It's a strangely familiar scene, standing on a bridge awaiting the return of a pest seeking passage, but it was as if everything had been shifted sideways and drenched in accursed blood.

Instead of the golden light of the Erdtree shining down on the proud ramparts of Stormveil, an unshifting crimson sunset silhouetted dark towers that rose from the earth like jagged teeth. Behind him was somewhere once holy, once healing, that now stank just as badly of blood and twisted flesh as the sewers of his youth, as the rest of this dreadful place.

What was he here to protect? He can't remember anymore, there's nothing worth it here. How could there be when he knows in his bones this whole city flows with blood as cursed as his.

He awoke from the dream, a quickened heartbeat within his chest. The shrill cry still rang in his ear as though it were a reality.

... It wasn't until he heard that very same, inhuman cry that he knew something was well and truly wrong in the waking world...
