kumara held a small basket full of brownies, a bottle of her favorite vodka, some candy and other treats along with pre-written notes of apology as she walked around the floor of her tiny apartment complex at three in the morning. her son was finally asleep, he’d been having a bad week with sleep training and had been screaming at the top of his tiny tiny lungs on and off for the past three hours. she looked as anyone would expect to look from having to put an ornery infant to sleep: a total mess. but she wanted to apologize before she knocked out for the night herself. she’d placed things outside of each door with a note for those who didn’t answer, and had readied to do the same with her neighbor she actually shared a wall with. they had just moved in the week before, and she hadn’t gotten to see them yet. this wasn’t exactly how she wanted to introduce herself, so part of her hoped they wouldn’t open up…

           a sigh, so deep from inside of her part of her was surprised cobwebs and moths didn’t come fluttering from her lips, escaped from kumara’s chest and weighed down the lines of her body. “ i give it a week tops. you’ll be tired of me. everyone gets tired eventually, ” she chuckled self deprecatingly and rolled her wrists, a nervous habit. those words were a little more honest than she meant for them to be, and a sinking feeling accosted her stomach. “ sorry... ”

a sad look flickered across kumara’s face. she quickly recovered and chuckled, shaking her head, looking away and up at the ceiling. “ i thought it was obvious by now i fucking hate myself, ” she laughed, the sound slightly forced. “ you gotta keep up here, dude. ”

                      it was getting late, the evening chill slipping into the warm pub from the cracked entrance door. kumara was sitting at the bar, sipping her beer with her band mates just to the left of her. she’d broken off from the conversation for a bit, in her own head for a moment. “ did you like the set?? ” she asked the stranger sitting on the other side of her, though she wasn’t looking directly at them. she took a moment to turn her head and propped it up on her right hand, waiting for them to acknowledge her or answer her question.

                            “ if you didn’t wanna come, you didn’t have to, ” kumara swirled her drink around, gaze on the bubbles the motion created. she was about to be up on stage in a few minutes, the opener was on their last song, and the energy the other had been giving her all night was beginning to set her on edge. “ you look... bored. are we boring you?? ”

              “ i am sick and tired of people!! all everyone ever does is lie and keep secrets all the damn time!! including you!! ” a book flew from the shelf and nearly hit the other in her anger. “ just leave me alone!! ” and another book, joined by a few pens. she wasn’t trying to hurt them, but sometimes when kumara’s emotions ramped up to new heights, things just tended to… fly.
