RAPID FIRE.
Faceclaim: Barry Keoghan.
Name: Atlas Nolas.
Pronouns & Gender: He/Him, Cis Man.
Birthday: 05/30/1995.
Occupation: Attendant @ Starship Arcade.
Neighborhood: Celestial Drive
How long have they been in Starlight Oaks? 9 years.
Three positive traits: Free-spirited, loyal, spontaneous.
Three negative traits: Aimless, distractible, envious.
tw drugs, child neglect
OVERVIEW.
-- First born child to a mother who probably should never have been a mother, something Nina Nolan would admit herself if she could ever be tied down long enough for an honest conversation on that.
-- Atlas had to practically raise himself and his sister from a young age. Though their mother was technically present, she had spells of going missing for days on and leaving them alone in various motel rooms in Orlando that they called him until having to move on to the next one.
-- Despite the nurturing skills she lacked, his mother was the type who loved a party and was always one of the last ones left shutting the bar down, something that's rubbed off on Atlas.
-- It was an expectation that both he and his sister had to pitch in whenever they could to keep a roof over their heads (and their mother's bad habits funded) which is how Atlas started to shoplift at a young age. Small things at first because he was scared of getting caught, but he gradually grew bolder and bolder about the things he would lift.
-- He has numerous arrests and past charges as a minor and as an adult for theft.
-- Education was never made much of a priority, and it was rare for him to actually attend a full month of school consecutively. Due to this, Atlas never finished high school. After ending up in the system as a pre-teen once child services intervened after another of Nina's vanishing acts, the constant moves heightened the disinterest he had already had about learning as a kid and by sixteen he had dropped out altogether.
-- He made a pact with his sister before they were separated and placed in different homes that when they both turned eighteen they would meet up in Washington and reunite.
-- He first first landed in a trailer park outside of town when he arrived to Starlight Oaks, staying in a trailer there before eventually being able to move into a house on Celestial Drive that's needed the same set of repairs since he first moved in seven years ago (they're still to be done).
-- He's worked various jobs to keep himself afloat, a lot of which have ended up in him being fired for poor attendance or bad behaviour.
-- Loves to throw loud and raucous house parties at his, which has gotten him into trouble with some of his neighbors over the years.
-- Currently, he's passing his time as an attendant at the Arcade. It's his longest steady employment to date (8 months as of Jan. 2024)
SORTA FUN FACTS.
His desire to move to Washington was due to a postcard he received as a child from his 'dad'. It depicted Washington on the front and on the back it just said 'I'm proud of you son - Dad'. He received it when he was six after it was slipped under the door of the motel he was staying in in Orlando. He has no idea currently that the postcard wasn't from his father but rather the motel's caretaker, Jack, who felt bad for how often the young boy would talk about the dad he had never met.
For the longest time he thought At Last by Etta James was actually a song called Atlas. To this day, if it plays on the radio he still sings Atlas instead.
His karaoke song of choice is Gloria by Laura Branigan. It's his mom's favorite song and one of the few he knows all the words to.
Has various tattoos on his body, half of which are from when he was drunk and let someone draw on him at one of his house parties before getting it yatted permanently.
Is wary of wealthy people.
He's never been on an airplane in his life.
Has never been to Disney World despite spending the first 11 years of his life in close proximity to it.

STATS:
full name : major alexander powell nickname(s) : n / a birthplace : tacoma, washington neighborhood : celestial drive date of birth : 12 / 21 / 1996 parentage : jennifer powell & jonathan powell sibling(s) : n / a relationship status : single gender identity : cis man ( he/him ) sexual orientation : heterosexual occupation : swim instructor faceclaim : michael evans behling positive : altruistic, fearless, loyal negative : vacuous, flighty, aimless
BACKGROUND:
just a few days before christmas, jonathan and jennifer powell got the call that their baby boy was born. the product of a couple of seniors who were not ready to commit their lives to raising a child, the powells had finally gotten the child they've wanted for so long.
named after jonathan's ranking during his time in the military, major alexander powell was a gift to the couple. they would've been happy with any child, but they were especially thrilled to have a baby boy to bring into their home in starlight oaks.
initially, the powells had wanted a large family. however, nothing could've prepared them for the reality of raising a baby. it wasn't enough to squander their excitement to be parents, but it left them with an appreciation for a one child household.
being the only child was everything major could have wanted and more. his mom was free to take him to the library and his dad would take him to the park. they had dinner together every night, and always tried to do something as a family over the weekends, whether it was going to see a movie, going to a sports game, or even visiting the local bowling alley.
jonathan powell was an athletic man. he was a football player back in high school, but liked to get out and be active whenever he could. major was signed up for soccer and tee ball the second he was old enough, and his dad began taking him golfing every sunday after he turned ten. jennifer ensured major took swim classes as a baby, just hoping to give him the skill due to their proximity to the water.
while his parents never pressured him to pick a certain sport, major definitely felt a pressure to be in sports. he'd gravitated towards tee ball as a kid, so he stuck with baseball.
it started off with little league, and he continued with recreation leagues until he was able to try out for his high school team. with his years of experience with the game paired with his outings to the batting cages, it came as no surprise that he made the team freshman year.
what did come as a bit of a surprise, though, was his love for the water. since baseball wasn't until the spring, he joined the swim team in the fall. he'd always loved swimming for fun, and what was more fun than a little bit of a competition? at least, that's how his father saw it.
