#their aux jack can double as a stereo input!!!
Note
what do you like about cars?
I think you knew, upon asking this, that I could only ever have answered with either an ironic one-liner or a dozen-part novel. And unfortunately, this is already the second line, so novel it is. So then, without any further ado than the literal half year that’s gone by since this was asked, let's go.
1. Engineering matters
At the end of last year (aka when I started writing this, yikes) my dear old iPhone 6S moved on to a new home because it simply wasn't keeping up with me anymore. (And again, I was using an iPhone 6S in 2023. If I say a phone is too slow, it's too slow.) I had plenty of criteria for the replacement: a smallish screen not overboard on resolution, ideally a physical media control button and/or vibration toggle, repairability, a FUCKING AUX JACK... Something like the Sony Xperia 10, whose only real issue is marketing so trash you've only just now learned Sony never stopped making phones.
And yet...
Tumblr media
This fancy wallpapers-sporting foldable is a Motorola RAZR 5G, a phone whose too-big screen already broke (though at the edge due to adhesive issues) and those who dared try warn repairing it will be as hard as phone repairs get. Why the fuck did I buy this? Well, because it has something more important than the aux jack, proper sizing, and good cameras: it made me go “That’s so cool!”, and when’s the last time a phone made you say that? It's the cusp of a new technology, and whether it becomes the future of phones, a future of phones, or just a weird footnote, it is an island of interesting in a sea of boring. And sadly, even this island is rapidly sinking. The drive for new form factors has already boiled down to the same two phones and their evolution is sinking into the usual millimetric proportion tweaking, camera rearranging, touchscreen expanding, case material switching, fingerprint sensor moving, and spec improvements not even manufacturers can come up with use cases for. I mean, seriously, how does the iPhone 15 differ from a software-updated iPhone X (which is apparently not pronounced "x", so I guess the iPhone Twitter)? Nothing is new. Nothing is tackled differently. The user experience does not differ. And why should it, when iPhone users will get a new one out of habit anyway and many are so tech illiterate moving a button could hospitalize them? Five generation newer and 150% faster are numbers you basically have to trust, because they don't make a difference that matters.
But in cars? 150% faster will matter alright. Even just looking at it. Cars are a visceral experience to even witness, let alone ride in or drive, and the frantic engineering pursuits for performance and overall capability actually have impactful real world implications beyond "some pockets will bulge 1mm less". And their engineering involves so many fields that there’s always a breakthrough going on somewhere - which leads to another reason their engineering is so interesting: there’s simply so much of it that anyone interested in engineering will find something for them, no matter their level or sector of expertise! Interested in mechanics? Well, obviously you’ll have a field day! Aerodynamics? Don't even get me started! Electronics? You're getting more goods by the year! It spread from engine management to safety assists to infotainment to ergonomic adjustments to even suspension and aerodynamics! Sound design? Even just working on the way engines sound is a profession of its own, let alone making these barrels of metal and glass propelling themselves at triple digit speeds through hundreds of explosions a second things you can comfortably have a conversation in - and that's not even mentioning horns and chimes! Hi-Fi? We’ve spent most of a century trying to get concert hall sound from a tiny tin can where everyone sits off-center and everything bumps and shakes around and you have maybe room for two components* a third the normal size and speakers can only be in a handful of places you wouldn’t want them which may well be the next room over**!
And this is just engineering.
*Like everything in the car world, there are exceptions to that
**For those unfamiliar, subwoofers, the speakers dedicated to, indeed, sub-bass, due to their frequent humongousness are often installed in the trunk.

Douk Audio P2 Hifi Vacuum Tube Preamp Bluetooth 5 0 Receiver Stereo Headphone Amplifier Usb Music Player
The speakers you have now have a headphone port. Behind that headphone port is a headphone amplifier. When you buy something like the Micca MB42X, it doesn't have a headphone port because it doesn't have the headphone amplifier. What you need is a separate headphone amplifier. In the test run I did, before I ripped my rig apart to build a new one they worked perfectly. Those prices on tranducers is crazy, I double checked the US site to make sure I was comparing apples to apples.
Also I have some very good monitors of passive studio for the reference that listens when blend.
@freediver - I own a number of the amps you mention.
Soon after appearing in high-performance audio gear, class-D became synonymous with "digital amplification" in part because, like early CDs, many listeners found the sound glary, hard, and unpleasant.
What is needed to make a “good” audio Class D amplifier? What are the features of ADI’s Class D amplifier products? Find the answers to all these questions in the following pages. The price is very reasonable and sets you free from sticking with predetermined speakers and internal amp combos.

Bluetooth 5.0 amplifier with aptX LL let you stream music and stereo sound in crisp. At a fraction of the price of almost any other amplifier out there, you’ll be impressed with the quality. Supporting multiple inputs (RCA/AUX/USB/Bluetooth) and outputs (speaker/headphone), can as... The design is great if you want a conversation piece and a high-performing stereo mini amp rolled into one.
Darkvoice 336se Headphone Tube Amplifier
I have tried so only one 4 few speakers of shelf of the book then in @giving the easily in powered added him a wolfer and a mid row. I can take on half volume before they distort. I think it that it could manage it the main speakers. Some works of blue tooth a lot if your telephone is near that. A course a harder that this pocola what is that it is like this little! Hooking On the bosses is easy but the little main unit with all a jacks in a backside would be good. https://bestreviews.tips/douk-audio-audio-component-amplifiers_308458/ We use it to knots a next weekend and he have touched utmost. A Friday that follows some leaves of transformer to do. So much in my experience will take music an out of three weekends. We will see they do a lot better in a substitution. Has asked in a section of questions the one who a real RMS start to be able to is in 8ohms, but any one answered still. So only it has taken this little amp today, as any really have time partorisca touch with him. I have used Lepai before so much I can do the small comparison. You save the well of headache for economic speakers in a cochera ossia roughly that. The bass and The Treble control no the very neither.
Douk Audio M1 Pro Power Amplifier 320w Bluetooth 5 0
As you can see, this isn't pretty for a simple 1kHz signal! I had a look at the FFT either as left channel only or stereo and there was no difference to be found for the above output levels. The distortions are not primarily power supply related limitations. Audiophiles shy away from discussing the Chinese amps. A SEEN the metre that requires that it thinks is excessive start to be functional is not the treat big mine, but can be yours. Apparently, a headphone the jack no with headphones/earbuds with the microphone . Everything of some headphones and earbuds has with covering them of 3 directors have been directed with abundance of volume. It telephones with the mic sounded tinny with the imitate it his annulled so that a jack very properly earth of road in these devices. I think that to use the 3-director headphone the cape of extension would do around this subject. I have wanted a amp that could accept Bluetooth enter of Alexa and power an audio in my classical Minimum 7 speakers of Shelf. I paired this with 2 Klipsch RB-10 Bookshelf Speaker partorisca my woman like the Valentines Present of Day and was very happy with some results when connected to the ours iPad. Has not done paralización well and has done thought it , but a Bluetooth the function was sub-pair. A connection was poor more than 10'was and he sputter with device of Echo 5' was. Going partorisca return reason a main purpose has bought this device has not done at all.. 1. Best Loudest Jobsite Radio – Bosch PB360C Power Box
Bosch’s Power Box is the veritable Rolls-Royce of jobsite radios. It is heavy (24 pounds), but that is because it is packed with loads of features, is extremely loud and has four-way power outlets.
A metal and rubber cage around the unit is sturdy to protect it from impacts and other physical damage onsite. In fact, it is the most rugged roll cage we’ve seen in worksite radios.
It is also weatherproof. No matter what conditions you are working in, the PB360C will not miss a beat.
The Power Box has impressive sound quality. It has four crystal-clear directional speakers delivering delivers 360° enriched stereo sound and a premium subwoofer. It is the loudest jobsite radio in our review, which is handy if you are using noisy tools.
Tumblr media
One feature that we especially loved was the Power Box’s dual-purpose as a power strip. It comes with a few built-in outlets that allow you to plug-in tools or other appliances that run on 10 amps or less, which offers a ton of utility when you are working.
The Power Box can be plugged into the wall or used on the go. You do not need to continuously spend money on batteries, either; it runs only on the rechargeable Bosch 18V battery, which is sold separately for a steep price.
The latest version of the Power Box also features Bluetooth that delivers a strong and reliable signal up to 150 feet away. There is a media drawer built into the unit for housing Bluetooth devices, but we found it to be too small for most smartphones.
Our only real gripe with the PB360C other than the considerable price tag is that the latest model no longer supports a wireless remote, two AUX inputs rather than one, and an SD card reader, it seems to have refocused on Bluetooth instead.
Bottom Line Bosch’s PB360C Power Box is the ultimate powerhouse of job site radios. It is the biggest and loudest radio in our review, and it is perfect for you if you are looking for a predominantly stationary radio for extra-rugged environments. You get Bluetooth connectivity, a well-designed cage and a multitude of other features.

