The weird smell - it was musty in there
The creepy creatures - there were cats that lived in there

As you might have noticed from my astrology/tarot content, I am very wary and specific about how exactly I handle love readings for the members since my top priority has always been respecting their boundaries.
I completely understand the itch we can get to know a bit more about them and their personal lives as they are celebrities but I refuse to strip them from their privacy and human sides, opting to keep away from most of their most private aspects of life like some other tarot/astrology content creators do.
Now, I am very much aware of the fact that you can easily get a too intimate look into their lives elsewhere so by all means, I’ve always encouraged everyone around here to be sure of the type of content they would like to consume and advise on doing so consciously.
I like to think that my main differentiator with other content creators of the like, is that I always have and always will prioritise that the content you guys get from me is accurate and unbiased, 100% not about the clout and as educational as I can get it to be, by being very transparent and respecting the artists’ personal boundaries.
Please remember that us readers do not have explicit permission to access celebrities energies and even less so to get the info we might read on out there so we mess with something a bit bigger than us when done correctly.
It is also important to note that when it comes to love readings, it is even much more delicate. And I’m being brutally honest here.
I can’t use astrology on a celebrity’s current or future s/o if I don’t know who they are. I can’t possibly come to know the exact date of birth/place of birth using only the celebrity’s chart and somehow whip out a synastry. Surely, the celebrity’s chart might show signs of astrological archetypes on generalities about the type of person they might benefit from or would be a nice fit for them, but it isn’t a future telling method nor is it guaranteed as there’s a lot of other factors to be played.
When it comes to tarot as a divination method, it’s faulty. Tarot can only be used as a reliable source for the future up until 6 months after the reading. Even more so, it is difficult to read on significant others as the archetypal source of energy is the same for s/o, spouse, or any other situationship + when it comes to celebrities it’s so hard to tell on their love life’s future simply because there are so many people around them manifesting them and pushing a lot of energy their way.
Now, what I actually CAN deliver to you guys in terms of love readings (and I have and continue to do so) are love readings which information I get I can assure you is high quality and veritable, which have to do with how love as an archetype/as a general concept relates to the artist.

3. Not checking Amazon Renewed
Amazon Renewed sells rebuilt and refurbished pre-owned items, including laptops, smartphones, smartwatches, cameras, computers, monitors, power tools, and more. Amazon says that all Renewed merchandise is “tested and certified to work and look like new.”
There is a caveat: The products have no visible cosmetic imperfections to the naked eye when held 12 inches away.
Amazon Renewed is worth checking out. Products come with at least a 90-day guarantee. The guarantee may be longer depending on the product, maybe up to six months. If your device malfunctions or doesn’t work as expected, you can return it or get a replacement.
But, and here’s the big but, the product’s description must state that it’s “Backed by the 90-day Amazon Renewed Guarantee.”
Here are a few laptop deals that I found:
Looking for a Macbook? This Renewed Apple MacBook Air has an 11.6-inch screen, Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, and 128GB SSD. It’s two years old, which is fine and is half the price of a new Macbook Air at under $500.
Want Windows laptop? This Renewed Windows 10 Pro Dell Latitude has a 14.6-inch screen, Intel Core i5-6300U, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD priced around $450. 
If cash is tight, I found a Renewed Samsung Chromebook with an 11.6-inch screen, Exynos 5250, 2GB RAM, and 16GB SSD for less than $200. 
It’s worth noting that eBay has a new Certified Refurbished marketplace. Here, you’ll find brands like Microsoft, Acer, Lenovo, Hoover, and Philips selling goods backed by a 2-year Allstate Warranty. If you do buy, know there is only a 30-day return window.
Best Buy and Apple also sell refurbished items on their site.
4. Get a Peloton without the cost
I love my Peloton bike, and the variety of classes and instructors’ personalities have been my sanity saver throughout this pandemic. But it’s over $2,500 by the time you get the bike, shoes, mat, heart monitor, and delivery fees. Add to that the $40 per month fee to take the classes.
To get almost the same experience, load the Peloton app on your phone or tablet to use with your own stationary bike. You get all their live and on-demand cycling classes, including those off the bike, such as yoga, strength building, and running. After your 30-day free trial, the Peloton app costs $12.99 per month.

