though. who are your favorite characters? an unpopular character that you like and one you dislike? a ship (or multiple) that you don't like? - ❄🐇

@merelhyn​ once kindly pointed me to a MXTX post where MXTX says she wrote JC to be a villain. So your opinions are valid. CQL makes a lot of things a lot more lovable, IMO. Even WWX. 

I love so many characters for all sorts of different reasons. Can i just hug them all? WWX, LWJ, LXC, JC, JYL, JZXuan, JL, LSZ, LJY, WN, WQ, NMJ, NHS, SL, XXC, XY, A-qing. seriously. i love so many of the characters. hahahaha. 

unpopular character that I like? hm... i think the closest is XY but he’s very popular... so idk. i think the characters are all so compelling that most of them are well loved by much of fandom. Maybe YZY? She might be the least popular character i’m fascinated by and have a really hard time hating. what about you?

unpopular character i dislike? hm... idk probably most of them? but tbh JGS can go burn in 20 levels of hell. and sect leader yao can go yeet himself off a cliff without a sword. 

ship i dislike!!! OOOOOH! So I don’t ship chengxian, xiyao, nmj/jgy, xuexiao. I find chengxian to be weird because wangxian is everything and they’re too much like brothers. they’re not actually brothers. it’s not actually incest. i just don’t see it. 

xiyao and nmj/jgy suffer both from jgy being an atrocious human. fun to explore. not a happy ending. will not ship with it as end game. 

xuexiao is the worst gaslighting and abuse that i can imagine. it’s so bad. nope nope nope. if i were to write a fic from xy’s perspective, i could see a xuexiao ship... but it would be highly unreliable narration and a lot of weird egomaniac sociopathic xue yang self delusional justification. and it wouldn’t end well. xuexiao, no matter how i see it, would never be my end game. 

Do you have ships you don’t engage in?

hm... black tea is interesting. i’d try it with milk and sugar first to get used to it... but i do have a college friend who said tea tastes like flavor being sucked out of her mouth... which is valid? i guess? in some senses tea does take on whatever it’s incubated with... so maybe there’s truth to that statement... hahaha.

hey!! it's snowbunny!! 🐇 so i've been talking to my mutuals and just y'know doing stuff to feel better, which is a bit hard bcs i'm lowkey stressed, but i talked to a close irl friend (or... who was close? idk what we're now but we had a fall out this year, then kinda reconciled but yeah it's awkward now. she's still the first person i turn to (if possible) when i know that i'm getting a panic attack. she just knows how to handle me and the situation and idk but we get through these things together pretty easy.) anwyays!! what have you been up to? how are you? and your husband too? idk you've mentioned him a couple of times i think and yeah i really have no inspiration today so take this lame questions, if you could speak a language of your choice fluently, which one would it be? it can be something like latin, old norse or ancient greek too! do you have comfort songs? if yes, what are your comfort songs? favorite songs (name as many as you like! idc about genre or language just throw it out). also idk but like what did you do during quarantine? i just watched tv shows and basked in the fact that society is letting me stay at home without being judged for it. - ❄🐇

Hey snowbunny! Sorry I haven’t gotten back to you for a couple of days. i’m good. i started reading another danmei novel and it kinda sucked me in. oops. it’s called  The Wife is First. It’s really cute and sweet. my husband is good too. :) thank you for asking. 

oh god, speak a language of my choosing... idk. maybe arabic only because it seems SO DIFFERENT from chinese and english. i’m really incompetent at picking up languages... but you did say speak... and i’d like the choice to include reading... since i don’t think i’d ever speak arabic... lol. and idk what variety of it... o.O 

i don’t music well. i don’t really have comfort songs? i don’t go back to the same stuff. I just put things on as bkgd noise. currently my bkgd work playlist is a lot of kpop and cdrama soundtracks. i really like the end theme to Ever Night and the CQL soundtrack and the end theme of Joy of Life. Idk. just things i come across i’ll shove in a playlist and remove them if they annoy me. It’s not well curated. 

