Everyone jokes about Zhongli being #old and not understanding internet meme culture but I really need to stress I think if you explained internet meme things to the Archons, Zhongli and Nahida would make “technically correct but hilariously out of touch with internet meme culture by virtue of being very well adjusted + offline” applications of internet terms in the Exact same way
Like if you explained the definition of “skrunkly” to Nahida what’s going to happen is while walking with her in the rainforest you’re going to hear her go “awww :) the skrunkly!” and turn around thinking she saw like, a cute animal or one of her Aranara or something only to realize she is referring to a specific species of plant she spotted that she thinks is nice
Meanwhile Hu Tao sends Zhongli a funny message and he responds with nothing but a very carefully taken photograph of a rock. And she is incredibly confused and after 5 minutes of decoding this goes “Zhongli are you…using this picture of a rock as a reaction image?” and Zhongli is like yes :) I am. And she’s like “why” so Zhongli sends her a very thoughtfully detailed message explaining he found this rock on a morning stroll outside the harbor and thought it has a very “humorous and engaging shape” and had little flecks of color that reminded him of a kind of jewelry accessory that was popular in Liyue 300 years ago that was often a gesture of good humor and friendship, so he found it “a good choice of image to use in a humorous interaction with a companion”
And Hu Tao is just like okay thanks Zhongli you are so interesting. Makes sense. (She thought it was just bc the rock was kind of shaped like a laughing face if you squinted)

I was a 12 years old when I was attacked by a mob of children and called "Christ killer" — the same age Jesus was, according to the Gospel of Luke, when he lingered in the Temple of Jerusalem and impressed the elders with his intellect — so this issue is undeniably personal. That wasn't the first or last time I was bullied for being Jewish, but it was the only time I nearly died because of it: Those kids held my head underwater, chanting, "Drown the Jew!"
This incident sprang back to mind  this month as Republicans tried to figure out what to do about Greene, a particularly obnoxious Christian right-winger who has suggested that a "space laser" affiliated with Jewish banking families caused the 2018 Camp Fire in California, expressed sympathy for the anti-Semitic QAnon fantasies, promoted a video that claimed Jews are trying to destroy Europe, posed for a picture with a Ku Klux Klan leader and liked a tweet linking Israel to the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
(...)
None of this is surprising for anyone who is familiar with the history of American anti-Semitism. Greene is not an aberration, some inexplicable pimple of hatred that blemishes the American right's otherwise Jew-friendly visage. The American right has long had an anti-Semitism problem, and she's just the latest symptom.
This history of hatred "tells us much more about the anti-Semite than it tells us about Jews," Dr. Jonathan Sarna, a professor of American Jewish history at Brandeis University, told Salon. After citing an Israeli historian who refers to anti-Semitism as a "cultural code," Sarna explained that beliefs that vilify Jews as malevolent plotters who secretly control the world have a long history in American political life. "These ideas, which I think many on the left frankly had thought were done and over with, we suddenly see them full blown," he said
Before the 19th century, Sarna explained Jews were stereotypically depicted as being cursed: They were "wandering Jews" for their supposed role in killing Jesus Christ. In the modern era, however, the stereotype emerged that Jews secretly controlled the world and were responsible for everything that a given anti-Semite might regard as sinister. During the Civil War, Gen. Ulysses S. Grant blamed the Jews for cotton smuggling and expelled the entire Jewish community from areas he controlled in Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi. When the populist movement arose to address agrarian economic concerns in the 1890s, Jewish bankers like the Rothschilds were a frequent target among ideological leaders like William Hope "Coin" Harvey.
(...)
There's a direct line between those conspiratorial fantasies ideas from previous decades and the anti-Semitic attacks of the 21st century. "Conspiratorial thinking, by its nature, argues that everything is connected," Sarna explained. "There are no coincidences and it eschews complexity. It believes there are simple explanations based on sinister individuals who are manipulating the universe. Unsurprisingly, in a Christian setting, those are Jews."
