Some more Jeff Minter and Llamasoft goodness, for our love and joy! For some odd reason, I find Batalyx extremely fascinating XD only Jeff Minter could come up with such weird games. I found the black ad you see randomly on ebay, while I was looking for Llamasoft games. And of course, where will I find something like that again? So I got it as well ( ˙꒳​˙ ). Had to wait a bit for all the packages to arrive (UK postage to Italy is now slower because of Brexit), and today's the day I show these to you! And up in the right corner, the DOS version of Tempest 2000, because yes. Can never have enough Tempest 😌. . Talking about obscure games, on Sunday I'll be able to try a special game for the first time: Tempest 3000! You might be saying, ha, yet another Tempest! Even though it is another version of that, this one only came out on the Nuon, an entertainment system that is so rare that it's really something to see it in real life. And it can't be really emulated either, so even owners of the original machine have to risk using it to play the games. Tempest 3000 is even rarer XD. But thanks to @magnum_cdi, my dreams of playing the game are going to become reality! 🤣Can't bring it back home, though. Vol 2, and I think the writer just dropped the entire plot in an instant 👀. First of all, this game isn't mine XD it belongs to the awesome @magnum_cdi who was so kind to let me try it at #firenzevintagebit2022! It's very similar to Tempest 2000, but has more vector-looking graphics and smokey effects. Also, it's slightly "epilepsy-warning", just like Polybius 👀. Jeff Minter really does love making games like these, doesn't he? I'd like to own this game too one day! You can play this on a device called Nuon, a dvd player that also plays games! The model I tried was specifically the Samsung Nuon DVD N-505, with the HPI Stealth pad. . Also, I tried Tempest 4000 on the new Atari VCS (that is not the Atari 2600 you're thinking about, sadly), and it's practically the same as the other versions, but this one supports a special controller: a "classic" joystick that also has a paddle included! I tried it to see if it would feel similar to the original arcade game, but that wasn't the case, sadly. Too bad, but I'm glad they tried to include it! It would be an amazing selling point if it worked XD. . After that, I picked up the regular controller and played a few levels, and soon enough I was surrounded by various people and friends XD. They were all taking pictures and videos of me playing. [Tempest 4000] More at my blog blisscast.wordpress.com, link in bio. Check out my opinion on the Ps Vita version of this game, TxK, at my blog! It's journal page number 13! Link in bio. . After playing TxK, that amazing Tempest-like game I wrote a Journal Page about, I had to try its "sibling" on PS4 and Steam! As I explained in the journal page, it's basically the same game, but with tons (and I mean it) of Atari references. I've also found a solution to an issue I complained about in my journal; I was sad that TxK's soundtrack was not retained in Tempest 4000, but if you press triangle twice on the level select screen the game will switch to TxK's OST! It's not 100% of the tracks, but at least there's Space is Everything! So, quoting my journal page, Space is indeed Everything 😎. I got until level 39 (out of 100), then I stopped playing because I felt like trying to complete level 63 in TxK, and... I made it! . I'm currently at level 65 in TxK. The levels are really difficult now, and sometimes you end up in situations where the screen is so clogged with annoying stuff that you can't shoot at, that you end up dying as a result. Amazing 🙃. After that, Uncle Jeff (aka Jeff Minter, developer of the game) gifted me with a very rare and lucky gift: 2 additional lives!.... I did lose them because of the amount of stuff on screen, but even so!
