As we venture further west,  we pass threw the gateway into the dry land of the unrelenting sun and away from humid, moisture rich air of the south. The part of the country where the heat gives no quarters and enacts its toll upon all. Where the blue, wide open skies that stretch from horizon to horizon give no solace to the endless golden brown landscape that reaches far beyond sight. We drive on.
We drive void of the creature comforts of mechanically cooled air, in a vehicle made of nothing more than rubber and steel. With only two windows the air that passing threw at 80 miles per hour feels like breathing in the hot air from a giant hair dryer. Yet we drive on.
