you lurk on discord. you are in massive servers. you hate it. big. messy. overwhelming. Ping Ping Ping Ping. @everyone all the time. notification overload. you mute everything.
you keep joining discord servers, because they're useful. you still don't like them. you lurk.
you see how they can be useful. you still don't like them, but now you have Opinions. you say, "if I had a discord server, I'd do it this way". you say, "these discord servers here are run really well, but I would change this and that to make it better".
one day, you join a group. someone in the group says, "we should make a discord instead of emailing back and forth". you agree, sure, one single chat on discord is kind of like a FB messenger group chat. that's reasonable.
a discord is formed. conversation happens. you realize that coordinating events would be easier if there were separate channels for the events. you realize it would be useful if there was an information channel. you present this to the members, and everyone agrees: yes, this would be useful.
no one else knows discord, though. no one else is willing to undertake and learn the task. no one else understands roles and permissions and channels and and and
you offer yourself, because "I know how to keep it simple" and "I've been in many giant servers" and "I know what works and doesn't".
you are now a discord admin.
you still don't like discord. you wonder if this is where you were always going to end up.
#discord#should have seen the signs#thanks to all the massive scanlation servers for being so organized and yet#so chaotic that it mafe me mute absolutely everything but announcements#i hate that you brought me to this point#no i did not do this to myself shut up