i think quarantine is still present tense. and tbh, i joined tumblr and *waves hand* this. this is what i’m doing in quarantine. lol. i miss friends. i miss cooking for people and hosting parties at home... and i really really miss traveling and planning adventures. oooof. it’s ok. i like having my husband around. he keeps my mental health fairly stable. hahaha.

ah i'm reading the song of achilles, trying to do my reread of the silmarillion, finishing mdzs and i also want to read a bit from goethe? he was a german poet, writer and a scientist, he is probably (next to the grimm brothers and schiller) the most famous german writer. so i'm trying to read faust first and one of his other works later maybe? currently i'm super slow at reading and have resorted to finally play one of my video games online instead. (while i have like two others still sitting there unfinished and another one should arrive after christmas) anyways, questions of the day are: what is your favorite season and why? mine is winter because the snow looks beautiful, you're allowed to be lazy and i was born in winter. who are your top 5 artists and your current top 3 fics? oooh. silmarillion. i have never read it. my husband tries to tell me stuff from it though! i have heard of goethe but never read him. i listened to circe (i think by the same author as song of achilles) and it wasn’t my thing. which is sad because i like retellings for the most part. so i haven’t tried to read song of achilles. should i try anyway? 

i’m really slow at reading too... i do audiobooks better. get through content as i cook. 

what videogames do you play? i only play heroes of hte storm lately and not that much of that. my husband is making me watch stephen universe with him. it’s super cute. and i’ve been flying through ever night season 1 with chen feiyu. it’s really really good. 

i like fall. not too cold. best foods and holidays. pretty colors. and i like the way the crunch of leaves feel.

ah hey! snowbunny again, and this time it's 6am where i live so yeah. i'd probably pick mandarin? it would make watching cdramas so much easier i think, and just in general? a year or so back i probably would've picked russian, my father had to learn russian when he was a kid and he still speaks it partly, one of my close friends family is from russia too, so i could speak it with her too. but rn? mandarin would probably the one i'd like to be fluent in.

the cql ost is currently 80% of my comfort playlist, though one of my mutuals and i (more like me and she just has to suffer through it and i enjoy making her cry) are making a wangxian playlist! it wasn't meant to be as angsty as everything turned out to be so far, but i'm not complaining. except for like one song everything is in english, the other song is in german actually and we're not sure if it categories as angst or happy. the acoustic version makes the song sound incredibly sad, the lyrics is somewhere between sad and happy, basically between "you make me happy" and "why did it have to be this way in the first place?". if you want to be specific, the song talks about the other person lifting a burden from your heart "freed it, revived it" is one of the lines, and.... it's a great song but 🤧🤧🤧 then there are these lines "[i] was stuck and didn't know what to do / and you took hammer and chisel / made an artwork* out of my cold heart" (ig to make it flow better you could say "made a masterpiece out of my cold heart" but he says "Kunstwerk" eng. artwork). idk the whole lyrics flows better in german but if you want to listen to it (i prefer the acoustic) it's Betonherz by Wincent Weiss (Cement-heart).

Today idk what to ask so: what are your favorite mutuals/the ones you interact with the most? was there anything you wanted to do this year but couldn't? a random fun fact over tea maybe? mandarin is pretty handy. i will vouch for that. i listened to erha audiodrama on maoer FM today while i was cooking. it was delightful. i had to google the languages you sent in. i know nothing of lotr. but @phoenixrisesoncemore is good with lotr. does neat art. loves untamed. great tea friend. so i would probably reach out to her! :D

cql ost is a lot of what i’ve listened to this year too. i’m really digging teh “I will take you life” song from Ever Night though. It’s so perfectly chipper. I come from so and so place, i’m here to take you life. I just giggle every time i hear it. a little morbid, but alas. Also, the end theme of ever night is cute and chipper too. and the words are really nice. I also LOVE the opening theme of love and redemption. it makes me think of some 80s rock ballad or something. and the words “Even if i drank the waters of wangchuan, I will not fail to meet you again” is really romantic. 