2. Best For General Jobsite Use – DeWALT DC012
Dewalt’s DC012 jobsite radio is all about user-friendliness. It looks nice, and it sounds quite good.
It is reasonably portable at 14 pounds, and it does a spectacular job of charging your Dewalt batteries for use in power tools or in the radio itself.
The unit has a pleasingly simple look, with one large speaker on either side of the backlit center display.
The rubber buttons and dials on the front and top of the radio are large and easy to handle even if you have work gloves on. The unit is entirely encased in a robust hard plastic cage to guard against falls.
Tumblr media
On the side of the radio are three electrical outlets. They have a combined rating of only 10 amps and can be used for plugging in work lights, phone chargers, or other light devices.
The radio is durable and water-resistant, though hard plastic casing looks like it could have benefitted from the inclusion of some shock-absorbing rubber.
Dewalt DC012 comes with the ability to recharge Dewalt 7.2-18V batteries which are sold separately. The unit can fully charge batteries in an hour or less, and it can run off one of those charges for up to eight hours.
The radio itself can run either from an electrical outlet or from a Dewalt rechargeable battery.
The sound quality of this jobsite radio is a mixed bag. The bass is strong, but the mid-range and treble are not as great. The volume is very loud, and you will experience little to no distortion even at max.
The DC012 does not support Bluetooth, so the only way you can play music is by using the AUX input. There is a Bluetooth adapter that can be bought separately, however.
To make up for the lacking personal media support, the radio comes with an 11-inch flexible antenna. The FM reception works well anywhere, but AM can get patchy outside of urban areas.
Bottom Line
Dewalt DC012 is well-designed and intuitive, and it is great for people who want both quality and simplicity. It is ideal for those who work at crowded work sites, as the bass and the overall sound goes up very loud. It is not as good for those working outside of the city, though, because the radio reception is not excellent.

3. Best TSTAK Compatible – DeWALT DWST17510
Most jobsite radios have a utilitarian design, but not DeWALT DWST17510, which looks more like a sleek toolbox or a briefcase than a radio.
In addition to looking nice, the handle and the shape f the 13.6-pound unit is easy to pick up with one hand and carry around.
If you are using TSTAK compatible modules, you will find this worksite radio extremely useful as it can be stacked with your other modules via its side latches.
Tumblr media
Dewalt’s design for the unit is extremely tough. In fact, it received the IP54 certification for weather and dust resistance.
Sound quality is excellent, even at high volumes. It has four HD speakers, one on each corner, accompanied by a premium subwoofer and an assisted bass resonator.
The unit has Bluetooth, meaning you can listen to your personal library. The radio reception, though, is the weak link for DWST17510’s. Besides, the radio does not support the AM band.
Audio is controlled via a full-color touchscreen that flips out from the center console. It looks nice, but it may be impractical if your hands get wet or you wear gloves during your work. The interface can also be controlled over a smartphone app.
DWST17510 doubles as a battery charger. It can charge batteries very quickly, but it burns through them faster than most jobsite radios You can charge 12V, 20V, and 60V batteries with the unit.
The unit is capable of running off wall power in addition to the batteries it charges.
Bottom Line
Dewalt’s DWST17510 is a good choice if you want a high-quality jobsite radio with a bit of elegance and class. Being compatible with DeWALT’s TSTAK system is an additional bonus for anyone using TSTAK modules as you can stack them together. It is weatherproof, but the touch screen and the lack of a shock-absorbing cage make it better-suited for jobs where it will not take too much beating.

4. Best Portable – Milwaukee 2590-20 M12
Milwaukee 2590-20 is a small, light unit that is durable and has great sound for its size.
It is less expensive than most jobsite radios in our list, yet those cost savings comes a slightly cheaper build.
Each side of the 10.5-inch tall unit sports a circular speaker, both of which are water-resistant and are covered by an aluminum mesh shield to prevent damage.
The unit has small rubber handles on either side that make it easy to carry around.
Tumblr media
Between the speakers are a thin LCD display, several rubber buttons to control audio, and a flip-down media drawer to house your media device. The drawer, however, is not big enough to hold larger phones.
On the back of the unit is a jack for plugging in a wall charger and a place for a li-ion battery. The wall jack does not actually charge the radio, just supplies it with power while it is plugged in. You can only use 12V li-ion batteries in the radio, which are affordable and readily available.
The amount of sound to come out of such a small jobsite radio is amazing. It does not offer the crystal clear audio of a much larger model, but it can almost get as loud.
The design of the radio is solid, and a black polymer coating encasing much of the unit will protect it from bumps. The speakers and the media drawer are sealed and weather-resistant too. It is probably not a good idea to take the 2590-20 M12 into extreme conditions, though.
The buttons on the unit are conveniently placed, but they are also quite small and bunched together because of the radio’s compact size. This makes them hard to push with gloved hands.
Although Milwaukee’s site claims the radio’s advanced tuner will produce better reception than any other jobsite radio, we did not find it to be the case. The reception was just ok, as stations from both the AM and FM bands dropped out in urban areas occasionally.
Bottom Line
Milwaukee 2590-20 is a compact, lightweight build makes it excellent for contractors and others who want to move around a lot during their work. It is also perfect for camping and other “on-the-go” outdoor activities. You can get a better-sounding, more heavy-duty jobsite radio for twice as much, but you may rather opt for portability.

5. Most Streaming Options – Makita XRM09B
XRM09B is a great worksite music system that features a radio, music player and various streaming options from your device.
It has impressive speakers, a stylish EQ, and supports the latest Bluetooth standards.
The durable, heavy-duty body pushes the unit weight to  12 pounds, but a well-built handle makes it easy enough to lift and transport.
Aesthetically, the centerpiece of the radio is the reverse-contrast display, which changes colors based on the EQ you have selected.
Tumblr media
Above and below the display are two rows of large rubber buttons that are easy to manipulate even with work gloves. Also on the front panel is a large rubber knob as well as the 5V USB charging port and AUX jack. Overall, we found the Makita XRM09B to be the most attractive jobsite radio in our review.
The unit’s audio is loud and clear. Makita has added a large, powerful subwoofer since the last model, and the unit now has no trouble in noisy environments. The mid- and high-range speakers are excellent as well.
Unfortunately, the addition of the subwoofer resulted in a greater weight (12 pounds compared to the old 10 pounds) and much shorter battery life (up to 18 hours compared to up to 35). Using Bluetooth reduces battery life even further.
The unit does not have a roll cage, but the body is dust and water-resistant enough to get an IP65 rating.
The XRM09B runs on Makita’s 12V, 14.4V, and 18V rechargeable batteries, although it does not charge them itself. The 18V sells separately, though it’s expensive. Alternatively, the radio can also run on AC.
Bottom Line
Makita’s XRM09B is ideal for those who need durability but do not want to sacrifice sound quality to get it. The battery life can be a problem because of the powerful speakers, but people who can recharge the device’s battery often or have spare Makita batteries will love this unit.

6. Best Radio Reception – Sangean LB-100
LB-100’s retail name is “The Lunchbox,” which gives you an idea of how portable, lightweight and simply designed it is.
There are only a few ergonomically designed buttons on the unit, hence it is the most accessible jobsite radio on our list.
The unit is extremely durable with a hard plastic roll cage that protects it from impacts, although it is not designed to withstand extreme force.
The body of the radio, which actually looks a bit light a yellow plastic lunchbox, is made from tough material that earned it IP54 certification for water and dust proofing.
Tumblr media
The LB-100 only has a single five-watt, 5.25-inch diameter speaker. The audio is bass-heavy, and that can wash out the mid- to upper-range notes. You can turn the volume to the maximum without getting distorted, but it may not get loud enough for very noisy environments. The AM/FM reception is great, even in rural areas. The unit does not have Bluetooth or AUX, though, which means radio is the only way to listen to music on it. The device runs on four traditional C batteries, which are inexpensive and last a while. Alternatively, it can also run from wall power via an AC cable.
Bottom Line
The Lunchbox is a compact utility worksite radio that is easy to carry around, making it perfect for people who move around a lot. Fans of sports and talk radio will especially love it because of its great reception and long battery life, although music listeners may be disappointed by the lackluster sound. On the downside, we’d love to see Bluetooth or AUX support.

