Today’s scary-yet-hopeful news: Alzheimer’s is transmissible by the same vectors as Mad Cow--which includes reusing medical equipment because standard cleaning procedures are insufficient. Parkinson’s might also be similarly transmissible although it hasn’t been looked into yet.

Given how common Alzheimer’s is, and given how most people do have medical procedures later in their lives... It’s possible that a significant number of cases are now going to be preventable just by changing hospital procedures.

#the thing about parkinson's is they've identified a few genes that definitely cause it #but the majority of people who have it don't have those genes #(which is not to say that in most of THOSE cases it isn't caused by some other thing we haven't identified yet #but some of them might have caught it)#then again you can have a genetic disorder that causes something very similar to mad cow disease as well