he was a beast in everything that he did. except academia. he managed enough to stay on his teams, but he couldn't do much better beyond that. he was his parent's golden boy, and his father wanted an athlete. didn't it make sense to prioritize that?
while academia didn't come easy to him, socializing definitely did. he had his father's charm and his mother's heart, which, looking at him, was a winning combination. major had no problem interacting with his peers, whether they knew each other or not. 'IT'S BEST TO MAKE PEOPLE FEEL COMFORTABLE,' his mother had told him. so, that's what he did.
it didn't take much for major to grow in the ranks of popularity. with older teammates taking him under their wing as their "cool younger brother" and tackling his own grade, he'd made quite a name for himself right off the bat.
his junior year had set it up for him. he'd be voted in as vice president of his class, and he'd began dating his first long-term girlfriend. in so many words, the two of them were the king and queen of high school. well-known, well-liked-- he felt they conquered the hallways. they were voted prom king and queen their senior year.
high school relationships are hard, because what do you do when it's all over? it was an amicable breakup. she was going off to college, and he'd made tacoma's minor league baseball team.
the idea of being a professional baseball player, even if it was in the minor league, was exciting. he felt so alive at every practice, every game. he couldn't believe he had people who admired him in such a way.
however, it became less and less exciting. no matter how hard he tried, he could never jump out of the minor league and into the major league. his mother would always be proud of him, but what could his father be thinking? he'd never expressed any disappointment, but if it was killing major, what would the man who provided everything to make him the best be feeling?
he's twenty-four when he begins to think he doesn't want to do this anymore. but how does one leave the professional world of sports so early? only being in the minor league, it's not like he was rolling in money. he'd barely graduated high school, and skipped college to join the team.
he's twenty-six when he finally decides to call it quits. he can't even hear his own name without a sour taste in his mouth. major powell could never make the major league. WHAT A JOKE.
so, he goes back to his other sport of choice. swimming. he'd never lost interest, and would always find his way to the water when he needed to breathe. he'd always had a home at the starlight oaks community center, so it only makes sense for him to find his next adventure there. he mostly teaches kids to swim, but being told he's the best teacher ever comforts him more than any amount of fans in the stands.
PERSONALITY:
very kind, outgoing, will talk to a stranger about anything.
gentleman at heart. very well-mannered
his time in the league is a bit of a touchy subject for him. his vibe will definitely change if mentioned

SNAPSHOT
• A product of who and where he's come from. With the face of the man who left, the work ethic and passion for music of the man who raised him, and the resilience and compassion of the woman who built his very foundation, Seonho is a survivor. He grew up poor, sometimes destitute and homeless and at best living paycheck to paycheck, and the foot of struggle and responsibility was against his neck at a young age.
• tw: brief mentions of death and illness The oldest of six with two full-blooded siblings and three half-siblings though to him there's no real distinction. The de facto head of his household since his mother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's when he was seventeen the literal head of his household since he was eighteen and his mother was sent to hospice. Emanates big brother energy.
• A happy-go-lucky guy despite his circumstances. Lover of warm hugs with honey eyes that are always crinkling under the weight of a smile. Compassionate and empathetic, sometimes to a fault. Always puts himself last. Would give someone the shirt off his back if asked.
• When he's not working, he's socializing. Rarely sleeps and works himself to the point of mental burnout. Lives off adrenaline, energy bars, red bull, and nicotine. Not very good at self-care.
• Is a little too used to the grind and as a result, his life has become a bit stagnant. He lives day to day rather than for the future. Gave up on his musician dreams of pursuing after his (step)dad passed when he was fifteen. Still writes from time to time when he's inspired. Can play pretty much any instrument, and has a soft spot for jazz (and the saxophone) since it was the genre that he was first introduced to.
FULL BIOGRAPHY
tw: mentions of homelessness, illness, abandonment and death (caused by brain aneurysm)
Seonho was born in Starlight Oaks as the eldest child to Seongmin Ryu and Mina Park who moved from Korea when Mina was pregnant with Seonho after she was disowned by her parents who disapproved of Seongmin. His biological father walked out on Seonho, his mother, and two of his younger sisters when he was five years old and Seonho has always believed that they were better off without him.
After being homeless and hopping through halfway houses after the abandonment, his mother remarried three years later and had three more children with Seonho’s stepfather, Jalen Jones, who would become the only father that Seonho acknowledged in his life. Jalen adopted the three eldest children upon his marriage to Mina and they all took on his last name.
Early on in his childhood, Seonho fell in love with music thanks to Jalen’s side-gig playing the saxophone in a jazz band. He had a talented ear for music, picking up musical instruments and mastering them with an ease, and his parents encouraged his passion as best they could, ensuring that they budgeted well enough to afford sending Seonho to his music lessons.
While performing at Pike Place Market in Seattle, he was scouted by a Korean entertainment agency at the age of thirteen. However, he was still a trainee when he flew back home and prematurely ended his contract due to his stepfather dying suddenly of a ruptured brain aneurysm as a result of overworking when Seonho was fifteen. When he returned home, Seonho ran away for a short period of time, thinking that the last thing his mother needed was another mouth to feed and not knowing how to properly cope. He lived on the streets and worked part time at a gas station where he was paid under the table with food and cigarettes, developing a nicotine addiction that he has yet to quit entirely though he now uses a vape pen.
