yeah that’s so real 😭😭😭 psych is one of the most concentrated case studies i’ve ever seen where not only is the white man cop singled out over the ensemble of other cops but he’s ALSO singled out over BOTH OF THE ACTUAL LEADS (one of whom is a black man, the other of whose character is white but himself is both white and hispanic) who are NOT COPS. like okay you’re just showing your whole ass then

#i’m sure it happens in like. brooklyn nine nine etc as well. but at least in that case as i understand it #its ALL cops. so like. that’s just standard white boy fandom focus unfortunately. but my god #anyway yeah i find the fandom focus more analyzable than the show cop presence bc they’re working w/in a genre and time of constraints ykno #whereas these mfs. need to do some self introspection.#where i DO find show cop presence analyzable is with the like dvd commentaries with both steve franks and james/dule #because steve franks will be like “haha funny joke” and james/dule will be like “i did this based off of my own awareness/experiences and #played it straight by virtue of being serious about those awarenesses/experiences and the show frames it as a joke within the larger joke #of the cop related circumstance”#the best example of this i remember is in earlyish season one when shawn and gus get pulled over but shawn is driving #gus puts his hands on the dash when the cop (buzz?) comes up to the window #and in the commentary steve franks is like “i thought that the funniest thing i’ve ever seen” “ive never seen anyone do that” etc #and i was sitting there listening to him and thinking to myself. you are a white man. writing a black character. and never stopped to think #that that scene breaks from being gus to being dule reacting as he’s had to his whole life??? as any given black man has to????#like hello??????#i don’t know if he got better or if anything changed about that over time obviously that was 2006. but that stood out to me #as an example of the show creator himself just Not Thinking #about something systemic and very much in need of consideration. if you’re gonna make a show containing elements of it.#but whatever
