Hiked the Arroyo Seco Trail today, an out-and-back hike on the Gabrielino Trail from JPL to the Switzer Falls Trailhead and back, for a total of 21 miles. Spent the majority of the day in the shade of the canyon or the woodland canopy, just perfect. There's still water but I'm blown away by how little remains. Looking forward to winter rains. By chance I ended up on a hike that totally exceeded my expectations: started at the Switzer Falls Trailhead and turned around at the top of Mount Lowe with a quick pitstop at Redbox along the way, an 18-mile effort by the end of it. Piecing it together as I went, I thought I'd be in a dry exposed wash for most of the day (sorry Arroyo Seco, love you!). Instead, mixed oak conifer woodland shaded most of my day.
