ceecee i hope u know what u have done. u have given me permission to go absolutely feral on main and i for one thank you
tbh tropes is kind of a broad term so i feel like this list is going to be all over the place lol but here we go:
Childhood friends to lovers and any variation thereof [or as I like to call it: a classic. e.g - Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes from Captain America because i’m a basic bitch]
Friends to enemies to lovers i.e the above but with fifty times more angst and pining [only if it’s wlw though. e.g - Catra/Adora from She-Ra]
Guard/royalty relationship dynamic or any parallel [it’s about the ENDLESS DEVOTION. e.g - Sabran/Ead from The Priory of the Orange Tree except even better because Sabran doesn’t even KNOW Ead is protecting her]
Found family [i’m queer idk what to tell you. e.g - many many things but the one i’m thinking of off the top of my head rn is the Evangelista house in Pose FX]
An ensemble cast of very talented individuals pull off a heist i.e competency porn [e.g - ocean’s 8]
The homoeroticism of sport [DO NOT @ ME stories about team sports are GOOD ACTUALLY you have the friendship and the team work and the feel-good morals and the not-humanly-possible feats of athleticism that make you scream WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT. e.g - haikyuu, i would also like to plug this webcomic i’ve been obsessing over the last few weeks called Midnight Furies which is like the webcomic version of sports manga but has canonical lesbians in it]
Cross-country roadtrip except it’s an allegory for coming of age and self-discovery [e.g - i’m going to say On A Sunbeam by Tillie Walden counts because they’re basically having a roadtrip but in space]
Idk if this is a trope really but specifically when kid’s stories really delve deep into the trauma and fucked up things that their kid characters go through that is the good shit [e.g - steven universe future]
also don’t know if this is really a “trope” but period romances that specifically focus on the disparity between your Public Self and your Private Self, the self behind closed doors as it were [something about the metaphor for emotional repression, the conflict b/w propriety versus the true self, the intimacy to be found in letting someone through the closed door, etc. etc. e.g - the seven husbands of evelyn hugo]
Water As A Metaphor for Rebirth [I’M A LIT MAJOR OKAY WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME. e.g - literally every gay movie ever]
Ask me my top 5/10 anything!
