I like to imagine my apprentice as having a rat familiar. but not like one of those cute domesticated ones, one of the big ones that are nearly 2 feet long and hang around in sewers and subway stations.

they probably found it sick and dying on the side of the road and felt bad, so they magic-ed it healthy and now her name is Jojo and she's a lovely rat familiar that will not hesitate to bite people.

i just love the contrast of my graceful apprentice who has a sparkly half-cape and fancy magic, and then their familiar is just a literal fuckin sewer rat.

I just dug up a bunch of stuff I drew back when I first played The Arcana in 2021, lol. It’s wild how much my interpretations of the characters have changed since then… time really does fly. Ha… yeah… Julian was my first route, wasn’t he…🥹

I had so much fun redrawing Jay and revamping their lore.

Jay is the apprentice at the start of the game. They have an insatiable curiosity for the world around them and is constantly getting into shenanigans. In fact, Jay lost their eye sight in a magical accident that they can no longer recall (they may or may not have traded their eyes to the Fool in exchange for a favor that will come in handy when the plot unfolds). Scout, their trusty companion and guide has always been keeping Jay out of too much trouble. Asra and Jay met nine years before the start of the game. Jay had just arrived in Vesuvia to continue their magical studies and Asra made for an excellent companion. One thing led to another and they fell in love.

The rest is kind of history.
