Overanalysing texts isn't just for published literature, you can also do it with fanfic if you're motivated enough!
#brought to you by a fic i read having a character say 'i don't hate you'#when what they really meant was 'i love you but i can't say it'#the parallel is with corneille's le cid - a classic of french literature (which i haven't read but a lot of the quotes are famous)#see i don't know what the plot of le cid is because we didn't do it in french lit class#but midway through the main couple (i think?) are talking about their relationship#and how they love each other and how they can't be together or something#and the girl tells her guy 'goโ i do not hate thee'#obviously what she really means is 'i love you but i can't say it'#and i find it beautiful and cool and wonderful that for centuries#we've been making characters say 'i don't hate you' when they really mean 'i love you but i can't say it'#the understanding to say the opposite.... classic use of stylistic devices and speech figures in french#figures of speech? figures of speech. whatever#like... the POETRY#and i Know that the author of the fic didn't mean it like that#hey maybe i should tell them in the comments. that would be a fun thing to say#wow i have a ramble tag now#fandom nerdery
