Hi friends!!! I am so excited to be bringing this lil golden retriever here to Taos. I’m gonna post an intro here so y’all can get to know her! I’d love to plot with y’all whatever connections or plots you’d like though :)

-Samantha Desmond Parks was born to a doting, southern as they come family in Georgia. The eldest of two siblings, she has always been a chipper spirit from the moment she entered this world. She embodies what the youth call ‘golden retriever energy’ and has it in spades.

-Growing up, Samantha glued herself to the TV, watching old VHS tapes of classic films that her folks grew up on. Considering her middle name, it makes quite a bit of sense that she’d be reared on such movies. From that point on, she decided she wanted to be a movie star just like the icons she grew up on.

-This manifested in her taking acting classes and booking local gigs whenever she could. There certainly seemed to be a demand for a bubbly young blonde, which was certainly not her first choice. She was a dork, first and foremost, and wanted to be involved in projects that were far more up that alley. However, she took whatever she could get to be booked.

-Over the next few years, the gal who took her inspiration from the likes of Gloria Swanson and Vincent Price became WAY more mainstream than she’d ever anticipated. She was one of the hottest young actresses, starring in a slew of successful pictures. Not only that, but somewhere along the way she’d manage to garner some sort of rivalry with a fellow blonde actress: Evangeline Marston.

-While the two couldn’t have been more opposite, it seemed as though Hollywood wanted to pit them together to be this century’s Davis vs Crawford in a way that Lohan and Duff could never. Sam never did anything to spurn this on besides take up projects and keep doing what she thought she was supposed to be doing.

-This extended into her achieving her an exceptional goal for herself. She somehow managed to land herself the opportunity to create a true passion project, a love letter to the Hollywood she grew up on. Not only did it garner her critical and commercial success, but it signaled the pivot she’d been craving in her career for almost a decade. Come Oscar night, the Samantha Parks managed to walk away with not one, not two, but THREE academy awards (best supporting actress, best original screenplay, and best director). It seemed as though she was entirely untouchable.

-Yet, the Cloud 9 sensation of being a virtuoso came with some bitter realization. Sam caught wind of what happened with Evangeline and realized that every decision she’d made in her career lead up to this moment and she was determined to make it right.

-Taking a break after an exhausting awards season, Samantha’s people were able to track down Evangeline at a ski resort in New Mexico. Armed with the best of intentions and the pitch of a lifetime, Sam’s bound for Stowe Ski Resort in the hopes of setting things right with Evangeline and maybe getting some much needed R&R.

Personality: Much of Samantha’s success can be attributed to her personality. Citing Dolly Parton as her personal icon and hero, she is definitely as sweet as southern style sweet tea. She’s nice to everyone, will do anything for you, and is all around a supportive and positive person to be around. She’s definitely got her special interests, however, and has cultivated quite the audience on Twitch and YouTube streaming all sorts of ‘cozy’ video games. Despite this easy, breezy persona, there is an extremely anxious perfectionist chilling just under the surface. She doesn’t like upsetting people and wrestles with that aspect of her image to this day. It’s partially what fueled her desire to come to Stowe and make amends. She doesn’t want to be seen as some sort of career assassin, and is going to do everything in her power to make things right.

quinn was born into a family that essentially defined old money .  from the moment she opened her eyes , she had a world of opportunities at her fingertips .  unfortunately , these opportunities also came with a litany of responsibilities .  at first it was fine .  she even liked it for the most part – dressing up for the fancy events , all of their family friends constantly fawning over her , getting whatever she wanted for her birthdays and for christmas – but then , at 9 years old , she fell in love .

her parents had brought her and her brother allowing to go skiing with them , claiming the need for a family vacation ( they were actually meeting with business owners in the small town by the resort to talk about buying them out , quinn later found out ) .  needless to say , quinn didn’t much enjoy skiing .  in fact , it bored her .  and so , being their wonderful and precious daughter , her parents allowed her to try snowboarding after she begged for . . .  well , for like two hours  ( they’re not very good at saying no to their daughter tbh ) .  

and the second she got on that board ?  oh man .  nothing had ever felt so natural to her before then .  her natural ability to make an entire room turn their heads in her direction was nothing compared to this .  it was like she was always meant to do this .  even the private instructor assigned to her couldn’t help but praise her for how quickly she’d taken to it .  and so it began .