It’s finally time...to talk about Clarke + Manipulation: Part 1
Part 2: Bellarke
The “finally” in the title is in honor of @wellsjahasghost, who almost literally has been waiting for this meta for years.
So, over the course of my time in the 100 fandom, I’ve had many Thoughts about Clarke’s use of manipulation in the narrative and, just as important, fandom’s responses to this character trait/these instances of manipulation. So I wanted to take some time to discuss what I think are some misconceptions about Clarke’s use manipulation in the narrative, what it means for her character development, AND what it means for Bellarke (which will be in a separate part 2 post). 
Disclaimer: As usual, this meta was written entirely for my own (and Jade’s) benefit, and isn’t a response to anything in particular or an automatic dismissal of rival perspectives or even a guarantee that this is the interpretation I will stick with in the future. It’s just a fun discussion I (and Jade) felt like having about Clarke and Bellarke before s4, so feel free to take it or leave it!
Disclaimer 2: I am NOT talking about manipulation in this meta as an inherently bad thing or as something I think the narrative /should/ condemn! I think that’s kind of a limited perspective, and I’m more interested in the details of how this trait actually manifests in Clarke and her relationships than how it /should/ manifest or if it’s capital-R “Right.” I’m gonna mention this a couple of times throughout this meta, but truly it can’t be said enough. When it’s okay to manipulate (for the greater good v. for personal gain? for your people’s good v. all people’s good?) is outside the scope of this meta. I’m more interested in how the narrative treats Clarke’s manipulation (in part 1) and how this trait plays in Bellarke’s relationship (in part 2).
To start, a couple helpful definitions of (interpersonal) manipulation:
1. to control or play upon by artful, unfair, or insidious means especially to one's own advantage 
2.  to manage skillfully and especially with intent to deceive
*you’ll notice that these definitions imply the inclusion of intent/motivation, which is an inherently subjective thing to identify in a character so that’s definitely something I’m keeping in mind!
I think Clarke’s penchant for manipulation is a really fascinating part of her character. It gives her so much power - it has since day 1 - and it has both been an unapologetic part of Clarke’s political repertoire but also, at the same time, a power she never really asked for. Clarke has, over the course of the seasons, become more comfortable with manipulation as a tool and ostensibly has learned to use this power she has for good - to protect her people. By the end of s3, however, I do think the narrative is challenging us to ask ourselves whether Clarke has come to stretch this power and take it too far in violating people’s ability to fully consent to a situation. This progression, whether it’s purposeful, whether it matters, and what I think about it are what I’m gonna talk about in this section through looking at several scenes (Note: These are not the *only* scenes where Clarke uses her powers of manipulation, just the ones I had something to say about.).
Classic Clarke: Getting What She Needs

1x02 “they’re thinking only one of us is afraid”: In this scene, Clarke plays Bellamy like a fiddle and immediately alters the power dynamic in their relationship. It is one of the first and best examples of Clarke’s intuition when it comes to getting people on her side. She’s already using the source of the legitimacy of Bellamy’s power against him: the mob. The mob only follows him because he is “less afraid” (lol they have no idea) than them and gives them what they want - so she threatens to undercut that legitimacy to ensure she has a gun on her team when she goes to find Jasper. It’s a brilliant scene for Clarke’s character and also establishes the pattern of Clarke and Bellamy constantly re-evaluating their impressions of each other each time one of them does something the other doesn’t expect.

1x10: This is a tiny scene but I wanted to include it for a couple of reasons. One is that this is one of the last times Clarke manipulates Bellamy in their partnership. The thing is though, I’m not even sure how successful Clarke’s “manipulation” is in this scene. She convinces Bellamy to let Clarke keep Octavia in quarantine ostensibly by saying “think of it as another way to keep her from sneaking out.” That sentence is deceitful because Clarke plans on having Octavia do just that - sneak out - but it is manipulative because Clarke is playing into Bellamy’s (rather problematic) s1a wish to keep tabs on Octavia to get him to agree to have her in quarantine. 
But the thing is, Bellamy has basically already agreed to Clarke’s reasoning before she says this line; Clarke would have gotten her way (Octavia in quarantine - her sneaking out was never gonna be ok) whether she’d tried to “manipulate” him or not because they’re coming to the point in their relationship where they trust each other’s motives and judgments enough to let themselves be swayed by the other. I suppose the halfheartedness of Clarke’s manipulation attempt here could be brushed off as her exhaustion from sickness, but I really think it’s a key indication that both she and Bellamy are weary of playing that game and that Clarke is starting to see Bellamy as someone to depend on, not someone she has to manipulate to her side. More on bellarke + manipulation in part 2.