Those ideas can evolve — Sarna pointed out that the QAnon belief in a giant child abuse ring run by Jews is analogous to the "blood libel," the medieval myth that Jews used the blood of Christian children for rituals — but the underlying assumptions have been consistent. It just so happens that, in the modern right-wing incarnation, Donald Trump's cult-like following believes that "all the enemies of Mr. Trump are now child molesters."
(...)
[Jewish comedian Larry Charles] brought up community organizer and political theorist Saul Alinsky, a favorite target of the right. "He is almost like the devil in a way," Charles observed. "He's like this radical leftist Jew, he fits all the categories. He checks all the boxes."
"Shooting some of these movies, we would see reasonable people who have this blind spot," Charles said. "They have this crazy belief, and there were all different applications and manifestations of it, that the Jews control everything. That is like a mantra amongst a certain segment of the population."
(...)
With the election of Trump in 2016, those ingrained belief systems — which for many years had been kept outside the American political mainstream — became more prominent, and their adherents more emboldened. David Weissman, a military veteran and former conservative Republican who stopped being a self-described "Trump troll" after a 2018 conversation with comedian Sarah Silverman, told Salon about his encounters with anti-Semitism on the right.
Back when he still supported Trump, Weissman recalled, he got into a "little spat" with an alt-right commentator who calls himself Baked Alaska, who was recently arrested after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Ultimately they moved past it, Weissman said: "We both realized we were Trump supporters" who believed "Democrats were the bad guys." Once he left MAGA world, however, Weissman said "the anti-Semitism definitely escalated" in interactions with his former allies.
"When I became a Democrat, I was called 'the k-word'" and targeted by "anti-Semitic slurs and tropes," Weissman said. Trump supporters sent "memes of me being Jewish in the oven," and "put my name in parentheses," a common tactic used by the far right to target someone for being Jewish.
(...)
"Anti-Semitism certainly did not start with Marjorie Taylor Greene, nor did it start with Donald Trump, but we have seen an exponential increase in violent anti-Semitic incidents during Donald Trump's presidency," Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America, told Salon. "That is no doubt related to the fact that he emboldened and aligned himself with white nationalism." She mentioned Trump equating the neo-Nazis in Charlottesville with the peaceful protesters by "commenting that there were very fine people on both sides," refusing to denounce white nationalism and telling the right-wing Proud Boys during one of the campaign debates to "stand back and stand by."
"White nationalism had existed in our country prior to that, and anti-Semitism as an element of it, but white nationalists had never had an ally in the White House until Donald Trump," Soifer said.
(...)
Donald Trump's supposed pro-Israel policies were closely aligned with those of Benjamin Netanyahu, and did nothing to correct for Trump's history of anti-Semitic words and actions. He accused Jewish Democrats of "great disloyalty" toward Israel (feeding into the stereotype that Jews have dual loyalties), removed any specific reference to Jews from a 2017 State Department statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day and has frequently used anti-Semitic dogwhistle terms by opposing "globalists" and describing himself as a "nationalist." When I interviewed Charlotte Pence, the daughter of former Vice President Mike Pence, she talked about her family's love of Israel but refused to answer a question about whether she believes Jews are going to hell — or discuss the creepy messianic theories underpinning the Christian right's support for Israel.
When I asked Larry Charles whether, based on his experiences, there's an opportunity to build bridges with anti-Semites, he was skeptical. "I have not seen a lot of opportunities for bridge building in the situations that I've been in," Charles explained. "The people that I've met through Sacha [Baron Cohen] were very rigid and dogmatic in their prejudices. There was no crossing that gulf with them. There might be tolerance, temporarily. There might be patience, temporarily. But there's no changing that belief."
I hope that Charles is wrong but suspect he is right, which raises the question of how American Jews should react to the Marjorie Taylor Greenes of the world. For want of a better alternative, I think the only solution is to be intolerant toward intolerance. House Democrats were right to strip Greene of her committee assignments, but that is not nearly enough. Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter need to do more to limit hate speech, even if conservatives cry foul in bad faith (the First Amendment only protects people from government censorship, not consequences from private corporations). Right-wing politicians who attack prominent Jews in ways that can be plausibly construed as anti-Semitic, or by denouncing "globalists," need to lose their funding. People who oppose anti-Semitism must lead boycotts against right-wing media figures who cover for people like Greene, such as Fox News' Sean Hannity.