from then on , every spare moment quinn had was spent on a snowboard .  her parents had the money and the means to make sure she could get the proper training wherever and whenever possible , so why wouldn’t they ??  they were nothing less than supportive , though admittedly it could feel borderline obsessive at times , but quinn didn’t mind .  in less than two years time , she was already competing with teenagers and winning .  her natural ability on the board and her innovative twist on various tricks flowed into her routines and it was clear she was meant for greatness .  everyone started calling her q , and honestly she liked how cool it made her sound so she kept the nickname .

for 10 years , she competed and trained and rose through the ranks .  with the amount of time spent on snowboarding , she wasn’t necessarily up to helping out with the family’s business affairs , which left that responsibility to her brother .  unsurprisingly , he began to resent her for it and the little sibling who once would show up to her competitions with entirely too many embarrassing posters turned into a young man who would barely speak a word to her .  on one hand , she understood .  it was never a life he wanted .  growing up , he was content with sitting in his room and reading his books and thinking up ways to fly to saturn .  but now it was his responsibility to keep their parents happy and to keep their clients happy .  but as much as she understood , she wasn’t willing to leave her dream behind .

then at 21 , she was finally poised to join the olympic team .  the previous olympics she had supposedly been too young , and despite the young girl being an absolute beast on the slopes , the qualifiers had been a challenge for her .  the last event had come just hours after an explosive fight with her brother and despite how hard she tried not to let it get to her , she’d been unable to completely focus and completely whiffed the tricks she had planned and had to reduce the skill level for her safety .  it was disappointing , to say the least ( and her parents made sure to tell her so ) .  but now she was ready .

unfortunately , no amount of practice could have prepared her for what would happen .  during a practice run , she’d hit a particularly slippery patch of snow and it caused her to lose control .  next thing she knew , she was head first in the snow and there was a severe amount of pain coming from her left side .  turns out she’d torn her left acl – for the second time ( and she’d torn her right one once already too ) – and dislocated her shoulder .  the shoulder was easy enough to fix but the acl . . .  well , that took a bit more recovery than she wanted .

she was pulled out of the olympics to recover , and it being her second acl tear , the recovery was much more mental than physical .  by the time she was cleared to be on a board again , her mind kept her from it anyway .  for her , it seemed that despite how much she was meant to be on a board , she wasn’t meant to succeed the way she wanted to .  to keep herself busy , she took on other hobbies ( i.e. the drums ) and traveled to places that were anything but cold , fully content to do anything that didn’t require a board . 

it took a while ( almost 2 years , in fact ) before she got back on a snowboard .  but the second she did . . .  she realized how much she loved it still .  all that time away was necessary for her to remember why she loved the sport in the first place .  she’d learned that success wasn’t necessarily about winning the most medals or getting the most sponsorships or even competing in the fucking olympics .  it was about being to get back on that board despite the setbacks .  it was about landing that cab 12 for the first time in forever .  it was about getting other people to fall in love with the sport too .

NOW :  and that’s how she ended up at the stowe ski resort in taos , new mexico .  she’d only been a couple of times , but she remembered loving the slopes there .  so she’d signed up to be a snowboard instructor and it didn’t take her much time to get to her level 1 + 2 certifications .  her skills – and not to mention her name – were enough to get her that opportunity .  that was almost two years ago .  this season she was set to earn her level 3 certification and she couldn’t be more excited about the prospect .

A E S T H E T I C S   /   P E R S O N AL I  T Y –

snowboarding is her life tbh .  like there are very few things , if any , that she values more and/or has committed more than snowboarding .

basically hops around the world to stay in cold weather , so she’s practically always wearing a beanie and a hoodie tbh , as well as snowboarding pants .

sk8r girl vibes !!  getting back on a snowboard also led her onto a skateboard and a surfboard .  while she’s not nearly as good on those , she does like to use her favorite longboard to get around when the ground isn’t icy or snowy .

she’s one of the most closed books you’ll probably ever meet .  she doesn’t like to give up information about herself , especially because there’s been enough of it in the news in the past decade .  but if you can somehow , someway get her to show you a page or two . . .  she’s actually pretty soft and incredibly loyal .