Okay I’m covering these all together because I think they’re representative of many instances over the course of s1-s3 where Clarke uses manipulation to try and achieve a particular end, and the narrative doesn’t really question or challenge her methods. I think up until some scenes in s3b that I’ll talk about, the narrative treats Clarke’s ability and willingness to bend people to her way of thinking through manipulation - ranging from deceit to lies of omission to strategic selection of context - pretty neutrally. The show has historically been good (barring some glaring examples) at presenting character’s actions (especially Clarke’s) in a morally-neutral light that allows the audience to engage with the narrative and decide right/wrong/what they would do in Clarke’s shoes for themselves. 
I myself have never had an issue with Clarke’s penchant for using manipulation because I see it as a kind of morally-neutral trait and she is always using it for the betterment of her people and not for individual gain. I’ve also never agreed with members of the fandom who believe people “romanticize” this trait of Clarke’s. Tbh, I think Clarke’s manipulation IS a praiseworthy character trait to the extent that it’s a gutsy trait to give a main female character that you want your audience to root for. Traditionally, femininity + manipulation = the boogeyman of the patriarchy, and so it seems like every female villain ever is manipulative, and most female “heroines” we’re supposed to root for are naive/honest/earnest (often to a ridiculous extent) or otherwise nonthreatening when it comes to manipulation. 
Clarke + Consent: A Lesson to Learn? 
But of course it wouldn’t be the 100 if they didn’t ever challenge assumptions about what is right and wrong, and which side of that line the main characters are falling on (obvi they do not always execute this balance well, but I still want to talk about what’s going on with Clarke in 3b).
So there are a couple scenes in 3b where Clarke is called tf out by the narrative through characters like Niylah and Luna (who the audience is supposed to Trust) about how her manipulation can border on coercion and rob the people she interacts with of the ability to consent. Let’s take a look at two of these instances.

So basically all of us know that 3x11 is the Episode of Clarke (and everyone tbh) Getting Called Out. But I think a particularly interesting moment (one that @metastation podcast also talked about in their 3x11 podcast, if I remember correctly) is at the end of the ep, when Niylah admonishes Clarke after she finds out that Bellamy was involved in the Trikru massacre.
Niylah basically says to Clarke here: you robbed both Bellamy and I a chance to decide on this issue for ourselves, the opportunity to maybe rise above it or deal with it in another way because you didn’t want to risk me not helping you. And I think Niylah’s point is interesting for 2 reasons: (1) She basically articulates the risk/reward calculation Clarke makes every time she manipulates someone. Which is: what is the risk they won’t do what I want/agree with me if just give them the bald-faced truth? And (2) the fact that the narrative points this out through Niylah signals to me that we the audience should question whether Clarke’s gauging system for the risk/reward calculation has become a bit too skewed towards “the end justifies the means.”
3x13/14:

Okay so Clarke’s interactions with Luna are great imo because they truly span the gamut of Clarke + manipulation. This first scene at the end of 3x13 is what I like to call Manipulation Lite™ when Clarke basically just whitewashes the journey she and the chip have been through to get to Luna, as well as glosses over the details of the state of the Commandership itself.
Except Luna knows what the fuck she’s about and it’s definitely not being warlord to a culture that made her kill her brother, so Clarke’s attempts fail. And so we move to 3x14, where I think things get both interesting and confusing as far as Clarke’s moral/manipulation “arc.”

In 3x14, specifically the scene where Clarke tries to force the chip on Luna, it’s really the first time I can remember that Clarke’s willingness to twist situations to her advantage full on graduates into physical coercion. Clarke can see that there is no way to convince or manipulate Luna into taking the chip and, desperate as she is to save humanity, she bypasses any semblance of allowing Luna free will.
I think this is really interesting because the narrative definitely isn’t supporting Clarke whole-heartedly in this moment: the scene becomes an ode to how badass Luna is, how mentally strong her pacifist ideology makes her, and the considerable lethal skill that lurks beneath her peaceful beliefs. When Luna puts Clarke on her back, the audience is like “damn, get her girl!! sorry Clarke you deserved that!” Luna isn’t framed as selfish or mean or inordinately violent for putting Clarke on her ass; in a sense the narrative sees that she’s justified for resisting this coercion.
But here’s where things get confusing. The narrative doesn’t defend Clarke’s decision in 3x14 but in 3x15 and 3x16 it doesn’t really follow up on it. In other words, the narrative doesn’t really address the implication it makes in 3x14 that Clarke went too far. I thought the moments with Niylah and Luna were meant to contribute to an arc about Clarke learning that she needs to respect free will more than ALIE does in order to beat her. But as far as I can remember, there’s not another instance where Clarke can choose between manipulation/coercion and free will and she chooses the latter, which would have been a fitting closure to the arc. 
So am I crazy for thinking that this arc is something that exists? Maybe, but I don’t think so. I mean, as much as I don’t love the show framing its moral arcs in the mouth of Octavia, especially after 3x10, she articulates the Free Will Problem in 3x14:

“Even ALIE gives people a choice.” Basically all of 3x14 is implying that the Sky People in general, and Clarke in particular, have some work to do where free will is concerned. And so one would think that this “work” would come before our protagonists ultimately prevail in the finale. But it really doesn’t seem to. I have a couple possible explanations for this. I tend to think the answer is a little of both. (1) is lazy writing (possible with so much other stuff they wanted to fit into the finale). I think (1) has merit because the writing makes a couple weak passes at the Clarke x free will arc in 3x16 during these two moments:

