Sterek Box Trolls AU - Beneath Beacon Hills, in the old tunnels that lay abandoned beneath the town, live the Box Trolls, a group of beings who hide in old cardboard boxes and are said to prey on children at night.

Derek has always been intrigued by the gruesome tales of the horrific beasts, especially the legend of the Stilinski baby: a boy who was eaten by Box Trolls after they killed his father in the middle of the night.

But that’s not the truth. The Box Trolls are friendly creatures who scavenge through trash at night to find things they may be able to use. Among them is a boy called Stiles—the Stilinski baby.

Stiles’ father was fascinated by the Box Trolls and would befriend them, giving them trinkets that they turned into inventions. They adored baby Stiles and would often bring him toys they’d made out of trash. One night, Stiles’ father was attacked by the man they call the Catcher, a man who is hell bent on exterminating the Box Trolls in order to earn his place among the higher ups of Beacon Hills. Noah passed his son out the window and begged the Box Trolls to look after him, and they did. They took him into the tunnels and raised him.

Stiles never thought his life was different, not until he met Derek who told him Box Trolls were violent beasts. Desperate to prove him wrong, Stiles takes Derek to meet the Trolls.

Derek realises how wrong he was. He sneaks out at night to bring the Box Trolls gadgets and trinkets. Derek overhears the Catcher, Gerard Argent, and his a plan to kill all the Trolls. He sets about trying to help Stiles save them; giving Stiles one of his old suits and teaching him how to walk, talk and dance. They go to the ball the Hale family are holding and Derek tries to get his family to listen, but they don’t.

However, Argent overheard him. Not wanting his plans foiled and thinking he could use Derek as bait for the Trolls, he kidnaps him and ties him up in the basement of his house. Derek fights to get out when a voice tells him, “Save your energy, kid. They’re constructor knots; the more you move, the tighter they get.”

As the shadows shift, Derek realises he’s looking at Noah Stilinski, Stiles’ father.

Together, Stiles and Derek save the Box Trolls and our Gerard Argent as the man who kidnapped Noah Stilinski.

In the quiet that follows, Derek leads Stiles over to Noah. With tears in his eyes, Noah says, “I don’t know if you remember me—” His words aren’t cut off as Stiles quietly mutters “Dad” and runs into his arms.