7. Best Storage Space – Milwaukee 2792-20 M18
The 2792-20 M18 is everything a heavy-duty jobsite radio needs to be and nothing more. Durable, loud, easy to control, and with strong personal media support.
The unit is fairly big and heavy at 17 pounds, but it has three handles to help you carry it around. The boxy design is good for storage and does not take up too much floor space.
The backlit LCD of the device sits atop a panel of large rubber buttons and a rubber dial, all of which are big and easy to manipulate even with work gloves.
The large, square speaker cover is beneath the panel.
Tumblr media
On the back of the unit is Milwaukee’s signature bottle opener. A rubber roll cage protects most of the unit’s corners and there are no exposed outlets, but the materials used on the exterior of the radio itself feel a bit cheap.
The device has Bluetooth and a media drawer on top of the device that is large enough to hold even bigger phones during playback. There is also an AUX-in and an AM/FM tuner for playing music.
2792-20’s sound quality is a little underwhelming. It has two mid-range speakers, two tweeters, and no subwoofer, resulting in a weakish bass. The volume does not go up as loud as you would expect from such a large, heavy unit either.
The device runs off Milwaukee’s M18 batteries, and it can also charge them. Most jobsite radios sacrifice some sound quality while charging a battery, but not 2792-20. It has two USB ports, too, and they charge mobile devices only while the stereo is on. Sadly, there are no general-purpose electrical outlets on the radio.
Bottom Line
Milwaukee’s 2792-20 M18 Radio is a good choice for those who want a basic jobsite radio that allows your song collection to be streamed on the radio in a number of ways. It is especially handy for those who mainly use their own music collection at work. In addition, it comes with a large storage compartment and a bottle opener at the back.

8. Best Pocket Size Jobsite Radio – Makita RM02
At 1.7 pounds and a size small enough to fit into your pocket, the RM02 is the smallest jobsite radio in our review.
It is easy to control, it has an excellent tuner, and the sound is surprisingly good for the size of the radio.
The radio’s simple design consists of a panel of large, easy-to-press buttons, a volume knob and a pair of indents to hang a strap on top and a non-backlit LCD screen nestled in between tuning buttons on the front.
Below the LCD is a speaker shield. On the back of the device, a rotating hook folds out to allow you to hang the radio up.
Tumblr media
On the side of the device is an AUX-in jack. The RM02 does not support Bluetooth, though, which is disappointing for modern radio. The unit is equipped with a pair of small speakers that, while not as strong as those on a heavy-duty jobsite radio, are surprisingly powerful. They play talk and music clearly for a pocket-sized player, and they turn up very loud without losing quality. We found the radio reception to be great, too, thanks in part to a rotating rubber antenna atop the device. The hard plastic of the Makita RM02 feels sturdy enough to withstand a few drops, especially since the radio is so light. It is not “jobsite tough,” though; not even the product page on Makita’s site mentions any kind of durable design or weather resistance. The radio is compatible with Makita’s 12V CXT batteries, which come in two and four amp-hour versions. The radio can run for 30 hours on 4Ah.
Bottom Line
Makita RM02 is best for people who want a radio to take with them on quick jobs that are not too intensive. It can take more of a beating than a traditional portable radio (e.g. drops from short distances, exposure to humidity, etc.), but it is not ideal for heavy-duty work.

9. Best Sound Quality – Sangean U4
The U4 is a beast; it is big, it is heavy, it is loud and it has a list of features that will give less-techy users anxiety.
If you need and can use most of them, it will give you everything you want and more from a heavy-duty jobsite radio.
The sound quality is on par with the best jobsite radios out there. The mids and highs are clear, and they are grounded by a powerful base.
In fact, this radio has received an award from Mozaw.com for the best new sound quality radio in 2019.
Tumblr media
It has Bluetooth, a built-in alarm clock, a built-in one amp USB charger that works only when the device is off, a program that automatically warns you of upcoming hazardous weather, a smart battery charger, an AUX port, a rotary bass and treble control, and so much more. Sangean did put a lot of thought into the design and ergonomics, hence using most of the above functions is pretty straightforward.
The unit is IP64-certified for resistance to water and dust. A hard plastic roll cage and a solid build will protect it from most impacts you can expect in a job site.
On the downside, the radio is indeed a bit heavy and bulky. At 14 pounds it is only relatively portable, yet a handle built into the top of the roll cage makes it easy to carry around for those willing to lug around the weight.
Sangean U4 runs on D batteries, which are cheap and easy to replace. It has a built-in charger to recharge the batteries itself. The device also runs on AC wall power.
Bottom Line
Sangean U4 is perfect if you are looking for additional features such as the weather alert, USB charging and others that you would genuinely use. It strikes a good balance between bulky alternatives and ultra-portable jobsite radios, so if you do not need to move your radio around the job site too often, Sangean U4 may be one of the best jobsite radio for you.

10. Best Warranty Worksite Radio – Ryobi P746 One+
Ryobi’s P746 is a relatively light and portable unit at seven pounds. It has a modern design, fairly good sound, and excellent support for your mobile devices.
The radio has two USB charging ports, which both put out 2 amps of power. This means the radio will charge devices like media players much faster than most other jobsite radios out there.
It also has Bluetooth and a device tray that is big enough to hold even large phones, making it convenient when streaming music from your phone.
Tumblr media
The Bluetooth, however, is not that strong, and starts to drop out at 50 feet away from the unit. The device also has a decently powerful AM/FM radio.
In addition to the usual AUX-in jack, the P746 has an AUX-out which is used to get other devices or speakers to reproduce the sound. We are not sure where and when this option could be used, yet it is there if you need it.
Unless it is plugged into the wall via its AC cord, the unit works only with Ryobi 18V One+ batteries. It gets an impressive 30 hours of playback, although there seems to be some battery drainage even when the radio is not in use.
The P746 One+ does not come with the most durable build for a jobsite radio. The AUX and USB ports are not covered, and the strap to hold media players is not protected. There is no roll cage, and the materials used feel rather cheap.
The sound quality is average. It is loud, thanks to four precision-tuned bass ports, but the mid- and high-range notes are often drowned out by the bass.
Bottom Line
Ryobi P746 One+ is a great choice for those who love using personal media at work. It offers extra-fast USB charging, and the radio has very long battery life. It is not exactly heavy-duty and probably should not be taken into extreme jobsite conditions, but it is portable and loud, ideal for slightly more casual outside work.

Frequently Asked Questions
What capacity power bank do I need?
It depends on the devices you are planning to charge. The easiest way to work it out is:
Find the mAh rating for the device you are planning to charge (e.g. 2000 mAh)
Add 20% that will be lost in the process of charging (e.g. 2000 + 20% = 2400 mAh)
You will get the power bank’s capacity required to fully recharge the battery of your device once
How long does it take to charge a power bank?
This directly depends on two factors – power bank’s capacity (mAh) and the electric current produced by the charger (amp). The higher the capacity, the longer it will take to charge. The bigger the power of the electric current is, the less time it takes to recharge the battery.
How else do people refer to a power bank?
It can be referred to as a power bank, battery pack, portable charger, power cell and even a fuel cell.
What type of cells are used in power banks?
Generally speaking, it is either lithium-Polymer (Li-Po) or Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion).
Li-Ion batteries are cheaper to make and have their efficiency decrease with age.
Li-Po batteries are more expensive to produce and last longer.
How much of the actual capacity do power banks retain?
If you maintain the power bank well, you can expect from 80% to 90% of the nominal mAh efficiency to be retained.

Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar review: A full bag of tricks
Tumblr media
Sennheiser has spread the gospel of its Ambeo tech for years. The broad pitch is incredibly immersive audio for AR, VR and your living room. As far as consumers are concerned, though, Ambeo is just a headset that records 3D audio and headphones for Magic Leap. At CES 2018, Sennheiser revealed it was cramming the technology inside a soundbar, so we could all use it for a more common activity: watching TV. It took the company another year and a half to release the $2,500 Ambeo Soundbar, and the wait was mostly worth it.
The first thing you notice about the Ambeo Soundbar is its size: It's huge. Not only is it way bigger than most soundbars in every dimension, it also weighs just over 40 pounds (18.5 kg). It dwarfs the Sonos Playbar I use in my living room. Due to the increased size and weight, you have to plan carefully for where you're going to put it. Thankfully, I had enough space, though I did have to put something under my TV so the Ambeo Soundbar wasn't blocking part of the screen. I tried to set this up at a family member's house, and it didn't fit. If you have a shallow mantle for your soundbar, you'll want to measure before you buy this. Sennheiser does offer a wall mount, but I'd hesitate to trust it with something this heavy -- and this expensive.
The Ambeo Soundbar isn't a rectangular box, either. It's a trapezoid. The sides angle outward from front to back, so it can accommodate the side-firing speakers. And while we're on the topic, this beast houses a total of 13 drivers. More specifically, six 4-inch long throw woofers, five 1-inch tweeters and two upward-firing 3.5-inch mid-range drivers. The system has a frequency response of 30 Hz to 20 kHz and offers the equivalent of 5.1.4 surround sound from a single unit. And that's a real perk of the Ambeo Soundbar: you get truly immersive audio without having to position a group of five (or more) speakers around your living room. Everything is in a single enclosure.
Tumblr media
On top, there are controls for mute, volume, Ambeo on/off, a multifunction button, source and power. That multifunction option, you can use to pause (single press) or skip tracks (double or triple press), and hitting both that and the source button beside it accesses the soundbar's Bluetooth. All of these options are also on the soundbar remote. On the front, there's a small display that lets you know which connection you're using and flashes updates when you switch modes. There's also an Ambeo symbol on the right side of the speaker's face that lights up when the audio tech is in use.
Connectivity is an area where the Ambeo Soundbar really shines. Sennheiser packed in everything here. For wired connections, there are three HDMI inputs (v.2.0a), one HDMI output (v.2.1 eARC), an optical input and an aux input (stereo RCA). There's also a USB port for any service needs or updates and an Ethernet jack for wired internet. The soundbar offers a subwoofer pre-out (mono-RCA) in case you feel the need to add more low-end tone to the setup. If you prefer wireless connectivity, the Ambeo Soundbar has Bluetooth and Chromecast, both handy for beaming audio from your phone. Around front, there's a microphone input for the included mic, which you use to calibrate the Ambeo Soundbar to your living room.
Once you've found enough space to put this thing, you'll want to do that calibration before you use it. If you're not one for reading instructions, the display on the front of the speaker itself and Sennheiser's Smart Control app do a decent job of walking you through the process. It only takes a couple minutes, and, yes, there's some noise involved. From there, you're ready to blast whatever TV show, movie or music your heart desires.
Tumblr media
Keep the included remote or your phone closeby because those are the two ways you can access from the couch the Ambeo Soundbar's acoustic presets: Movie, Music, News, Sports and Neutral. These are handy when switching types of content, and they make a noticeable difference in the overall sound for each one. More specifically, Movie increases bass, treble and the "immersive effect" while Music has less low-end for a more neutral tone. The News setting pushes more volume to the center speakers and amps up the middle frequencies to focus on voices. Sports places emphasis on both commentary volume and "immersion" and, lastly, the Neutral setting has a flat frequency curve with no "sound coloring."
And, if for some reason you need to do so, there's an option to turn the Ambeo tech off entirely. There's also a Night mode which reduces bass when someone in your house might be sleeping. Night mode works with all of the sound presets except for Ambeo Boost, so it's very useful when you need things to be less boomy.
Tumblr media
The Smart Control app also allows you to tweak the EQ. The four-band equalizer divides into Foundation, Low-Mid, Clarity and Brilliance. I was pretty happy with the Movie preset (for TV as well) and the Sports mode, but the Music option needed some fine-tuning to fit my sonic sensibilities. I found that the Ambeo Soundbar didn't have enough bass for some genres -- mostly hip-hop, electronic and metal -- right out of the box, even with the Music preset enabled. I was able to coax a little more low end out of the unit by messing with the EQ. This meant I got the appropriate low-end growl for Gojira's chugging guitar riffs and the synth-laden tones of Com Truise. Inside the app, you can also choose between Light, Standard or Boost levels for Ambeo on the EQ interface for each acoustic preset. So, if you don't like how things sound, even with the presets, there's room for you to personalize everything.
If you like booming bass in your home music setup, you'll probably want to buy a separate subwoofer to achieve it. For most people, including me, the Ambeo Soundbar packs enough bass for casual listening in the living room. It actually has an impressive amount of low-end for a single soundbar, but some hip-hop tracks could benefit from slightly more bass. I can understand the argument for a sub if you're using this with a turntable, which you can do thanks to the stereo aux inputs. If this is going to be your all-in-one system for music and TV, you might as well go all in and add the subwoofer. What's another few hundred dollars if you're already this far in?
Tumblr media
Sennheiser
When it comes to overall sound quality, immersive audio is where the Ambeo Soundbar really shines. There's a lot more dimensionality to the sound than I'm used to from my Sonos Playbar and Sub combo. And you don't need Dolby Atmos content to notice the difference, though it certainly enhances the spatial quality. The Ambeo Soundbar comes with what Sennheiser calls Upmix Technology, which turns regular ol' 5.1 audio (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc.) into 3D sound. The upmix is certainly an improvement over the norm, but the processed result isn't quite as good as Atmos. The Ambeo Soundbar supports a range of high-res audio formats in addition to Dolby Atmos, including MPEG-H and DTS:X. The latter also sounds better than upmixed 5.1, but Atmos remains the gold standard on this device.
My living room is a nightmare for sound: angled ceilings, overhangs for lights and other elements for audio to bounce off. The Ambeo Soundbar still did an admirable job following the calibration process. Of course, like many companies, Sennheiser recommends installing the speaker in the center of a wall at least 39 inches (1 meter) from the side walls or ceiling. You have to give this thing room to work, so if you can't do that, this probably isn't the soundbar for you.
My main gripe with the Ambeo Soundbar is a very basic thing Sennheiser overlooked. When you use your TV as the video source -- either smart TV apps or devices connected to your TV -- the audio and video aren't in sync if you use an optical connection. The sound isn't off by much, but it's enough to be annoying. I found myself constantly distracted trying to tell if the audio matched the visuals when I connected the soundbar to my TV via that input. This is how I connect my Sonos gear, so it made sense to try it first. There is a lip sync option inside the app, and once you enable it, a slider appears for adjustments of 1 to 100 milliseconds. It still didn't help my optical woes. To remedy this, you can connect any streaming devices to the soundbar itself, and then the soundbar to your TV via the HDMI output on the speaker. It seems like you also have to enable the lip sync feature for each connection, not just any audio for the soundbar.
Tumblr media
The company makes it clear that HDMI eARC is the best way to connect the Ambeo Soundbar to your TV, so choosing to employ the optical connection isn't the ideal scenario. I could tell a massive difference between the two, with HDMI being far superior. Sennheiser is also upfront that an HDMI ARC (no "e") jack will only give you surround sound to "a limited extent." Basically, you'll want to check that your TV is eARC-equipped, otherwise you won't get your full $2,500 worth out of this purchase, and that would be a damn shame. When I connected everything to the soundbar and turned on the lip sync setting, the audio matched whatever I was watching perfectly. Crisis averted.
As I already mentioned, it handles most music genres well, but using it to watch TV is where the Ambeo audio is really on full display. Alongside the 3D enhancements, the speaker also has a lot more clarity and detail than I'm used to with my Sonos. Don't get me wrong, the Playbar and Sub sound really good, but there's a lot of ambient or subtle details in scenes that the Sonos setup doesn't always pick up.
The atrium scene in Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse is a prime example. You can hear all the echoes and background hum of other students talking, just as you would in a room like that in real life. Plus, the Ambeo Soundbar has a lot more to offer when Miles & Co. are swinging around and doing battle. There's better dimension and direction to the audio, and it's a step above the "virtual surround sound" a lot of soundbars claim. Netflix's new Formula 1 series also shines with this speaker. There's already a lot of motion and direction to the audio, but the Ambeo Soundbar increases that exponentially. It doesn't sound like you're at the track, but it sounds like you're a heck of a lot closer.
Tumblr media
There are plenty of Atmos-enabled soundbars out there that do a decent job at simulating surround sound. Sony offers a few options with upward-firing speakers that will beam audio from the top to make things a bit more immersive. Its "flagship" model is the HT-ST5000, which comes with a subwoofer for $1,299.99. The HT-ST500 also has handy sound modes to cater to what you're watching or listening to, virtual 7.1.2 surround sound and a range of connections that include Chromecast built-in and Spotify Connect. It's also smaller and a heck of a lot lighter. For the same price as this Sony model, LG has the SL10Y with a similar feature set, though it's 5.1.2. The SL10Y does have Google Assistant built-in on top of Chromecast, so it can accept your voice commands directly. Several companies make Dolby Atmos soundbars that simulate surround sound, but the top-end options from Sony and LG should definitely be on your list to consider as Ambeo alternatives.
Sennheiser's Ambeo Soundbar is a beast. It's big and heavy, but it's also a powerful living room speaker with impressive 3D audio chops. It needs room to do its thing and Dolby Atmos content to really shine. You can get that from places like Netflix, if you're willing to pay extra. For example, Atmos on Netflix requires the pricier UHD plan. My main issue with the soundbar, though, is the somewhat limited lip sync feature in the Smart Sound app. It's something Sennheiser could expand, sure. Right now, audio directly sourced from a TV doesn't sync exactly with all connections, and it's distracting. You can remedy this by connecting streaming gear directly to the speaker itself. If you rely on smart TV apps from an older display that doesn't fit Sennheiser's ideal setup criteria, it could be an issue.
There are more affordable yet still very capable options abound if Dolby Atmos is the primary goal. They might not impress with 3D audio as much at the Ambeo Soundbar does, but they also cost about half as much. If money isn't an issue, though, Sennheiser sets a new standard for what an all-in-one soundbar can sound like.

