My Events Journey
Let me start by saying hello my lovely Tumblr family!!
My name is Sahra and I am 31 years old. A mother of two, aspiring to become an event planner. I am currently studying Events NQ 6 at City of Glasgow College. As part of my studies, I have created a blog to share with you my journey and how I came to the decision that I wanted to become an event planner. Some of the content my blog will cover is how to create a budget event, the importance of attention to detail and how to set an ambiance.
My personal journey
My journey began ten years ago when I was twenty-one years old. I have always had the desire to become an event planner, but my life at that point in time was completely different from your average twenty-one-year-old. I got married at the age of nineteen and had my daughter the following year at the young age of twenty. I was a hard-working mother juggling two jobs to ensure I was making ends meet to provide for my child.
In 2011, I helped set up the main reception hall for my friend's wedding and organised all the décor within the venue without having any prior knowledge to event planning. From that day I instantly knew what I wanted to do. To my delight it just flowed perfectly. I really enjoyed every moment of the process, from decorating the tables to setting up the main stage. I managed all of this on a budget with limited resources. I was given a blank canvas to work on, with this I managed to set up a wedding hall reception with the support of my friends. That is when I discovered that I truly loved the whole preparation and decoration part of functions, and that ignited an excitement that I have never felt in any other work I have done in the past.
Throughout the years my friends kept encouraging me to go back to college and pursue my passion for event planning as they believed I was very talented. After much consideration I decided to take on board their advice and apply for college in 2012. I had a phone interview which went fantastic, until I was advised that I most likely had to leave my job as the course was full time and needed all hands-on deck. At the time I was not able to sacrifice my employment as I had to provide for my child. Fast forward four years I then had my second child. During that period, I had studied several different part time courses, however none of them really sparked any joy within me. Come 2019 my circumstances had changed which allowed me to pursue what I really enjoy doing. Upon acceptance to the events course, I had applied for I then gave up my fulltime job and started studying fulltime. I am currently doing my second year of events. My plan is to progress to the two-year HND Events Management course with a gateway to university to do international events.
In retrospect, I regret not doing this earlier because I would have completed everything by now. However, as the saying goes you are never too old to educate yourself nor is it ever too late. Even though my journey started ten years later than I would have liked. I feel accomplished knowing I pursued my passion whilst raising my two children, studying, and having a part time job.
To my fellow readers my advice to you is never give up hope, always follow your dreams and ambitions. You create your own path, and the path becomes you! Follow your inner moonlight. You Got This!