On a broader level, critics of anti-Semitism must recognize that this form of bigotry is part of America's long history of hate — a history which holds that only white, straight Christian "manly" men have a right to rule — and recognize our responsibility to be allies to African Americans and the Latinx community, Muslims and the LGBT community, women suffering under the patriarchy and the poor struggling to make ends meet. If we limit our empathy merely to other Jews, the implicit message is not that systemic oppression is wrong, but only that we happen to dislike it when our group is targeted. The Jewish tradition at its best instills a moral responsibility to see all the layers of oppression, and align ourselves with its victims.

Day 9: Troll Time
Time to get trolled.
https://homestuck.com/story/1527
This is the first of the events that I’ve noticed enough to talk about in Homestuck that alludes to the Alpha Kids. While Roxy on the other side of the scratch is the one actually responsible for the disappearance of Jaspers and the Pumpkins, at this point in the story, we have some pretty good suspects for exactly who disappeared both of them.
I could see myself guessing that Jade’s penpal is one of the trolls, but it wouldn’t be my first guess. I’m going to pay close attention to all of the events on one side of the scratch that are caused by the other side of the scratch, because my theory is that a Scratched Universe, more than anything else, is really terminated rather than truly being retroactively erased. Too much doesn’t make sense from a causal perspective (not necessarily from a temporally linear one) if a scratched universe is actually erased entirely, or even if it is closed off from the rest of existence - why can information enter and leave a Scratched Universe at all from an outside perspective, for example?
Are Side A Side B teleporters, appearifiers, and so on and so on, loopholes? Maybe it has something to do with the nature of Void, the Furthest Ring, and their seeming exclusion from the rules the rest of Paradox Space is required to follow.
The Doylist answer, which in Homestuck is also allowed to be the Watsonian answer, might be that while a Scratched Universe is *materially* erased, information about it is still permitted to propagate through narrative contrivances such as the author. Fenestrated planes can easily be considered narrative contrivances, but if we use this as our theory, it seems like Appearifiers and Sendificators would also have to be Narrative Contrivances (which I’m going to spell with a capital NC from here on out.) I... actually don’t have a problem with this hypothesis, so it’s what I’m going with. Also, since a friend of mine who’s reading this liveblog asked, I’m going to post a link to the tvtropes article on those two terms at the start of this paragraph for anyone who doesn’t know what I’m talking about.
Perhaps, given the proclivity for the Void to preserve lost information in the form of dreams and memories, and given the nature of Space as the medium through which events normally propagate (as well as the fundamental medium of storytelling from which all other storytelling mediums derive their medium-ness), and their proximity on the Aspect Wheel, Narrative Contrivances are objects which have are shared between these two domains - as objects associated with the Void, Narrative Contrivances are permitted to follow their own set of rules which to someone outside of the universe are obvious, but to anyone inside the universe are a complete black box, and as objects associated with Space, Narrative Contrivances function as a means by which to propagate information in such a way as to preserve causality, the logical topology of Paradox Space, and with them, the self-fulfilling nature of Paradox Space. They allow the world-line of objects travelling through the narrative to remain consistent, even when they would violate material geographical conventions.
This description of Narrative Contrivances makes me think a lot of things could be Narrative Contrivances, like First Guardians, for example, who can violate the speed of light.
This is all a lot of silly bullshit, but it’s fun to come up with theories to describe and predict Homestuck (and future Homestuck works, even though I’m not terribly invested in them.)
This has been a long Cold Open. More after the break.
https://homestuck.com/story/1529
John gets cyberbullied!
Man. Cyberbullying has really gone from being an individual concern to being an apocalyptic issue. Who knew? Maybe in writing the trolls and their cyberbullying as being inextricable from the apocalypse, Andrew Hussie predicted this.
I’m not trying to understate John’s issues by comparing them to stuff like massive social media disinformation campaigns - receiving Death Threats as a thirteen year old is terrifying, and on a general level, the fact that this kind of horrible shit was commonplace in the earliest days of social media should have been a big indicator that what was yet to come was going to be so, so much worse.
