Could you expand on why you don't like fanon Deku? It also annoys me but I'm just curious what your personal reasons are!
yes i can expand! i have a LOT of issues with fanon deku. and just a warning this is going to get harsh so PLEASE respect my opinion and if you like fanon deku do yourself a favor and scroll past this instead of starting hate or hurting yourself. i respect your opinion and if you love fanon deku i would not go under your post and start hate, so don't do it to me. let's just respect each other around here. thank you
ok opinions under the cut!
the way i see izuku represented in fanon is as this guy who started off all stuttery and genuine and then becomes sassy and sarcastic and like even flirtatious?? i see all kinds of deku interpretations where he sleeps around and the "confident midoriya izuku" tag is used when izuku decides to just insult bkg back in a fic rather than standing up for himself in the way he usually does. or sassy izuku will just talk back to everyone and become like this completely different main character. i see it a lot in some bkdk fics where people strip izuku of his genuine-ness and sincerity and take out izuku's canon admiration of bkg and turn their relationship into arguing and bantering and izuku just whipping sarcasm at bkg every time he says something. and don't get me wrong, i LOVE bkdk banter! i love the idea of izuku talking back to bkg and them being able to have playful arguments and witty comebacks but some of the stuff I've seen is just not izuku anymore. and that's my biggest issue, fanon izuku isn't izuku.
izuku is canonically not that kind of sarcastic and sassy person. every once in a while he has retorts as most people do and that's just a normal thing. but for the most part he's such a genuine person. he's sweet and kind and just wants to be unapologetically himself and fanon interpretations of him just entirely change that. i personally hate the usage of "confident midoriya izuku" tags when it's literally just him being more sarcastic and talking back to everyone. like...first of all izuku is confident. canon izuku is confident and he is strong and he is assertive. just because he doesn't do it using sarcasm and snapping at everyone doesn't mean he isn't doing it. izuku's first appearance on the show is him standing up to katsuki in the way izuku does it - sincerity. he's honest and he's kind and that's the kind of confident izuku is, he knows if something is wrong and he will not back down until he is heard. and he gets people to listen with genuine words and getting to the point. just because he isn't being sassy about it doesn't mean he isn't confident or assertive.
not to mention how fanon izuku is entirely stripped of his kindness and his open admiration for the people he loves and his genuine personality. and he also just stops crying. which is stupid. just because someone cries a lot doesn't mean they arent strong or not confident?? izuku is izuku because of how he still freaks out a little every time he sees all might. the "kacchan's amazing" and the mumbling and writing in a notebook and the kindness he shows to all of his friends that isn't hidden behind sarcasm or shows of strength, these are what makes izuku. fanon tries to make izuku into some sarcastic fuckboy who's confident because he doesn't cry and he no longer openly admires his friends and he suddenly decides to be an asshole to people who are assholes to him instead of showing them understanding. it's taking away the core values of what makes izuku izuku and turning him into the badass dudebro main character people think he should be.
but izuku isn't a flirtatious guy, he gets a little flustered and blushy. people think izuku is gonna grow out of that and become some flirt, but in recent manga chapters he's grown past that and as his fluster grows off does he become a flirt? no! he just becomes even more genuine, showering uraraka in compliments rather than becoming a wordless mess. that's izuku's true character growth. people want izuku to become sarcastic and witty and talk back to bakugou as izuku becomes more confident, but does he? no, he doesn't. izuku's admiration for bakugou doesn't waver. they continue to train together and offer each other advice and izuku continues to be genuine with his praise and his feedback. even as izuku becomes more jaded and more upset with the world his sincerity and kindness and empathy stays with him. his respect for all might stays with him despite his mentor's flaws and mistakes because izuku is forgiving and understanding and empathetic. and there's nothing wrong with that.
there's nothing wrong with izuku being someone who cries when he's emotional and responds to bullies by trying to understand them while also standing up to them, and empathizing with villains and forgiving those who have wronged him. there's nothing wrong with canon izuku who isn't sarcastic or sassy, but instead genuine and kind and sincere and so open with his words of affirmation and so generous with his love. canon izuku is confident, he is strong and assertive and he stands up for himself and has never been a pushover. izuku will never become a sassy flirt who kills villains and punches bkg in the face and insults him for no reason because izuku is not like the people who have hurt him. izuku is stronger than them because he is kind and because he is loving and forgiving. i wish people would realize there is nothing wrong with izuku openly admiring and loving all might and kacchan and being kind to his friends and genuine to everyone and understanding towards villains. izuku is soft and izuku is sweet and izuku is good and izuku cries and smiles and loves. and izuku is strong and confident and stands up for himself and loves. izuku is so loving, it's what makes his core values and what makes izuku deku, what makes deku izuku, and i wish people just understood that. izuku is perfect the way he is in canon. he is strong and he is confident and that's because he's genuine and kind.
i love izuku so so much he's beautiful and loving and genuine and sweet and kind and he's soft and he cries and he's badass and he's strong and confident and he will beat your ass and go feral but he will also tend to your wounds and forgive you after the battle. unless it's overhaul or endeavor because obviously he draws the line at abusers.
but i digress. i love and adore izuku so much and he is amazing the way he is. his core values are his love and kindness and empathy and great capacity for forgiveness. don't take that away from him.
it sounds so cheesy but i swear it's true,
izuku is strong because he loves and he loves because he's strong.