These are two moments in the finale where Clarke gives some impassioned lines on free will. And clearly free will is something Clarke values, but these scenes are interesting in juxtaposition with the lengths Clarke was willing to go to to get Luna to take the chip. Does she regret that decision now? If she could go back would she make the same choice? The answers to these questions are unclear. As much as the writing on this show tries to get us to questions characters’ decisions, I think there is a tendency towards hypocrisy sometimes, and I’m wondering if this is one of those instances.
Clarke only goes “too far” (as defined by the narrative) with her manipulation-turned-coercion  when she feels like there is no other choice. Is the narrative suggesting that Clarke’s desperation excuses the coercion in 3x14? If so, why did the narrative frame that scene as Clarke “going too far?” 
(2) The more satisfying and, I think, convincing conclusion about the poor landing of Clarke’s Free Will arc in s3 is because it is a theme that will feature in s4.
Right after the second scene screenshotted above, where Clarke asks ALIE to give people a choice about whether or not to leave the COL, Becca answers Clarke’s plea by telling her that ALIE literally cannot offer the people in the COL. “Her core command is to make life better,” Becca says. And allowing the residents of the COL to choose for themselves would contravene that core command. Is it just me, or does this draw a parallel to Clarke’s, like, entire storyline? 
Clarke only ever does morally questionable things for the good of her people, and barring that, the good of all humanity. But at what point does working towards the greater good matter if it involves robbing people of their free choice? This seems like the fundamental reason ALIE as a concept doesn’t work: she doesn’t allow people to choose their own destruction, to opt out of “salvation,” and so she is forced into perverse instantiation to save humanity. To me, this is an extraordinarily interesting theme to introduce before season 4. To what extent will Clarke (and Bellamy) choose to let people opt out of salvation in s4? How far is Clarke willing to go to coerce people into making the “right” decision? And far can she go until she, like ALIE, commits an unacceptably inhumane level of perverse instantiation? The idea that s4 might be a lot about free will in the face of the apocalypse is a very real (and very exciting!) prospect to me. I think it would set the stage for some truly wonderful character moments, for Clarke and for everyone else.
Part 1 Conclusion
I love Clarke Griffin. I think Clarke’s manipulation makes her interesting, and it makes her CLARKE. It’s the other side of the coin from her ability to empathize so deeply with people, so deeply that she knows what to say to get them on her side. I’m really glad I wrote this meta because, even though it might bore some of you Bellarke diehards out there (part 2 is for you I PROMISE), it helped me work out some of my thoughts and feelings about Clarke in 3b going into season 4. And ultimately I’m excited at the prospect of seeing the growth of a possible Free Will Arc, both through Clarke as a character but also as a larger theme of the show.