Uh... in case you don’t know what wangchuan is, it’s the river that make you forget your past life before reincarnation. so it’s a pretty intense promise IMO. I really dig that idea... maybe it’s because i read erha and wife is first back to back and now i’m all on board with the idea of “if i get a second chance i won’t fuck it up”. 

oh god. the two mutuals I talk to the most are definitely @needtherapy and @merelhyn. if i go more than 24 hrs without hearing from them i feel weird. I really wanna go on a trip post pandemic to visit merelhyn and spend a day drinking tea with her. and i really want needtherapy to visit me so i can make her crawl through the bowels of the place where i got married -- it’s a weird modern art, industrial playground space filled with mosaics and concrete and ironwork sculptures. it is actually that cool. but you can’t really wear nice clothes there. i’ve ripped holes in shirts before. AND it has a circus school inside. it’s the place of litte haoppo’s dreams. I also talk to lots of other people i didn’t mention (e.g. members of mdzsnet and other friends of mine) but that’s just because i am an extrovert and i talk to people. i like talking to people. and there are SO MANY AMAZING PEOPLE on tumblr. but the two i listed are people who i swapped irl phone numbers with so they get listed as special. i’m drawing my line here or i would probably end up writing a page of people who i adore and that might get annoying :/

how did you even get into mdzs/cql and which adaptions have you consumed? i got into it through a friend, a part of one of my previous fandom started reblogging things from cql and at first i ignored it (oh why??!?!). later friend had a wen qing icon and my bi ass started to freak out bcs !!!!!! and then at one point we were talking about fandoms and she brought it up, saying that i'd love it (which i did). so i thought, why not give it a try? a few months later i'm here and still in love with like.... everything. with that i mean wangxian bcs they're everything. - ❄🐇

i’m doing ok. took today off from work to burn PTO. 

oh god. ok. the thing with choosing spiritual weapon is i’ve had an ideal set of weapons in my head for AGES. Like back when i was a wuxia nut, i knew exactly what i wanted and it hasn’t changed in the last 15-20 years... yeah. it’s been THAT long since i was in middleschool. orz.

Anyway, i wanted a flute made out of a really study material -- so pretty much just like chenqing. jade would shatter too easily. metal probably dent too easily. some sort of high hardness but also not brittle material would be idea... or i would just have to imbue it with enough spiritual energy it doesn’t matter... i love the way chenqing looks so definitely carvings and coloring would be part of my ideal spiritual weapon. 

i also wanted a fan with titanium or some sort of mythical metal (yin iron works) backbone and spider silk fabric (this was inspired by me reading that spider silk is stronger by weight than steel wool and decided yeah,that’s what i want... and literally more than a decade after i decided that for my fantasy weapon, some scientists actually made spider silk fabric from golden orb weaver silk. it’s so freaking cool). Ideally there would be a mechanism for retractable blades. Pointy ends good for stabbing. I’m not above using poison but not something deadly. So no thanks tetrodotoxin and no thanks poison dart frog toxins!  i think my favorite venom used in wuxia was bee venom. though i’d settle for mosquito spit -- the stuff that makes a person super itch all over. 

the flute would be used for blocking attacks and also spiritual energy attacks from the soundwaves. the fan would be used for stabbing but also as a projectile and diversion. idk what image i’d want on the fan. i used to be phoenixes... probably i’d pick something punny and/or tea related now.  i think i gave the fan more thought than the flute back in the day. at least the spider silk thing is pretty neat, imo. 

as for a sword...  hm... who i am now would want something purple and/or blue with silver. lotus motifs are good but maybe a bit too yunmeng jiang. sect specific motifs aside, i’d probably pick something either involving tea, foxes, or water. it would be made for speed and not brute strength.

so in nov 2019 i went to china for a week for funsies. went to xi’an and beijing. on the way from xi’an and beijing, i was on an overnight train and shared a compartment with two women in their 20s. i asked them for tv show recs and they gave me uh... eternal love and ashes of love. they were on netflix so i watched those. i wanted more chinese shows so after some deliberating, decided to watch cql. i was like, the actors are ok looking. but i really want to know what netflix means by “soulmate”. my not so inner BL shipping fangirl was sold on that one word. I watched it as i watch all shows -- semi paying attention while playing phone games... but i ended up being hooked... and yeah.... 

