honestly the problems with nintendo just stem from lack of understanding culture in 2018. like theyre really shitty when it comes to copyright law and not knowing how to make an online service, but as a company well i mean they're better than ea and konami that's for damn sure. both in terms of products and treatment of workers. dont have to answer this btw i just kinda wanted to ramble at someone sdjks

Nintendo is far from the worst on ‘pretty much’ every front.

Make good games. Generally respectful and avoiding malicious practices toward their customers. All their (at least public) mantras revolve around giving customers what they want instead of bending over backwards for shareholders. LESS LIKELY (LESS) to release first party money grab titles.

A lot of this is me repeating myself in slightly different ways. They make good games and a lot of that leads to these other things.

I don’t see a lot of reason to compare them to konami or ea since both of them are dev/pub teams exclusively and Nintendo is a bigger beast by every description- being one of the three companies running a console (multiple) right now.

More accurate to point to Sony or Microsoft like the other post in which they are totally right (though OBVIOUSLY nintendo is less shit than EA-t my ass and fucKonami). Sony is making a lot of little stupid decisions, but making good first party games much like nintendo is- it’s just nintendo has done that always so they have the rights to brag. Microsoft has bent over backwards to alienate long time consumers and release like 3 good games total, so that’s.... good.

I’d really say it’s being far too kind to say it’s purely a ‘misunderstanding’ in the year 2018.

I said that years back and meant it, but it’s 2018 and my tune has changed. Nintendo of America has existed and gained respect since 1980 so if you wanted to say it’s a misunderstanding- they’ve had a clear lifeline for ALMOST 40 years so I’m not really giving them credit for that.

It’s greed.

It’s the same shitty drive that’s made Microsoft suck televisions dick for money and Sony adopt the Steam “EVERY GAME BECAUSE MONEY!” digital storefront.

It’s the same drive that made EA and Konami who they are (or at least I think Konami understands money enough to be greedy and not just braindead).

It’s greed.

Nintendo is shitty and greedy.

They are just LESS shitty and POSSIBLY LESS greedy than the rest.

It’s greed that re-re-re-re-re-re-re-releases Mario Bros (the arcade port) for 5 dollars every week practically.

It’s greed that makes Nintendo games stay full price for nearly the entire console life-cycle.

It’s greed that makes Nintendo create artificial scarcity of all it’s products (Amiibos, NES classic, SNES classic, Switch, THE FUCKING ALTERNATIVE COLOR JOYCONS) benefiting only themselves and scalpers while holding a firm middle finger to consumers.

It’s greed that made Nintendo file lawsuits against emulation sites and threaten intense litigation to many others as a scare tactic.

It’s greed that makes Nintendo run the PISSEST POOREST excuse for an eshop DESPITE threatening emulation sites.

It’s greed greed greed greed greed.

Not an ounce of misunderstanding, it’s greed. Just like the rest, but Mario jumps and it’s fun while other companies slam their main series into the ground or forget to advertise them to the point of death.

They are undoubtedly the best of the three console owners right now though, by a HUGE fucking margin, but that ain’t gonna make me forget or excuse the rest. But that’s me and based almost entirely off my downright livid feelings towards their anti-rom stance (Refuse to provide game preservation systems? Then stop destroying those that do it for you.).

No need to agree or feel like I’m reasonable, because full on I’ll curse their name if the topic is emulation. But I’ll also say the very true statement of “As I’m typing this answer right now- I’m playing Super Mario Party on my switch and having a great time”.

I love em, doesn’t mean I’m giving them an inch when they do shitty things and someone says “It’s just a misunderstanding” or “They just have to protect their rights!” They did and continue to do shit things and I will say it.