she also has this tendency to spoil pretty much anyone she likes .  like she will always always take the bill and she’ll buy something , no matter the price , if someone she cares about so much as hints they’re interested in it .

if , however , you can’t get past those walls , she’s usually just not very talkative .  when she does talk , it’s probably just a sarcastic quip here and there but full on conversations about anything that isn’t snowboarding ???  good luck .

this is her third season at stowe ski resort , so she’s pretty familiar with the place and other returning workers .  she’s developed a rapport with most of them but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re friends either .

despite her ~strained~ relationship with her parents and brother , she actually is a big family person .  at the end of the day , her parents supported her through everything since she first stepped on a board .  she’ll always be protective of them in a way .

hux was born and raised in taos, new mexico.

growing up, he was buried in sports – mostly snowboarding and ice hockey. he needed an outlet for his energy, and sports became just that. 

stumbling his way through high school, snowboarding became the only thing hux felt he was actually really good at. he was completely obsessed, and would live and breathe snowboard. by the time he finished high school, he was competing at an international level.

hux also came out as bisexual very early in his career as he felt it was important to be honest and set a precedence in a community that wasn’t necessarily seen as the most accepting for a long time. 

he was back home in taos for a while after getting injured when he got back in touch with his high school sweetheart. the two started dating again, and along came jax. 

their relationship was a turbulent and unhealthy one. with hux traveling around competing and practicing most of the year, the pair struggled with making their relationship work. they separated for a while, until hux retired and moved home to taos. 

it worked for a while, his efforts to spend more time with jax seeming like what had been missing. however, the more time spent with the two of them also led to beau. 

throughout the pregnancy though, the pair realized that this relationship wasn’t for them and that they were better off just co-parenting.

ever since retiring his professional career, hux has spent his days in the slopes feeding his obsession while also doing his best to make up for the time he spent away from jax and doing things right with beau. 

since coming back, he has joined an ice hockey team and goes to a boxing gym regularly as working has always been the best way for him to deal with his emotions.

hux is a person who feels his feelings intensely. and is extremely competitive. everything is a game he is determined to win. he’s honest and direct, and will not be afraid to stand up for what he believes in. while he appears confident and leads with example, hux has a plethora of insecurities lurking right under the surface.

about jax: jax is seventeen and non-binary. for jax, the road leading up to coming to terms with their gender identity has made its mark on the kid. they were super into ice hockey until the other kids started noticing that they were different, which made them lose all interest in the matter. they are super into music – plays guitar and drums, and would love to go into music production one day. a very creative kid who has found an outlet for their emotions and turned it into a craft they are truly honing in.

𝚜𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚢𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚎  ;

harley  has  always  been  of  a  quiet  constitution,  found  often  playing  alone  &  entertaining  herself  with  her  vivid  imagination,  but  this  often  made  her  a  target  whilst  in  school.  the  elementary  years  were  the  worst,  though  the  girl  simply  bore  the  weight  of  each  insult  and  jab  tossed  her  way,  often  hiding  the  bruises  and  telling  no  one.  after  all,  she  had  a  place  to  retreat  ---  a  place  to  lose  herself;  a  world  with  friends  who  accepted  her  &  her  strange  morbid  interests. 

it  isn’t  until  her  8th  grade  year  that  things  begin  to  change.  she  meets  a  kid,  one  deemed  as  being  from  the  wrong  side  of  the  tracks,  but  harley  knows  how  difficult  life  can  be  when  people  force  you  into  being  an  outcast  and  she  goes  out  of  her  way  to  befriend  the  boy.  they  soon  become  inseparable,  her  finally  finding  someone  who  seems  to  not  only  understand,  but  share  her  fascination  with  all  things  dark.  strangely,  the  bullying  seems  to  quit,  as  well. 

by  the  middle  of  her  freshman  year,  the  pair  become  a  couple  and  harley  is  over  the  moon.  as  someone  who  has  craved  love  and  romance  since  forever  (  or  so  it  seems  ),  things  are  finally  looking  up  for  the  sensitive  teenager  ---  or  so  she  believes.  it  isn’t  until  they’re  a  few  months  into  the  relationship  that  his  true  colors  finally  begin  to  show,  but  she  isn’t  sure  how  to  fix  her  situation.  after  all,  it’s  easy  to  convince  her  that  it’s  a  one  time  thing,  to  gaslight  her  into  believing  it  was  her  fault,  that  she  deserved  the  treatment.

