it got even better. not only was there an actual Hijikata Hair Flip™, he was literally so down to start a huge public fight because someone threatened kondo. then he got hella salty when everyone was like nah. get u a man like that tbh, wow

It's not such a dumb thing to be excitwd about at all.

(Top picture: Koji Yamamoto as Hijikata Toshizo in the 2004 drama Shinsengumi; bottom two pictures: Koji Yamamoto as Hijikata in the 2015 drama Asa Ga Kita. He really hasn’t aged very much lol.)

So I was watching the current asadora Asa Ga Kita, and I got really excited because not only is there a.) a brief appearance by Hijikata and the Shinsengumi in episodes 15 & 17, but also b.) Hijikata is played by Koji Yamamoto, who also played Hijikata in the 2004 taiga drama Shinsengumi.  It’s a dumb thing to be excited over lol but it makes me happy when the same actors reprise their roles from different dramas, especially if they’re playing the same historical figure in different shows. I’m a nerd.

As a side note, I kind of wish there was a database of all the taiga dramas and asadoras and their casts, so you could see which historical figures have appeared in multiple shows and who played them in each. Like with Hijikata, off the top of my head I know he’s been in Shinsengumi, Asa Ga Kita, Yae no Sakura, and I’m sure probably others, so it’d be neat to see all of the actors that have played him in one place. (I really just like databases lol).
