There had been friction in the children’s younger years, very likely wiped clean from their memories by time. Catelyn had been understandably upset by the news of a bastard sharing her son’s nursery, and while Ned confided in her who the child truly was, he kept his wife in the dark. Lyarra spoke to the woman several times, but she was firm in her disapproval and disdain. But Lyarra took the care of the young boy, taking the pressure off Catelyn to try to be a mother to a child that she never wanted. Lyarra sang, comforted and nurtured the boy, and she was not afraid to admit that he was her favorite.

She made him her little helper as he grew, and her body started to fail her. Lyarra was well into her seventies by the time he was a teenager and was finding herself in need of more help. While Old Nan was as old as the Wall and as spry as ever Lyarra found herself unlikely in her age. A cane became her new best friend and often poor Jon had to help his dear old grandmother up from her favorite chairs.

This day was no different than any other, Lyarra was sitting in her favorite room with a hound warming her feet and she was busy detailing in a rather large book the history of the family. She wanted a telling of it done from someone in the family instead of just the Maester who looked onto the world from outside of it. She heard the girls exclaiming earlier about the summer snow and knew she’d have to eventually make her way out to see the creations that the children made, but she was almost done with the chapter focusing on Cregan and his wives.

The quill she was using started to skip as her hands shook and Lyarra had to pause for a moment, leaning back into her chair and closing her eyes. The room had chilled while she worked, and she could tell without tasting it that her morning tea had long since gone cold along with her breakfast. The servants knew not to bother her while she was working on this book, and that seemed to have been a massive problem since no one checked on her fire or food. Lyarra was so focused she completely neglected her own self. “Jon? Are you near my pup?” She called, rubbing at her hands to warm them up and hoping she wouldn’t have to try to stand up herself.

Her uncle was rotting in a cell and could not harm her. Only a fool would think of threatening her now that the Magnar of Thenn and his men were bound to her.