i have read the (unedited... oops, i dled an epub and uh didn’t realize there was an edited and unedited version?) version of the novel in chinese, watched cql, caught up with mdzs q, listened to 1.5 seasons of the AD, and watched S1 and maybe a bit of S2 of the donghua and read thru a lot of the manhua but lost track of where i was. so yes. i’ve consumed a lot of it... it kinda took over my soul in late jan into march. i made this account in feb to post the doodles of wangxian i was making to get out my obsession.

pfffft. soulmates. the one thing netflix did right for the show.

i've thought about weapons a bit, not that much but like... a bit. having a sword would be so cool?? like damn!! i love swords ugh. fans are like super cool but not really my thing and I'm not that good w instruments, (though, when i was a kid i did play a bit of flute even if i wasn't that good) so probably no chenqing for me. maybe something like zidian? i think that zidian is extremely cool as a weapon, technically seen if you aim good, you could just take the weapons out of your enemies hands ig? so, a sword and a zidian for me (but in a different color, if that is possible? probably red bcs i really like red).

man i wish i could speak mandarin, next to english i speak one other language (my native one), i used to learn latin but i gave up on that and then i had french which was also quickly dismissed. (french bcs i have a personal dislike against the language) it was a mint tea i believe? yeah.

so, the first fics that come to my mind are 'love, in fire and blood' by cicer (a yiling patriarch + lwj war prize au, no rape or dubcon involved if you don't like that/are triggered by that) 'murder of crows' by cerbykerby (a yilingwei sect au), 'an arrow through time' by syrus_jones (time travel au, young lwj gets send into the future, nobody knows where older lwj is), 'a song to bring you home' by NeoSerenity (a dimension (universe?) travel au with lwj getting into a modern world and meeting a very sick, actually dying wwx), 'how to bring a smile to the emperor' by alienvolumeplanetenwooh (a nice little wwx emperor + lwj cultivator + lsz orphan fic), 'even if it breaks time' by WhiteSoul (a time travel fix it where multiple characters get slowly send back), 'regrets' by antebunny (a time travel au oneshot where lwj actually (accidentally) killed wwx at never night and they travel back to their first meeting). that's a bunch of fics i recommend even if i have some more, they were just the first that came to my mind!! if there are any tropes you like more or if there are any that you're uncomfortable with, let me know!! ex: i'm uncomfortable with mpreg and a/b/o aus)- ❄🐇

凌云 means reach the clouds but 铃 sounds like 凌 and means bell... and 陨 sounds like 云 but can mean perish... I'll have to think about that... Hmmmm...

it's the 28th!! there is not much time left of the year, is there? i'm gonna send you a couple more asks than usually probably, just for the sake of it. to get out things like this before the reveal where i'm gonna get back into being a shy introvert idiot!! so i've been playing my new game, ghost of tsushima, and it's!!!! good lord, the graphic of the game is stunning (for the most part, the horses look a bit weird sometimes but still cute) and the main character is such an interesting character? basically jin sakai is a samurai, the opening scene is a battle where almost eighty-or so samurai die. his uncle, lord shimura, who raised and trained, him is captured by the mongol leader kotun kahn. jin gets saved by a thief called yuna, she rescues him after the battle when she looks for things to steal from the dead bodies. when jin wakes up he basically gets his armor back with yuna, she sold it to a merchant in order to buy medecine, he goes straight to the castle where they keep his uncle. as you would expect, he doesn't succeed. instead he gets thrown off a bridge, it's fucking high and even jin doesn't know how he survived that fall. (we also get some flashbacks every now and then, apparently his father was killed protecting his people and jin blames himself because he was a coward who was too afraid to fight (he was a fucking kid and i-). so the game goes on and we help jin fight against the mongols and free the people of tsushima, he makes allies for when he takes back (his uncle's castle i believe?) the castle where his uncle is being held. which i already did by now, so the next step is getting back this other castle, (jin's castle? or his uncle's? it's from one of them) the description says that "whoever reigns the castles reigns the island," so this is kinda bad. 50% of the time i'm really just trying to figure out the fighting system with jin's hidden weapons (ajksks it's a bit complicated but i think i've got it?) and idk questioning what honor means. that's a big topic of the game. at the beginning of the game we get a flashback, his uncle asks jin what honor means. he replies with "his father's words," so his uncle asks again. jin's reply is "protecting people i guess, those that cannot defend themselves." but then later the game tells us that the things he does is not deemed honorable, which is probably a cultural thing? he attacks from the shadows if necessary, if it means saving the lives of the people he wants to protect, to take back his homeland. but his uncle teaches him that only cowards strike from the shadow, that's it's dishonorable and not something samurais do (which is probably correct idk). so yeah maybe this game is making me questioning what i think honor is and to what extent honor is worth someone's life. if it means tossing honor and tradition aside and instead saving a life, isn't that worth it? isn't that the most honorable thing you can do, putting your pride aside and saving a life? it kind of reminds me of red dead redemption 2, where arthur keeps questioning what morality means, what loyalty is. they're outlaws, they kill people but their motto is "we shoot people who need shooting, we feed people who need feeding." and "vengeance is an idiot's game". rdr2 is about a found family falling apart, realizing that maybe they don't fit together. about morality, loyalty, love, righteousness, forgiveness and the consequences of one's actions. gots is about a lot of these things too, so maybe that's why i'm so fascinated with these games.