I’m also not trying to jocularly exaggerate the threat that almost completely lawless social media has on society. If you haven’t already, check out the excellent documentary The Social Dilemma, and then delete your Facebook account if you haven’t already (and since you’re reading my extremely anti-capitalist anti-patriarchy liveblog on tumblr, you’ve probably already done that. If you have, good for you!) And your twitter for good measure, come on, you know who you are. Mabe your tumblr too while you’re at it.
Cyberbullying is part of a larger theme in Homestuck, another one of those things that it’s Capital A About. As a work that is not only about growing up, but specifically about growing up in the information age, Homestuck is repeatedly about the ways that Social Media don’t just bring us together, but keep us apart from one another. Cyberbullying is one of the effects of Social Media pushing people apart - it’s so, so much easier to threaten to kill someone when you don’t have to look them in the eye while you’re doing it, and when you have the anonymity of a string of alphanumeric characters as a name to hide behind.
https://homestuck.com/story/1537
The Black Queen is a very bad woman. It’s always intrigued me that the Queens allow their counterparts’ agents free movement through their territory like this even on the eve (or the advent?) of full-scale war between their kingdoms. PM is just allowed to wander around Derse unsupervised.
I suppose that if even God and Satan can afford each other a bit of token civility while discussing the fates of sinners, so can Prospitians and Dersites.
https://homestuck.com/story/1542
@zeetheus John’s definitely proceeds Rose’s bluh.
Rose sips her Mom’s martini for the same reason that she later falls prey to alcoholism. Trying to grow up without help, Rose interprets the martini as a symbol of parental authority, the same way that she interprets the partaking of beverages in general as being a ritual of intimacy with her Mother. Empty signifiers.
https://homestuck.com/story/1549
Jack Noir’s grating voice is so outrageously distracting that it prevents itself as an intrusive thought in the Narrative for PM.
Actually, come to think of it, *all* of the Carapacians talk pretty much exclusively via narration. I wonder if that’s representative of an altered relationship with their narrative reality, which is the first time ever I’ve had that thought pretty much at all.
I always just chalked it up to one of the quirks of Andrew’s writing style, but especially when we take into account the fact that Homestuck is as metanarrative as it is, and that Carapacians are the only characters in Homestuck Proper who interface with the narrative prompt except for the audience, Andrew, and Caliborn himself, I can’t help but wonder. Maybe as living gaming abstractions, in spite of their limited intelligence and abilities, Carapacians have a unique relationship with the narrative laws of Paradox Space (perhaps in the same way that Narrative Contrivances do?)
https://homestuck.com/story/1569
Riffing a little more on the “Fetch Modus as analogous to thought processes” motif previously introduced, Jade’s excellent visualization abilities and vivid imagination serve her well as a Space Player, but tend to misfire, running wild, and seeing patterns where they don’t exist (intrusive thoughts make her see Johnny 5 in her Eclectic Bass and whatever the fuck mecha she’s about to accidentally imagine, I don’t know, I’m not a weeb.) Jade sure does think about robots a lot.
https://homestuck.com/story/1579
I have to say, I consider Terezi’s manipulative abilities to be genuinely pretty strong. I have never known a better way to strongarm me than by pointing out traits that I don’t know whether I feel good or bad about - it just terminates my thought processes.
Although in John’s case, it helps that he is, in fact, a weenie, a stooge, and most importantly, a nice guy. All these facts make him extra manipulatable.
https://homestuck.com/story/1584
<3
I have no reason to believe everyone in Homestuck’s universe isn’t stupidly badass, but I choose to believe that no one is as stupidly badass as the leads because it makes me happy to imagine that these kids are just ridiculously OP superhumans.
(That said, it’s kind of fucked up the level of violence that these literal children are involved in, maybe I shouldn’t get so excited about it. Should we be enthusiastic about the kids’ triumph over their dangerous enemies? Horrified by the travails they are being put through? Probably both motherfuckin’ things.
https://homestuck.com/story/1588
I think about this page a lot.
Rose Lalonde is a very dangerous young lady. She is ruthless, pragmatic, calculating, and cool. She’s even a killer, and literally just killed two imps before fighting this Ogre!
