My opinion on reading comprehension jokes is probably the most Tumblr user opinion I have
#if anybody asks i'll fire it off but all I'll say now is that poor reading comprehension is a huge literacy issue#like when people talk about functional literacy they're talking about people not being able to obtain meaning from text...#most 'illiterate' people can decode text and say what words are written down (maybe with help or more time than it takes others but still)#they just can't derive meaning from the words without some sort of aid like someone else reading it out loud-- see im going off#anyway mocking people for having poor reading skills is a huge reason why its hard to amend literacy issues#nobody wants to admit they have poor reading comprehension. its embarrassing. it means youre stupid.#but it doesnt mean youre stupid!! smart people can have poor reading comprehension!! it is a specific skill!!