Eventually, he returned home and as the oldest child, he assumed a great deal of responsibility in the household. While he wanted to drop out of school, his mother insisted that he stay enrolled and graduate. Seonho earned money any way that he could to help keep the household afloat, mowing lawns during the summer and working manual labor in the evenings. Sometimes, he would resort to not-so-legal methods if need be. His music became all the more dear to him, filling the gaping holes in his chest that were created from his dream continually slipping through his fingers. Listening to music became a way to escape, no matter how momentarily. He could never catch a break after that.
A year before Seonho graduated from high school, his mother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. After it came to the point that his mother could no longer properly take care of them or herself, she was admitted into a longterm care facility by order of the municipality.
At that point, Seonho was eighteen and filed for guardianship of his siblings who had been sent to foster care, which he would eventually be granted after a months' long battle with the courts. He also became the conservator of his mother’s well-being. Seonho insists that he provide for his family and ensure that each of his siblings focus on their studies, graduate from school, and are afforded opportunities that he did not have. Even if that means he has to work a slew of jobs in order to make ends meet. Even if that means he has to continually make personal sacrifices and stretch himself too thin.
CONNECTIONS
Non-playable characters of note: Mina Park-Jones (mother, in a hospice), Jalen Jones (step/adoptive father, deceased), Seongmin Ryu (biological father, absent), Sam (younger gender non-conforming sibling, age 17), Hana (younger sister, age 14), and Melody (younger sister, age 13)
Others to be announced!
WANTED CONNECTIONS
Two younger sisters with the same set of biological parents that are between the ages of twenty one and twenty five, will be posting a wanted connection later
Co-workers from any of his many jobs
People who he frequently picks up via Uber
People he annoys as he can be a Lot, very talkative and often overly friendly
Friends! A best friend, a ride-or-die, acquaintances, people he grew up with, people he is a positive influence on, etc.
Perhaps an ex or two at most, could have ended on good or bad terms.
Hookups. Seonho is more of a commitment guy as a terrible romantic, but he is indulgent from time to time as he is also a very busy man and most likely these would be one night stand situations unless he is close enough to someone to have a friend-with-benefits situation (singular) to address those needs.
Open to plotting! I am up for nearly everything.

The Deets
Name: Hadlee Van der Zee Birthday: February 29, 1996 Birthplace: Amsterdam Neighborhood: Starlight Cove Gender: Nonbinary Pronouns: She/they Sexuality: Still figuring it out Occupation: Library technician at Light Year Library
The Background
Hadlee was born in Amsterdam but moved to Starlight Oaks with her mom when she was less than a year old and her mom got a teaching job at the university. She's never met her biological father but has a sneaking suspicion their mom never lost contact with him. Their mom remarried when they were 16 and they now have an annoyance of an 11 year old brother.
They weren't unpopular in school and they managed to have lots of friends growing up; they even still speak to some of them. Most of their friends come from their post-secondary days or from work.
Her first love was the ocean. To this day it's one of her favorite places to go because, well, you can't be mad staring at the water. Her second love was the stars. They love staring up at space on a clear night, the ocean lapping at their toes.
After high school, the plan was to go to university and major in marine biology with a minor in astronomy, but that ultimately didn't happen. Their mom, as an academic, pushed them to work hard and get high grades which just wasn't happening. Combined with the cost and their desire to be independent, she dropped out after the first year. After a couple years of not knowing what to do and working odd jobs, she went to college to be a library technician.
Now, they're renting an apartment in Starlight Cove with plans to buy a house in the next year or so. She's happy at the library, but thinking about going back to school for information studies. They're happy on their own, but ready for anything to happen.
The Vibes
They've been learning to surf for the last couple years. They've gotten better, but could definitely use a coach.
They love a more feminine aesthetic with pastels and natural tones.
Look no further for a green thumb! Her apartment is covered in all kinds of plants.
She reads a lot and always has at least 2 books nearby.
She dresses like it's summer, regardless of the weather.

Face Claim: Daveed Diggs
Name: Monroe Coleman
Pronouns & Gender: He/Him, cismale
Birthday: August 24th, 1976 (37 years old)
Occupation: Owner of White Rabbit Bookstore & Cafe
Neighborhood: Starlight Cove
How long have they been in Starlight Oaks? 19 years
Three positive traits: gentle, charming, optimistic
Three negative traits: stubborn, forgetful, impulsive
BIO under read more.
Triggers: (death tw, suicide tw, child abandonment tw, depression tw)
Monroe was born and raised in Los Angeles, California with roots back to Alabama where his family was from. Growing up, he was raised by his mother, his father left the family when Monroe was just a baby. He and his mother made it work, though it was tough at times. His mother worked several jobs in order to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads and while he didn’t realize it, she had been fighting invisible demons in her head. He used books in order to get away from the world he lived in. They allowed him to travel and see lands he never thought he would see and it got him through his childhood.
When he was 18, he came home one day and found his mother deceased in her room from suicide. It broke him and part of what broke him so badly was that he had no idea that she had even been struggling like that and he had felt helpless in that he wasn’t able to save her. It made him have a very dark view of life and the world he lived in. The only thing that really got him through his feelings were books and he let himself get immersed in them. They worked for a while but he knew he had to get out of LA if he ever wanted to get past his mother’s death.