Yamaha DTX2U http://bit.ly/2f5R0en
A Versatile and Responsive Drum Trigger. A Powerful and Flexible Sequencer.
[easyazon_block add_to_cart=”default” align=”left” asin=”B004BA48P8″ cloaking=”default” layout=”left” localization=”default” locale=”US” nofollow=”default” new_window=”default” tag=”electroni06ce-20″]
Silent Session Drum Trigger Module
The DTX2U supplies more sounds, more expressive power. New kits and sounds include 29 additional drum kits plus 12 new hi-hat and 33 new rim voices. Both rim and pad voices can be simultaneously triggered. A variable gate time can be assigned to each note in the alternate and stack modes.
A Complete Workstation
The click track is controlled with the start and stop buttons. Headphone only mode sends the click directly to the headphones. Volume and pan settings can be edited in the song job mode. The selected drum kit is always effective, even when a different song or pattern is selected, if rhythm track is muted.
Display
The large liquid crystal display (LCD) shows a wealth of data in a format that is both easy to see and understand. A large, double-digit LED display keeps you informed of the current drum kit number at a glance.
Transport Buttons
Large transport buttons on the front panel provide quick and easy access to playback, record, and other sequencer functions. The remaining buttons are clearly labeled for easy access to common functions. Now programming is easy!
4 Sliders
The basic function of the 4 sliders is for master, aux in, accompaniment and click volume controls. They can also be assigned to control four individual drum output levels, giving you more control over the DTX’s sound balance in live situations.
Data Scroll Wheel
Selecting your desired setting is quick and easy with the Data Scroll Wheel.
Input/Output
The DTX uses a 10 input and 4 output interface to provide enough capacity to handle complex pad setups. 8 of the 10 channels are dual trigger type; channels 9/10 and 11/12 are independent trigger types. 4 outputs-Stereo L/R and two auxiliary outputs offer extended output processing capabilities. Individual voices can even be assigned to the auxiliary out for further sound control.
AUX
A stereo AUX input allows an external sound source, such as a CD player, tape deck, etc., to be mixed with the DTX’s drum sound. Now you can play-along with your favorite recordings.
MIDI IN/OUT
Full MIDI compatibility makes the DTX perfect for any MIDI studio, and allows the option of adding on to the system in the future. Trigger external tone generators by playing pads through the DTX, or record from an external keyboard into the on-board sequencer.
Drum Kit Play Mode
The 928 drum and percussion voices, covering a wide range of musical styles, are set up into 61 preset drum kits. You can also edit kits to create your own original drum kits. With such a wide range of possibilities at your fingertips, it is easy to achieve the sound and set-up you want.
Voice Edit Mode
Create your own sounds using the easy modify function, or by changing pitch, or by adding reverb effects to voices. They can be saved to memory and stored in your own customized kits.
Polishing Your Technique
The DTX2U will also assist you in polishing your technique. Independent pattern parts can be muted or soloed, and with independent click track control, you can practice triplets and other polyrhythms easier than ever before.
Chain Mode
Specific kits or patterns can be recalled in a defined order during performance. A total of 16 chains can be saved and recalled at the touch of a button or the strike of a pad.
Trigger Edit Mode
Trigger Mode allows settings for velocity, sensitivity, and volume levels to be saved in user kit memory as your original set-ups.
Auto Set
A single pad’s input level and MIDI velocity is graphically displayed on the LCD. Strike the pad and optimum gain values are set.
Pad Gain
Use the graphic display as a reference to manually adjust the gain of individual pads in precise increments.
Rejection Mode
Interference from other pads (cross talk) can be eliminated using the Rejection Mode. Offering a totally new approach to playing, the DTXU2 also allows you to assign up to 5 MIDI notes to individual pads, which can then be played in various ways. This feature can add a whole new tonal palette to your sound.
Stack Mode
The 5 assigned MIDI notes are triggered simultaneously as a chord. Drum voices, layered percussion, orchestra hits, or full chords are all possible.
Alternate Mode
Assign up to five notes and play them back one per each stroke on the pad. This allows you to create and play melodic phrases from the same pad. Version 2.0 offers more flexibility with assignable gate times for each of the five notes, the ability to assign less than five notes, and simultaneous triggering of a bass drum voice and bass notes from the kick pad.
Hold Mode
Strike the pad, and the 5 assigned notes are sustained until the pad is hit again. This mode can be used in conjunction with both Stack and Alternate Modes.
Velocity Cross Fade
Simulate acoustic drum nuances by assigning soft and loud voices to the same pad, to be separately triggered according to how hard or soft you play. It is also possible to control the balance of stacked voices in the Stack Mode using Velocity Cross Fade. Pads can also be used as switches to start and stop playback of patterns and songs. You can connect the MIDI OUT of the DTX to play an external tone generator with the pads, or to record data to computer based sequencers for instance.
Pattern Play Mode
With a total of 660 preset patterns (110 x 6 sections) and 100 user patterns, the DTX2U is sure to exhilarate your artistic talent. Complete rhythm, bass and chord parts are arranged into sections such as intro, main, fill in, ending, etc., and can be used to make songs, or simply for jamming. You can also record your own original patterns for use in compositions or as a teaching or practice aid.
Song Play Mode
Choose from 100 preset songs or 30 user songs and jam away. Each track can be muted or soloed just as in the pattern mode. You can mute the drum part and play the drums yourself, mute the keyboard and play the keyboard, solo the bass part and play along with it, etc. Using the DTX as a training aid, you can better understand how your parts fit with the rest of the band.
Record and Playback
Songs are easy to record and playback so you can get your ideas recorded and hear how they sound quickly. The DTX2U is also General MIDI compatible. Connecting the DTX to a computer or external sequencers can access GM data.
Groove Check
If you want to improve you’re timing. Groove Check is the perfect training aid. Select a pad to play in the Single mode, and see just how accurate your timing is on that particular pad. The Average mode will give you an overall score on your accuracy over the entire kit.
More Power, More Playability
The DTX2U and the addition of some new pads like the PCY10 Cymbal Bell Pad, KP80S Kick Pad and the BP80 Bar Pad, make the Yamaha DTX electronic percussion system the most practical electronic percussion system ever. Techniques such as articulate buzz rolls, rim shots, double bass, percussion, and cymbal chokes, that were previously possible on acoustic drums only, can be played with the DTX system’s extended capabilities.
1056 On-Board Voices
Have fun practicing with the on-board training functions, and more. The DTX2U is one of the most interactive electronic drum systems and sets new standards for modern drumming. The 1056 on-board voices include: 880 drum and percussion voices, and effects, as well as 48 bass, brass and strings, and mallet voices and 128 GM (General MIDI) compatible keyboard sounds, all produced with Yamaha’s Advanced Wave Memory (AWM2) technology.
Techniques
Push your imagination by exploring the vast sonic palette and advanced functions. Layer up to 5 notes on one surface to play stacks of notes or alternating patterns. Trigger keyboard sounds from the pads.
On-Board 5-Track Sequencer
There’s also an on-board 5-track sequencer that lets you record MIDI data from the DTX system and external MIDI keyboards as well.
Studio or Live Performance
With its extensive capabilities and excellent voices, the DTX system is perfect for studio use or live performance. The system can be used alone or incorporated into acoustic drum systems. Whatever your skill level may be, the DTX system is the one system that meets the needs and requirements of every drummer.