This is How to Do Bargain Shopping While Traveling Abroad
Who loves a good souvenir? Who hates spending an arm and a leg on purchasing said souvenir? Bargain shopping while abroad can be one of the most fun and satisfying things you do during your travels. Why? Because even though, when you do all the monetary conversions, you’re not paying that much in dollars, you want to get a fair price for where you are. Plus, who doesn't love a challenge?
I can’t tell you the number of times that I’ve gone shopping in India and come home with what I think is a great deal (i.e. I spend 11 dollars on a hand-carved stone elephant) and my aunts and cousins are immediately like “you overpaid!”
The issue with being a foreigner is that you’re a target for scams and cheats.  While at the end of the day it may not amount to a lot of money for you in your own currency, you don’t want to continue traveling with unfair deals. This is especially true on long trips as your money will run out super fast.  Plus, the whole point of shopping abroad is to get authentic items, locally made and sourced, that the locals themselves buy. In this case, you should also pay the same as the locals and get the same deals.
What does bargain shopping entail?
When I speak of “bargaining” I mean “haggling”. This means that you don't have to, nor should you, pay the price you are given. Not all areas allow for this, but for those that do, it's important to know how to bargain with shop owners. There are techniques and know-how to doing it properly and getting the best deals possible, which is what this blog post is all about.
What can you bargain for?
If you're in an area that allows for bargain shopping, you can price haggle for any item being sold there. This includes food, clothing, accessories, and decorations. The exception to this is food items being sold at food stalls for you to eat; other food stalls selling spices or packaged goods, you can try your hand at bargaining. Shop owners may deny you, so in those instances, you won't be able to haggle, but it never hurts to try!
So how can you try for the best bargain?
I’d like to share some general “rules of thumb” when you go bargain shopping in foreign countries.  Of course, if you’re in love with an item and can afford it in your own currency, and are willing to pay, then go for it. Bargaining for a better price, in that case, is less of a concern as your focus will be on obtaining what you want. I don’t think there’s a replacement for something you love or can see yourself actually using. But for all those other items that you’re interested in, that looks cool, or small items that you are trying to purchase for the purpose of gift-giving, you should bargain.
A big part of looking for deals, and getting them, is knowing where to shop and also HOW to shop.
First rule: Ask the locals where they go
The key phrases here are, “where are the popular local markets?”, “which markets are best for souvenirs?”, and “which markets will allow me to bargain?”.  You want to find anything related to markets, night markets, weekend markets, etc. These markets are generally set up outdoors with stall after stall of random commodities.  The beauty of these markets is that if you like something at one place, and the shop owner won’t bargain with you, there’s pretty much a guarantee that you’ll find the same item in another stall.
In other words, you don’t have to get stuck in one place.
Second: Be nonchalant
Don’t act too interested.  If shop owners know you really like something, they’ll be less willing to negotiate down on price.  They know that you’ll eventually cave if you show a lot of interest.
Third: Know where to start your haggling
Ask the price and expect it to be at least double of what they would offer a local.  Yes, double (even triple depending on the item and how interested you are). A good place to start is at half of what they ask, and don’t be afraid of offending them.  Think of how offended you are that they are overcharging you!
Another good way to go is to calculate how much they are asking in your own currency.  If it’s higher than you’re willing to pay, then figure out in your head what you WOULD pay.  Then, take that number and start a bit lower with your bargaining.
For example, the hand-carved stone elephant I purchased in India: their starting price for me, in their local currency of Rupees, was about Rs 1200 (approximately $18); I did the conversion in my head and decided that I would pay no more than $12, which translates to Rs. 840. Thus, I started my bargaining point at around $8, or Rs. 560 (if I remember correctly, my actual starting point was Rs. 500). At the end of it, I walked away after paying Rs 800, or $11.
As you can see from my starting point, it is a little less than half their original asking price. So you can jump to that, or do the calculation in your head as above so that you have a range that you are comfortable with. Of course, the price you decide that you're willing to pay is also contingent upon what you perceive is the value of the item you are buying. If you think it's a great piece and worth paying a little more, then your job becomes a bit easier and the whole process will be faster.
Another thing I'd like to point out is the savings. In our dollar currency, the amount saved isn't all that much; however, in the local currency, I saved a total of Rs. 400. In India, Rs 400 can go towards a meal, public transportation, or tickets to an event. So for purposes of maximizing your cash when you travel, bargain shopping for those few American dollars can actually go a long way.
Fourth: Bundle items for a better deal
Many shop owners will be more willing to bargain if you tell them you’re buying more than one item.  I like this technique when I see that they, for whatever reason, are unwilling to budge; in this case, I’ll take a look around and see what else I can get, and ask them to ADD something and then I’ll pay the price they’re asking.
Back to the elephant, if they are stuck on a price of 18 dollars, then I would add another item, a fan/pen/pendant/wall hanging, whatever I can find that is of interest, and say “ok, I’ll pay 18 dollars if you include this item”.  If you can't find anything else of interest to you, then I recommend purchasing two of whatever it is you are bargaining for. The extra can serve as a gift for someone else!