Leaving LA led him to Starlight Oaks, where he has lived since. He opened up a bookshop & cafe there and has found that he really enjoys the change of scenery. He got himself a bungalow in Starlight Cove right on the water and he still lives in it to this day. While it took some time, he eventually came to terms with the passing of his mother which in turn helped him come to terms with his own mental health journey. Moving turned out to be the best thing he could have done for himself.
While he loves running his business, he also dreams of one day publishing a book, one that would hopefully resonate with people, maybe change a life or even save one. He has been trying to write the book since he was 20, but he hasn't really gotten far with it and has kept his dream a secret. Monroe is the type of person who believes that everyone has good in them, even if he has seen some terrible things and he will try to a fault to find that good. One day he hopes to have a family of his own and hopes that he would be a good father and that he is a kinder, gentler, better man and father then the one that walked out of his life before it ever started.

Daisy was born an only sibling. When she was 6 her mom ended up leaving so it was just her and her dad. She doesn't really remember her birth mom much.
When Daisy was 10, her dad met her step mom Ella who instantly treated her like her own filling that gap her own mother had left her. It wasn't long after when Ella had fallen pregnant finally giving Daisy a sibling who she adored. The four of them had a happy life together - one that Daisy was extremely greatful for knowing that other people weren't always as lucky.
During her last year of high school, Daisy met her ex-boyfriend. He was her first love and she had fallen fast and hard. Their relationship had been far from perfect but with it being her first one, she didn't know any better. Things ended badly between the two of them, leaving a lot of hostility and Daisy with a broken heart.
Growing up all Daisy had always had such a love for music. Her dad had signed her up for piano and guitar lessons at her request. She's a naturally talented singer - barely even having to try and yet has a beautiful singing voice. Her ultimate goal in life is to break into the music industry but for now she's happy playing local shows and working as a barista. It pays the rent and lets her lead a realitvly comfy life so she couldn't complain.
Once she had grown more confident with herself, she'd decided to move out of her parents place and settle in Starlight Oaks. She's only lived there for a few months but she knows this is the place she belongs right now.

THE FULL STORY.
Born and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand - by the time Sasika was sixteen, she knew exactly what her life was going to look like. Being an only child, Sasika was the example. Her father, a law professor and her mother, a psychiatric nurse, it was always so casual how they pressured their only daughter to succeed. First, it was academics, then it was extracurricular activities. All of which would help get Sasika into a good university, her parents alma mater and where they met. In her youth, Sasika did ballet, competitive swimming, violin and chess. She was moulded to be the shining star of the Matthews family and it wasn’t until high school that realised that there was more to life than what her parents had set out for her.
Not even the private school her parents paid for could shield Sasika from the bad influences that awaited her. Outside of the pressure of her family, she could finally breathe and be herself, whoever that was. She held a passion for art, an avenue her parents had decided was a waste and perhaps that’s what drew her to it. During this time, she began pulling the leash. Experimenting with friends and staying out late, resenting her parents for making her feel sheltered until now. As she graduated high school, she had no idea what she wanted to do in her future. The overwhelming feeling of life unfolding before her and she had no plan at all, despite all the paths laid down before.
There was little doubt that she would go to university, however, what wasn’t clear was what she would do there. Her mother encouraged medicine to follow in her footsteps and her father favoured something more academic than scientific. But nothing called to Sasika other than being in the spotlight. Eventually, she settled on a business degree as job security seemed like something important to think about. And it was here that she met the man who would become her future husband. They’d met at a university party and Sasika was completely smitten from the moment they met. A whirlwind romance that swept her off her feet. And when he proposed to her after only a year of dating, she found herself saying yes despite the seed of doubt inside her mind. But was she ready to settle down and be someone’s wife at 21? He was ready to settle down and build a life but she had barely lived at all. Suddenly, there was some voice inside her that told her to run, the feeling of being trapped overcoming her. Her parents never said she was too young or to go experience life, they were just happy to see their daughter settled, taken care of, stable after their rough years in her teenagedom. But there was an itch that needed to be scratched.
After a disastrous fight in their first year of marriage, Sasika decided to leave - never looking back. While some people might drive back to their parents house after ending a marriage, Sasika headed to the airport instead with her bags in tow. She booked the first flight out and decided she needed to see the world, live a life where there were no expectations. With little money to her name, she backpacked throughout Australia, Asia and most of Europe. Eventually, she travelled through America and decided that she’d stay but never in one place for too long.
Getting by on odd jobs and couch surfing meant that she was able to keep travelling for most of her twenties, avoiding the issues that plagued her from town to town. With an expiring work visa, Sasika decided maybe it was time to put down some roots if she was actually planning to stay here. Time seemed to fly by when she settled into Starlight Oaks, she’d barely thought about leaving. Not just yet anyway.