Why is she choosing to show mercy to it now? Is she just trying to get Dave’s goat? Maybe the answer is, deep down, she doesn’t really want to hurt anyone or anything.
https://homestuck.com/story/1589
Kanaya and Dave have a great relationship and I love them as friends very much. I wish dearly that there was more of them in the webcomic. They have approximately the same relationship with authenticity, which is to say that they don’t have an insincere bone in their respective bodies, but practice insincerity nonetheless to impress someone they care about.
For Kanaya relating to Rose, I think it’s a lot more innocent.
https://homestuck.com/story/1590
The least eloquent character in Homestuck has his brief, and I’m pretty sure only encounter with the most eloquent character in Homestuck.
Poor, poor Tavros. While Rose is pretty much always on this level, it seems a lot more innocuous when she’s talking to her friends, or the more mean-spirited and (relatively) competent trolls, the way she treats Tavros almost feels like bullying because of how obviously pathetic he is.
That said, he turns right around, and invokes exactly what’s coming to him. Y’know as much as Tavros is an authentic abuse victim and Vriska gaslights him into thinking a lot of the bad things that happen to him are his fault, there are a lot of times where he does stupid shit that invokes the justifiable wrath of the people around him.
https://homestuck.com/story/1592
While I could pontificate about the fact that Kanaya and Rose are my favorite couple, and squee enthusiastically, instead I will call attention to the fact that, by way of mixing her metaphors, Kanaya has been the victim of an authorial pun - she’s a Fruit Ninja. (Unless Fruit Ninja didn’t exist at the time of writing? It may very well not have.)
https://homestuck.com/story/1596
As the Page of Breath, Tavros sucks at communicating. Here, he sucks at communicating because in spite of his objectively pretty sick rhymes... he is talking to someone who just can’t be arsed.
https://homestuck.com/story/1602
This is one of those absurd moments that at first blush seems meaningless, but I think helps to decipher the kinds of things that John Egbert cares about. It’s one of the moments where he ritualizes an action that one of his heroes takes - John Egbert thinks that Nic Cage is cool, and wants to be like him, so he roleplays Nic Cage for a little while.
https://homestuck.com/story/1603
We’ve barely met the trolls, and they are *already* using the humans as a convenient method to troll each other instead of staying on task.
Karkat also establishes his love of RomComs before his introduction even rolls around.
https://homestuck.com/story/1618
Conceding ground to implacable enemies is generally the correct means to win in Homestuck, usually by getting them to destroy themselves or each other purely by their own unsustainably wicked or stupid conduct. Only a being as powerful as Lord English is sufficient to destroy the Significance-hoarding antagonist that is Vriska, as she threatens to overshadow everyone else in the universe by her own inflated self-importance. Only Vriska, so arbitrarily lucky, could possibly get into position to destroy Lord English. They were made for each other. They deserve each other.
Tumblr media
One of my favorite dialogues in the whole comic. Man, I sure love Act 4. There’s something indescribable about the dialogue Andrew writes for this part of the comic. Homestuck at its best whiplashes from silly to scary to heartbreaking to heartwarming, and back to silly again, from beautiful to ugly, and I don’t think that even Act 5, as it piles up layers upon layers, well past the number of parts needed to make a whole, captures the essence of Homestuck as well as does Act 4.
Homestuck is different in every part, of course, and for everyone who says that Act 4 is peak Homestuck you will meet someone who says that Acts 1 through 3 were peak Homestuck, or who says that Act 5 was Peak Homestuck, or that Act 6 was Peak Homestuck. I do not mean to demean any portion of the work by saying that Act 4 is my favorite. The things I like in Homestuck the most are just the most themselves in this portion of the story.
https://homestuck.com/story/1627
I’m feeling less and less intelligent as I read more and more of Homestuck, because honestly, my theories read less like honest-to-god insights, and more like somebody who just wasn’t paying any fucking attention. Here, Jade spells out basically what I’ve been saying.
https://homestuck.com/story/1640
We’ll pause here for the evening. Reading was a little sparse today, but it’s a good place to leave off, especially since for some of these I wrote just stacks of theorizing.