Fifth: Just give the amount of money you’re willing to pay
I have actually done this.  Sometimes shop owners get really stubborn, and I, too, am unwilling to compromise. So what I have done is just take out the exact change for the price I wanted to pay for the item and handed it to them and said, “ok, done”.  And it worked!
If this sounds strange, just think about it. It is hard for a shop owner to turn down cash in hand. They will not be running after you to return your money just in order to demand more.
Sixth: Walk away
This is very important: don’t be afraid to walk away.  If they are being ridiculous or uncompromising, remember, there’s another stall probably not too far away, or even another market you haven’t explored yet, that has the same product.  Half the time, when you start to leave, they’ll call you back. Keep walking and wait for them to drop the price.
If they call you back, then stop and turn around, and repeat what YOUR price is.  If they disagree, turn back around and walk. More often than not, they will call you back and give you what you want.
This goes hand in hand with not being too interested.
Seventh: Try to shop with a local
If you know someone living locally or have a tour guide willing to help you, then definitely utilize those resources.  First, ask them what the typical cost, or fair price, is of consumer goods and souvenirs. You can use their feedback as a starting point and as a way to vet different shop owners. For instance, if a seller gives you an exorbitant price as compared to what you were told to expect by your tour guide, then you know to just walk away; don't even bother bargain shopping with that seller.
Even better is if you can get your guide to help you with the bargaining process. You’ll get much better deals as they'll be able to help you with pricing the items, and shop owners will know that they can't get away with cheating you if a local is on your side.
I do recommend that you exercise some caution with this approach. Even if you ask for help, be sure to still follow your own instincts. I have heard of several stories detailing how shop owners and tour guides sometimes work together. In that case, it is in their best interest for you to pay a higher price, with them splitting the profits.
So, if a deal doesn't feel right or you think something is going on, then just walk away. You are not obligated to purchase anything just because a local is helping you.
Eighth: Do your due diligence
Make sure you inspect the items you are purchasing very carefully; remember you are a target, and there’s no return or exchange policy at these markets. Before you make an offer or start the process, do your inspection. Look for defects and determine how you feel about the quality of the item. Sometimes finding a small defect can help with your bargaining and you can use it to further drive down the price (assuming that its a defect you are okay with having).
Sometimes, based on how you feel about the quality, your willingness to haggle will shift, and the price you are willing to pay will change. Again, trust those instincts.
Ninth: Don't pay until you're certain
Even after you come to a conclusion with your bargaining and settle on a price, do a quick mental check that you really want and are comfortable with what you're paying. As I mentioned before, there are no returns, exchanges or take-backs. I've been in many situations where I've regretted my purchase after the fact. In each of those instances, I was not 100% sure about the price or the item.
Nothing is final until you pay; so do not pay unless you are certain.
Bargain Shopping Final Notes
Be careful
Be on the lookout for scams. Basically, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. In addition, if someone claims to have “great merchandise” and they start leading you into an alleyway, or some stand-alone warehouse…don't go. Listen to your instincts and play it safe. No local product is worth it, no matter how much of a bargain they promise you.
Don't make promises
I mentioned this earlier as well, before you pay, examine your merchandise. You are getting it super cheap, but that doesn't mean the quality has to be bad, or that you have to put up with defects. Also, don't promise to buy anything until you've seen it and touched it. Don't hand over money until you've had a chance to do your due diligence.
Protect your belongings
Many of these bargain shopping markets are crowded, and in a third world country, many are poor. Take care of your wallet. Don't hold anything out for people to grab; don't keep your wallet in your back pocket; separate your money–keep some in your wallet, some in your front pockets, some at the bottom of a bag.
Dress casually
Hand in hand with protecting your belongings is leaving all your valuables in your hotel safe, and avoiding fancy clothes. The richer you look, the more likely it is that you will be scammed.
I'd also recommend that you wear comfortable closed-toe shoes. In a crowded market, you will get stepped on. In addition, the location of some of these markets is on side streets and alleys that are not paved and full of potholes. It's not fun. Your feet will thank you.
Count the money
After paying for an item, if you are expecting to receive any change in return, count what you are given back and make sure it is correct. I've caught many mistakes that way. It may not translate to a lot of money for you, but it is your hard-earned dollars and you want it to go as far as possible when you travel, so be diligent and watchful.
Packaging
Make sure they wrap your purchases for you properly.  You have to travel with your items back, and you don’t want things falling apart, or to lose pieces of your purchase.  If they don’t make moves to wrap your items, ask them to. They should not charge, and you shouldn't pay, for good packaging. All of that should be included in the price of your souvenir.
Have fun with it
Many shop owners abroad thoroughly enjoy meeting tourists. If you encounter some that are friendly and inquisitive, then go with it. Get to know them, crack some jokes, ask questions about their merchandise and how its made. Your curiosity may get you a better deal AND you'll likely learn something about local culture. Plus, you'll make that shop owner's day. A win-win.

