Having your own homeland, that feeling of belonging to somewhere, somewhere that’s far more better than being in a place where you feel yourself as a foreigner is priceless. Believe it or not, Pakistan is the place where every Muslim feels like home. Where Muslim men are not judge for having beards, where Muslim women are not questioned for wearing hijabs, where sound of azaan is what that starts the day. How can one not hold patriotism for such country which has given too much and took nothing in return?
Since primary school we have been taught that August 14, 1947 is the most important day in Pakistan’s history as it’s the day when Pakistan got Independence, when the struggles of our ancestors were answered, the day when Iqbal’s dream came true, the day when Jinnah’s efforts were rewarded. It’s the day that we’ve been celebrating for 70 years now.
Buildings decorated with small flags and lights, planted flags on automobiles, national songs being played on speakers beside the stalls that are selling all the products having Pakistani flag on them.
Speaking of the celebrations, I must mention the events arranged by different institutes one of which is Jinnah University for Women Karachi. Students of Jinnah University have shown their patriotism in a quite amazing way. The departments were nicely decorated with small and big flags including the department of Media Studies which had arranged 3 day event.

The 3 day Azadi K Rung event was arranged by the students of BS-IV Event Management group which was sponsored by Dubai Islamic Bank. The organizers had arranged different stalls which included stall of T-shirts, face painting, paani puri, cupcakes and pastries, henna and also Ludo. Photo booth with different props was also arranged by the team. Students played games and enjoyed the mouth-watering paani puri and not to mention the cupcakes which added a sweet taste to the whole celebration. Teachers played their part and appreciated the team by playing games and enjoying the food.

Students were amused by the arrangements and praised the efforts of organizers and it all went undoubtedly good.
Two seminars were organized for the students of Media Studies. Mubashir Hashmi (anchor at Geo News) and Ashar Alam (also from Geo News) were invited as guests. Debates done made students applaud as energetically as they could. Both guests gave motivational speeches and were gifted with shields and bouquet’s by the dean and head of department.
Another event was enjoyed by the students of JUW in which all departments shared the celebration together where Shaniera Akram (wife of Waseem Akram) and singer Feddy Fap were invited as guests. The singer sang national songs and danced with Shaniera Akram along with the other students who were performing.

The celebration went amazing and joyful. It seemed like that patriotic feeling has been increased with the addition of another year.
Lastly, I personally want to thank Jinnah University for Women and students of Event Management team for giving us this memorable celebration.