TC Helicon VoiceLive 3 Review (2019) | Sustain Punch
In this product review, we’re going to be discussing the TC Helicon VoiceLive 3, which is a multi-functional vocal effects processor.
The company that is TC Helicon generally need no introduction in the realm of vocal effects technology. In recent years, they have been pioneering the creation of different kinds of vocal processors, changing the way in which singers have been utilizing effects in both a live rehearsal and performance environment.
TC Helicon was originally founded in the year 2000, but was recently acquired in 2015 by Music Tribe, who is the parent company of Behringer, Bugera, Midas, Turbosound & Klark Teknik.
None the less, in the 19 years that the business has been in operation, they’ve managed to produce several well-known effects units, including the VoiceTone series, alongside what we’re talking about today which is the VoiceLive 3.
We’ve constructed this article review of the VoiceLive 3 in a way where it not only talks about the features of the unit, but also includes high-quality images, informational videos and video demonstrations of the processor in action.
This way you’ll have a well-rounded insight to decide whether this unit is ideal for you.
Ok, so let’s get into talking about the TC Helicon VoiceLive 3

Setbacks
Doesn’t have backing track functionality – For that, take a look at the TC Helicon VoiceLive 3 Extreme Review
Rather expensive, but an investment for professional musicians/singers
Has had some programming issues in the past on specific units, but we think the company has fixed these issues, as TC Helicon have now been acquired by Music Tribe (parent company of Behringer, Bugera, Midas, Turbosound & Klark Teknik) – However, it comes with a 3-year warranty for reassurance, so we advise buying it and testing it during practices for a few weeks before taking it on-stage.
Controls
The TC Helicon Voice Live 3 has been designed to provide the most amount of functionality, in a processor which is both versatile and easy to use.
Even despite the unit’s size, being a little larger than most vocal processors, we think that the company has done well to fit so many functions into this unit.
Let’s delve deeper into the specific interface controls!
The first impression that we had about the interface’s layout is the sheer amount of footswitches that are available to the user, which just makes the process of enabling/disabling certain aspects so much easier… as let’s face it, singers need to be in the moment when giving a good performance, not thinking about how to operate their vocal effects unit.
As far as working the unit, it has three primary layers, which are for Vocal Processing, Guitar Processing & Looper Processing. These can be switched between by using the Looper Footswitch, located next to the Preset Footswitch.
Once you have selected either the Vocal, Guitar or Looper Track layer, the effects such as uMod, Delay, Reverb, Double/Com, Harmony/Drive and more, can then be used to further modify your mix.
The Genre button enables the user to choose presets that fit within their preferred genre/style of music… It simply allows for users to filter the presets, making it easier to find more suitable sounds that they can use.
However, the VoiceLive3 also allows users to search through presets without filtering via genre, which is great when you’re still discovering all of the unit’s features and presets.
The Setup button allows you to access of the VL3X’s system settings, including input, output, guitar, MIDI and tone settings. VL3X system calibration can be done by holding the Setup button down and following the on-screen instructions.
The Vocal button can be used to make changes to the vocal effects for your current preset. Similarly, the Guitar button can be used to make changes,  to the guitar effects for your current presets, and finally the Looper button allows for loop options to be controlled.
The Mix knobs, located under the main screen, are used to make specific parameter changes for effects/presets.
The unit’s Home button enables the user to visit the main menu at any point, useful if you’ve got lost in a sub-menu.
Take a listen to this video which explains all of this in a visual format:
youtube
Now let’s talk more about the back of this unit, and more specifically about the connectivity options that you have:
As you can see, the TC Helicon VoiceLive 3 has a range of inputs/outputs located on the back of the unit, all of which make it incredibly useful and versatile whether or not you’re playing at a rehearsal, a live performance or simply recording in your home studio.
Regarding the specific inputs, from left to right, they include:
Mic/Line combination input
Guitar Thru & Input
Aux (1/8″ inch jack) stereo input
Monitor Input & Thru
Outputs include:
L (Mono) XLR output
R (Dry) XLR output
Guitar L + R output
Footswitch TRS output
Expression TRS output
Also, it includes:
MIDI input/output
USB
Micro USB
12V DC power adapter input
Power switch
Performance
We’ve included a demonstration of the VL3 in action, and as far as we’re concerned, it sounds awesome with the combination of high-quality vocals, guitar input, and added effects:
youtube
Conclusion
The VoiceLive 3 is clearly a unit which provides high-quality audio and effects for both guitar and vocals. And overall we quite like this unit.
Although one specific aspect that we’re not keen on is the price… It seems to be priced higher than the TC Helicon VoiceLive 3 Extreme, which is an “upgraded” version, providing backing track functionality and 4x added loop time.
Therefore, although we like the unit, we simply cannot recommend it over the upgraded version.
None-the-less, the VoiceLive 3 comes with a 3-year warranty, so you can rest assured that if any technical issues arise, they can be resolved quickly and without any expense.
Overall, we have to give this unit a thumbs up, but as we mentioned, the price of the upgraded version is cheaper, so we can’t recommend it!

Name can be confusing, Addon is not actually Add-on
App could be better, Alexa integration is via app only except for Addon C5A which has it built-in
[/themify_col]
Audio Pro – BEST FOR CONNECTIVITY,  SOUND & VALUE
From Sweden comes the retro looking award winning multi-room system. They consists of the Addon C3, Addon C5, Addon C10 and Link 1. The latter being the bridge between the speakers and existing wired Hi-Fi system. These speakers carry the boom box design, moving away from the conventional cloth wrapped and cylindrical shaped speakers you see from most of the manufacturers here. For something that resembles the convention, Audio Pro has A10 and A40 for that.
The Scandinavian design gives the speakers a simplistic and minimalist feel with textured outer body, real leather handle and polished aluminium control panel. However, the expose speaker design, save for some grills on the pair of tweeters may not be for everyone especially family with children. It is just too tempting for the little fingers. Should you have little ones at home, you may want to keep it out of reach.
The smallest speaker, the Addon C3 has built-in rechargeable battery that last up to 15 hours at 50% volume or 9 hours at full volume on a full charge. This makes is not only a multi-room speaker a portable one too, one that does not need to be tethered to a wall socket making it completely wire-free. Outside of the home’s WiFi network, simply switch to Bluetooth or wired it directly to your device to continue playing. Unfortunately, there is no USB DC output to charge your mobile.
Audio Pro Addon C3 Portable Multiroom Speaker on Amazon
Interface and Connectivity Options
The Addon C3, C5 and C10 moved away from the fabric and rounded shape. What you get is a simple rectangular box with drivers, speaker grill, control panel on the top including Aux-in jack and a leather strap as handle. All speakers carry the signature 2.1 look with the tweeters on either side sandwiching the woofer in the middle. On the back you get RCA, 3.5mm and Ethernet apart from WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless connectivity as well as Airplay and Spotify Connect support. There is also a convenient USB port to charge your device.
I was going to go for the Sonos play 5 until I the read reviews on the C10 so glad I changed my mind sound is just as good and £200 pound cheaper! I have listened to both the Bose and Sonos at my local independent retailer and was really impressed with the Sonos but I must say the Audio Pro won’t disappoint
The C5 and C10 also supports sub-woofer output for that extra kick. Input can be re-streamed to other speakers. The readily available analogue input lets you revive your old kit from turntables to MP3 players or other mobile devices and share this with other multi-room speakers. For quick access to your favourite playlist or station, use four programmable preset buttons. Of course, the higher the model, the bigger the speaker and power.
Alexa Voice Control
Moving with the times, voice control is added into the Addon C5. Known as the Addon C5A, it supports Amazon Alexa, the smart home assistant inherently. Using far field microphone, you can control the music playback, get weather forecast, daily news briefing and control other smart devices by barking your commands at the speaker. Being Audio Pro, the Addon C5A still spots RCA and 3.5mm input and the essential Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity plus Airplay and Spotify Connect support.
As for other speakers in the range, these support voice control over the app. Support for Alexa put the Audio Pro speakers on a level playing field with the likes of Sonos. Stream your favourite music hands free with voice command. You will need to use the Audio Pro Control app to access Amazon’s voice assistant. Speak to Alexa through the app and hear your requests or response through connected speakers.
This implementation may not be as sleek but it is a step in the right direct. Our hope is that an Alexa skill will be introduced or an update will allow these speakers to appear in the Alexa app as devices so they can be grouped with Echo devices in each room making them the default player for the room.
Audio Pro Addon C5 on Amazon
Audio Pro Control App
The companion app is avilable for iOS or Android. Access major streaming services and Internet station using the app. Services include; Tidal, Spotify, Deezer, TuneIn, Qubuz, iHeart Radio and Napster. Everything about the speakers can be controlled via the app. These include grouping and customising individual speakers for personal playlist room-by-room. Here is also where you can fine tune your listening experience, set up stereo pair with dedicated Left and Right channels, set the treble and bass levels.
Choice of Speakers
Like most multi-room systems, you get a choice of different sizes. Audio Pro’s multi-room setups are as below:
Addon C3: 2x5W + 15W Digital class D with Tweeter: 2 x 3⁄4” textile dome and Woofer: 3.5” long throw (built-in rechargeable battery)
Addon C5 and C5A: 40W Digital class D amplifier with Tweeter: 2 x 3⁄4” textile dome and Woofer: 4” long throw, Sub output. USB DC output to charge mobile devices.
Addon C10: 80W Digital class D with Tweeter: 2 x 3⁄4” textile dome and Woofer: 5.25” long throw, Sub output.
Addon C-SUB: 200W Digital class D Woofer: 6.5” long throw with Passive radiators: 2 x 7.5″
These speakers can be set in different rooms, paired for stereo effect with dedicated left and right sides, grouped and play or play everywhere.

