(you are roaming thru the woods late at night. you decide to lift up a rock)
(you hear a quick drum beat and small but triumphant horns heralding the appearance of...)
(me, as a korok, but i don’t even have a korok seed. instead i have incredibly disorganized thoughts about botw, specifically re: cold and heights and rito and kass. and i put them here in this post that i will edit when it is not midnight)
so the first environmental obstacles link absolutely has to face are height and cold. he is far from the hero of time that the world almost lost a hundred years ago. at that point stumbling around through the mountains and the snow is painful. the main quest pushes you east to kakariko and hateno, temperate areas where link is comfortable and safe, but he finds he has been presumed dead by most of the villagefolk. eventually when you make it to medoh you’re faced with the altitude and the cold again but you are more ready. and rito is so pleasant. idk there’s something about how it became one of the most hospitable places in the game to me that is very endearing. also kass. his role in actually killing ganon is very small—two hearts/half a stamina wheel isn’t very much, but since the game does last chance hearts instead of killing you fully, even one heart can be invaluable to surviving the fight. and with bullet time a third of a stamina wheel can be a Lot of arrows. and his quests are all forcing link to get creative, be resourceful, and (in the case of the blood moon one) relearn the rhythm of the world he once protected, so that he can be well prepared to do it again. kass doesn’t know the full story—no one alive does anymore, and he is just one of many doing what they can to keep hope alive, whether it’s thru traditions or craft or just stubbornly staying alive. the world is in shambles but botw is about picking up the pieces.