by  her  sophomore  year,  nothing  seems  to  be  too  far  for  her  boyfriend,  but  still  harley  doesn’t  leave.  instead,  she  begins  her  descent  into  drugs.  it  starts  off  with  weed,  something  she  uses  to  help  numb  her  body  and  quiet  her  mind  and  it’s  used  primarily  to  help  her  sleep,  but  as  the  relationship  gets  worse,  so  do  the  things  she  uses  to  numb  herself.

her  crutch  becomes  a  full  blown  addiction  and  it  isn’t  until  it  begins  to  interfere  with  her  schooling  that  people  begin  questioning  things  and  with  the  help  of  her  parents,  she’s  finally  strong  enough  to  leave  the  abusive  boyfriend  by  the  end  of  her  junior  year.  her  freedom  isn’t  enough  to  quell  her  addiction  and  she  spends  the  summer  in  a  rehab. 

her  senior  year  is  spent  continuing  with  her  sobriety,  therapy,  and  focusing  on  her  schooling  and  she  eventually  graduates  high  school  at  the  top  of  her  class  with  a  weighted  gpa  of  4.97.  things  are  looking  up  for  harley,  her  future  promising,  but  the  death  of  her  father  cause  her  to  relapse.  she  enters  rehab  for  a  second  time  on  her  20th  birthday,  this  time  for  a  year  versus  the  three  months  she  spent  the  first  time.  she  heads  home  on  her  21st  birthday,  continuing  with  her  schooling  online  while  still  working  with  her  NA  group  and  therapy  and  upon  graduating  university,  she  slowly  begins  her  venture  into  the  world  as  a  career  woman  with  a  job  she’s  both  earned  &  has  been  graciously  provided  to  her  by  her  mother  ---  even  if  the  latter  weren’t  entirely  true,  it’d  be  difficult  to  convince  harley  otherwise  and  on  her  26th  birthday,  she’ll  be  celebrating  six  years  of  sobriety.

𝚋𝚎𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚍  𝚝𝚑𝚎  𝚖𝚊𝚜𝚔  ;

observant.  tends  to  notice  a  lot  of  things  about  her  surroundings  &  others,  including  things  that  most  probably  don’t  want  her  to?  her  eyes  are  always  open  and  time  spent  navigating  the  volatile  relationship  with  her  ex  has  made  her  hyperaware  of  the  actions,  words,  and  energy  shifts  in  people.  even  if  they  don’t  have  anything  to  do  with  her  directly.

empathetic.  something  of  an  emotional  sponge  &  is  sensitive  to  the  environment  around  her.  it  doesn’t  take  much  time  for  her  to  pick  up  someone’s  feeling  and  adopt  it  as  her  own.  this  is  why  she  tends  to  match  the  energy  that’s  given  to  her,  unless  her  own  emotions  /  thoughts  are  strong  enough  to  run  the  show.

confrontational.  you  may  notice  that  she  likes  to  argue  just  for  the  sake  of  arguing  (  it’s  always  playful  &  maybe  she’s  a  wee  bit  childish  and  finds  being  difficult  kinda  fun,  especially  considering  she  hasn’t  ever  really  had  the  opportunity  to  be  that  way  ),  but  when  it  comes  to  the  serious  stuff,  she’ll  come  find  you  so  things  can  be  hashed  out  face  to  face.  even  if  the  answers  may  scare  her  or  the  fall  out  may  hurt  her,  she  won’t  let  herself  overthink  stuff  like  that.  is  never  the  type  to  believe  shit  told  to  her  through  the  grapevine,  either.  for  example,  someone  tells  her  that  someone  did  something  to  /  said  something  about  her,  she  won’t  believe  it  ..  but  she  will  immediately  find  the  person  in  question  and  ask  &  make  her  decision  based  off  the  answer  received. 

