it hadn't taken long for the invite to come for dinner with the kennedy's. no doubt kathy was keen to get some sort of reaction from the family for ratings now that they were back and johnny was, off the trouble market, but maddox had never been good at saying no to kathy so here he was. only ever so slightly high as he sat on the lounge chair watching the usual family buzz. feeling eyes on him he should have known maddie was close, his eyes ever so slightly hooded as he lifted his head to look at her. with  filming  going  ,  caiden  found  himself  moving  into  the  cast  apartments  .  that  hasn't  kept  him  from  returning  home  regularly  , though  .  his  home  studio  having  much  better  acoustics  than  the  apartment  he'd  been  pushed  into  living  in  .  he'd  stopped  in  to  grab  a  few  more  things  for  the  apartment  ,  as  well  as  hopefully  push  out  another  song  for  his  upcoming  album  .  rummaging  through  the  kitchen  to  find  something  to  snack  on  when  he  notices  a  certain  blonde  walking  up  to  his  front  door  .  brows  knitting  together  in  utter  confusion  .  he  hadn't  seen  her  in  what  was  starting  to  feel  like  forever  and  part  of  him  was  happy  keeping  it  that  way  .  walking  over  to  the  door  ,  pulling  it  open  as  he  takes  a  bite  from  a honey  bun  he'd  managed to find in a pretty empty kitchen  .  "  are  you  lost or something  ?  "  not  the  most  inviting  welcome  but  given  she'd  ghosted  him  entirely  ,  he  felt  it  was  warranted  .

            surprise! or so had been the thought each time the door opened to the sight of anyone but maddie, leaving his posture to slouch further each time into the seat. granted, she'd likely have seen the small dot tracking his location on her phone and could see at any point that he was back, which is why it currently laid on the backseat of an uber now traveling north on the 101 — at least, he'd like to claim as much, some big plan that had little to do with his own forgetful nature. when the door had creaked open and his sister finally had been the one to walk through this time, monroe simply smiled, whatever grandiose plan once held replaced but sheer laziness. “ weclome home my favorite brother in the whole world, i don't know what i'd do without you. ” he vocalized an octave higher in a mock tone, attempting to  mimic maddie's vocal inflections  before laughter interrupted his impersonation. “ surprise. ”

he found the whole charade between finley and ethan to be nothing but a joke - whether it was p.r or both of them clearly getting way too into character, it was behind the scenes shit like that that kept poorly written teen dramas afloat - people became just as invested in their real lives as they did with the characters, and axel found all of it pathetic. he harbored no real feelings toward finley and her italian nuptials were comedic gold in his eyes - especially since she had grabbed him and kissed him in italy just days after. sprawled out on the couch in the makeup trailer after they had finished with him, he tossed a basketball up and down in the air, unable to help the shit eating smirk that spread across his lips when ethan made his way in. "taking yourself off the market when all of the bitches are gonna go crazy for your broody bullshit once this shit premiers? dumb move."