(LIZETH SELENE / NONBINARY / SHE/THEY) hey, was that XIMENA RODRIGUEZ rushing past us? that’s weird, i normally see them around STARLIGHT COVE. maybe they’re headed to CLASS (OR BAND PRACTICE). they are a STUDENT, after all. who knows, i guess that’s 24 year olds for you.
pinterest. visage. musings. interactions.
stats:
full name: ximena luz rodriguez
birthday: july 14, 1999 ( @ 4:32 am )
hometown: starlight cove
hobbies: drumming, wandering around town, stick n poke tattoos
traits: (+ curious, creative, optimistic), (- disorganized, flighty, impulsive)
big 3: cancer 🌞, cancer ⬆️, leo 🌙
background:
raised by their grandmother, ximena’s childhood was a whirlwind much like themselves. with a flighty mother and an absent father, ximena’s grandmother poured extra time and care into them, to try and offset the clearly growing complex within herself. although they were lower income, her grandmother always found a way to give ximena the things she needed, and those she wanted when she was able. this nurturing from their abuela instilled those same traits in ximena, leading her to be the self proclaimed care giver in her friend groups.
school was never their favorite, but being around friends was, and she knew that if she was doing poorly in school, they may as well not go home to their abuela. acts of service are their main love language, baking cupcakes for friends birthdays before school, taking care of all of the needs around the house, running errands, or helping with homework. if anyone needed anything, they would be the person to go to.
after high school, ximena had a tough transition. change is never easy, but for them it felt impossible. leaving their home and support system was daunting, and she only lasted a semester in seattle before she was packing her clunker of a car and heading back home to starlight oaks. while she is aware that her personality and talents are bigger than the box she’s putting herself in, the change is simply something she hasn’t been able to overcome. if it were up to her she’d stay in her small town forever, and take care of the people around her, filling everyone’s cup before their own. unfortunately for them, their dreams are too big for the box, and they know ( and are grappling ) with what the future will hold for them.
will they stay in starlight oaks ? will they leave their small town and chase those big dreams ? we will all find out together

youngest of two children, solvi and her brother theo, were often neglected by their parents -- owners of a couple of hotels across the country, they spent most of the time alongside maids or their aunt.
a talented dancer and overall intelligent kid, most imagined sol would have a bright future -- unlike her brother, a known troublemaker and addict.
supportive, she'd often take care of him through their years in college. they were best friends and confidants, so it was no surprise sol's world fell to pieces when she found him dead in his apartment.
her parents coped as they could -- leaving the city for a bigger one where no one would've heard of theo's tragic fate. yet solvi chose to stay -- all too attached to starlight oaks and those she knew.
ditching college, the mellum would dive into dancing for relieve. ballet seemed no longer to fit her taste, leaving space for pole dancing -- something she fell in love with.
a known exotic dancer in town, she'd also take a work as a bartender to help with bills. it wasn't the easiest life, yet she enjoyed every second of it -- perhaps in honor of theo.

It was a brilliantly sunny day when Aaron was born, which was not normal for February in New York City. Maybe it was a sign of things to come. The Lower East Side was his playground, and Aaron grew up living a happy life. His parents had been high school sweethearts growing up in Philadelphia, and they instilled in him, at a very young age, that love was indeed all you needed. Though they didn’t live in excess, his mother was a middle school choir teacher, and his father was a high school librarian; they had all that they needed. When he was five, they gave Aaron a baby sister, Talia, his best friend in the world.
It was many years of bliss—years filled with dirt-cheap movies, Hanukkah celebrations, record stores, and homemade matzoh ball soup. Years of discovering Shakespeare and pop music and discovering that maybe Aaron liked boys as much as he liked girls. Years of music, laughter, and joy filled the Levy household. Aaron wanted for nothing back then. He thinks back on this time in his life with bittersweet fondness, knowing he was lucky to grow up in a place that felt so warm.
When he was 18, he moved a few blocks north and attended NYU for his BFA in Theatre. He had found theatre in high school without much pushback from his parents. Yes, of course, it was a risky career path. But he had a spark, this big burning flare of talent and passion, and his parents didn’t want to snuff it out. Aaron had to work two jobs, alternating between working at a cinema and a bar, to afford anything, but he was happy, and that was enough.
It wasn’t until his senior year of college when his father got sick. Cancer caught him quickly and gave him little time. Aaron was devastated, trying to be home as much as he could. It was setting up for his Senior Showcase, but he didn’t have it in him to push through the pain and try as hard as he might have under better circumstances. He needed to be there for his mother and Talia. He spent much of the time that he was supposed to be in rehearsals, visiting his father in the hospital. It all went so fast, and suddenly, the wonderful Levys were now a family of three.
He managed to graduate, thankfully. Aaron was despondent, but he had maintained his grades and relatively good standing with the university, so he got out on time. He didn’t do particularly well in his Showcase, however, so he was not matched with an agent and manager like most of his classmates. It took him three years of hustling and grinding to make his way up on his own. Skimping on meals and working until he was numb and delirious. But it was also distracting, and carrying the grief he still held; he was grateful for any distractions.
And then, one fine day, right after his 25th birthday, Aaron was unbelievably lucky. Or at least, that’s what he says. He was in the elevator with the right casting agent, just making small talk, and landed an audition for Shakespeare in the Park’s summer production of A Winter’s Tale. He landed the part of Florizel, and from there, the parts just kept on coming. Over the next few years, he became a bona fide Broadway mainstay, hopping between contemporary and classical works effortlessly. He even had a brief stint as Fiyero in Wicked, which… scarred him for life. He would never do a musical again. He had bit roles in long-running New York City TV shows, like Law & Order SVU, and he felt calm. Like the hard work paid off, and he was making his dad proud.
It was early into these years that he met Travis Walker, a Broadway investor. Travis was older, not by a huge amount, but by enough. Over the years, Aaron had his fair share of flings; men and women were constant but fleeting, and he didn’t place too much stock into forming long-lasting relationships. He was married to his work, and though he was taught that love was so important, he found love in other things: his friends, and his plays and his drive to create art that mattered. But he met Travis on the opening night of one of his plays, and things moved quickly.