Audio Pro Addon C5A with Alexa Built-in on Amazon
Our favourite is the Addon C5A. Costing a little over half the price of Sonos Play:5 it comes with Alexa built-in so does not require a separate Amazon Echo or rely on the app for voice control and supports the Addon C-Sub. If you prefer even more power, get the Addon C10. With double the firepower at 80W output, it will fill any modern room, pushing out rich and precise notes with clear resonating bass. The Addon C10 takes what you like about the Audio Pro sound quality and push up even further, more dynamics, more bass and greater detail.
#gallery-0-8 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-8 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-8 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-8 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Other Options from Audio Pro
Other multi-room offerings from Audio Pro are the cylindrical fabric covered A10, an Apple HomePod look alike and equally generous in the fabric department, the A40 anniversary model. Both speakers stayed away from the retro look, favouring instead the scandinavian simplicity in design with elegance and sophistication. Both speakers carry the same level of connectivity enjoyed in by the Addon series. The A10 is seen as a direct competitor to Play:1 making it an affordable speaker for a small room. The A40 on the other hand is in a class of its own with a big ticket price nearly double that of the Play:5.
Audio Pro A10 Multi-Room Speaker on Amazon
For something even bigger, the floor standing Audio Pro Drumfire pushes 300W total output. It has a dedicated high and mid-range unit (100W output) and big subwoofer on which it sits on (200W). The result is not only does it produces the volume required to shake any house but does so with Audio Pro’s award winning signature audio. Price wise, apart from the A40, the A10, Addon series and Drumfire are unbeatable. You can’t get any better sound at these prices. It doesn’t however offer a home theatre solution like Sonos does. You can be creative, combining two speakers and a sub for stereo and extra low range.

