THE HUMAN CONDITION┃Theme: Depression┃Précis: Depression, obsession, compassion, resolute, warning. ▪︎ ☆ A response to The Urban Poets Prompt "Shards of Glass." ▪︎ Description: I talk about the futility of the human condition - both in its volatility and in its compassion (the glimmering fortress is compassion, a beautiful virtue, but one that brings much pain). The human condition doesn't just refer to depression but to all aspects - the vile, the obsessive, the seemingly damaged ones, be it good or bad. The person in the poem suffers from depression, the two stanzas clearly express that, the skirting of the edge... at the brink of existence. And yet, as seen from the next two stanzas, the person will carry on regardless, almost oblivious to the cost, ever toiling for the world's redemption, to love even those that evade love. The person calls for those just like him, hoping he's not alone, only to realise that the only companion he has is the night. The "creatures" imply that of non-human nature, that he's alone (it is easy to think this way when you're depressed).
