the spur of the moment oc lore post
VIOLA MANAGTANEM
Viola's an Ilocano girl born and raised in Ilocos Sur. She was a very intelligent and driven woman with a keen interest in all things occult. She was also having some trouble keeping up with the demands of life in the provinces. Besides that, much of her backstory is a mystery and she can barely remember much of it either. She was embraced by her sire, Dáan Búot, when she was 26, having been beckoned to his haven in the forest while she was chasing after her dog. She belongs to clan Baali and, while she is still honing her skills in Daimonion, she is very proficient in Dark Thaumaturgy, namely the Path of the Unspoken.
Viola is a kindred who’s usually solitary and on the move, if not accompanied by her sire, working independently as a bounty hunter for other kindred. She is also officially married in her unlife but it isn’t known to whom she’s married to.
She/Her | Non-Binary | Lesbian | 26 Mortally | Baali c. 1980
ARTHUR DIZON
Arthur, also known as "Art," is a Filipino/Dutch guy from Santa Monica. He was an eccentric lady's man and fashion & design school student. He was also a little unstable, dealing with undiagnosed crap that haunted him every day of his life, thus he'd self-medicate with cannabis and ritalin. Entering unlife at 24, Art was embraced by a Malkavian chick he met through Craigslist, posing as a client for some artsy business endeavor Art had at the time. Art's mind is now all over the place; plagued with paranoia and visions of the future, he is usually seen lazing around half naked and high out of his mind... A means of quelling his shock at his newfound circumstances. He isn’t very good at any of his disciplines.
Art is a kindred who lives in a dilapidated trailer park with other kindred of various clans, some even clanless. He spends his days getting high and looking for clothes to recycle into new pieces, for himself and his little bummy community.

CARMENSITA DUGO
Carmensita’s another Filipino chick, though this time she hails from the PNW. She was a trad goth who loved clubbing and going to concerts despite being broke as hell and very lonely. She met her sire, Juan, in the back alley of a club she frequented while she was taking a smoke break... And the two were so totally enraptured by one another that they skipped the club, went to his place, and got down; Carmensita getting bitten in the process--she thought it was a kinky thing. She now finds community and comfort in the local Nosferatu brood, and is in love with her new look... SO macabre. She’s quite good at Obfuscate and Animalism, having taken a liking to the little sewer rats especially.
Carmensita is a kindred who lives with the local brood of Nosferatu, led by the elder Montesquieu, in a sewer network beneath Seattle. She is a spy for the brood.
She/Her | Transfem | Bisexual | 21 Mortally | Nosferatu c. 1990
ALIN DOGAN
Alin is, yet again, a Filipino chick. Born in the slums of Manila, now living in Manhattan, Alin was once a little Filipino boy who wanted to be the next Miss Universe. She adored all things feminine and was in the care of her single mother, giving her a powerful female figure to look up to in her early life. Alin would work hard to achieve her dream... sacrificing so much along the way... and though she could barely compete with cis girls for modelling jobs, she was eventually offered one by some motherfucker in the US! The guy was skeevy, however, and Alin found that she was very unhappy with her situation, but it did keep her housed and fed. She eventually meets her sire, Kilgore, at a networking event. He, too, was looking for models... and there she was. She would be trained for the next few months before her embrace, after which she was invited with open arms into a, small but popular, network of Toreador models in New York. She is quite good at Celerity and Presence, using the latter to her advantage amongst clueless kine.
Alin is a kindred who lives in relative luxury and opulence, being someone so revered for her looks... she has a lot of influence (also from using Presence). She is currently a model and artiste.
She/her | Trans Woman | Bisexual | 23 Mortally | Toreador c. 1990

If I had a nickel for every time I shipped an OC with a canon character in an ongoing series and that character ended up having a crush on someone later in the series resulting in envy for my own OC, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