Best Digital Piano 2018 — Buyer’s Guide
Digital piano is a brilliant invention that makes piano accessible to everyone.
However, to pick out the best digital piano that fits your needs isn’t an easy job.
So, in this guide, we’ll first investigate the list of 5 best digital pianos base on their touch, sound, and price.
Then, we’ll learn more about how to choose a proper digital piano that meets your needs.
Let’s get started.
1. Yamaha P71 — Best Portable Digital Piano Under $500 For Minimalists
Yamaha P71 is our top pick for the range under $500.
Despite the relatively low price, P71 provides smoother sounds and even richer than a cheap upright piano.
It also has fully weighted keys, which somewhat mimics the feeling of playing on an acoustic piano.
P71 is fantastic for the price and perfect for practice. Suited best for beginners with a budget.
Now, let’s talk about the 2 most important elements of any digital piano: Touch and Sound.
Touch
P71 has Yamaha’s Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) action for the keys. It makes the touch slightly heavier in the low end and a bit lighter in the high end just like the hammers in an acoustic piano.
So, it can help you build up the proper finger technique if you want to transfer to an acoustic piano.
You can learn more about Yamaha’s GHS by watching the short video below.
https://youtu.be/x_DcljpKnIM
Sound
P71’s sound is sampled and recorded from Yamaha’s world-renowned concert pianos, which brings you full, rich and realistic sounds.
Yet, for professional pianists, its sound is just decent. But for beginners, it’s totally good enough!
Please note that: According to Yamaha, the Yamaha P71 and P45 are identical. The difference is P71 is an Amazon-Exclusive.
This video below shows you the sound quality of P71:
https://youtu.be/gnLhuCiJQLI
Highlight Features
This digital piano is specifically designed for piano practice:
88 fully weighted keys
64-note polyphony
Built-in metronome
10 different high-quality voices: Helps to concentrate on the piano
Record and playback function
Headphones for silent practice
Slim, simple, and compact design: Its weight just 25 lbs, you can easily move it. It also takes up very little space
3-year manufacturer’s warranty
Yamaha P71 helps you stay away from distraction and focus on practice.
Buying Package
The cheapest option includes both power adapter and sustain pedal. There are 2 more bundles which include a stand and an adjustable bench.
However, a wiser decision is to purchase the stand and bench separately since they are somewhat better than the ones in the bundles and less expensive.
Other Advice On Yamaha P71
The pedal: Some experience the reverse effect: If you press the pedal the sound isn’t sustained, but if you release it, the sound is sustained. To solve that problem, you need to plug in the sustain pedal before turning the digital piano on.
Otherwise, if you plug it in while the digital piano is already on, the sustain pedal will do the opposite like described above and cause a headache.
The sustain pedal comes with Yamaha P71 is good but it’s much lighter than one of an acoustic piano. If you’re a serious learner, you should look for a heavier pedal.
Product Registration: It seems that Yamaha doesn’t have a registration option for P71. You should go to their site and register like you’re using the Yamaha P45. (Aforementioned, According to Yamaha, the Yamaha P71 and P45 are identical. The difference is P71 is an Amazon-Exclusive)
The Headphone Jack: In order to use the earbuds or headphones, you must have a 3.5mm stereo jack to 1/4" stereo plug adapter.
Also, every masterpiece has imperfect elements. In this case, it’s the headphone jack’s location. It’s in the back of the keyboard.
So, you shouldn’t place this digital piano too close to the wall. Otherwise, it would be a huge pain when you want to plug in the headphones: To find the jack by feeling or pull the piano away from the wall to see it.
Pros
Very little space needed and easy to move
Fully weighted keys with GHS
Minimal design for just practice
The volume can go very low
Perfect for the price
Cons
Features and sounds are limited
The headphone jack is quite difficult to access
The sound can’t be as loud as an acoustic piano
2. Yamaha DGX-660 — Best Grand Portable Digital Piano Under $1000 For Learning, Practicing, and Making Music
Yamaha DGX-660 isn’t a normal electric piano, it’s the convergence of a grand piano, a digital piano, and an arranger keyboard.
Its piano sound is recorded from Yamaha 9' CFIII Concert Grand Piano — №1 Natural! Grand Piano sound.
DGX-660 comes with a vast array of tones, styles, songs, rhythms, and superb connectivities (includes wireless connection).
Yamaha DGX-660 is great for both beginners and experienced players for multiple usages: learning, music making, or just playing the piano.
Touch
DGX-660 is also built with Yamaha’s GHS. It simulates the keyboard feel of an acoustic piano closely.
You can learn more about Yamaha’s GHS in the buying guide section below.
Moreover, you can adjust the touch-sensitivity of the keyboard by choosing from Soft, Medium, Hard, and Fixed.
For piano practice, you should choose Hard-Touch in order to build up your finger technique and strength.
If you choose Fixed-Touch, the sounds will be the same no matter how hard or soft you press the keys. In the beginning, beginners tend to use Fixed-Touch since their fingers are still weak. You shouldn’t select that option because it won’t help you develop your finger strength and technique.
Sound
Despite being digital, DGX-660’s piano sound is realistic and even better than many low range upright pianos.
DGX-660 use Pure CF Sound Engine. It reproduces genuinely the recorded sound from Yamaha CFIII 9’ Concert Grand Piano — №1 Natural! Grand Piano sound. Hundreds of other sounds also simulate closely the original instruments.
You can listen to the video below to have an idea of how good the DGX-660’s sounds are:
https://youtu.be/ZXEIxCnc3nc
Highlight Features
DGX-660 comes with lots of features. Below are some highlights:
88 fully weighted keys with black keys made from matte: It prevents slippery if your fingers are moist
192-note polyphony
Piano Room Mode: Pianists would love this function. You can even choose whether to close or open the lid on the 9' piano!
LED Screen: It makes using this digital piano much easier and funnier.
A vast array of tones, styles, rhythms, and preset songs: 554 tones, 205 styles,100 preset songs
Contains all necessary connections: USB to Host, USB to Device, Headphone jack, Aux In, Mic In, Sustain jack
Great microphone input: You can simultaneously record your voice and the melody and store it in an external drive.
Wireless Connection: You can download a bunch of apps by Yahama in your tablet or smartphone and connect with DGX-660 wirelessly. It will definitely enhance your piano playing experience!
3-year manufacturer’s warranty
Buying Package
It comes with 3 buying options. The lowest one just includes the digital piano itself and a stand. The 2 advanced options have in addition: an adjustable bench, headphones, and a sustain pedal or a full set of 3 pedals.
If you want to make DGX-660 more portable, you should look for purchasing an X-stand separately. Also, it’s quite stronger than the one in the bundles. Below are 3 great X-stands which are suitable for DGX-660:
Knox Gear Z Style
RockJam Xfinity
World Tour Double X
Other Advice On Yamaha DGX-660
The pedal: It sometimes has the reserve effects as the P71: The sound is automatically sustained without pressing the pedal. Otherwise, if you push it down, the sound is clear. The solution is the same: Plug in the sustain pedal before turning on the digital piano.
And although the full set of 3 pedals in the bundle is good, I still recommend you invest in a better one if you’re serious in your piano learning.
Assembling: It’s not so hard to assemble all the parts together, but the piano itself is quite heavy (46.3 lbs). You probably need someone to help you set it up.
Headphone Jack: This is also a huge pain as the Yamaha P71: the jack is still in the back of the keyboard. However, you can set the output speaker on the LED Screen. So, you just need to plug the headphone jack in once.
For more convenient, you should use a 3.5mm Male to Female Stereo Audio Cable to lengthen the headphones’ cord.
The weight: It’s much heavier than other portable digital pianos: Others usually weigh around 25 to 30 lbs, while DGX-660 is 46.3 lbs. It won’t be easy for you to move it around. But compare to the quality it brings, I think it worths the extra effort to carry it to the show.
Pros
Realistic sound by Pure CF Sound Engine
GHS system for the keyboard
Multiple usages: Learning, practicing, and making music
Lots of modes and functions to choose from
Useful LED Screen
Microphone input for recording singing and playing at the same time
Cons
The internal memory of just 1.7 MBs. You should need to buy an external storage to expand its capacity
A bit heavy
3. Yamaha P115 — Upgrade Of P71 With Higher Sound Quality
P115 is at the mid-range of Yamaha P series. It also has minimal and simple design as the P71, which will help you focus only on piano practice.
The main difference is its sound quality is better than P71 with Pure CF Sound Engine. It reproduces closely the sampled sounds from Yamaha 9' CFIIIS concert grand piano.
However, if you’re looking for tons of voices and fancy features, DGX-660 is still a better choice.
P115 is like the upgrade of P71 with higher sound quality and some additional features. It’s worth the extra money.
Touch
P115 is also built with Yamaha’s GHS system. The keys are heavier than most uprights and comparable to average grand pianos.
Sound
Sound quality is the most significant difference between P115 and P71.
P115 also uses Pure CF Sound Engine as DGX-660. It also contains more voices than P71 (14 tones)
You could listen to the video below to get an idea of P115’s sounds:
https://youtu.be/GamF6mSkgFY
Touch
P115 is also built with Yamaha’s GHS system. The keys are heavier than most uprights and comparable to average grand pianos.
Highlight Features
192-note polyphony
Controller App for iOS devices: It makes navigation and configuration much quicker and easier.
14 different high-quality tones: Helps to stay focus on piano.
Slim and simple design: At the first glance, P115 looks like the P71. However, the headphone jack of P115 is in front of the keyboard! It makes using headphones now much more convenient.
3-year manufacturer’s warranty
Buying Package
P115 comes with less buying options than their brothers. Only includes the piano itself, PA150 power supply, and a sustain pedal.
In order to use it with utmost convenience, you should purchase in addition:
An adjustable bench
An X-stand or Z-stand or Yamaha L85 stand
A 3.5mm stereo jack to 1/4" stereo plug adapter to use the earbuds or headphones
Other Advice On Yamaha P115
The pedal: It also has the problem like the 2 above: Opposite effect with the sustain pedal. The solution: Plug in the sustain pedal before turning on the digital piano.
The keys aren’t very durable: Some experienced defective broken or sticking keys after about 1–2 years. This probably the only downside of P115 compares to P71. However, by purchasing from Amazon, they ensure the 3-year warranty from Yamaha. So, it’s not a huge problem.
Headphone Jack: P115 has a “huge” improve on the headphone jack: Now it’s located in front of the keyboard! What a convenient! However, you still need a 3.5mm stereo jack to 1/4" stereo plug adapter to use the earbuds or headphones.
Pros
Realistic sound by Pure CF Sound Engine
GHS system for the keyboard
Compact design for mobility
Perfect for practice
Cons
No MIDI
No transpose function like the P71
The sound comes from internal speaker is quite at the full volume
4. Yamaha Arius YDP-181 — Best Console Digital Piano Under $2000 of Arius Series
Yamaha Arius series has been recommended by educators over time because of its sturdy design, stable functions, and of course, the realistic sounds and GHS keyboard.
And Yamaha Arius YDP-181 is probably the best digital piano under $2000 from the series.
Unlike the 3 above, YDP 181 is a console-style digital piano. It’s designed for home use, which is less mobility but also provides better realistic playing experience.
It also comes with the furniture-style cabinet and 3 pedals. So, you don’t need to purchase additional pedals or stand. Moreover, the sound is often fuller and richer than portable ones because of the resonance effect from the cabinet.
Its appearances are also better than the portable ones. It’s can be a nice decor to your home.
Touch
YDP-181 is also built with Yamaha’s GHS system. The bass keys are heavier than the treble ones.
You can also adjust the weight of keys by choosing from 4 options like the Yamaha DGX-660 above: Soft, Medium, Hard and Fixed.
Sound
YDP-181 also uses Pure CF Sound Engine, which sampled the sounds from Yamaha’s CFX 9’ concert grand piano.
Moreover, YDP-181’s sounds are richer, fuller, and bolder than the 3 above because of the resonance effects comes from the cabinet aforementioned.
The video below shows you how good the sounds of Yamaha Arius YDP-181:
https://youtu.be/lhRp5BvJJYg
Highlight Features
192-note polyphony
iOS Compatibility: You can connect YDP-181 with iOS devices by Lightning-USB Camera Adaptor or wirelessly using the Yamaha UD-BT01
14 different high-quality voices: It’s just like the Yamaha P115 and P71: Stay focus on the piano
“Half-pedal” ability: The amount of sustain will increase by how firmly you press down the pedal
Cabinet enhances the sounds’ quality
10 demo songs and 50 play-along songs with a songbook
7-segment LED screen
2 headphone jacks: This feature is brilliant: Only you and your teacher can listen to the sounds of the piano. You can even use one jack for listening, one jack to connect with your computer to record the sounds directly on it
Elegant and simple design: It’s covered by dark rosewood, which will be a great decor to your room
3-year manufacturer’s warranty
Buying Package
The piano with furniture-style cabinet, a 3-pedal, a songbook, and the bench are included in the buying package. You don’t need to spend extra money on other things.
Other Advice On Yamaha P115
I think the only downside of YDP-181 is when playing lightly or softly it’s a bit too stiff. Yes, the keys are sturdy and quite, but it doesn’t press down as easily as most uprights.
It has both advantage and disadvantage: Your fingers will be stronger but it’s quite hard for young children.
Pros
Realistic sound by Pure CF Sound Engine and the cabinet
GHS system for the keyboard
2 headphone jacks
“Half-pedal” ability
Elegant and simple design
Perfect for practice
Cons
Not very portable
Maybe out of budget for beginners
5. Alesis Recital — Best Affordable Digital Piano
Yes, the last one is from Alesis, not Yamaha.
Digital pianos often come from $400 to $2000 and Alesis Recital is an exception. It just costs around $200-$300 (for full accessories).
Of course, it can’t compete in all aspects with the 4 above but you will get what you pay for.
It still has decent touch and sound, a great starting digital piano for beginners.
Touch
Alesis Recital is built with full 88 semi-weighted keys: It adds more resistance when pressing the keys.
You can adjust the touch level of the keys in the Advanced Function Mode.
I have to note that the feeling can’t be as realistic as fully-weighted keys like the 4 digital pianos above. However, it’s still good for beginners since their fingers aren’t really strong.
Sound
Although Alesis has premium sounds and 20-watt built-in speakers, the resonance effect is limited. So, the feeling of playing the real piano isn’t really good.
However, Its sounds are better if you use the headphones.
So, you will find that the sounds are neither a toy nor a grand concert piano.
And below is a demo video of Alesis Recital:
https://youtu.be/Wpbj9Mi4AAA
Highlight Features
Fully portable use with D batteries
128-note polyphony
Skoove 3-month premium subscription: This is a great deal for beginners to learn with interactive online lessons
Have all necessary connections: USB-MIDI connectivity, headphone jack, pedal input, stereo aux output
5 different voices
Buying Package
It comes with 2 options: The cheapest one just have the digital piano and the power adapter. The second option has a bench, a stand, and a sustain pedal.
