Second trimester ultrasound

Second trimester ultrasound scanning screens for proper fetal growth, and a host of congenital/developmental conditions, including neural tube defects (NTDs). Recall that NTDs can affect any part of the CNS, and spina bifida is a general term for NTDs that affect the spine, most commonly the lumbosacral spine.