Until tomorrow, Cam signing off, Mostly alive except for a bit of a cough, and not alone.

He’ll be back: why old age can’t deter Arnold Schwarzenegger down
The man they call the Austrian Oak has brandished a sword, a shotgun and a ministers pencil. But as he passes 70, is time eventually catching up with Arnie?
All his life, Arnold Schwarzenegger has incarnated predominance. Mr Olympia, Conan the Barbarian, the Terminator, the Governator on screen or on a platform he was the most difficult, the most prominent, the mightiest. Whether manipulating a sword, a shotgun or a superintendents pen, as a movie attribute or himself, he gloated in success in victory.
Crush your opponents, check them driven before you and hear the lamentation of the status of women. Ill be back. If they dont have the intestines, I call them girlie followers. He was, and apparently always would be, the Austrian Oak.
A preternatural grade of trust, focus and desire propelled him from the forest village of Thal to prevail in bodybuilding, Hollywood and US politics. The accent and a call once saw unpronounceable did nothing to slow him. Even the gags, such as Clive James likening him to a brown condom full of walnuts, exclusively bolstered the mystique.
But as Schwarzenegger approaches his 70 th birthday on Sunday he meets a relentless, insidious foe not even he was able to defeat: epoch. Schwarzenegger, after all, is human. And the clock, unlike alien piranhas and competitive cyborg from the future, cannot be stopped. As it ticks, his predominance ebbs.
He only wants to be number one, in whatever context. He would do anything to sustain it. But the ageing process … its never welcome, spoke Barbara Outland Baker, a former girlfriend. I ponder deep inside him there is some annoyance: What am I supposed to do with this journey? I simply want to be number 1. If not number 1, what am I supposed to do?
Schwarzenegger persists famed, popular and busy manically busy. Early mornings you can recognize him in Santa Monica, region up Ocean Avenue on his bicycle, winging through red lights for his cardio. He still spouts cast-iron, ordinances, wanders and champions political candidates and causes.
He is like a Terminator machine in terms of ceaseless extending, croaking, departing, striving, endeavor, endeavour, alleged Bonnie Reiss, world chairman of an institute that makes his identify at the University of Southern California.
Striving, but no longer curbing. Schwarzeneggers recent movies have fizzled at the box office. He stumped in vain for John Kasich in last years Republican primaries. Chatter of him ranging for Senate or mounting some type of political comeback has faded. The former action hero who flowed California is greater number one.
He has invested his remaining political capital in the worthwhile if arcane issue of redistricing reconstruct – curtailing the gerrymandering which bedevils local and commonwealth polls and fuels partisanship. He is ginning up fund and courtesy for a occasion which will reach the Supreme court in October.
Hes a gadfly. He doesnt really have often of a constituency in the Republican party, announced Jack Pitney, a politics professor at Claremont McKenna College. California Republican dont talk about him any more. Hes basically a non-person.
Schwarzenegger used to be political royalty. He marriage Maria Shriver, John F Kennedys niece, and as an outsized GOP outsider touched off sexual abuse charges dubbed gropegate and triumphed Californias governorship in 2003.
It was a rocky term. He lampooned Democratic resists as girlie husbands, clashed with unions and other powerful interest groups and watched the recession erupt a fiscal crisis. He averted meltdown and acquired re-election by rebooting his government, moving to the political core and grinding out parliamentary incomes. Upon leaving agency in 2011 he tainted his bequest by travelling the penitentiary sentence of the son of a political friend. His divorce from Shriver amid discoveries of an affair and secret son with their housekeeper further dented his reputation.
For all his political attainments he mobilised California in the fight against climate change the loss of executive clout must hurt, told Outland Baker. He really likes fame and power and the movie industry cant provide the same level of real fulfillment, she spoke. Their affair ended in 1974 but they remained in contact and he presented an interrogation for her 2006 memoir, Arnold and Me: In the Shadow of the Austrian Oak .
Schwarzenegger, who became a US citizen in 1983, dreamed of the White House. But an effort to amend the constitution, the so-called Arnold amendment, failed to lift the ban on foreign-born nominees. A big blow, supposed Outland Baker: You want to be best available, the meridian, if youre Arnold. If he could passage, he would try.