morbid  /  curious.  she’s  into  all  of  the  dark,  twisted  stuff  that  seemed  to  raise  a  lot  of  red  flags  when  she  was  younger,  but  she’s  always  been  obsessed  with  figuring  out  why.  why  does  someone  do  the  things  they  do,  why  do  they  act  the  way  they  do,  why  do  they  think  the  way  they  do,  etc.  tends  to  disregard  most  social  norms  &  literally  loathes  small  talk.  trying  to  get  her  to  partake  in  small  talk  is  a  sure  fire  way  to  get  on  her  no,  i  don’t  ever  want  to  talk  to  you  so  please  never  interact  with  me  ever  unless  you  wanna  have  a  REAL  conversation,  thank  you  goodbye  list.

thirst  for  knowledge.  she  knows  a  little  about  a  whole  lot,  collects  random  tidbits  of  information  like  they’re  her  lifeline,  reads  academic  research  papers  for  fun.  dislikes  all  STEM  subjects  with  math  being  the  bane  of  her  existence.  her  curiosities  spread  far  &  wide,  covering  a  magnitude  of  different  subject  areas.  she  did  a  duel  major  &  has  degrees  in  both  marketing  and  creative  writing  (  she  focused  in  fiction  ).  she  does  have  dreams  of  publishing  a  proper  book,  but  she  hasn’t  quite  decided  the  story.

occupation.  she’s  the  marketing  manager  for  the  ski  resort  as  her  main  occupation  and  something  she  takes  very  seriously,  but  she  also  has  a  (  monetized  )  blog  where  she  posts  her  short  horror  stories,  all  of  which  are  written  under  a  pen  name.  of  course,  she  takes  that  seriously,  as  well,  but  anything  for  the  resort  always  comes  first  because  FAMILY  comes  first  to  harley.

morals.  despite  her  past,  or  maybe  because  of  it,  harley’s  moral  compass  is  kinda  ridiculous  and  partly  responsible  for  some  of  her  rigidness.  it  can  often  be  mistaken  as  her  thinking  she’s  better  than  you,  but  that  is  certainly  never  the  case.  in  truth,  it’s  something  she’s  put  in  place  to  help  keep  herself  sober.

lover  of  the  unlovable.  she’s  always  found  it  easy  to  love  those  that  were  told  /  believed  to  be  unlovable,  often  gravitating  towards  them  as  if  tethered  to  them  by  an  unseen  force.  this  has  become  even  more  of  a  thing  since  getting  clean  the  second  time  &  it  can  often  get  her  in  trouble,  but  it  doesn’t  stop  her.

rough  around  the  edges.  it’s  extra  difficult  for  her  to  show  love  to  herself,  especially  because  she  still  hears  the  voice  of  her  ex  in  her  head,  but  she  is  the  most  gentle  with  others  ---  except  if  she  feels  them  getting  to  close.  if  she  believes  someone  is  creeping  too  close,  she  often  has  a  habit  of  lashing  out.  despite  that,  however,  her  time  in  NA  has  taught  her  how  to  apologize  and  make  amends.  it’s  not  very  often,  especially  if  she’s  at  fault,  that  a  fight  /  argument  lasts  longer  than  a  few  hours.

born the older of two, rizky had a good few years before having to fully take on that older sibling persona.  their parents were both nurses so they made a pretty good living and for the most part, ri and their sibling didn’t want for anything growing up.  when ri was 10, their parents decided to move the family to santa fe ( about a 1.5 hour drive from taos ) to be closer to other family members.  while ri was sad to be leaving taos ( and all of their friends ), they didn’t mind getting to move closer to their aunts and uncles in santa fe because it made their parents really happy to have that kind of support around.

starting school in santa fe wasn’t too bad because a lot of their cousins, older and younger, were either in the same school or in the neighboring schools. starting high school, however, was a different beast.  they had started to have an inkling that they weren’t exactly like their other girl-friends in that. . .  well, they were pretty sure they didn’t like guys at all.  regardless, there was a cute boy in their freshman year who took a liking to ri so when he asked them to homecoming, they said yes and the two started a relationship that would reach a mutually-decided break up about four months later.

