History calls the struggle between King Aegon II and his half-sister Rhaenyra the Dance of the Dragons, but only at Tumbleton did the dragons ever truly dance... One such said afterward that the flight of Tessarion and Seasmoke seemed more mating dance than battle. Perhaps it was.

Tessarion, the Blue Queen

I'll admit that when I first saw that Tess won the poll I went "fuck" because I already had Meleys mostly mapped out in my head and I had to go back to the drawin' board. Tess girls I'm so sorry for sleeping on your girl as I started drawing and experimenting and reading about her I started to form a very clear image in my head about Tessarion and now I care her So Much and I'm looking forward to seeing her final design on HotD more than Sunfyre's. How the turns have tabled etc.

In my head Meleys and Dreamfyre are Tess's moms simply because Dreamfyre is blue and Mel is a Queen and I'm not original and always ready for lesbians.

Tessarion is the youngest of the Greens fleet of dragons. I think she's around the age of Vermax. Daeron bonded with her when he was six but we aren't given an age for when Daeron first rode her.

Okay now lets jump into pure conjecture to go along with my design notes: I think Tessarion's nickname comes from her mom and the fact that she is, uh, gorgeous. While Daeron is the shadowed youngest of his brothers, Tessarion was the big personality and spice that grew in opposite of her rider. Idk I think she was feisty and beautiful and Daeron loved her a lot and she made him feel less lonely in Oldtown. War was supposed to be her and Daeron's chance to prove worth to their family. Nothing says coming of age like Crownlands conflagration.

I choose to believe Daeron and Tessarion had a very close bond. He was the first and youngest of the Green kids to bond with a dragon. After Daeron's death her fury was directed at the Blacks' dragons. Me being a terminal dragon girl, I get very emotional thinking about her death. After Seasmoke messed her up bad, she STILL outlived Seasmoke and Vermithor. She lingered on the battlefield, trying three times to take flight and failing. After a day of this, Benjicot Blackwood ordered his archer Billy Burley to euthanize her, killing her with three arrows to her eye.

The three arrows in her headdress are fletched with the colors of house Blackwood and house Burley.

I really like k-ac-l-art's Tessarion design and was a huge jumping point for her horns but I chose to stick closer to how she's described with brighter blues and coppers.

Also sorry but I am just Not going to be very consistent with my style for this portrait series. This has all just been a really relaxing exercise in exploring what I can do.

Another Dragon!

This time it's Tessarion, the Blue Queen. Barely of fighting weight when the Dance started, she was ridden by one of only two decent people on the side of the Greens: Daeron Targaryen. He was the youngest son of Viserys and Alicent. They both died during the Dance, unfortunately. Tessarion is one of my favorite dragons by color, and so I really wanted to do her next.

She is described as having wings of dark cobalt with claws, crest, and belly of copper. The specific blue of her scales isn't give, so I made them a lighter cobalt color. Her flames are blue.

This is definitely one of those pieces that looks better IRL, because I used metallic copper paint and metallic blue for the dots of the scales, and neither was picked up by the camera. I added the lighter dots later in procreate when I made the background white and emphasized the lineart. I tried to give her a background, I really did, but everything I did just looked *terrible*, so I left her white.

Since a lot of leaks regarding season 2 have been coming out, these are some of the ones I liked or would like to see adapted on the show based on what I've read mostly on Tumblr and Reddit:

1. Rhaenyra flying on dragonback to Shipbreaker's bay to find what remains of Luke and Arrax and basically her mourning. Emma Darcy is very good at portraying emotions of grief and loss so it'll make for a good scene as well as show Rhaenyra's determination going forwards.

2. Aemond may have one scene talking with Vhagar about what he's done and the consequences going forwards. Now this is really speculation and probably based on one of the fanarts going around which was very very beautiful but I would love to see this.

3. Alicent and Helaena share a moment before Aemond's arrival where Helaena tells her she's pregnant. We don't really know if Maelor already exists currently and I don't know how her being pregnant would fit with the book timeline and the Bitterbridge incident later on but it'll be nice nonetheless to see any scenes of Helaena at this point before B & C

4. Corlys and Rhaenys' involvement with their grand daughters. Exploring their relationship, their concerns regarding the future and their involvement in the war. Rhaena and Baela helping out and basically just contributing towards their cause and just more scenes of the Velaryons in general.

5. Jaehaerys' funeral scene. Alicent giving a speech but getting too choked up and Criston vowing he'll be avenged.

6. Alys Rivers roasting the fuck out of Daemon. Now this is primarily based on the casting video of Emily Beecham but I read somewhere they'll have another version of this. Cannot wait to see Gayle Rankin as Alys and the vibe she brings because Alys is quite a mysterious character with questionable motivations in the book and I want to see how the showrunners are going to translate that from paper to screen.

7. Daeron. I would like to see him introduced in Oldtown preferably and him flying Tessarion to light the Hightower green declaring war, as per one leak or even introduced in king's landing and his estranged relationship with the rest of his family. Anything works at this point.

8. Sara snow. Does she exist? Or was she just a made up character to distract from Cregan and Jace's relationship. I'm happy to see it play out either way.

9. The Dragonseeds. There's a picture going around which looks like the Red sowing featuring actors who are probably playing High Hammer, a genderbent Ulf the white and Nettles. There are pictures of Alyn Velaryon maybe? on the beach of Dragonstone so that whole arc is intriguing.

10. Larys strong. A deeper dive into a hint of his motivations, helping the greens, his underhand rivalry with Mysaria. Is it going to impact B & C ? How does he go about in the aftermath, his reaction to Daemon taking Harrenhal, involvement in the small council etc etc.

As I said here.

The reason why I also don't like Aegon/Helaena/Aemond that much is because that they just seem like a copy paste.

I admit there are fanarts of Helaemond and Aegon/Helaena/Aemond that are beautiful, but I think their dynamic is so different to that of Aegon IV/Naerys/Aemon.

The greens for all their disfunctionality are loyal to each other, and Daeron is such an important of the Dance and certainly the less chaotic, that I hate how forgotten he is.

And that's another reason why I want him to appear soon, (as well as Alys whose casting auditions have actually started) because we will see their dynamics and how he could be the glue for their relationship, because out all of them Daeron was the one who protected the family the most while flying with Tessarion and he loved his nephews, he wanted to avenge Maelor.

Also if you prefer it in the platonic way as well as I, Daeron then would be the living proof that you can love a nephew and still want to avenge him, so there wouldn't be necessary to say Aemond is the father of Helaena's kids as we will see Daeron loves them fiercely too.

Alys would definitely be a great introduction to magic in HOTD for sure and that is why I’m excited to see how they handle her character.

In terms of that love triangle, it’s not my cup of tea. I have no idea what they will do with Aemond in terms of love interests and while I admit that some shippers make a fair point, I just don’t see that happening. But I guess people do it mostly for fun and not cause they expect it to happen in the show. It adds a layer of drama that translates to soap opera and I 🥶 especially with blood & cheese…

Yes! I saw the news! Glad they won’t leave Alys out but, as I’ve stated before, I have no idea what they will do with their relationship. There are certain problematic elements to it, but we shall see 🤔
