ngl i hate 'proving the bullies wrong' redemption stories where the victim becomes gorgeous, successful, rich. that's not proving them wrong. if anything it's proving them right.

bullies don't bully people because they're ugly or fat or poor. it's their choice to be cruel, to decide that people deserve cruelty if they don't meet some standard of attractiveness or wealth or intelligence or other bullshit social standard.

it doesn't stop being deserved if it turns out the bullies targeted them mistakenly and they weren't ~actually~ ugly, or fat, or poor, or aren't any more. it was never deserved.

#bullying #like even if you are attacking someone for being a bad person & also being fat #it doesn't work #bad people are bad because of their choices to exploit and abuse others #the fat/unattractive bad people aren't somehow worse than the thin/attractive ones #they're all just bad #(this can even work with your own perception of being bullied - or otherwise harassed/abused/etc #trying to prove you're not whatever they said you were to prove you didn't deserve it #when you wouldn't deserve it even if you were #the hypothetical person who embodies that trait doesn't deserve it #no-one does)#dk if the parenthesis bit is what drives some of the bullied people going on to bully #either 'well if i deserved it you do too'#or 'let's find another excuse for cruelty that i'm not implicated by to prove i'm worthy'#or 'i didn't deserve it bc i'm not x but you are'