sophomore year, they came out as a lesbian and for the most part, it went well.  they were most afraid of their family’s reaction, but everyone – save for an uncle or a cousin who made a couple of comments before being shut tf down by everyone else – accepted them fairly easily.  tbh though they’re kind of a soft, pining boi so even though there were ladies who would ask them out and show interest, they of course decided to set their sights ( and heart ) on the unattainable beautiful and kind popular girl.  ( maybe something happened with the girl, maybe nothing did but ri was definitely in one real relationship before the end of high school )

after graduating high school, they went to college on the east coast, managing to get a full ride to a highly ranked liberal arts college in the northeast. this was where they kind of fully went through the journey of figuring out their gender identity.  at that point, their coming out was more like an over-the-phone thing because they feared they wouldn’t be able to do it in person.  luckily their parents and sibling were very open to it, though it took a while for their dad to really understand it, but at the very least, they made a concerted effort to use the right pronouns.

unfortunately, coming out as non-binary led to a bit a tiff between their immediate family and some extended family members.  there are some members of the family that simply do not speak to them or even really acknowledge their existence, so that pretty much deterred ri from wanting to head home following college.  therefore, they only applied to law schools on the east coast, ending up at one in dc.  and that’s where they met her.

ri and their ex-fiancee shared a first-year class together but didn't actually talk until they ran into each other at a bar the next semester. she started flirting with them and ri, not one for hookups, just made sure she got home safely. the ex-fiancee wasn't much for relationships, but ri made a deal with her: “give me a chance for two weeks, and if you don't want to go out with me after that, then at least I tried.” surprisingly ( but also sort of unsurprisingly bc ri can be charming when they want ) ri charmed the ex-fiancee and before long they got together.  they proposed a week following graduation, knowing they were both planning to move to nyc after.  six months in, they break things off ( sort of mutual, but not really ? ), and despite deciding to be friends, not much effort has been made on that front.

NOW :  ri is basically reeling from the breakup and she wanted to come “home”, but not home home for obvious reasons ( santa fe ) .  in all honesty , they haven’t even been back to visit taos since before high school , so it’s been a minute .  but they knew they needed to take a break and “ heal or whatever ” as was lovingly suggested to them by their sibling ( and friends ) , and taos seemed like the best place to go.

first off they’re a COMMITMENT-PHOBE THROUGH AND THROUGH but when they commit, they COMMIT.  unfortunately, with how their last relationship ended, they’re pretty much regretting every decision they’ve made since starting law school ( esp deciding to get a job in and move to new york for a girl when their unwillingness to do that with their college s/o was one of the biggest reasons that relationship crumbled ) they’ve regressed back to their heavily commitment-phobic ways which has really just had them fully reverting back to their softboi pining loser ways :)

actually pretty sporty !!  they know how to ski and snowboard pretty well ( not competition-level or anything but they get by ).  they were on the varsity tennis team in high school and they also played a lot of intramural soccer in college ( mostly goalkeeper, if you can believe it with their height )

fun and witty, but it takes a while for them to really open up to people.  they hide a lot of their feelings in sarcasm and jokes, but they’re working on it ( sort of ) !!

edwin didn’t have a very noteworthy childhood .  he basically just did what other kids did , go to school , hang out with other kids , spend time with his family , etc. and his parents were more than supportive of whatever he wanted to be ( though they’d drop an occasional hint here and there about becoming a doctor or a lawyer or an engineer , etc. ) .  but honestly , he had a great childhood . middle school and high school was no different .  he was on the honor roll , a player on the varsity tennis team , and he was the kind of guy that had his own friend group but was loved by everyone .

after graduating from high school , he attended uc berkeley for their architecture program .  sure , he wasn’t getting a medical degree or a j.d. but his parents knew that he loved it and were just glad his passions would still provide him with a relative stable income .

he met his (now ex) wife at berkeley .  they shared a physics class together and ended up becoming really good friends before finally deciding to date at the beginning of their sophomore year .  to say he was absolutely in love with her would be an understatement .  he would’ve done practically anything for her , including move to seattle after getting his masters in architecture .  as much as he didn’t want to leave his family , he knew that it was close enough to go home for holidays and other family events but far enough to really let him live his own life .

the two got married pretty soon after edwin got his masters so that they could still have the ceremony in san francisco and have the entire chu clan there .  they then moved to seattle and began their life together .  almost a decade later , he and his wife found out they were expecting a child .  with them both at a stable point in their careers and their lives , they couldn’t have been happier . right before their son , maxwell , was born , they decided to move back to san francisco for a year or two to help with the transition ( and to give the grandparents quality time with the baby ) .  and it was all so wonderful .  until it wasn’t .

