What if the world hates cursed people alongside magic users?
Like, originally, people were accepting of them and only feared magic users but as the fear grew into hatred and became more and more extreme, people started to fear and hate cursed people as well? Still, they are more tolerated then magic users, but they aren’t exactly accepted anymore in a lot of magic-phobic places. Cursed people aren’t executed or chased out as often—or really at all—as magic users are, but they face a lot of hostility. The Wonders from the Jury are no exception to this treatment, but they are respected! They have respect, but only because of their job.
As long as the Wonders are useful, they have respect.

headcannons about the Jury because I have Heartless brainrot
-this is probably a given, but the Jury are a very politically involved organization. they are often seen in the common political discourse around witches and even in general politics.
-Alastor used to be completely right handed, but after his curse took hold in his entire right arm, he forced himself to use his left. This made his handwriting suffer quite a bit though.
-‘Lorelei’ is only a stage name, nobody knows what her ‘real’ name is and she is certainly not bringing it up any time soon.
-the Wonders are actually not supposed to kill people. the job of ‘punishing’ witches is actually allocated to another branch of the Jury called the Executioners. Alastor is the only Wonder to actually follow this rule.
-the Wonders’ actual job is to capture witches who cannot be dealt with through regular measures
-Dock actually doesn’t have glass in his mask anymore, since Lorelei accidentally broke his first one while they were all still new to the team. Instead, he now uses a transparent plastic in place of glass lenses.
-all of the Wonders have mommy issues, except for Lorelei, who has daddy issues.
-Alastor used to love learning about space and black holes when he was a kid, so he would jump at every opportunity he could to know more about them.
-Dock has his doctorate degree hung up on the wall next to his bed. whether or not it’s real is a subject of mass debate among the other Wonders, and Dock thinks it’s extremely funny to keep them guessing.
-Alastor used to have a very heavy accent (I have not decided which accent yet but definitely some flavor of european) but has since polished it out in favor of a posh english accent. But, the old accent does come out sometimes when he’s very drunk/emotional/etc.
-Lorelei, Alastor, and Diana all technically have two jobs within the Jury (as a Spokesperson, Judge, and Hunter respectively along with being Wonders), but Bandy, Dock, and Lance’s only jobs within the organization are as Wonders
-a ‘Judge’ is a member of the Jury who is on the council of people who decide witches’ fates once they are brought into custody. Alastor is ‘extremely honored to work as one’. not much is known about the specific Judges, not even by most Jury members.
-a ‘Hunter’ is a member of the Jury who specializes in finding witches and taking them into custody. Hunters are a subgroup of the greater group within the Jury that is the Knights. They are some of the biggest thorns in the Magistratum’s (is that how you spell it? 😭) side to ever exist.
(that’s all for now but I’ll probably do more lol)

So a while back I came up with an au in which Dock gets redeemed before Heartless takes place, moves into MOJO, and basically becomes the village uncle. Decided earlier today to just start writing. Finished writing today as well. Enjoy, it's bad :)
Anyways, Heartless and its characters belong to @abd-illustrates, I honestly hope you don't see this notif because seriously I cannot write.
Also I should note that because it's Dock centric, I'm going off of headcanons almost entirely. Sorry everyone.

