Excerpt: A casting of Silence would require trust, and trust is just as much a fantasy as an end to her exile. But Minthara imagines it nonetheless: stepping silently over the threshold, back to the realm she called her own for centuries. Breathing in its air, seeing its lambent blooms again, without feeling the pangs of a sinner's transformation. She imagines sitting beneath sussur branches and feeling whole again, even if only for a moment. Once she starts imagining, she cannot stop.