some time after maxwell turned 1 , there were some medical complications and he ended up passing away .  the death took a toll on everyone , but especially edwin and his wife .  for two years , they tried to make it work between them but they came to the conclusion that it wasn’t something they could work through together , at least not romantically .  they decided to file for divorce and surprisingly , it actually helped them get closer as friends .  they allowed themselves to continue grieving their son and together they helped each other start to recover .

however , with what would have been their son’s fifth birthday ( along with the anniversary of his death ) coming up , his ex-wife saw how stressed and anxious edwin was getting .  neither anniversary had been particularly easy for them but she was growing more and more worried about edwin .  he was throwing himself into his work , taking on project after project and not taking care of himself .  so she forced told him to take a break .

NOW :  and that’s how he ended up at stowe ski resort in taos , new mexico .  his ex-wife had recommend the place , saying that a close friend of hers thought it was a perfect place to go to when people wanted to shut themselves from the outside world .  he’s been here for a few weeks now and after many unsuccessful attempts at skiing and snowboarding , he’s mostly stuck to just walking around the resort and stress cooking in his apartment .

oak always stood out in a crowd. very early on, they realized that they didn’t identify with the gender they were assigned at birth, and just did their own thing instead.

it wasn’t until they were two years into their college degree that they came out as non-binary to their parents, who to oak’s big surprise had absolutely no issues with it.

after college in new york city, oak came back home, having missed it a little too much for comfort. they started as an apprentice at one of the tattoo shops in town, with a side hustle gig at one of the night clubs in order to make ends meet. eventually they started taking their passion for music seriously and started getting dj sets at the club, while taking on more responsibility for the club.

oak didn’t really notice carrie until she started working at the club. they had always been one to make a point of getting to know everyone who worked there, and the second they got to know each other, oak started gravitating towards her.

when one of carrie’s friends made them aware of how the other felt, oak was sold.

they moved in together and started building a life for themselves. while oak had never seen themself as a person who wanted children, carrie flipped it on its head the second it was mentioned in conversation. they quickly realized that their reservations had never really had anything to do with how they actually felt, rather than their fear of commitment.

throughout their process of trying for a baby, every time it didn’t stick, oak got more and more defeated. it felt like this one thing they all of a sudden craved so deeply wasn’t meant for them. as if the universe was telling them this wasn’t meant to be. oak agreed to one last try before they would let it go for a while – without little to no hope it would work this time around. 

when it seemed like it was out of the question, the pair packed up and moved to taos, needing a change of scenery. oak had gotten a sweet gig as a club manager, where they could throw the events they wanted and dj to their heart’s content.

however, as they were starting to finally feel at peace moving into their new home, the  revelation of carrie’s pregnancy hit oak like a ton of bricks. while they were ecstatic that it had finally worked, oak felt more than unprepared, especially with going into their new jobs and not having their home in order yet. 

when aspen came around though, everything else faded away. she is oak’s baby girl, and they would do anything for her.

oak has over the years developed a strong need to advocate for lgbtqia+ rights and issues, and will from time to time put on events and such for the community around the resort.

recently, they also started a podcast focused on lgbtqia+ topics, and would love to have every single person in town on it, even if it is just to understand someone new just a little bit better.

growing up, riley never really fit into the binary. they never really subscribed to the idea of gender or what that meant, maybe because they were void of any guidance from their parents, but it is something they are grateful for to this day.

starting high school in a new place gave riley a much needed fresh breath of air. they did relatively well in high school, despite getting into smoking weed under the bleachers with the other outcasts and the older kids.

out of high school, riley got a job as a tattoo apprentice in town. a job that fit their creative self well.

after saiya, they’ve had some relationships here and there, but nothing too serious, mostly just flings.

riley has never visited their parents in prison and probably never will.

about a year after high school, riley’s grandmother passed away, which sent riley into a head spin. already nursing a broken heart, the overwhelming sense of abandonment sent riley slipping into some harder drugs for a hot minute. soon realizing how scared they were of the repercussions, riley managed to pull herself out, and has stayed to smoking weed and drinking for the most part since.
