hey 👀 i saw that post you reblogged abt wanting asks about your ocs! i've been seeing you tag stuff with 'pactology' (i think that's what it was? correct me if i'm wrong!), that's one of your original stories, right?

if so: i would love to hear about it! based on the posts you tag for it, it seems really interesting!! i love supernatural stories :D ps.

and yes! pactology is one of my stories – sort of. it's less of a story im developing and more of a setting im worldbuilding/creating ocs in! it's basically urban fantasy, in which i adapt various common magic creatures and such to fit the magic system i made + make a fun and (hopefully) refreshing take on them

There's PLENTY i could say about different species and how i classify them + their connections to magic, but explaining how the whole magic stuff works is a bit of a boring intro to it, so i might as well introduce the OCs i focus the most in!

Sun, Nathan, Fern and Lucas! they're a gay friend group/polycule/figuring it out who all live in a coastal town Sun and Nathan recently moved into. (Sun uses it/any, the others use he/him)

Sun is (sort of) a half-demon & Nathan's boyfriend/witch familiar. they run a lil shop with Nathan in the front of their house. he became part-demon rather than being born as such, and is currently trying to get used to life like this, especially because he isn't exactly stable yet

Nathan is a witch who moved away to live alone w Sun to find himself. He opened up a shop for magic herbs and charms to work with what he knows and loves. his studies of magic focus on trying to synthesize different kinds of it based on older, less studied forms of magic.

Fern lives in their neighborhood with his aunt, Lucas and 4 dogs. he does odd jobs around town to help his aunt pay for stuff and is a sweetheart. also he's packing massive amounts of raw magic he never learned to really control and he's one meltdown away from collapsing a house :]

Lucas is a hyena/maned wolf kobold (which in this world means furry), he's been living with Fern ever since he got in bad terms with his family (he's trans. the rest is history). he's a good cook, loves hiking, and helps Nathan with his research

Looks like the cat gain some attention, i saw a movie called secret life of pet and i wonder what if the cat has interaction with daddy jin doberman but in ridiculous way like maybe hit them with the paw? I always laugh when thinking about that 🤣

I LOVED THAT MOVIE!!!

Mang once hopped off OC��s lap and tried to fight the big dogs but since they were sleeping the poor kitten too got sleepy and fell into slumber next to them under the soaring sun.OC thought the dogs would have just done the most terrible things to her but she only came back to the kitten being cuddled between two large doberman’s

not delving too much into it, but since magic in pactology is majorly done through, well, pacts, breaking one often comes with some consequence

what happened to Sun was a product of gradually breaking small pacts with a god (bcz they were pressured by family into reluctantly following a religion). the toll was having their mind become more and more fragile to spirits, until eventually The Hunger (a source of demonic power) got its hold on him, making it into what's known as an "injury". basically part-demon. now it needs to eat magic as much as it needs food to stay alive :]

dont worry too much about Nathan's subject of research lol, the kind of old magic he studies isn't particularly something people are trying to hide from the public. the main thing you should be concerned about is how lost he's gonna become in his work.

he tends to overwork himself, and fixation is a hell of an issue when your line of work involves making pacts with spirits who're all playing for different sides. he can handle them alright for now, but a thousand manageable tasks are much harder to keep up all at once, so trouble is quick to pop up if he starts fumbling

now for the question with the longest answer, what are the symbols near the headshots? these are Marks! they're sort of ur magical signature, a shorthand for describing your Soul. their appearance vary based on many factors, but mainly depend on your species and character

for these 4 characters, i had a theme in mind when making their marks – 4 celestial bodies/cards on the major arcana! The Sun (sun), The Moon (nathan), The World (fern) & The Star (lucas). i chose to represent them with the aid of symbols from hermetic alchemy

Sun's mark implements the symbol for gold (associated with the sun) and for antimony (associated with animalistic traits, to represent the demonic influence)

Nathan's uses one of the symbols for silver (associated with the moon) coupled with different stages of the moon in each circle of the mark (the moon cycle motif is echoed in his tattoos as well). note that Sun's always wearing Nathan's mark in a necklace, collar or choker. it's a witch familiar thing

Fern's is fairly simple, i used the symbol for the planet earth, a circle with a + inside it, a laid it on top of a stem for an association with nature. he has it tattoed in his left wrist :]

Lucas is a simple one too, having just a 4 pointed star instead of an actual symbol in alchemy, surrounded by circles with notches to mimic a compass (giving a guiding star sort of connotation)

thank you again for the compliments! it's definitely a fun system to work with for me, so it's nice to hear it's enjoyable for others too :D. and that's a good assessment of nathan's situation hehe

ur questions are actually pretty topical for some posts i plan to write soon explaining pacts & magic + the marks! so well, ill leave the more complete answers for that [slips new blog across the table] @pactology :]

but! not to leave you hanging, here's the summary of it

Just about anyone can make pacts, from the most trustworthy to the most treacherous, from the weakest to the most powerful! but Nathan is a smart boy, he's good at picking the right spirits and people to make pacts with, and good at making sure he isn't getting scammed. No need for the fanciest or the most orthodox, as long as it does the job right – he's a witch after all, and witches are known for being resourceful.

As for marks, they exist from the moment ur soul is, well, your soul! since they're basically how you'd "abbreviate" your soul's "full name". what they look like changes over time and is only very rarely changed by the person themselves. they echo your identity and your magic and you grow. you may not be able to change it deliberately (usually) but lifechanging choices are likely to affect it!

there's many odd cases, take the troll species, for example. they're made from clay and stone and given life by a god (it's a whole thing), so when they're sculpted, they're engraved with their family's symbol and their god's symbol, so those are a part of their soul as soon as they're given life! and they show specific symbols added deliberately, so their mark is chosen actively to some degree (and may be changed again if they're exiled or devote themselves to a different god!)