screaming crying eating glass at the smosh news and ian and anthony interview !!! so happy to see two friends reconnect and let go of so much pain in favor of their relationship and to find love in what theyre doing and creating with one another again! was literally crying through half that video because friendship breakups are so devastating !!!! excited that they got their channel and that mythical was in full support of them like the good dads they are, and probably as a duo themselves KNEW what that meant for ian when he brought that to them 😭😭
on the other hand i am ALSO lowkey worried. i mean i know ian said that smosh pit and games will basically be the same and that he’s excited for the main channel to get an identity, or to kind of reclaim what that identity once meant for smosh, but hmMmM idk the thing that ian said about smosh turning into this entity that focused not only on what was going on in front of the camera but highlighting all the people behind it too and this cool community of a company put together by the people in it and watching it, ESPECIALLY after what happened with defy and having to rebuild all of that with mythical’s help, is why i love what the channels are now too!! i like how the crew is loved and shown as well as the cast and i dont want the bitches who hated on smosh after anthony left to,, idk just be stinkers to this very wonderful group of people who put out GOOD content too!! i will defend them to my fucking grave, tommy and rachel and greg and lisa and kiana and zoe and garrett and erin and I SWEAR TO GOD PETER and rock and marcus and heidi and just!! everyone MAKE those videos what they are, and what they are is such a good, fun, and genuinely funny time !! i just dont want anyone coming back to smosh with the mindset that only the ian and anthony stuff is any good and then using that to go hating on the other stuff, or the people always saying they miss the old smosh somehow feeling ?? idk like vindicated or using this as a tool against these people to make them feel bad. i know i cant stop people from commenting shit or talking shit, but i wish i didnt have to think that those people are probably on their way :(
i’m excited for the change! i’m worried too! but at the end of the day, ian saying that he’s willing to burn down the channel he has been with since the beginning so long as he’s doing it with the person he started it with is enough for me to trust them.

I SAW AVAT AR HERE ARE MY OPINIONS
overall a stinker with a few cool elements. worth pirating only if youre not watching it sober but like. don't give them any money for this LOL
the most glaring and immediate issue with it imo is the performances. the cgi characters suffer from a lack of microexpressions which may have been present during the on set performance, then filtered out during mocap and were not fully reconstructed during anim polish. like if they're not intentionally making an expression theyre just slighty grimacing by default. and the live action actors are even WORSE. every human character gives the impression that for every line they're looking off camera for a cue to say their line, theres no engagement with the scenes whatsoever. tbh to me it seems like for a mocapped character, they were directed with the knowledge that performances could be rounded out in post, but the same directorial techniques were applied to non-mocap characters whose performaces werent revised and well. you get what you get! na'avi were stiff and humans were flat.
there's also some issues with the effects which im willing to chalk up to delgo syndrome (massive project takes so long to complete that the technology progesses past it, leaving the final product appearing dated on release). im not the most fluent in vfx technicalities, but (according to my bestie who is) a number of assets weren't properly blended with the enviornment. like the characters and fire had different lighting from the background.
but the BIGGEST issue with it was structure (shocker). im more willing to attribute this to poor writing as opposed to poor editing, since with a movie like this writing and structural editing are done together in the previs/prepro stage. the first thing i noticed that were issues was starting the movie out with back-to-back timeskips. first we go through a ten year family raising montage, then we skip time a full year forward for the antagonist to develop. i think if there was a way to intermesh the time skips it wouldnt have felt as stilted, which i understand is difficult but well. they had a whole ten years to figure it out. the next thing was the TIME. i know im not the first one to say this, but this could have been a full hour shorter than it was. ive seen movies with a similar runtime that feel half the length of this one, because they don't suffer the same overall structural weakness as this one. and that's the fundamental issue with this movie! the story itself was just not strong enough to support the grandiosity of the concept and the world. the beats are repetitive because they don't intensify within each leg of the story (the same rising actions happen again and again because the main characters are functionally just waiting for the antagonist to arrive, and the climax drags because the only tension is between death-by-weapon and death-by-drowning.... for like a solid 40 minutes). there were moments where i could tell the film language in terms of music, shot composition, etc was telling me i was supposed to care but. i just couldn't. because there was nothing there.
for some positives-- there were a few good scenes, especially the ones involving the whale species. the initial whale hunt did make me a little sick tbh and the final moby dick style boat battle was very cool. theres also some nice visual elements-- when the effects are well-executed by today's standards they're gorgeous and there's some cool creature and tech design (i love those crab bots). also zoe saldana's performace stuck out as the only engaging, believable, remotely evocative one so. props to her and her alone. i also thought the idea of shrinking the scope to be more personal was a good idea, because im sure they'll ramp back up to saving the world again. but in due time.
tldr; it's an ouroboros of mediocrity where if any one of its problem elements were strong, its glaring issues would be forgivable. not quite aquaman levels of shitassery but close. 2/5
