Very quick Nintendo Direct thoughts before I start getting ready for work, I thought it was a pretty shitty direct. Like literally all the best things about it were remakes...
Mario vs Donkey Kong is thankfully not another "guide the minis to the end" game, it's a remake of the GBA game, which I never finished, and would like to. But I wish they would have done something more interesting with the art direction, it's like they've learned nothing from Super Mario Wonder, because this looks like almost every other 2D Mario thing from the last couple of decades.
Mario RPG's new mechanic is worrying, like it was already a very easy game.
Tomb Raider trilogy is neat, never played those games before but I wanted to check out the originas.
I am not very interested in the Princess Peach game. It's just lacking the charm I normally look for in a Mario game. I might play it, but I won't pick it up on release.
Mario expansion pass was very nice to DK fans, but Peachette is icky and gross. I was hoping we'd never have to see that character again after NSMBU Deluxe but now it looks like we're stuck with her.
F-Zero is back... as a temporary, online only, battle royal exclusive NSO users.... talk about your monkey's paw wish. I'm sorry but I am not excited for this...
Paper Mario 2 remake is cool, but im kinda over Paper Mario at this point. I feel like maybe this being a remake in an already remake heavy nintendo direct has just soured my mood and i'm failing to see how cool this is right now, but I'll say this, I don't think "if this does well they'll make more traditional Paper Mario" which I know is going to be the mindset of a lot of Paper Mario fans, but I really don't think Nintendo operates that way. We'll see what happens though.
In any case, more and more i'm sold on the idea that the Switch is on it's way out. With all these remakes and C list games, it just kinda feels like that's the case.