Feodore Boucher
Tumblr media
Picrew
Occupation: Host for The Jury
Date of birth: 3. March 1732
Age: 291 (physically 25)
Principles: Heart, Moth, Grail
Status: Alive and taken
Spouse: Elios McCoy
Nationality: French
Species: Humanoid
Race: Half siren, half zmey
Residence: Wolf Hollow
A flamboyant and talkative young lad, Feodore is the soul of any event he finds himself in. His personality swings wildly from loud, sassy, and ready to throw hands, to calm, sweet, and soft. Regardless of which face he's chosen, he's always attentive and affectionate and willing to help his friends, but to most people, he's nothing more than a loud drama queen who can't go a minute without cracking a sex joke.
Feodore's cheerful disposition is in spite of all the bad things plaguing his life. Due to his less than good relationship with his family, he established contact with his Verdugo very early on.
Soon after he entered the Rift, he was chosen to serve as a host for The Jury. The Jury is the second of the three children of Shuggor that make up the Sacred Triad. Due to poor negotiation skills, the Triad was banished into Cunomin'estia and had no access to the rest of the realms. So they settled to find a host that would bear their manifestation and allow them to at least influence the Rift. In the case of The Jury, that host ended up being Feodore.
The Jury's manifestation within him presents itself as twelve personalities. Here, I'll show half of them since Tumblr only allows for 10 pictures per post. They're not meant to resemble any identity disorders - they're technically not part of Feodore, and they will alter the body's appearance to match them.
Thomas and Tomas
Tumblr media
These twins' behavior is both identical and identically different. Their speech patterns, habits, and behavior are largely the same. They are very apathetic, showing only the bare emotional minimum that is required. Thomas and Tomas represent the pride, secrecy, and hidden hostility of the Lock principle.
Hector
Tumblr media
Hector is friendly and curious, but also rather reserved. He tends to ask questions that most would consider invasive, but he probably doesn't mean anything by it. A surgeon by heart and allegedly by profession, Hector has a curious relationship with blood and viscera - he is simultaneously obsessed with it and repulsed by it.
Lenore
Tumblr media
Perhaps the more murderous side of Feodore, Lenore is usually gloomy, but she finds happiness in misery - she's joyful whenever she or anyone else is unwell. As previously stated, she is very fond of murder and dismemberment and takes great joy in hurting others without their knowledge.
Balius
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Balius is chaotic, whimsical, and easily distracted, but they are seemingly always where they should be. While they don't seem to resonate particularly strongly with any Moth aspect Celestial, due to their connection to a Moth's chaos, their behavior can only be described as "the things only a Balius does."
They are more comfortable at night and don't sleep anymore - they don't need to. They love dying their hair.
Soren
Tumblr media
At first, Soren is sweet and kind, but as time goes on, their mental state gradually deteriorates. Random thoughts start slipping out of them during conversations that contradict what they've previously said. Almost half of the time, they're delusional thoughts and warped memories that don't belong to them or never happened at all.
A curious event occurs when Soren is dominant for at least six days, as they aren't stable enough to remain out for this long. The longer they linger, the more confused they become. During the sixth day, they will try to eliminate everyone around them in a fevered attempt to protect themselves.

The Jury Headcanons
- Due to the violent nature of Carcer City, the gang considers themselves vigilantes, taking care of the scum of the earth despite they were working for the scum of the earth.
- The members are made up off-duty cops, concerned dads, and angered veterans.
- No one escapes their wrath. Not the criminals, their partners, and especially their children who bare the blood of the guilty.
- A lot of anger issues are treated by murder, of course.
- Great hatred for the rest of the gangs, rivalry made well when they show off a few corpses to signify territory.
- They see nothing wrong with what they’re doing, nothing at all.
- A few of the men fight but often end with a few bruises and cuts along the way.
- A few sleep on the job, as annoying as it is to Starkweather, they still do it.
- They sharpen their tools, more often than not, parade around how sharp the edges are of the blade.
- Don't get me wrong, they’re horrified by how brutal their actions go, but for the sake of their family’s future, they have no other choice.

now that my jury duty is over and i can legally talk about my jury duty, a short list of things that i have learned about jury duty:
when the judge wants to sidebar with the lawyers they turn on a static noise machine for the jury. this is very like the experience of being trapped inside a television
sometimes they load the entire court -- judge, lawyers, court reporters, jury, etc. -- onto a bus and take you all on a little field trip to see a crime scene. this is very like the experience of being in elementary school
when you are on a jury field trip you May Not share a seat, you May Not speak, and you May Not look at anything you have not been officially told you can look at. this is very like the experience of being trapped inside a point-and-click adventure except that instead of being limited in your investigation by the constraints of the game mechanics, you are instead limited in your investigation by the court officers herding you around like ducks with their long wooden Official Court Staffs
no matter how much an FBI agent may encourage the court to call him kevin, the court will not call him kevin

An idea for Dock and Diana's backstories.
Diana's village was burnt down by the Jury, but she was told the Magistratum did it. She joined them at a young age and pretty much grew up as a Jury Scout. She was, for lack of a better term, a Scout Captain by the time the Wonders were formed.
Dock was first hired as an engineer in one of the Jury's branches, unaware at the time that it was the Jury. After an incident in which Dock's workplace was broken into, Dock was moved to the knight division. At first he decides he'll try to sabotage their work, but unfortunately, he was too good at his job, moving up the ranks quickly and soon forgetting his original goal. He was later moved back to engineering after an injury to one of his eyes in battle, to then become a Wonder when the cursed divisions were created.
(Diana's courtesy of @key-boardsmash, or at least the village thing and the lies)