He fell, and he fell hard. Aaron was besotted. This was what he had been waiting for, at least he thought. It was perfect: every time he looked at Travis, he could swear he heard choirs singing like angels were in his ears. This was the love his parents had gone on and on about… it had to be. He felt infatuated and believed that he was adored in return. Travis would buy him trinkets and take him on lavish dates and make space for him in his penthouse on Fifth Avenue… this was the dream.
But soon, that dream was five years long. And Aaron was at the peak of his career, having just given a star turn as Hamlet. He thought he felt the proposal coming on… it had been years, and he had been so patient and attentive, even when Travis had his moods. Even when Travis started to travel much more. Even when things felt lonely. He was supposed to be at the theatre one night for a post-show celebration, but he decided to head out early for the evening, wanting to spend the evening with his partner. When he got home, he discovered a waking nightmare: Travis and a chorus boy. He methodically packed up, absolutely crushed by Travis’ cold and cruel nonchalance at what had transpired. He didn’t even care that it was ending… and then it was done.
Aaron needed to leave the city… he needed to get out. He moved most of his things, which weren’t too much, into a storage unit, grabbed a large backpack, and left. Took a flight to Europe and backpacked. Spent some time roaming around Asia. Came back to the States and got off and on Greyhound buses until he was fully wiped. It was almost two years of this. He needed to shake it out of his system and get the grief and the loss out of him. It was then, at age 32, that he decided he would go back and get his Masters.
Getting into Brown’s program was easy. He was a celebrated actor and though the shock of him being in class with his cohort was a bit much, at first, he settled in nicely. He fell in love with Rhode Island, and 3 years on the coast did him well. He learned so much about himself and what he wanted to do, and what he needed in his life, and he wouldn’t have traded that time for the whole world. When he got out, he was still disillusioned with New York, so he looked for jobs elsewhere.
That’s how he landed on Starlight Oaks. He’d had a friend in his cohort who had spent some time in the area, and when he saw an open job at the University, his friend recommended it. It was another coastal city, welcoming and waiting for him. He couldn’t wait to see what was in store.

"You're father is always there when it counts. He'll be at your wedding, he was at your birth but hopefully he'll never be at your funeral. But he'd show up!"
For a girl who wanted for nothing, she sure did want her father. A Nigerian diplomat who never stayed around for too long, Alisa Vinogradova assured her daughter that it wasn't that big of a deal. It was from a young age that Adaeze, called Ada by family, realized that things would go into two boxes: a big fucking deal or nothing to bat an eyelash at. At least, in her family. Alisa assured her that anything she wanted as a child she could get -- their cup runneth over literally being the daughter of a marriage between the heiress of a global wine fortune and a tech mogul. Her mother was one of their many children with too easy going of a personality to do anything more ambitious than eat, pray & love. There was always a trip afoot in the Vinogradova household making an otherwise sheltered Ada extremely aware of the world around her. It may have been through a lense that was majorly lavish but it meant that her perspective was a little broader compared to her preppy classmates.
Plus, when Ada started school -- her name was obviously different. It was a name both of her parents had agreed on and decided, it was easy enough for others to pronounce yet they still liked to butcher it. By middle school, various nicknames popped up and though Ada was an extremely popular one -- A.D. is what she preferred if the person wasn't going to call her Adaeze. While she loved her name, A.D. had always been very blunt and easily annoyed with people's ignorances. At fancy dinners & galas, she wouldn't be the most sociable if she wasn't feeling it and in school she picked and chose how and when she would participate. English, history, ANY art classes? They loved her. Math and science? They were annoyed she didn't apply herself. But what could Adaeze do? At the end of the day, she was her mother's daughter more than she ever was her fathers.
Where Ada did soften though was Starlight Oaks. Her grandparents would spend substantial time on their property on the cove and while her mother was untethered to her childhood home often going on trips and staying months in various countries, Ada had a room decorated at their house and went to a Private primary school until she was accepted into an Liberal Arts Boarding school in 7th grade. Was A.D. particularly driven to make her name in the arts as her calling? Not really. Did she have a valuable perspective to show that demanded self-expression? Not to her. But she had always excelled in every art class or hobby that had been thrown at her. Whether it was music, fine arts, visual arts -- she could dabble. When visiting the multitude of cousins she had, they'd always joke that they knew Ada was in town because there'd always be pictures of various art museums shared at family gatherings.
For a short time her father, Chidi, attempted to be in her life properly. For a semester, she was a dayboarder -- her mother even attempted to stay in one place for 6 months. Her room was barely decorated when it all fell apart and though A.D.'s grades had never been better -- something within her started to turn sour. Once inquisitive, she became sarcastic and combative. Her curiosity had an edge of judgement, once more introverted, she started to engage with the world as if it were her punching bag, her stomping ground, her personal oyster. She was known in school, for better or for worse.
