Hi RTA,
Do you have any thoughts on why Meghan is not going on the NY trip with Harry. She’s our always there, always first girl so I’m curious about the rationale for sitting this one out.
My theory is that trip is about climate change, Africa, and conservation. That's never been any area of interest for any of Meghan's charity work or interests - it has always been exclusively Harry's thing. Unlike mental health or veterans' support (which the Sussexes do together) or feminism/"feminism" (which is Meghan's thing exclusively).
Since William's NYC trip last year was for conservation and the environment (related to Earthshot), I figure Harry's trip will be similar because anything the Prince of Wales can do, Harry can do better. Also, given the way that Harry's PR announcing the trip latched onto stories about the Earthshot summit happening at the same time also in New York and all the "will he won't he" about whether William would attend...I'm pretty this trip was designed to give Harry some credentials in the environment/conservation world so that come November and William is in South Africa for Earthshot, the Sussexes have competing PR they can do about their own work in environmentalism and conservation.
Specifically with the Clinton thing, I think Harry will be speaking as part of a panel or program on Africa. Looking at the list of participants on the website, there are a lot of African charities/organizations that will be there, including representatives of the Nigerian government (ding ding ding) and the President of Kenya...
Could Kenya be the next Sussex destination? Could be, or at the very least, it's on the short list. We know that William and Kate became engaged there and when Charles was there last year, he said "It was here, in sight of Mount Kenya, that my son, the Prince of Wales, proposed to his wife, now my beloved daughter-in-law" in a speech.
It'll be interesting to see what the Sussexes do next. We'll know rather quickly if whatever Harry goes to NYC for is successful, as they always tell on themselves with their own PR.

More notes for Roach conlanging. Roach has grammatical gender, in which only Male, Female, and Object are grammatical genders, whereas Worker uses feminine grammar, Queen and King use a slight variant on feminine grammar, and Drone, and Queen-Alate use masculine grammar. This is because King is derived from Queen, due to their similar positions in a colony, and Queen-Alate is derived from Drone, as both are forms of alate.
Queen is an alteration of feminine grammar that functionally just adds a handful of extra syllables to it, and King is an offsprout of Queen that uses the same grammar with different pronouns. Queen-Alate, despite the name, is derived from Drone, as they are both for referring to different types of alate ant.
Most Roach dialects are intelligible to speakers of Snakemouth Den Cordyceps Roach, but Snakemouth Den Cordyceps Roach is not entirely intelligable to speakers of Roach dialects due to a mix of the excessively specialized vocabulary caused by the specific needs of its speakers, the fact that its speakers do not necessarily have Roach mouthparts and thus may not pronounce syllables in a similar way, and due to the fact that Inanimate Object is a full grammatical gender that does not exist in any other dialect of roach and replaces a decent chunk of terminology for things that previously had Other Words For Them.

something that pisses me off in RA is that Flanagan will occasionally hype up Pauline as this super important and prominent figure in Will’s life, even treat her as a proxy for the mother he never knew, and yet will just refuse to show it beyond the like. two or three (personal) conversations that they have in canon. I get that he was attempting to make her an important person in Will’s life but why not do that by actually making her an important person in Will’s life
#hey Flanagan I hate to tell u but just because she’s married to Will’s father figure does not automatically make her his mom figure#what REALLY annoys me is how easy it would have been for him to connect her & will#like hey. if only there were a pretty clear gap in Will’s education that halt couldn’t fulfill - say for example mmmm diplomacy?#(cause we all know how gifted halt is at conflict resolution)#then he’d have a valid reason to seek out a master of diplomacy for lessons in negotiating compromises & treaties#but no I guess not. Yeah OK I'm mad that epsilon didn't get to talk to Tucker or wash. And I know plot contrivsnce he didn't talk to anyone technically but. I. Hm. I just. I don't like it. It's just a further continuation of the fact that after s10 they had no idea what to do with Epsilon and every scene with him feels strained as hell and it's a strain that effects all the other cheaters because if the relationship he has with them!! UGH. God. Fuck.

the hardest part of reading naruto fanfic is frankly not sorting through all the stuff i don't care about or trying to ignore awful characterization. it's trying to survive the attempts at japanese. why couldn't my special interest have been in literally any other language.

We got a DVD player from goodwill for like 2 bucks so that we can watch dvds from the library in town this is a fucking game changer I'm so excited
#We got two classic who serials season one of quantum leap and the Martian movie#Going through a scifi era right now (as if I'm not always in a scifi era)#Also got some dvds from goodwill cause they were like a buck each#AND I found a book I read in middle school but forgot the name of that I'd been thinking about for years!#Not The Book that's been haunting me but it's up there#AND a new antique from the used book store#Also I found out the family that runs our used book store is also from Houston?#I got trapped in Old Southern Man conversation with the guy at the counter#Afterwards Jen told me my accent jumped out during the conversation and took like ten minutes to fade back to my normal speech which is#Interesting. I know my accent gets thicker when I talk to other southerners I wonder if there's any linguistics papers on that. Probably.#Downside to the goodwill dvd player is she doesn't have a remote so we gotta figure that out#I thought we could use the buttons on the DVD player itself but she only has. Two buttons.#The weird thing about growing up broke in the 2000s is that we jumped straight from VHS to Netflix#And I only ever watched dvds on like. My cousins ps2 or whatever. And the portable DVD player I got for Christmas one year#Our local library also has Nintendo switch games to borrow go to your library bro they kick ass

i am once again thinking about how fucked it is that sacrificing like half to three fourths of the ships/crews to save 3 people is considered a paragon option but sacrificing about 75% of your unit to defeat the enemy is renegade. why would sacrificing thousands of people to save 3 be considered “compassionate” or “heroic” while sacrificing 75% of your unit (which is 7-14 people apparently, so like 5-11 people) to ensure you won is considered “ruthless” or “apathetic”
(i know why. its bc the first mass effect game doesnt really seem to have a grip on what it wants its morality to be much more than blue= nice, good and red= bad, mean)

i seriously don't get how any country can call itself a democracy without having classes dedicated to teaching how politics work in its schools

ohhhh how the urge to write fanfic compels me……..but the dread of writing two very distinct english voices with very distinct slang and patterns of speech repels me
#it’s a fucking TIGHTROPE WALK#I’ve read maybe 10 payneland fics now and don’t get me wrong none of them were downright Bad or anything but#but overusing certain phrases and petnames and patterns of speech and so on is So easy and can be So hard to ignore#it doesn’t help that particularly charles IN CANON uses his little catch phrases and whatever like. noticeably A Lot#so it’s not even particularly inaccurate in fics when he uses brills aces etc slightly excessively and in serious situations#but boy it can still be. distracting. from the mood and whatever’s going on in the story.#like he’s 100% the type to use ‘brills’ right after the first time he kisses edwin because his head is in the clouds and that’s the first#thing that’d pop into his head. but. limiting that tendency a bit might be a good idea. and makes the moments where it does happen much#more amusing and endearing#anyway– as for edwin… man I don’t wanna have to pay super close attention to figures of speech and such that were common in the 1910s#and using ‘is not’ instead of ‘isn’t’ all the time is kind of painful#but I imagine I could soften that tendency in more casual and/or flustered moments. it’s not like he wouldn’t pick up on modern speech#patterns at All he just wouldn’t use casual speak in most scenarios because it’d be a Bad Look by his time’s standards#and he cares about coming off eloquent and intelligent#grahhhhh I just……..I could do it but there’s certainly hurdles to jump#rambling
