“it’s-- it’s not my blood,” red said slowly, without even looking up at the person who had approached her. “i’m not injured. i was on guard duty and i saw a small horde and i thought i’d get rid of them.” she was fatigued and cold, but not hurt. the blood had not been her own.

she’d been hunkered down in the forest ever since she’d seen the huge walls surrounding this, so when the fires started she was left with no where else to go but to wander.. wander until someone found her, gave her the option to come join them, join them in the kingdom.. and she agreed.. knowing she would be better off somewhere like that.. especially with everything growing more dangerous on the outside, and he doubted that she’d make it on her own anymore, if the walkers didn’t get to her, dehydration would get her first.. the girl held onto the strap on her backpack as she stepped through the gates, her eyes instantly landed on a trough filled with rainwater.. and before she could even do anything else, she ran towards it, dropped down besides it to bring her hands down into and create a bowl so that she could drink it.. she didn’t care where it came from and who was looking, honestly she was just so thirsty that she needed it now..

His ears are RINGING. He doesn’t know why, he only knows the intensity of what he feels. Staff in hand, he reenters the Kingdom with a frown on his face. He had left-- for his own good. Could never bring himself to stay anywhere. He was a lot like some of his peers, in that way. He’s tired. His head aches, and had been for at least a couple hours now. He left to catch his breath, behind the King’s back. Behind Carol’s. In his mind, it’s better that way. Being alone. Knights and guards take notice of him, but don’t say a word. He keeps walking, with no intention of talking to anyone.

Bambi smiled ever so slightly as she sat curled up on the floor listening to the other talk, or complain.. she wasn’t really sure how she was supposed to take it. She enjoyed listening to people talk about their past, it sounded like a fairy tale in her mind.. And the fact that it was such a normal and mundane thing for most people, but for her.. She had never done anything remotely worth telling… Washing clothes in a river cause you had no electricity? Reading the bible cover to cover who knows how many times, just because others told you to? “That must have been wonderful though..? Can’t imagine it to have been that horrible…”

enid was mostly okay. despite her black eye and split lip, it wasn’t visible that she was hurt. she was sure she’d have a few bruises, but nothing worse than anything they’d all handled before. only for the man hitting her in the face did anyone have to know at all. still, enid found people asking her what happened more than once. “he tried to take my knife.” there were tears in her eyes, frustrated and afraid. “i tried to stop him and he started hitting me. carl-- carl stepped in and he... he killed the guy. that’s it, that’s all that happened.”

breathing in free air made michonne feel like smiling, something she hadn’t felt like in quite some time. they were always at war, always in some fight to survive. she was used to that. but being sick, it was too hard to accomplish. she was relieved now just to be outside again. funny how things could you remind you that you wanted to be alive. that was, until the smoke. then, michonne was running around. with so many out doing jobs and her partner still injured, michonne found herself taking over for alexandria’s leader’s jobs wherever the could, not wanting to put extra on others. “have we heard anything from our recruiters?”

“i’m just trying to do my job.” sherry had never been shy -- anything but, actually. but she knew better than to be stupid. the things her former husband had done to these people. the things her forced husband had tried to do to them. sherry tried, for the most part, to fly under the radar. “if you have something else i should be doing, i... i can.”

sherry was terrified. her dark eyes were fixed down and she took deep, shaking breaths as tears slipped down her cheeks. the woman was desperate. desperate to believe she would be safe. that they could actually keep her safe from negan. keep dwight safe. everything she’d done, she’d done for him. and now, here, she had the chance to run. the chance to be helped. but all she could do was fear that this wasn’t real. that negan would find a way to punish them if sherry decided to leave. a way to hurt dwight.

enid stared down at the calendar in her hand. the one she held was from years ago, but it let her figure out, if she tried hard enough, what day it was now. since she’d been so out of it for some time. and the reminder, it was a lot. this had been her mothers’ birthday. fortieth birthday, she thought. not that the woman had made it that far. instead, her daughter sat alone in the infirmary ( or at least, she felt alone ) with a healing hip, caused by a gunshot. she couldn’t help but feel if her parents saw her now, they wouldn’t be happy. that maybe they would hate what enid had become.

she hadn’t been sleeping in weeks. that was the only reason someone like her, normally paranoid from a life of living mostly on her own, would fall asleep in public, in a place like the kingdom. a place where she usually kept mostly to herself. only when someone bumped her did she jerk awake, looking around. “huh?”

green, bloodshot eyes squeezed closed. it was the first time enid had woken up since being shot and she could feel pain coursing through her whole body, seeming to start from her hip. who knew how long it would take before that pain stopped for her? the teenager lulled her head back, trying to be quiet. she hated being dependant. being injured was the ultimate dependance. she didn’t want anyone to feel the need to look after her though, as irrational as it might be. still, tears slid down her face.

big blue eyes were clearly terrified when the person in front of her, someone she barely knew, asked her the dreaded question. ‘how did your father die?’ the former first daughter, a recognisable face, had spent the apocalypse answering the same question. how she’d escaped the white house, how she’d watched her dad die. how the sweetheart daughter of the president of the united states had survived so long on her own. “i-i... h-he got bit. early on. he was in the white house. they thought he was safe but... everyone’s infected and...”

elyse had missed a lot. out on a scavenging mission for a long time and a lot had happened since. a lot of things she’d missed. and being back now, with a lot of big groups, negan in a prison and an amnesty for saviors, elyse had no idea what to do with herself anymore. taking a deep breath, she found herself looking around. “excuse me.” she asked a stranger, still holding her hands up and signing, a habit she had never shaken since losing her hearing. “can you tell me who i might find in charge?”

“i haven’t seen this many men in a long time,” it was a joke, but only kind of. it had been a long time since the redhead had seen a man at all. let alone this huge community full of them. she was kind of relieved though. at least now, it was less complicated than her only seeing memories of the dead men in her life or the saviors who took them from her.

“got cornered, had to jump into the lake.” his voice was barely a grunt, harsh. “don’t worry, still got my weapons on me.” he said the words jokingly, but they were clear: he was ready to fight if needs be.