Employees want their leaders to care for them genuinely. They want to feel respected. And, the employee wishes for their thoughts and concerns to be listened to with kindness. The best way to sharpen these leadership skills is by boosting emotional intelligence. Increasing your emotional IQ will help you become more self-aware, empathetic, and a better communicator. As a result, you’ll build a strong rapport with your team.
4. Extroverted leaders are preferred.
What’s the difference between extroverts and introverts? Most people believe an extrovert is how they act in social settings. Extroverts are thought to be more outgoing and confident. Introverts are considered shy and withdrawn. However, being extroverted or introverted has more to do with how we process information.
Extroverts work through problems by discussing them and seeking the advice and input from others. Introverts process their thoughts and conflicts internally. Because of these differences, it shouldn’t be surprising that extroverts are drawn to leadership roles. Being a leader means engaging with other people, right?
The reality is that not all extroverts are cut-out to be leaders. A lot of successful individuals, such as Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, and Marissa Mayer, are introverts. Just because you’re not the head of a department or comfortable in crowds doesn’t mean that you should sell yourself short. You may still possess the right leadership skills to inspire others.

5. There’s not enough time to develop leadership skills.
As with any skill worth having, it takes time to develop. Using the “no time” is a poor excuse. We all have the same 24-hours in a day. And, we’re all swamped. Somehow, plenty of other leaders can deepen their leadership skills without a problem.
The problem isn’t that there aren’t enough hours in the day. It’s that you aren’t managing your time correctly. For example, waking-up 30-minutes earlier, batching related work, or delegating less critical tasks to others could free-up extra time. You can then use this time to read, take a course, or work with a coach or mentor.
6. Leadership is synonymous with management.
Assuming that leadership is synonymous with good management is another common myth about leadership. Adequate direction and guidance cannot always be equated with a good commander. There are some reasonably significant distinctions between these two roles, such as:
Leaders create a vision; managers establish goals.
Managers maintain the status quo, while leaders are agents of change.
Leaders are self-aware and unique. Managers copy others and adapt and adopt others’ leadership style.
Managers control or avoid risk and problems, while leaders are willing to take risks.
Leaders keep focused on the big picture. Managers work on short-term goals.
Leaders learn something new every day; managers rely on their existing talents.
Managers build systems, while leaders construct relationships.
Leaders coach; managers assign tasks and provide guidance.
Managers have employees. Leaders, on the other hand, have loyal and dedicated fans.
If you have a team with multiple or complex goals, it’s important to know the difference between leadership and management. You can then develop either your leadership or management skills — depending on which you’re lacking. You may also want to consider finding someone to complement the skills that are scarce.
7. All leaders are trailblazers.
Being a trailblazer isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Trailblazers, after all, are ambitious, competitive, calculated risk-takers, and goal-oriented. At the same time, they’re also an independent and the driving force behind a business. An independent and driving force can make working with others a challenge.
For example, while you’re out impressing clients, investors, and customers through speaking engagements and pitches — there’s no one back rallying the troops. While trailblazers can definitely get people to jump on-board with their vision, leaders know when to step back. A true leader or manager will recognize talent and work alongside this team in order to propel everyone towards a shared mission and vision.
8. My team members always tell me the truth.
They may not be lying to you completely. But, your team is probably only giving you half-truths — especially if you are a hard character to deal with. You may be a complicated, emotionally depleted individual — thus it should be easy to understand why you have problems being a leader. If an employee shares bad news with you and you overreact, then why would they open up to you again?
Your employees should be able to be 100 percent transparent with you — but if you punish them, do you think they’ll repeat that same mistake? It’s not always easy to hear the truth. But, without all the information, you can’t make a more informed decision — nor can you grow as a leader.
To encourage your team to tell you the truth, build a culture of calmness where you control your emotions. What’s more, focus on what to do next instead of pointing fingers and giving people a second chance. Make it easy to receive and provide feedback. Think about furnishing an online survey or focus groups conducted by a third party. When you have an outside source for company “tips” that ensures anonymity — so that a team member doesn’t have to be afraid of repercussions.

9. The best leaders roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty.
Obviously, “getting your hands dirty” doesn’t mean hiding in your office. There may times when you should be working side-by-side with employees — as long as it’s on the right activities. As a leader, you should be primarily focused on tasks like decisions, priorities, and accountabilities. Non-leadership tasks should be automated, delegated, or outsourced so that you’re not draining yourself mentally or physically.
Remember — lead with your work and not by prioritizing the work of others.
10. Leaders must always be “on.”
Finally, there’s a misconception that leaders are must be “on” 24/7/365. The truth is that everyone, regardless of the leadership position, needs a break from work. Checking your email throughout the weekend or when or vacation is a guaranteed way to burn yourself.
You need time away in order to reflect and focus on what matters, such as spending time with your family, exercising, or learning new information. By taking breaks, you can clear your head and de-stress. As a result, you’ll become a more energized, focused, and creative leader.