If she could have anything she wanted --- why not her father's presence ? His love? His attention? No matter what she did -- his calls never came at the right time. They'd exchange messages about music, he'd send her records that he'd find on his travels. But it wasn't enough. Though so many of her friends families operated similarly, A.D. would prod and question the few friends she had with normal familial situations. Conclusion? It was possible, to have a father stick around, even if not for her. At the end of the day, she didn't feel like she was asking for much. Alisa may have been a jetsetter not bound by location alone but she would drop it all at the drop of a hat for her daughter if she asked. After graduation, A.D. never had to work but she did stay in school -- going to Parson's getting a dual degree (Design & Tech + Visual Studies). While New York was a fun playground, she spent her time doing exactly what her mother did after graduation -- traveling. Spending time with various family members, acquaintances, former peers and even a few high-profile names -- A.D. got to live a life.
When Chidi reached out to Adaeze wanting to have a relationship with her -- she jumped at the chance. There may have been years of resentment, anger, sadness and anguish even that had colored the last few decades but deep down she hadn't wanted for anything but this. At first, the idea of living with her grandparents seemed idyllic until being in a large house by herself seemed excessive. Though she loathed to admit it, it also seemed lonely. Never had she lived so alone in so much space, it's why she loved boarding school, why she lived in bigger bustling cities, why she stayed in school so long despite not having a real career path. While Starlight Oaks had been an idllyic place for her to live before, it had changed since the last time she had had roots there. Moving back to be closer to her family had been nice at first -- until her father claimed he forgot that he had even made the call to her. Not realizing what was going on, A.D. was angry, keeping distance between him and her even though they were in the same small town.
A.D. got her first 'real' job -- working at Galaxy Gardens dispensary. At first, she was only a Budtender and delivery driver but as she found a sort of novelty in the job she started to really dedicate her time to it. She was one of the few Budtenders that knew all the regulars as she had stuck around long enough to know the O.G.s --coworkers who had been there since day one. While at first got severely made fun of by her coworkers for not knowing how to do basic life things like taxes or how to properly clean a glass display container, she became one of the best coworkers to have, earning their respect. Eventually, she got promoted from Budtender to Shift Lead, then to Assistant Manager and in September-- Manager. Something she is proud of, an accomplishment she knows she has earned herself. Everything was 'normal' for a little while until it was revealed that her father was sick -- diagnosed with dementia. It was the reason he had reached out to her with no recollection of the conversations they had had about her relocating, but had had whole other families. A wound that A.D. had felt she would be able to heal had reopened, this time deeper and more painful than she had ever anticipated. HEADCANONS:
Runs that Dispensary like the Navy (Taylor’s Version). Her grandparents told her they’d like actually both support her / let her stay in their beach house but she’d have to get an actual job. Now, did they want her to work as a legal drug dealer? not really. her mother is over the moon and think it's hilarious, often defending her kid because they literally are a wino family. A.D. also kinda was like...well...i'm 27 and have NEVER had a job...embarazzzing....
Originally a bud tender then working her way to be manager. She’s kinda the best manager you could have and really makes sure to take care of her employees because she does realize she has a lot of privilege in how much she’s never had to worry about money but her coworkers/peers/etc MANY have had to so she picks up the slack. She'll feed them often, spoil them with employee samples, work shifts for them if she can/is able. If Lorelai Gilmore ran a dispensary tbh! gets a kick out of fighting upper management
No one else can afford proper car insurance and such so she ends up doing deliveries for customers atp and while she used to love driving around town doing it, she's just kinda tired of it LMAOOOO
Has an expensive fancy ass tattoos but especially for every place she’s ever visited, she has something thats kind of like stamps/postcards/something symbolic of that place. Started with the states in the US she went to when she was 16 and her grandparents/teachers were PRESSED but her and her mom/sibling had a cheeky giggle. alisa got a matching tatt with her for her 18th
Definition of knowing 6 languages so she can talk shit to you in each one of them
very fun fun nails. does not love wearing them SUPER long but like if the design calls for it....she'll suffer for her art!
colorful long coat collection!!! has a fun style tbh!!!
Arts yes, performing arts, no. I'll say it again, PERFORMING ARTS? no.
REALLY good at cooking breakfast…otherwise relies on her air fryer….she just has better things to do…you know…she CAN she just does NOT want to…speaking of household stuff...she's FINE at laundry...just don't let her do yours if you don't want something to shrink.
her mom is if like gwenyth paltrow mixed with drew barrymore and one of a lot of siblings. she’s kinda the youngest daughter in a very knives out energy giving family. so sure her mother loves her but ………..gg in getting direction from that woman! the only direction you're gonna get from her is which gate to board gg
what does a romantic relationship even really look like to her?? so many of her friends she grew up with have grand ambitions or grand families or grand spouses. the idea of having a house, family with children, staying in one place to raise kids is both terrifying and alien. though now she is here in this place about to turn 30.
is having a lowkey crisis about turning 30! will get over it but has to be dramatique about it first. kinda wants to throw a party for it....
captious is a fancy word for petty btw
in terms of her gender ...i kept writing cis-woman and it just didn't feel completely right but A.D. is struggling with coming to terms with understanding HER relation to being gender queer in any way. she just hasn't found a label that has exactly fit and knows that this is one of the least important things to figure out rn.
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
RIVALS: The rival dispensary Lunar Leaf is an establishment that has been a THORN in A.D.'s side. Constantly poaching potential employees, constantly copying graphics that A.D. has made HERSELF. She's SICK! AND! TIRED!
someone who fucked her mom lol
TRIP BUDDIES: Drug related and other! A.D. loves to adventure and explore, she definitely does hike a lot and loves to just be active in creative ways. You will NOT find her at the gym but you might find her swimming in that cold ass ocean!
