Ok 1920s war au, anyone?

They met in college, Q’s first year and Bonds last before departing to the navy. When James is away they send each other coded love letters and trinkets. All of James’s comrades think he’s some kinda celibate and poke fun at him for never joining them at the brothels. All while he has a picture of Q kept snug in his vest pocket that gives him plenty enough company, thanks.  

When James is due home, Q waits for him at the pier with coffee and sweets from their favorite little shop. It usually ends up on the ground however in their haste to hug and swing each other around like the sappy couple they are ♥
