Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Last, but not least, Eighteenth is Fairy!
More info under the cut.
Ah, Fairy! Another screaming about 'what pokemon do i choose' and constantly changing it. When I realized Fairy was going to be last, I decided to give her some Legendaries/Mythicals. Magearna had already been a contender from the jump, going back and forth between Fairy and Steel as a choice. Zacian I'd brought up once or twice, but I initially showed reluctance because, if I brought it in, I wanted to bring in Zamazenta, too.
I got over that eventually. Zacian was literally a last minute choice, in the end. I do not regret it. Once again, thank you MMD Pokemon riggers for my life I would not have been able to figure out the dog's damn shapes without you.
For the character designs, I knew what I wanted to start. I wanted a devil & angel motif. The devil/imp theme I had figured out immediately. I could envision it perfectly. The angel one... not so much.
I thought I had it figured out when I thought of Princess Peach and her in Sunshine. I could envision it clearly. Almost like a magical girl, but not quite. Big flowy ribbons in the back, tiny little angel wings, pastel colours, and this sparkly, translucent skirt & sleeves underneath the main dress
Tumblr media
I hated it. It didn't turn out how I wanted at all. I didn't do the concepts in order, so I said I'd come back to it later and see if I changed my mind.
Later came, and I had not changed my mind. I still hated it. To google I went, looking up cute fashion ideas when I saw an outfit that hit me like a truck and gave me the immediate inspiration for the final design, which turned out perfectly. I still got to keep the Sunshine Peach inspiration under the jacket.
I would post the inspiration photo here but I can't find it anymore. It was mostly the jacket that inspired me lol. It had big ol pockets that made me think "you could fit a plushie in there--WAIT A MINUTE"
Now, Fairy was optionally going to be the final image. There was one I wanted to draw afterwards, but it was always a maybe, and that was to make something for the Stellar Type, introduced in Scarlet/Violet!
I got the concept art down, but by the time I'd finished lining and colouring all of the other pictures, I was extremely drained, burned out, sick, and absolutely dying of pain. Damn you chronic pain for making my hobby hurt.
Instead of making a new post, here's the concepts, and the sketch for the final illustration for the Stellar type!

Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Seventeenth is Steel!
More info under the cut.
Ah, steel! I knew I wanted Tinkaton for SURE, whether it was Fairy or Steel, I didn't know. As you can see, she ended up in Steel. The second 'mon I kept changing my mind over a lot. I really loved Mawile, but also Magearna, but ooh what about Gholdengo I could use that here, but also -- etcetc.
When I was sketching out the sketch for the final illustration, I felt I needed something to like... better match Utau's design. The better match ended up being Perrserker! Sorry, Mawile. You were very close and ilu tho
For the character designs themselves... I thought of a lil knight right away. Simple and easy. They already did it with... that one Elite 4 dude, I forgot his name, but, whatever! When I thought of the helmet and it having steel drills in place of her pigtails though I laughed and had to do it.
SV's design was actually considered for Fairy!! I drew it as just a standard lolita dress to begin with and wanted her to be more of depressed fairy type kinda thing until I was like "yknow... this might fit steel better actually". Gave the dress a metal frame with spikes and there ya go. I feel the execution in the final illustration is a bit lacking, but I've never been good a giant, poofy dresses like that. I did my best!

Sixteenth is Dragon!
More info under the cut.
THE POKEMON CHOICES *SCREAMS*
When I had only one Teto in mind, I was SO ready to use Miraidon, like absolutely 100% on board the Miraidon train. I was SO certain they wouldn't use Miraidon for Miku... And then they did. And I was upset.
I went back and forth between a million choices, and a lot of them I couldn't pick still because Project Voltage already did. I was struggling. When I decided to draw two Tetos, I just said FUCK IT, I'll break my no repeating any Project Voltage choices rule and do Koraidon and Miraidon because it's perfect
Anyway Koraidon and Miraidon got changed literally last minute because I could NOT draw those fuckers. They were too shaped for my brain--Koraidon especially. It just looked so bad. Anyway I like the apple guys they're funny and work just as well.
For the character designs I uuhhh. I went full anime. That's about it. I want more dragon trainers to have claws. Imagine Hassel with claws please. Absolutely perfect.

Fifteenth is Dark!
More info under the cut.
The Pokemon choices! These were once again a selection I struggled with a lot. I'm too lazy to throw out all the Pokemon I'd considered. I changed them again last minute because I'd had Incineroar and Meowscarada, but wanted to cull my overabundance of Gen 9 mons (best Gen don't @ me).
I do like the choices in the end! Fun fact, the canvas for the final illustration was going to be much smaller when I first started it. These were the only 4 to actually fit in the box without issue, which is another reason why I liked the choices.
Tumblr media
Don't have much to say for the character designs ngl! They were pretty immediate ideas and I really like how they turned out.

Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Fourteenth is Ghost!
More info under the cut.
I initially had Shedinja as the Ghost Pokemon for the longest time! When I realized I was going to draw 2 Tetos, it still stayed for one of them, while Mimikyu was chosen for the second. Eventually, Shedinja was removed for Gholdengo, who I thought was more of a "gimmick" Pokemon comparatively. Then, I changed Gholdengo to Gimmighoul when SV's design was finalized.
For the characters themselves, I had an idea for Utau in mind immediately. Big giant chains. Very big loose clothes. I thought it might be a little too much though and was thinking how I could change it until I got the vibe I wanted. I stumbled across some Halloween sketches of another OC of mine with her as a creepy doll and was like "THAT'S THE ONE". Got to keep my big poofy sleeves! That's what I wanted the most!
For SV, it took a little bit of time before I got an image of a horror movie that didn't exist with a widower at a funeral with glowing red eyes under her veil. With the design in mind, I changed Gholdengo into Gimmighoul so it was like that was what she received from the will or whatever.

Thirteenth is Rock!
More info under the cut.
Ah, the Pokemon choices! Diancie had always been my first pick when I was only going to do one, and then I added Minior, and I don't think they ever changed. Easy! Except I really wanted to use Aurorus and I'm so made Miku stole her from me I love that Fossilmon u don't understand aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
For the character designs, I knew I wanted Utau to be an astronaut with a jetpack like right away. I wanted to keep it simple and readable, and I knew I didn't want a giant space helmet. Then I remembered Steven Universe and as like "YEAAAAH THAT"S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT" with the inspiration as it hit lmao
SV also started with Steven Universe inspired roots. It still exists in the hair, but the initial concept kinda... didn't work out. I'm still not the biggest fan of how the design turned out myself, but I don't hate it or anything! She reminds me of someone in a Saloon in a Spaghetti Western for some reason?? Am I the only one?? Am I crazy?

Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Twelfth is Bug!
More info under the cut.
For the Pokemon, when I only had one choice, I picked Beedrill because... Drill. I wasn't very excited to do it though. When I decided to do two Tetos, I removed Beedrill and just tried picking what I thought would be fun, and then I thought of the past/future theme, so I went with Slither Wing and Volcarona.
They were the choices for the longest time, until I wanted to cull back some Gen 9 choices to make things... a little more fair. Some Gens still got less rep but whatever. I had Shedinja on my list for a long time so that ended up being the replacement for Slither Wing. The replacement for Volcarona I kept hesitating on. Eventually, I picked Vespiquen, because I otherwise had NO Gen 4 representation.
I really wanted to pick Masquerain, it's one of my favourite Bug Pokemon, but I like Vespiquen, too! You can see a lil Masquerain in the book SV's reading as a lil easter egg, I guess. :)
For the character designs... oh boy I struggled, man. I initially just threw down... whatever I thought of. I was doing something completely unrelated when I suddenly had a thought out of nowhere about a Teto with a hood on her head and giant orb eyes staring at you while she plays video games. Giving some more thought to it, I based her a little big more off of Penny from Scarlet/Violet and gave her a Pokemon bag. Venonat was the best choice cuz it's just a fluffy lil guy!
For SV, I struggled a lot with it. I wanted to give her a silhouette that made it look like she had a lot of arms, hence why I wanted 4 drills of hair. I toned it down a little bit and tried to just make it more of a... casual dress. In the end, the shawl/sweater/I don't know what it'd be called was to emulate a shell/wings. That was the best I could think of tbh.

Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Eleventh is Psychic!
More info under the cut.
Psychic!! For the Pokemon, I initially wanted to have Chimecho! Lil friend!! But, when I decided to do two Tetos, that changed pretty fast. I kept changing my mind on SVs Pokemon until I ended up on Cosmog. I'd already had the idea in mind before I drew it out. I didn't want the Pokemon I picked to influence the designs (that includes Fire, that was just perfect tho tbh)
For the designs themselves, I was going off of my disappointment from the actual Psychic design for Miku in Project Voltage. Not that it's a bad design, it's cute, but it doesn't... look like a Psychic type to me, imo. Even now when I think of it, I think it's the Normal design.
But, yeah! For both Tetos, the ideas were almost immediate. Magician & S P A C E.
Magician for Utau because why not. The skirt+tights were removed for pants for a better silhouette. The tophat was removed because I didn't want it to read like Utau was SV, since SV has an accessory on the left side of her head/hair at all times.
I just finished Pokemon X for the first time late last year, despite having the game for over a decade, and I was absolutely enamoured by Olympia's cape and Gym design. Very pretty. I love space. While drawing, I thought the design felt a little empty, and I was thinking about Persona 3 and angry about Reload and excluding Kotone (the female MC from P3P), so I added in the Tarot Card number she had as her pin in her hair. I thought it was XXI when I did the phone doodle, but corrected it in the final, as you can see lmfao.

Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Tenth is Flying!
More info under the cut.
I knew I wanted Salamence as the Flying type because Bagon starts off as a flightless lil guy that dreams of flying, and then it DOES, and Teto dreamed of becoming a diva, and then she DID. Tis perfect.
Jumpluff was literally picked at the very last minute while sketched the poses. It was going to be Crobat for so long, but, despite being simple, I could not get those shapes working out so I just looked through Flying types, saw Jumpluff, and was like "yes. I like that".
For Salamence I had to trace over the shapes of official art to figure it out. It's very particular lmao.
For the characters... I can't remember if I struggled with the ideas, or if I knew what I wanted right away. I could not tell you. It's a blur. Either way I'm sad I forgot Utau's pin in the final image, but I was sick while rushing to get them done, it's fine.
I wanted SVs outfit to look a lil more like Britney Spears' from the Toxic PV until I rewatched it. I completely forgot what that outfit looked like omg. Also why was she just fucking dancing practically naked in a white void. Thanks 2000s.

Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Ninth is Ground!
More info under the cut.
For the Pokemon, I initially picked Excadrill because... Drill. I'm not a big fan of the Pokemon, but... Drill. There really weren't a lot of Ground Pokemon that I liked. I really wanted to have Flygon, but Miku already took it and I didn't want any repeats.
I kept going back and forth between a lot of Pokemon like Gliscor, Garchomp, etcetc... and then it hit me. Quagsire and Clodsire. Duh.
For the characters themselves, I struggled. Looking at the official characters didn't give me much inspiration. I ended up with cowgirl initially because of Clay's big ol hat but I wasn't feeling it. Then, I thought of farmer and was very excited. I was also reminded of Joan and Daisy Mae from Animal Crossing and was like "YESS".
Unfortunately, I had to get rid of the giant basket of veggies on her back, it just completely ruined the silhouette. I replaced it with a little drawstring bag instead. I was going to add a little design to the bag but never thought of one, but the plain works just fine.
For SV, literally all I could think of was "biker". I wasn't really feeling it to begin with at all and decided to come back to it later. When I came back to it later, I decided to draw that over-the-shoulder shot to figure out how the logo would work on the back by tracing over a picture of Groudon. Anyway, that over-the-shoulder shot cemented the design for me and it ended up being one of my favourites.
I axed the Groudon design because even tracing it on my phone was absolute hell. Groudon is shapes I do not like. So I looked at all the Ground Pokemon again and was like "what is simple and will not kill me".
I picked Trapinch in place of me not being able to use Flygon, and Phanpy because tiny cute lil elephant. Yaaay :D

Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Eighth is Poison!
More info under the cut.
For the Pokemon, Garbodor was picked almost immediately. When I decided to draw 2 Tetos, the second poison choice was Glimmora. It stayed Glimmora for SO long until I tried to cull some of the Gen 9 'mons out because they had the most out of any Generation.
I was very sad to get rid of Glimmora. The next choice was Naganadel, but I could not figure out how the fuck that thing worked. It was such simple shapes, but my brain could not wrap around it, even after tracing over it to figure it out.
Gengar was chosen literally at the last minute after I sketched out some SV poses for the final illustration. In all of the poses, I gave her a giant grin. Gengar had a giant grin. Good enough for me!
For the character designs itself, Utau's was immediate. I knew I wanted SV to be a scientist in some capacity, and I scrolled through a lot of scientist character designs until I got enough inspiration for my own! She has brightly saturated orbs in her hair and on her jacket because I remembered that a lot of poisonous/venomous animals will have bright spots to warn you that they're toxic. Or. Whatever. I don't know science, I almost failed.

Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Seventh is Fighting!
More info under the cut.
Ah, fighting! I knew IMMEDIATELY I wanted Iron Valiant. When I added the second Teto, I was scrolling through all the choices and saw Kommo-o and was like "oh fuck yeah" and that was that. There were a couple of other choices I brought up, Falinks and Annihilape, but they didn't last long.
For the characters, it was a little hard coming up with something! I don't think I've mentioned it yet, but I also was looking at official Pokemon trainers of the certain types, and it was just... very hard with Fighting. They were like... all the same, for the most part; people that punch & kick. The only odd one out was Korrina, a roller-skater.
That got me thinking like, "okay... well what other sport can I do... hmmm... hmmmmm..." and then I had the thought of Tony Hawk's underground with the bangin soundtracks and wiping out and smacking people with a skateboard, and that was that for Utau. It was done. Set in stone. Immediate idea.
The skateboard itself didn't make it into the final picture because I wanted to make it have a very grand design on the bottom of it, but I didn't have time to make it so I just omitted it completely.
For SV though, no other sport I thought of really made me go "yes, that's it", so then I just started thinking "what do I find cool". Then I thought of Wind Waker Ganondorf and that was that. I realized it might be a little too similar to the existing fighting Miku after I drew it, but, whatever, double swords are cool😤

Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Fifth is Electric!
More info under the cut.
When I planned on only doing one Teto, I picked Ampharos as the Electric Pokemon cuz I like it. When I decided to do 2, Raichu & Alolan Raichu was the immediate and obvious choice for past/present.
For the character concepts, I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to do with Utau. I had the idea immediately. I struggled a lot with SV. I knew I wanted her to be more of a model to mirror Utau's Idol, but I just... couldn't find much of anything for inspiration.
You can see that the initial phone concept changed a lot in the final. I wish I'd been able to make the hat as big as I wanted it to be, but it just looked... bad. The little "ears" on the hat were by accident, but I thought they were cute so I kept them.
I was trying to find fashion shoots of clothing inspired by lightning storms or something for inspiration and got next to nothing. Most everything were hoodies or pants with images of lightning storms printed on them. How boring.
I knew at this point I wanted SV to look like a lightning storm somehow and I was like "well what does a lightning storm have? Big... dark clouds..." so then I was like "big puffy dress thing" and there we go. For having nothing to work off of, it's fine enough for what it is! I don't hate it! I still enjoy the design! I just wish I'd been able to do more, I guess.

Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Fourth is Grass!
More info under the cut.
For the Pokemon, I went back and forth on these ones a LOT. I kept going back and forth between Celebi, Shaymin, Maractus, Bellossom, and Meganium. Maractus & Bellossom were only chosen around 5 days or so before I actually started drawing the sketches for the full images!
For the 'theme' for the characters, I actually really struggled for a long time. I made an attempt with SV as a cute little gardener, but I wasn't really feeling it, you know? I had absolutely NO ideas for Utau. I had a pose sketched out that was just a body standing with one leg propped up on a rock. It wasn't helping.
Then I had the idea of a ballerina with the skirt/tutu/whatever as flower petals. With that in mind, I thought, "what can I do that's similar for Utau" and made her a pop dancer! Her hair being so low and thin in the curls was actually made by accident when I was doing the concept, but I liked it enough to keep it.
Utau's blue tones were also going to be more pink/red to start, but I changed it because then she felt too similar to SVs skirt, which was now based loosely on Vileplume's spots.
Fun fact: This was actually the last image I drew! I was going to do them all in order, but I wanted to do my best to finish in time, so I pushed the ones I thought would be easiest to the back of the line so I could get the hard ones out faster. Anyway, that didn't pan out. I was still late pff

Since y'all are sleeping on my Tetovage masterpost, I'm going to post them all individually with extra tidbits of info and there's nothing you can do about it!!
Third is Water!
More info under the cut.
For the Pokemon, I reaaaaally wanted Suicune, but then I realized A) I'd have to draw it, and B) I'd have to draw it. I also did keep going back and forth between it and Milotic. In the end, Milotic won out because it also fit the theme of Pirate tbh.
Originally, SV was going to be a model, like Nessa, and was going to be wearing a dress inspired by a mermaid. It was going to be very colourful, like a prism light, but I also just... wasn't really feeling it to begin with. I knew what I wanted from Utau immediately, I just had to decide what Pokemon I wanted as the raincoat. As you can see, Psyduck won out in the end. It had been the first one I imagined.
I kept going back to water eventually and then I realized "PIRATE" and there we go. The Jellicent idea didn't work out, so I replaced it with what were supposed to be waves but then just turned into... that.
I thought of the final SV concept way late into me doing the phone doodle concepts and when I'd gotten the hang of it. I went back and redrew Utau's concept when I made the new SV design, which is why the first concept looks so bad comparatively.

Second is Fire!
More info under the cut.
The Pokemon were so easy to pick AND they matched what I had in mind when I decided to do 2 Tetos instead of just 1! How could I not?! When I had just one Teto in mind, I had picked Scovillain.
Also thank GOD for people that rig Pokemon models for MMD so I could pose and stare at them and trace over their shapes to figure out how the fuck they WORKED. Without that I would have cried and given up lmfao -- there was no way I could visualize them otherwise.
I completely forgot I gave SV a fan in the initial phone doodle concept. I attempted to bring it back in the final image, but I didn't care for it anymore so I simply removed it.
The theme for this one was... well... uh... fire. Pff. I wanted them to be opposites so Utau was a lot more hot-headed while SV was a lot more elegant and calm.