WHERE THERE’S A WILL . . . THER’S A WAY!
Purchasing an expensive asset that you need for your business doesn’t have to hold you back or be an impossibility. Whilst for you that could be anything from a printing press to a car or even a commercial building, whatever the challenge, there’s always a way as long as you have the will!
Let’s look at some of the ways my customers have raised finance to buy one of our ovens to get their business off the ground. And I’m sure you’ll agree there is no doubt that there’s been massive growth and interest in real wood fired ovens along with the pizzas that are cooked in them, and that the real wood fired oven revolution is now in full swing.
About time!!!
That said, there are still a huge amount of people who are shocked when they enquire about the price tag associated with a high-quality oven. That price tag can be prohibitive so owning one is still very much an elitist thing.
But it need not be so.
Over the years I have personally helped 100’s of people enter the market. For many the investment seemed a gamble, but on reflection it became a life changing event and, in the overwhelming majority of my customers, this has been a positive thing.
In the past, taking the leap has been akin to extending the mortgage, or enduring the eye watering interest rates associated with a credit card purchase, or suffering the uncomfortable encounter with a less than receptive bank manager.
But enduring this was worth the hassle as the rewards, when calculated correctly, can be astronomical.
Now I’m going to have to be straight; I’m not a financial advisor so don’t put your life savings at risk or dive into a long term re-payment scheme without making sure that you have taken proper legal advice from a registered financial advisor before embarking on extending a line of credit.
So, rather than give you the facts and figures associated with repayment percentages and margins or the nitty-gritty of who owns an asset and at what point it becomes yours, I’ll concentrate on and share with you stories of how some of my customers have financed their business and the purchase of an oven to get their dreams off the ground.
Many of them have gone on to win awards and become the best in the industry and celebrated in their regions for outstanding produce.
Friends & Family
I remember one of the first mobile ovens I sold was to a crew of Italians who were setting up for the festival scene and, having put down a deposit, I made their oven on a trailer. Come collection day they arrived with no fewer than 10 different credit and debit cards and a whole host of parents, friends and family. It took over 2 hours to process all the cards at different values, but before handing over the trailer, I thought it prudent to get a copy of a passport. . . It’s fair to say I was worried.
The customer has gone on to be very successful and in total had 3 ovens off me. Friends and family investing in your business is one way of getting some unsecured finance; low risk to you and spread wide so as to not be a burden to any individual.
Credit Card
I also remember a young lady coming to see me about 8 years ago; she had a real passion and wanted to change her life. Unfortunately she had no one to turn to, no one to support her, but was determined to make it work: ‘private parties at an affordable price for everyone’ was her angle.
She paid for the whole trailer on a credit card then went hell for leather to get it paid off as soon as possible. Her business has also been a huge success and the high interest rate was a real incentive to get out there and get stuff done and pay it off quickly.
Cash Purchase
I have, however, also had customers who have sold businesses and used the money from the sale of the business they no longer enjoyed running to set up something new and fresh.
But I must warn you that buying an oven outright and owning one is not the same as running the business; I’ve had many customers who have purchased outright only to go on and get average returns. I believe that getting a bill once a month to pay off encourages you to get off your arse and get stuff done; work begets work.
On the whole, access to finance is a lot easier than it was 20 years ago.
Bank Business Loan
You could take out a business loan with the bank, but, having sought financial support from the high street banks several times, I personally find high street banking a complete joke; months to set up accounts, forever changing bank managers, and managers who have no real understanding of business at all. So, should you decide to approach the bank and they say no, don’t give up; just because your bank said no doesn’t mean that every bank will say no.
I recollect when I first started my business, I had to approach loads of them, after all, who in their right mind would have ever thought that making pizza ovens in the UK would be good business!
Bank managers, in the main, have targets to achieve and seem not to know anything about setting up or running a business but are more interested in seeing if the gearing is acceptable to the computer model. Our businesses, street food catering and restaurants, don’t conform to the norm of profitability and just don’t seem to fit their computer model.
Asset Finance
So instead, for bigger purchases, I’ve found asset finance to be a much easier prospect with lower interest rates than credit cards or bank loans. Sometimes I’ve managed to get the loan secured against the asset with a deposit paid, other times I’ve had to give assurances for low incomes and new businesses.
There are so many asset finance brokers now that it’s mostly actually quite easy to get a loan of sorts; if you are considered a higher risk, then the repayments are steeper, but you still have freedom to choose.
Funding Circle
There is also the growing trend towards crowd source funding. Loads of people have gone on to build successful businesses with finance raised through these platforms and, much to the surprise of many, you don’t have to give away equity in your business, some platforms you simply pre-sell your product at a discounted price.
Passion, a good video and story seem to be key. In the research that I have done so far, it would also appear that you need to have your ducks in line before you launch, in other words you need to have lots of people willing to back you, and you need to almost have all the funds committed already by a network of supporters and their friends. The platform then is just a formal way of them committing the funds.
There are loads of different platform types: some where you give away equity, others where you give away products or service.
So, you really need to dive into these sources to find a platform that works best for you.
There is also the government backed system funding circle; you may have seen them on the TV. I have used this myself and found the process relatively easy, but be warned, they claim very low rates on TV, I’ve never heard of anyone who got rates like that. They also say ‘unsecured loans’, so be careful because when you get the loan you will, in most cases, have to promise to pay it back and whilst they don’t formally attach your assets to the loan, they still require you to give a personal guarantee which could mean your assets.
The one thing that I have learned over the years is that you need to know the figures before you go in search of funds. Make sure you have a robust business plan with a good understanding of what revenues you can expect and what the breakeven figures are going to be.
Always have 3 scenarios:
A breakeven model which must be easily achievable and appear to be a no-brainer.
A higher figure which is most likely to be your average trading.
and a blue sky thinking kind of project.
And you must know your figures inside out, with the answers to hand.
If someone is going to lend you money they will want to know that you have a good handle on the figures. If you don’t believe me, check out a couple of Dragon’s Den programs and see how applicants who don’t know the numbers get sliced and diced by the panel.
No, it’s quite easy: – be prepared and have the facts to hand.
