Also it's soo funny to me when ppl rally against plastic surgery and then at the very end of their lil rant go "obviously I'm not talking about MEDICALLY NECESSARY surgery" like a) ur the one lumping together a wide and varied type of surgery here and b) super fun to be an afterthought in this conversation :)

#its also funny that 'small child had to get their face put back together after an accident'#is never really. considered by these types.#like theyll list off all the surgeries they consider to be medicaly necessary and never think #that some plastic surgery patients are 5 years old and going through a deeply traumatic event.#pediatric plastic surgery is a WHOLE area of medicine that is not really discussed.#ppl with plastic surgery are assumed to be adults #i was FIVE YEARS OLD. i missed my KINDERGARTEN GRADUATION for my surgery.#there is a scene of a tv show i otherwise like. where they poke fun at a facial feature i have had since i was F I V E #bc its apparently something thats common in ppl with plastic surgery. which i did not know until i watched the show.#i didnt know to be self conscious of that. i didnt know that people might look at me and know/assume something abt my medical history.#anyway. concersations abt plastic surgery NEED to have nuance. they NEED to consider all angles.#they NEED to think about the scared kindergartener getting their face put back together.#there are important conversations to be had about elective surgery and the culture that drives it im not denying that.#im just saying we need to be careful not to write off non-elective plastic surgery in the process.#we need to have compassion.
