open for: @starteroaks
where: @ the giant board games, dealer's choice what game they're playing!
"I think I've got this in the bag," Atlas says with a little too much confidence for someone who doesn't have his next move figured out -- nothing new there. He leans down slightly, peering closely at the board as if trying to invoke some sort of clairvoyant vision for where they would move next so he could best it.

Who: Closed! Where: Starlight Oaks Town Square
Normally, Hadlee worked on Friday nights but with the night off she thought it'd be a waste to spend it cooped up inside with a book (even if she wanted to - her books were calling to her). And hey, she figured if she walked around enough, they might run into someone they knew.
They wandered around the festival, popping into the various booths and grabbing more than a few free samples. They stopped to look at the circle of craft workshops. Each booth looked interesting and she didn't know where to start. She glanced over to the person beside her. "What's drawing your eye?"

where: Starlight Oaks Winter Festival with: OPEN
Joe knew he needed to make an effort to socialise. It had only been six weeks since his divorce was finalised, and he was still emotionally numb from it, but he knew trying would be better than hiding away with his book and his renovation. He told himself to go for a couple of hours and see what happened. If he hated it, he could always go back to the cabin.
He was busy looking around, admiring the lights and the stalls available when he gently knocked arms with someone. "Oh, sorry. My bad." He said, turning to look at them.

YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO… STARLIGHT OAKS ANNUAL WINTER FESTIVAL!
Mayor Perry has personally invited you, as a citizen of Starlight Oaks, to attend the town’s annual Winter Festival! From Friday through to Sunday (26th January – 28th January), after 5pm, come join your neighbors in celebrating the season! This year is going to be the biggest festival yet, and we promise that you don’t want to miss out on the fun. This year’s festivities will include activities such as ice skating and mini golf. Come hungry, as the classic fair foods will all be available for purchase: cotton candy, elephant ears, pizza, kettle corn... but that's not all! A number of stalls operated by your local favorites will be popping up throughout the square that won't only satisfy the kids, but warm our adults from head to toe. Grab yourself a glass Cosmo's famous mulled wine while you're there! Or shimmer and shine with Gravi-tea's Winter Festival exclusive flavors! It won’t be the weekend to forget your wallet! And, don’t you fret! The holidays may be over, but colorful lights and brilliant art installations will decorate in formations that celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. Multiple streets along and around the town square will be blocked off, where there will be a small train that circles and brings you past the biggest light displays. If you’re looking for the rides, the ferris wheel will have just what you need! Take a few spins so you can take in the wonderful view that is the evergreen trees surrounding the area, and if you squint hard enough, you might just catch a glimpse of the glowing Starlight Pier in the distance. The ferris wheel will be the only ride available during this event. For our thrill seekers, keep an eye out for the spring fair! #StarOaksWinterFest
ACTIVITY IDEAS
ice skating, mini golf, giant board games (chess, checkers, connect four, etc), axe throwing, friendship bracelet making, silent disco, craft workshops + many more!
EVENT DETAILS
This event will begin on Friday, January 26th (from midnight PST) and end on Friday, February 2nd (at midnight PST).
All threads pertaining to the Winter Festival must begin during this period. No new starters should be posted after this time, however you may continue in the days following to wrap up these threads.

open starter to: all ! ( @starteroaks ) location: winter falls festival, gravi-tea booth.
after missing out on the first two days of the festival due to a tight work deadline, lennon made sure to keep the whole of sunday free. no calls, no emails, no phone. as much as it was a struggle for her, she knew that days of rest were equally as important as days on the grind. with a cotton candy in hand, she indulges happily in the sweet treat, walking contentedly around the market stalls, taking in the sights. finding herself returning to the gravi-tea booth, she decides to strike up some polite conversation. ❛ you know, if you're needing a recommendation, i'd for sure go with the iced apple, chai cinnamon. ❜ lennon held up her cup to the person next in line, showing them that it was nearly empty. ❛ i'm actually queuing for my second, it's that good. ❜

