i appreciate it when people from anglican countries say that they shouldn't assume that people from non-anglican countries who live in their countries will have a stereotypical accent from their native countries. but sometimes i will encounter people acting like accents simply do not exist and that is very funny to me. ''why does this character who has newly arrived to america from korea have a stereotypical korean accent that's kinda racist :/'' bestie idk how to tell you this but somebody who has lived in korea their entire life has a stereotypical korean accent T_T

#i mean i live in india and i have a stereotypical indian accent! just like raj from the big bang theory!#one time i saw a bunch of english people had a discussion about whether it was racist that the creators of a show #had made a chinese character have a chinese accent #they came to the conclusion that because that particular scene was set in china it wasn't racist #which. i mean i really do think that was cute it showed that they cared #i only find it funny because how hard is it to be normal about accents? like really it is so easy?#maybe i just assume that because i speak in at least three different accents on the regular?#but no that's basically just code switching i'm sure almost everyone does that #idk man. i guess i'm saying that while accents most certainly do get used in media in ways that perpetuate racist stereotypes #the mere existence of accents isn't racist xdxdxdxd