i know i'm rambling and you probably don't care but.... i don't often get to ramble about this so please, bear with me. when i say rdr2 is about these topics, then i mean that arthur goes through a lot of bullshit. the game keeps telling us, even at the beginning, that arthur is a very mentally unstable person who has a lot of issues, his anger being one of them. we know that arthur acknowledges that because he talks to one of the girls in their gang, i think it was either mary beth or tilly, that (when you go around and kill people) he feels like he's going crazy. he's questioning why he keeps letting his rage take the better of him. lets just say this boy has some serious issues. (not saying he has almost zero self esteem but maybe i am saying that) the closer to the epilogue you come, the more you see arthur questioning himself, his life, his family. arthur is not a good man, he knows that, but he's not a bad one either. he's just trying to survive in the world that he was thrown into when he was barely a teenager. the only life he has known is being an outlaw but he realizes that he cannot continue this path, it's not possible anymore. his gang his being hunted from every side, the only way out is going north and he knows they're being expected to go there. dutch van der linde is basically his dad, together with hosea, and arthur is his obedient watch dog and errand boy. until he isn't. arthur does a major development throughout the game, from not doubting the man who raised him to openly standing against him even at the cost of his own life. arthur is.... it's hard to explain because there are so many little moments where he grows and questions himself, his worldview and who he should put his trust into. bluntly said, arthur gets sick at pretty much the start of the game, we just don't know it and neither does he. but when he knows, the little changes he has over the course of the game get bigger and more apparent. he's running out of time, he has been since a few months and it helps him realize what he wants. helping people, it makes him happy even if he doesn't want to admit that, so that's what he does. righting, or at least trying, his wrongs even if he knows that people won't forgive him. that maybe he doesn't deserve to be forgiven, it's still better knowing that he tried to make up for his past actions even if it's too late. arthur is.... he's doing the right thing by the end, well if you go with the good-arthur version if you go with the bad-arthur he is still kind of better than his past self. to summarize it a bit, dutch goes kinda crazy. micah (another gang member) spies for the agents hunting them at one point and manipulates dutch, making him even more greedy and angry and the man really lost his mind after hosea got killed. dutch has always been the one more questionable out of the two of them, but he had a codex he followed. he forsakes this codex even if he doesn't realize it. he keeps on killing and killing and killing, dragging innocent people into this and putting his own men in danger. arthur snaps, realizes that maybe dutch isn't the person he thought he was. i'm really dragging this out aren't i? arthur and john, his brother in all but blood, together with john's kinda-wife abigail, their son jack, sadie and a couple of other gang members flee at the end of the story. because they realize that this is not a life they want, that dutch has changed since they first met him and that he's not the man they used to know. and it's really hard to explain but arthur's ending hurts. it hurts so much but it's the exact moment the game built up to, his death.