EX-GF/PARTNER: all i need to say! need to write some gay shit! A.D. is not the best GF but she got MONEY... <3
cousin: she got COUSINS....
sibling: also has a younger sibling !

AGE: 30
SEXUALITY: heterosexual
PRONOUNS: She/Her
TIME IN STARLIGHT OAKS? 1 month.
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Single, divorced.
PERSONALITY: INFP
THINGS TO KNOW
tw: pregnancy, death, abuse, toxic relationship
Allegra was born in Italy, Milan. Her mother died when she was born, and her father never got married again, but always blamed Allegra for her mother's death.
She never had a good relationship with her father, in fact, he was abusive towards her. And always has a tad old-fashioned way he seeing things. Her family is a wealthy family very affluent in Italy, just as soon recognized in the US.
At the age of 15, she moved to the USA, and her father not only expanded his business but as soon as she arrived there, she was discovered by a scouter that gave her a job as a model.
Despite not being very approved by her father at first, he only allowed her to do whatever she wanted as long as she got a degree when she finished school. Less than 5 months after arriving in the 'new country', as a teenager, she was working as a model and then acting and slowly paved her way to fame.
With a lot of work trips and excellent professionalism, she managed to graduate in architecture. During this time of graduation, she met a guy that she thought would be the love of her life, and they got engaged, and shortly they married. At first, everything was perfect, until it wasn't.
Professionally, Allegra had a little decay, in the middle of her tumultuous marriage in which she was trapped. Her husband wasn't the person she thought he would be, he cheated on her didn't want to get a divorce, and threatened to ruin her career. After a lot of struggle she managed to get a divorce from her husband, what she did not know was that she was pregnant in the middle of the whole divorce process. She only knew this when she had a miscarriage, which was probably caused by the stress of all of it.
She packed her things and moved to a new city, wanting to have a quiet life. Allegra managed to turn around on her work, fortunately, everything now is well established, doing the things that she loves, which is her work, and figuring out what she wants for herself.

The Journalist
Name: Ejike Nnamdi Abara Nickname: Eji, Nam if you're close. Birthday: June 27, 1972 Gender and pronouns: Male, he/him Sexuality: Heterosexual Birthplace: Toronto, Ontario Occupation: Semi-retired journalist Current Residence: Oak Grove, Starlight Oaks Length of stay: 1 year Three positive traits: Inquisitive, persistent, determined Three negative traits: Abrasive, hypocritical, conceited
Biography tw: parent death, dementia
Ejike was born to Nigerian diplomats Nnenne and Chidi Abara while they were stationed in Toronto. The family stayed there while Ejike was in elementary school and later moved to Ottawa when he was 13 and his parents were requested in the nation's capital. He was bullied for his "unusual" name all through school, but he didn't let that get to him and used it as fuel to well at everything he did. He was a captain of the speech and debate team, high performer in model UN, and, at the urging of his parents and English teachers, the editor of the school newspaper.
After graduation, he went on to get a Bachelor of Arts in English from University of Toronto. At the time, moving 5 hours away was all his parents would allow him to do. They had always been a close family, but there had been several (not too credible) threats to his parents lives and they wanted him close should anything happen. Bachelors complete, his parents got him a job at a well respected paper while he tried desperately to get out from under their thumbs.
Following a fight with his parents about his life, his lack of relationships, and his career, he moved to the other side of the country to get his Masters in Journalism at UBC. He was able to secure a job with AP and began a beloved career as a traveling journalist centered primarily in Africa.
He rarely spoke with his parents, instead deciding to hear how they were doing from his family in Nigeria that he was newly connecting with. It was from them that he heard his mother had died while he was covering Boko Haram. Despite having not spoken directly to his parents in almost 10 years, he flew back to Canada to attend her funeral and possibly rebuild his relationship with his father. The homecoming was strained and they struggled to bond after so long apart.
Ejike decided to relocate to NYC to be in the same timezone as his father. He still traveled often, but maintained the weekly phone calls they had agreed to. Chidi retired to Starlight Oaks a few years later, having visited several times over the years. About a year prior to his own move during one of their calls, his father mentioned he'd been feeling unwell himself and was undergoing various tests with his doctor. He was told not to worry, but having already lost one parent he couldn't pass up the opportunity to help.
He moved to Seattle and helped wherever he could. Eventually, his father was diagnosed with Dementia. Ejike went into a semi-retirement and moved into the home in Oak Grove to care for him. As his father's condition worsened, he started describing siblings he didn't have and trips they never went on. When pressed, he swore they were real and eventually he found photos to prove it: his father had had several affairs and somewhere out there he had 2 siblings.
Not long after that revelation, he received a phone call from the police while out covering a story that his father had somehow made his way to Seattle and had no recollection of how he'd gotten there. After talking with his doctor, he decided to move his father into a nursing home so he could be better monitored.
An empty home, a father in a nursing home, half siblings he'd never met, and a looming early retirement. What will he do now: go back to traveling the world to report the news or stay in Starlight Oaks and see where this leg of his life will take him? Only time will tell.
Wanted Connections
Colleagues: He's been a journalist for 25 years; there's got to be former or current journalists he knows.
Neighbors: He's only been here a year, but in that time he became close enough with the locals to ask their help in keeping an eye on his father while he's gone.
Siblings: Maybe his two half siblings got to know his father better than he did?