The ascent of another celebrity-turned-GOP politician to the Oval Office, however, has created an surprising persona, one with a world-wide spotlight and rapt audience: needler of Donald Trump.
The two used to be on good terms but Trumps rise provoked a brawl. It explodes in bullet and counter-slug every few weeks. The chairwoman branded Schwarzenegger a total cataclysm and pathetic as emcee of Celebrity Apprentice, which he used to host himself. He told their own nationals devotion breakfast convene: I want to only pray for Arnold … for those ratings.
Schwarzenegger has swung backwith gusto. Hey Donald, I have a great hypothesi, he said in a video posted on social media. Why dont we switch activities? You take over TV because youre such an expert on ratings and I take over your job and then people can finally sleep comfortably again. When Trumps approval ratings sank he gloated: The ratings are in, and you got swamped.
Speculation bristles over Trumps motivation for the trolling.
A competition with someone he thinks is worthy of being an opponent, proposed Joel Fox, a tax policy consultant who collaborated with the Governator. I think he finds Schwarzenegger threatening because he has this deep insecurity about his maturity, said Pitney, the psychoanalyst.
Photograph: Allstar/ ORION PICTURES
Whatever the reason, the Terminator star has become a subtle irritant and agent provocateur to the worlds most powerful husband, responded Michael Blitz, co-author a 2004 account titled Why Arnold Stuffs: The Rise of a Cultural Icon. Arnold may not be able to pump much iron anymore but he remains a lingering superstar of pumping irony into the ludicrous territory of American politics. He is the has-been who still is .
Schwarzenegger is well equipped for combat in this nexus of politics and celebrity, added Reiss, of the Schwarzenegger Institute. Trash-talking and intelligence psyching comes within the framework of the bodybuilding macrocosm, she responded. The future head honed his taunting skills against a bodybuilding contender, Lou Ferrigno, the future Incredible Hulk, in the 1977 documentary Spouting Iron.
Trump and Schwarzenegger convert the clash into publicity, responded Outland Baker: They have enough in common that they are likely understand the psyche of each other better than the rest of us.
Schwarzenegger had more to amplification, suggested Fox, the policy consultant. If the president wants to engage with Arnold, its advantage Arnold. The former governor has applied the attention to spotlight climate change and an after-school curriculum, both justifications close to his heart.
Trump-trolling aside, Schwarzenegger works hard to sustain his firebrand against the devastation of duration. It conspires to downsize him, literally: his official height, 6ft2in, has been disputed over the years by doubters who claim he is closer to 5ft10in.
He still works out at Golds gym in Venice, trundles around Los Angeles in his( biodiesel) Hummer and advances widely to promote climate change weighs, bodybuilding contests and movies.
The bankable adept of activity movies such as Predator, Commando and Total Recall, and comedies such as Twins and Kindergarten Cop is long gone. Recent action outings such as The Last Stand, Escape Plan and Sabotage misfired. Rotating to smaller, quieter cinemas Maggie, Aftermath won over some reviewers( Arnie can play !) but gatherings stood away. He plays a hitman in the upcoming comedy Why Were Killing Gunther.
Schwarzenegger still wreaks stardust and programme mastery to occasions promoting the environment, bipartisanship, voting improve and youth programs. France lately recognised his climate change efforts with the Legion dHonneur.
A jam-pack, reinforcing life for most beings but Arnie? The entail of life, he one read, was not simply to exist, to survive, but to move forward, to go up, to reach, to defeat.

Schwarzenegger used to be political royalty. He wedded Maria Shriver, John F Kennedys niece, and as an outsized GOP outsider touched off sexual harassment allegations dubbed gropegate and prevailed Californias governorship in 2003.
It was a rocky tenure. He taunted Democratic resists as girlie souls, clashed with unions and other powerful interest groups and watched the recession ignite a fiscal crisis. He precluded meltdown and acquired re-election by rebooting his government, moving to the political centre and grinding out judicial gains. Upon leaving role in 2011 he tainted his legacy by travelling the incarcerate sentence of the son of a political ally. His divorce from Shriver amid discoveries of an occasion and secret son with their housekeeper further dented his reputation.