CELEBRATE THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON AT THE LUNAR LANES STREET PARTY!
Kick off your lunar new year celebrations at Starlight Oaks' annual Lunar Lanes Street Party! Each year the Lunar New Year celebrations in Starlight Oaks only get bigger! The Lunar Lanes is a return favorite, and from 4pm to midnight, this weekend (10th February & 11th February), the bustling laneways outside Chin Chin and Seoul Kitchen will buzz with live entertainment, roving performers, food trucks, market stalls, DJs playing the latest in C-Pop, J-Pop and K-Pop, and plenty of Insta-worthy moments from art and light activations to dazzle the crowds during this two-night event. The best part? The Lunar Lanes organizers have also teamed up with your favorite Asian restaurants to bring you cuisine from China, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysian and Japan! The owners of Chin Chin, Gravi-Tea and Seoul Kitchen, as well as members of your local Asian community are excited to share their culture with the people of Starlight Oaks! Be sure to visit the Chinese Garden of Friendship that has been set-up at the very end of the street, for tea ceremonies and fortune readings, and look out for the seventy-foot long traditional Chinese Dragon weaving its way through the streets, to thunderous drumming! Or, go in search of the 100 Good Wishes Quilt displays that'll be located in six locations throughout the downtown area. These beautiful quilts have been based off drawings from children living in Starlight Oaks that symbolize good luck, honor and success for the new year. Or, if lanterns are more your thing, head to the activation outside Gravi-Tea to see stunning lanterns light up the night. End your Lunar New Year celebrations with a brilliant firework display on Sunday night at 9pm, lighting up the sky with brilliant steaks of red and gold; you may even spot a dragon amongst the stars! closed for: @sunbcthe
where: near the beachside burrito booth
Twice already Atlas has had to make himself walk by the booth Aspen was working, with a reminder that he shouldn't be a distraction while she was working.
( Even if he did think volunteering should come with more breaks to entertain him. )
When he saw a different volunteer take over, he seized the opportunity, waving his hand near where she stood to get her attention to relay the curious sighting he's had.
"Finally, you done slinging pico de gallo?" He doesn't give her a chance to tell him otherwise, adding quickly what he actually wanted to draw focus to.
Tumblr media
"Saw someone wandering around, bit too tall, bit too brazen for a dude who did all that. Did you see him?"
He's certain if she has she would know who he's alluding to, but he would let her lead them both to Archie as an answer before he drops it in her lap.

Who: @sebsandoval Where: Winter Fest food stalls
Hadlee had been checking out the festival for a few hours. They'd played some games, made some crafts, chatted with both old and new friends, tried a multitude of samples, and was ready for some food. Many of the local businesses had set up booths at the festival, showing off their best items in hopes of gaining new customers. Despite all the fantastic smells swirling around her, there was only one thing she wanted: chicken from one of her favorite neighbors.
The line for Stella's Hot Chicken was, unsurprisingly, long, but the crew manning the booth were quickly getting through their hungry patrons. When it was her turn, she ordered a sandwich and stepped to the side to wait for their food. "Hey, Sebastian!" They grinned when he handed over their food. "Business is bumping tonight!"

where: Starlight Oaks Winter Festival with: Zoe Wilson ( @wilsonzoe )
When Joe had arrived in Starlight Oaks, he'd had a lot to focus on in getting his cabin fit for human habitation, but even then, he had to find very particular third spaces, outside of home and work. One of those spaces was the local library, which was where he met Zoe.
"Zoe!" Joe called out, seeing her suddenly in the crowd. "Hey." He raised his hand in greeting.

where: Starlight Oaks Winter Festival with: Solvi Mellum ( @solvicsa )
Joe had always been partial to a good drink, but since his divorce, he found himself drinking more than he previously had. It had been the same way the first divorce... eventually, he'd get over it, settle down and be a functioning adult. For now, he was working really hard to block out the feelings that threatened to crash over him in a dark, consuming wave that would leave him fighting for breath.
Alcohol was really good at doing that. And it was always more socially acceptable when you had someone to drink with.
"Mulled gin? That sounds lethal." Joe chuckled, glancing to his side to see Solvi's expression. "What do you think?"

where: Starlight Oaks Winter Festival with: Daisy Nowak ( @daisynowak )
Gravi-tea was one of Joe's most frequented destinations in the last six weeks Joe had been in Starlight Oaks. He was a simple man when it came to his order - black coffee with creamer and brown sugar, or maybe one of their herbal tea if he didn't want the caffeine. It made sense that coffee would be his first stop, to give him a little pep.
"Hey, fancy seeing you here." Joe recognised the barista, although he always forgot to learn her name.
