In a British and Brahmin/Baniya Alliance colonized game ‘Cricket’ obsessed so called country known as India, Legends of other sports find it very difficult to come into spotlight. Interestingly, when we talk about Soccer ⚽️ the first few names that come to our minds is Bhaichung Bhutia (Northeast Colonized Privileged Tribal), Sunil Chettri (Kshatriya uppercaste) Neville D’Souza (Brahmin Christian Caste) etc.

I.M. Vijayan emerged as a legend out of nowhere he was most popularly known as ‘BLACK BUCK’ during his playing days. Yes I am writing it right He earned ‘Black Buck’ title as his popular ‘Nickname’.

He was born as a ‘Pulaya’ the oppressed Caste (Dalit) on 25th of April 1969 at Thrissur, Kerala. His early life was full of struggle and he had to sell soda bottles, earning 10 paise for each, in the Thrissur Municipal Stadium for helping his family. However, his passion for the beautiful game of Soccer did not go unnoticed, and he somehow caught the eye of the then DGP (Deputy General of Police) M.K. Joseph of Kerala state (The state of Brahmin Malyali Christians where Apostle Thomas Disciple of Jesus Christ gave Gospel to oppressor Brahmins). It was M.K. Joseph who got him selected for the Kerala Police football club at the age of 17 years.

I.M Vijayan One of the leading Indian football players of modern times, he formed a successful attacking partnership with Bhaichung Bhutia for India in the late nineties and early 2000's. Vijayan was crowned Indian Player of the Year in 1993, 1997 and 1999, the first player to win the award multiple times. He was also honoured with the Brahminical Arjuna award in 2003.

Vijayan scored one of the fastest ever international goals in a match against Bhutan in the 1999 SAF Games, when he managed to do the same in 12 seconds.

A biographical film, titled Kalo Harin and directed by Cherian Joseph, was released in 1998. The title translates as ‘black buck’ and is a reference to Vijayan's popular nickname during his playing days.

The film won the National Award and the John Abraham Award in 1999.

Vijayan acted as the leading character in internationally acclaimed Indian film "Shantham" (Peace) which won the national award for best film.