For all his political attainments he mobilised California in the fight against climate change the loss of administration clout must pain, added Outland Baker. He really likes honour and dominance and the movie industry cant render the same level of real fulfillment, she enunciated. Their affair ended in 1974 but they remained in stroke and he leaved an interrogation for her 2006 memoir, Arnold and Me: In the Shadow of the Austrian Oak .
Schwarzenegger, who became a American citizen in 1983, dreamed of the White House. But an effort to amend national constitutions, the so-called Arnold amendment, failed to lift the ban on foreign-born candidates. A vast punch, replied Outland Baker: You want to be the best, the pinnacle, if youre Arnold. If he could lope, he would try.
The ascent of another celebrity-turned-GOP politician to the Oval Office, nonetheless, has conjured an unpredictable role, one with a global spotlight and rapt audience: needler of Donald Trump.
The two used to be on good terms but Trumps rise triggered a enmity. It explosion in slug and counter-slug every few weeks. The chairperson labelled Schwarzenegger a total adversity and pathetic as host of Celebrity Apprentice, which he used to host himself. He told their own nationals prayer breakfast roundup: I want to just pray for Arnold … for those ratings.
Schwarzenegger has swung backwith gusto. Hey Donald, I have a great plan, he said in a video positioned on social media. Why dont we switch activities? You take over Tv because youre such the panel of experts on ratings and I take over your job and then people can finally sleep comfortably again. When Trumps approval ratings sank he gloated: The ratings are in, and you got drenched.
Speculation abounds over Trumps motivation for the trolling.
A competition with someone he thinks is worthy of being an opponent, intimated Joel Fox, a taxation policies consultant who collaborated with the Governator. I think he catches Schwarzenegger warning because he has this deep insecurity about his manhood, said Pitney, the specialist.

Whatever the reason, the Terminator star has become a subtle irritant and agent provocateur to the worlds most powerful humankind, responded Michael Blitz, co-author a 2004 profile titled Why Arnold Matters: The Rise of a Culture Icon. Arnold may not be able to pump much cast-iron anymore but he remains a lingering artist of pumping irony into the ludicrous position of American politics. He is the has-been who are continuing is .
Schwarzenegger is well equipped for engagement in this nexus of politics and personality, articulated Reiss, of the Schwarzenegger Institute. Trash-talking and premier psyching was part of the bodybuilding macrocosm, she said. The future superintendent sharpened his taunting sciences against a bodybuilding competitive, Lou Ferrigno, the future Incredible Hulk, in the 1977 documentary Shooting Iron.
Trump and Schwarzenegger proselytize the clash into advertisement, said Outland Baker: They have enough in common that they are likely understand the psyche of each other better than the rest of us.
Schwarzenegger had more to gain, alleged Fox, the policy consultant. If the president wants to engage with Arnold, its advantage Arnold. The former minister has used the attention to spotlight climate change issues and an after-school program, both reasons close to his heart.
Trump-trolling aside, Schwarzenegger acts hard to sustain his label against the ravage of day. It plots to downsize him, literally: his official height, 6ft2in, has been feuded over its first year by doubters who claim he is closer to 5ft10in.
He still works out at Golds gym in Venice, trundles around Los Angeles in his( biodiesel) Hummer and wanderings widely to promote climate change amounts, bodybuilding contests and movies.
The bankable superstar of act flicks such as Predator, Commando and Total Recall, and comedies such as Twins and Kindergarten Cop is long gone. Recent action outings such as The Last-place Stand, Escape Plan and Sabotage misfired. Rotating to smaller, quieter movies Maggie, Aftermath won over some critics( Arnie can play !) but gatherings stayed away. He plays a hitman in the upcoming comedy Why Were Killing Gunther.
Schwarzenegger still makes stardust and program supremacy to affairs promoting the environment, bipartisanship, voting reform and youth curricula. France lately recognised his climate change tries with the Legion dHonneur.
A packed, reinforcing life for most souls but Arnie? The signify of life, he one alleged, was not simply to exist, to survive, but to move forward, to go up, to achieve, to defeat.
