I’m almost done with my proto-iru > ancient Iru evolution, which involves a LOT of complex sound changes including metathesis, sibilant formation, the gain and loss of consonant voicing, the addition of two more vowels and the loss of phonemic length, TWO vowel shifts, as well as some others

The pre-proto-iru word for “personal boat, canoe” is *yahiro’a [jaˈhi.ro.ʔa]

Hundreds of years later in proto-Iru that becomes hiaroa [çia.ɹoa] where the word was written down as two glyphs HIA-ROA

About 500 years after its fist recording, the word is now pronounced sášuì [sä˦˥.ʂɯ̹i˥˨]
